In the times before mortal recollection, there were two worlds that lived in harmony: the upperworld and the underworld. The upperworld was populated by creatures made up of life energy, and the underworld was populated by creatures made up of death energy. Neither interfered with the other, and there was absolute peace. However, at some point the beings of life, who had the ability to create, created too many of each other; and the beings of death, who had the ability only to destroy, grew jealous. They said that the life beings had created an imbalance between the worlds; and this was true. So they decided to cross the waters of Limbo to begin destroying the surplus of life beings that had been created. The life beings, however, saw this as an affront to their very existence, and in turn went to Limbo, the waters where life and death existed in tandem, to create new beings, made fundamentally of life energy but implanted with death energy so that they could fight the death beings and destroy them. The war was long and bitter; but at last it came to a close, and there was only one death being left; he was to become known only as Death. He told the life beings that by massacring the death beings they had only worsened the imbalance that they had caused and that the death beings had attempted to correct; and so they would have to make a transmigration over the waters of Limbo to right the scales and balance the two worlds. To facilitate this transmigration, which he suggested should be a repetitive process that all life beings would have to undergo indefinitely, he refined the beings made of both life and death energies and called these Grim Reapers. To ensure that all life beings would eventually have to die and make the transmigration, he made them take on mortal bodies while in the upperworld. And so the cycle of life and death came into existence, and it is followed to this very day.

The Grim Reaper Academy is a sprawling castle in the centre of Grim City, which is itself a sprawling city with architecture styles from seemingly every era, floating on the waters of Limbo, between the upperworld and the underworld, the lands of the living and of the dead. This is where the Grim Reapers live, and the Academy is where new Grim Reapers are lodged and trained for 10 years how to combat magic, exorcise evil spirits, and reap the souls of the dying.

All beings must die; this is an inevitability and accepted fact among Reapers, helped somewhat by the fact that they themselves are among the souls of the dead. However, unlike most souls, who move onto the underworld upon death, those deemed fit to be Reapers are taken to live in Grim City. It is here that their souls are implanted with an additional part, named "Reaper Seeds," that are basically pure death energy harvested from the Limbo surrounding their city. However, only certain souls are deemed "compatible": this normally means that they are moral enough not to commit terrible deeds, but not moral enough to be considered "good people", which ensures that the resulting Reapers are generally sane but not so sensitive that they begin to care too much about mortals.

Death, however, is the only being who was not once mortal, and is the only being not destined to die, being made up of pure death energy. He is the head of state of Grim City as well as the headmaster of the Academy.

Abilities
Reapers have several abilities:
  • Transforming into a "Death Form," a dangerous process in which they allow their Reaper Seed to almost completely overtake their soul, giving them access to much more powerful Death magic than is usually available to them, as well as their unique Death spell. One's Death Form is unique to the individual and reflects their personality. This is normally how Reapers become demons.
  • Summoning Death Weapons, which are an extension of each Reaper's soul and are derived from the Reaper Seeds implanted in them, and take a unique form for each Reaper, being excruciating for another Reaper to attempt to wield. Death Weapons have two "modes": Reap Mode and Death Mode. Reap Mode is what Reapers use to separate souls from their bodies. Death Mode, on the other hand, is what they use to destroy poltergeists and demons. Both modes are recognisably the same type of weapon, but have different appearances.
  • Teleportation and opening portals for transit between and within the worlds.
  • Negating magic aimed at themselves.
  • Healing their wounds at an accelerated rate.
  • Constant invisibility from living beings (except Shamans).

Reapers must fill a quota of deaths that changes depending on their skill level: school-level Reapers in the first 5 years must ferry 20 souls and kill 5 poltergeists (with 1 demon being equivalent to 2 poltergeists) per year. In their last 5 years they must ferry 40 souls and kill 10 poltergeists (with 1 demon being equivalent to 2 poltergeists) per year. After graduation, they must choose between being a ferryman (who must ferry 100 souls and kill 20 poltergeists [with 1 demon being equivalent to 2 poltergeists] per year) and being a member of the underworld's police force.

Occasionally, Reapers can be corrupted by letting too much death energy take hold and not being able to repress it, and thereafter become demons, beings maddened by both the death energy eating away at their minds, and their futile desire to gain enough life energy to repress the Reaper Seed slowly taking over their souls. They habitually kill the living to consume their souls and are willing to use magic, possession and violence to do it.

Souls are the life energy that fuel living beings' existence, and they exist even after death, at which time they are collected by a Grim Reaper for deliverance to the underworld. When they arrive at the underworld, souls are able to apply for a job in the underworld's society or may apply to reincarnate on Earth. However, even souls that choose to live and work in the underworld eventually retire (albeit usually after hundreds or even thousands of years of living in the underworld), at which point they, too, reincarnate.

However, there are also souls that resist the Reapers who come to collect them and somehow manage to break free: these are referred to as poltergeists, and they often become quite violent, their souls festering and deteriorating over time. Many are capable of possessing living beings and using magic, making them dangerous to the balance of life. Therefore, destroying poltergeists is one of a Reaper's duties.

Souls that escape while being ferried differ from those who escape immediately after death; they are often in too much shock to do anything at first, but panic when the ferrying process begins and escape into Limbo. These are referred to as the Wanderers or the Shells, having become empty wraiths of their previous selves, and if necessary a Reaper can absorb one or more of them to power their magic.

Shamans are living mortals who, for some reason or another, are able to perceive, and sometimes interact with, the dead. Many of them can use Life magic, albeit not as powerful as that of Reapers; the most widespread type of magic among them, however, is folk magic, which relies upon neither life nor death energies, but upon the energy of the mind and of the natural world. Their combative abilities are usually limited to protection from or binding of poltergeists (as, not possessing any death energy within themselves, they are unable to actually destroy them). Some, however, can even use offensive spells, allowing them to severely damage poltergeists and even demons. Upon death they are often recruited as Reapers due to their natural affinity for magic.

Magic is often distinguished from a Reaper's standard abilities in that it is based in directly manipulating the forces of life and death (that is, creation and destruction), though said abilities follow the same principles. Anyone can use magic with the proper training, or, barring that, natural talent. Magic is divided into Life, Death, Limbo, and folk magic, with Reapers being the only beings capable of using all of the first three, whereas all other living beings or souls can only use Life or folk magic and Death himself can only use Death magic. Limbo magic can only be used by Grim Reapers, as it is basically manipulating both life and death energies simultaneously to bring about effects on both Limbo itself and one's soul.

Life magic involves creation. Some applications are conjuring, attacking (with magical constructs or conjured materials), and animation of corpses. Most of a Reaper's abilities are derived from this type of magic. Reapers (and, by extension, any other users of Life magic) can theoretically use it indefinitely in Limbo or in the upperworld (though it would be very tiring), however there is a limit to how much they can use in the underworld (they they can do a very high amount of small things if they space them out, but if they, say, use their unique Life spell, they will be unable to do so for at least a few days unless they return to Limbo or the upperworld for at least a few hours).

Death magic involves destruction. Some applications are destroying souls (and, by extension, poltergeists and demons) permanently, defending against magical attacks by cancelling them out, and causing mortals' minds to deteriorate. More powerful magic of this type generally requires a Reaper to enter their Death Form, however simpler spells require only one's Death Weapon. Reapers can theoretically use Death magic indefinitely while in Limbo or the underworld (though it would be very tiring), however there is a limit to how much they can use in the upperworld (they can do a very high amount of small things if they space them out, but if one, say, enters their Death Form, they will be unable to do so again for a few days and they will find using their Death Weapon tiring unless they return to Limbo or the underworld for at least a few hours).

Despite there being standard magical abilities, each user's magic of these first two types will take on a specific form related to their personality, as it is ultimately derived from their soul. As such, in addition to the standard spells capable of being used by any user of that magic type, they will have a specialised ability as well as one (related) unique spell corresponding to each of their magic types. These can be related to offence, defence, or enhancement. Therefore, users of Life magic have one ability and one unique spell in addition to their standard Life magic, Death has one ability and one unique spell in addition to his standard Death magic, and Reapers each have one ability and two unique spells (one per magic type) in addition to their standard Life, Death, and Limbo magic: their ability and Life spell are accessible at any time, but their Death spell is only accessible when they enter their Death Form.

Limbo magic is inherently both Life and Death magic, yet at the same time is neither. Teleportation and portal creation are only possible through Limbo magic, involving causing the interworld waters to transport oneself and/or others (especially newly-dead souls). Through Limbo magic, one can also absorb a Wanderer soul to fuel their magic or, if they are particularly powerful and have the right training, can summon them and program them with a specific purpose (such as fighting, doing housework, or cooking), though training of this type was terminated in the mid-1900s due to ethics.

Folk magic is often looked down upon by Reapers, as they consider it impure and unrefined. It is completely independent from the first three types, as it revolves around drawing upon the power of the mind, emotions, and the natural world, as opposed to life and/or death energies. Most folk magic practitioners are Shamans. Applications include healing, binding, sensing non-corporeal beings, telepathy, creating illusions, and defending from magical attacks. It is in some ways the most diverse of all magics, but is generally less powerful and often requires time and incantations or potions/herbal mixtures. It also tends to be less combat-oriented than other types of magic.

Limbo is basically a giant body of water, equal to or greater in size than the oceans of Earth, except the surface is perpetually calm, the only ripples being caused by the boats of the Reapers and the footsteps of the Wanderers. It is here where Life and Death converge, and where the majority of the Grim Reapers, beings of neither life nor death, live. It is necessary to cross the waters in order to move between the upperworld and the underworld, and since Reapers are the only beings capable of withstanding the effects of contact with both life and death energies for any length of time, they use boats (which move of their own volition) to transport dead souls; it is during this time that they explain what has happened and where they are going. However, sometimes souls panic and jump over the edge, in which case they are quickly overtaken by the effects of death energy upon the soul and lose most of their memories and personality, becoming emotinoless shells doomed to wander Limbo for eternity, walking on the surface as shadows of their former selves.

In what one might call the centre of Limbo, Grim City floats on the surface of the water, a sprawling metropolis in which millions of Grim Reapers live and work until they either become demons, their souls are destroyed, or they choose to drown themselves in the waters to recycle themselves as energy (as their Reaper Seeds are inextricable from their souls, making reincarnation impossible). In the middle of the city lies the Academy, where new Grim Reapers are trained for 10 years (though the curriculum also makes extensive use of fieldwork, so that students may spend anywhere from a day to a month in the upperworld or underworld in large or small groups on missions, often without any means of communication to Grim City; this being in addition to their homework, which often involves ferrying souls). Nearby the Academy is the Department of Death's headquarters, a complex which rivals even the Academy in size. The Department is run partly like a public service, and partly like a business; ferrymen have a quota that they must fill, and they must regularly check the list of people due to die as well as the reports of poltergeists and demons and sign up for these "missions" in order to remain employed; if an employee does not fill their quota three times in a row, they are permanently discharged from the Department's employ as a ferryman, being drowned and recycled unless they can find new work, either as a clerk (doing paperwork, often relating to people's deaths in order to pass the deceased's files onto the clerks from the Department of the Afterlife), a caseworker (dealing with other Grim Reapers assigned to them), or as a policeman (policing the underworld and punishing criminals).

The underworld is much like the upperworld, and also similar to Grim City: one must find work or be reincarnated. Government jobs are very similar to those available to Grim Reapers (barring ferrying souls and policing the underworld), but there are also many other positions that one can hold: librarian, schoolteacher, janitor, grocer (as, though people do technically not need to eat, the richer often do), small business owner.... Basically any job existing in the upperworld has an equivalent in the underworld.

There are also several cities, all close enough together that transit is feasible, but far enough apart that there is little risk of them combining into one. The city that a soul goes to depends on how they died: there is a city for murder victims, one for people who died in accidents, one for people who died of illness, one for people who died fighting, one for people who committed suicide, and one for people who died of old age; among others. Those who die as babies are normally immediately reincarnated, unless a close family member dies along with them, in which case they are allowed to stay together and the baby is allowed to age until their mid-thirties at the most (they can apply to halt the ageing process before then). People can also give birth while in the underworld, and this is uncommon, but certainly not unheard-of. Souls are allowed to move between the cities, but this is not very common, with only about 30-40% of souls choosing to do so. Animal souls can go wherever they please and are not required to work.

Powergrid
OK, so there are three age groups based on one's year in the Academy: Years 1-3, 4-6, and 7-10 (though, of course, none of us are in Year 10).

Basic Powergrid (INT, STR, DUR, SPD, FS)
1-3 can spend 14 points in the basic powergrid, 4-6 can spend 17 points, and 7-10 can spend 20 points. Teachers (not that they're all that relevant) can spend 22 points.
Used for solving puzzles, picking locks, detective work, or building things.

Equivalence Levels:
0 - Mindless
Mindless drone, driven by primal instinct. Or just a vegetable. Either way, you are very, very dumb. In fact, who even made you a reaper?

1 - Tiny Brain
Well, at least you have a brain, but you have difficulty focusing, and multitasking is a miracle. You don't pay attention in class, which means you're generally not a very good reaper, so you might survive a couple of decades with some luck. Anything that could be considered even remotely complex is too much for you to handle.

2 - Below Average
You can focus for short periods of time, and you can multitask, but it's difficult. You're starting to realise what a pattern is. You probably have a passing grade in some of your classes, but you'll probably have to redo a few years to graduate. You might survive 50 years if you stay in the reaping business, but I wouldn't be surprised if you decide to turn to alternative employment. After all, they could always use more employees at the fast-food chains....

3 - Average
You're not the sharpest tool in the shed, but at least you understand what that expression means. You can multitask, but neither task is done very well. Patterns and formulas do not come to you naturally, but when faced with the same event again, you can apply previous knowledge. You're probably passing all of your classes, so you might survive a century.

4 - Above Average
You're a productive member of society, and get good grades in most if not all of your classes. You can work diligently in an environment, and can figure out logical solutions to patterns and formulas. You're probably going to survive a few hundred years. You probably discuss politics and world affairs in your free time.

5-6 - Genius
OK, you're pretty damn smart. You're passing all of your classes with flying colours, and you'll probably survive about a thousand years if you're lucky. You probably discuss philosophy in your free time.

7-8 - Computer
Were you ever even a human? It doesn't seem like it, because you process information with the speed of a computer. You probably correct your teachers on a fairly regular basis, and you are in pain when you see others struggling with concepts that seem basic to you.
This is for when you attack someone physically, with punches and such.

Equivalence Levels:
0 - Pathetic
Do you even have muscles? 'Cause I can't tell.

1 - Weak
Have you ever done physical activity in your (after)life? Oh, you walk between your classes? I guess that sorta counts.... Could be a lot worse.

2 - Average Human/Weak Reaper
OK, so you work out sometimes. But honestly, you're pretty weak for a reaper.

3 - Fit Human/Average Reaper
Yeah, you work out at least a couple times a week. You're stronger than most humans, but for a reaper you're pretty average.

4-5 - Bodybuilder
OK, you're strong even by reaper standards.

6 - Peak Human
OK, you're as strong as your human anatomy could possibly allow you to be.

7-8 - Magic/Demon
Seriously. The only way you could possibly get this strong is through magic. Or turning into a full demon.
This decides your stamina, vulnerability to different weapons, and how much damage you can handle.

Equivalence Levels:
0 - Fragile
Body is weak, frail, sickly or possibly underdeveloped. Your stamina and general physical constitution could be likened to that of either an infant or an elderly person. Either way, it's probably best you not get into fights; or any kinds of physical activity, for that matter.

1 - Average Human/Weak Reaper
You probably don't work out. You can take a few punches from an average person, and the average demon would crush you in a second. Your stamina is pretty low too. You can run for a few minutes before exhaustion. On a good day.

2 - Fit Human/Average Reaper
Reasonably physically fit but nothing too special. Can take some degree of damage but still vulnerable to everything. Maybe you work out regularly, run some laps sometimes. Your stamina isn't impressive, but it's not underwhelming either.

3-4 - Athlete
Physically fit, tougher than the average person, more resistant to damage but altogether still human. You're very athletic. Running marathons are no big problem for you and you can take a beating in a fight.

5-6 - Peak Human
Extremely fit. You've reached the peak of human durability. The amount of damage and pain you can withstand is almost superhuman. Almost. Participating in martial arts competitions or marathons would just be unfair. You can function at peak capacity for long amounts of time.

7-8 - Magic/Demon
Seriously. The only way you could possibly get this durable and such high stamina is through magic. Or turning into a full demon.
This is used for dodging, or getting from point A to B quickly. Average running speed listed between brackets.

Equivalence Levels:
0 - Pussy (Cannot walk on your own)
1-2 - Average (6-12 mph / 10-20 km/h)
3 - Above Average (12-20 mph / 20-30 km/h)
4-5 - Track Runner (20-25 mph / 30-40 km/h)
6-7 - Olympian (25-30 mph / 40-50 km/h)
8 - Magic (30-45 mph / 50-75 km/h)
Your fighting skills.

Equivalence Levels:
0 - Comatose baby
You don't even have any basic fighting instinct. How have you survived this long?

1 - Untrained
You have no training and little to no experience. You almost lack the ability to throw a decently placed punch and would stand no chance in a hand to hand fight with someone with even a little bit of training. You must be a First Year.

2 - Trained
You've clearly paid some attention in class; or you have experience from before you died. You would still have a hard time competing with someone who is well trained, though you're no pushover.

3 - Well-Trained
You have good marks in your Physical Combat class, and you may have either been trained in martial arts or had been in many fights before you died. You know how to fight fairly well compared to the average human, and you're about average for an experienced reaper.

4-5 - Master
You're a combat specialist who has been taught how to fight very well. You've achieved the highest rank possible in a single martial arts style, or have enjoyed extensive training in several forms of combat. You're a better fighter than most of the other students, but you'd probably lose against a graduate. Taking down low-level poltergeists is easy for you.

6 - Sensei
You've mastered at least one or more fighting styles, or maybe you have learned a few styles to supplement the one you've mastered. Even Master Martial Artists would have great difficulty fighting you. You can take down most poltergeists easily.

7-8 - Magic
Again: The only way you could possibly get this good is through some serious magic combined with rigorous training. Your skill is beyond human limits, and your reaction time far exceeds that of a normal human.

Magic Powergrid
OK, so this is where you determine how strong your magical abilities are. There will be 5 categories: Life Magic, Death Magic, Limbo Magic/Standard Reaper Abilities, Folk Magic, and Unique Ability. I don't expect anyone to have more than a 3 in Folk Magic, since only the basics are studied at the Academy. To use your unique life spell, you must have at least 3 in both Life and Unique; to use your unique death spell, you must have at least 3 in both Death and Unique.
1-3 can spend 13 points in the magic powergrid, 4-6 can spend 15 points, and 7-10 can spend 17 points. Teachers (not that they're all that relevant) can spend 20 points.
Equivalence Levels:
0 - No Powers
You have no magical powers. Seriously. Absolutely nothing. You might not even know that this type of magic exists.

1 - Decent, I guess
I suppose you could call this a power. It's pretty shitty though. You know maybe 5 spells. Most young poltergeists are at this level.
In Life, you might be able to conjure a pebble or a match-head of fire.
In Death, you might be able to befuddle 5 seconds of a mortal's memory (but you couldn't choose which 5 seconds) or disintegrate a soul's finger. There's something seriously wrong with your reaper seed though, and you can't use your death form.
In Limbo/Standard, you might be able teleport half a foot in a random direction. If you're lucky. You might be able to heal a paper cut in a minute or so.
In Folk, you might be able to broadcast a telepathic message to everyone within a couple metres.

2 - Below Average
You obviously have magic, but it's flawed and unrefined. You probably only have a year or two of experience. You probably know about 20-50 spells. Most older poltergeists are at this level.
In Life, you can probably conjure a stone or a small fireball. Maybe a few blades of grass.
In Death, you can probably go into your death form for maybe a minute at a time. You might be able to destroy a soul/poltergeist, but it would be exhausting.
In Limbo/Standard, you can teleport yourself a few feet in the direction of your choice. You might be able to teleport yourself between worlds if you're lucky, but you couldn't choose where you'd end up. You can heal an average cut or scrape in a few minutes, a large cut or scrape in about 10 minutes, and a broken bone in a few hours.
In Folk, you can use telepathy with a specific target as long as you can clearly see them and they're within about 10m/30ft.

3 - Average
This is your average shaman or reaper. You probably have a few years of experience. You probably know about 100 spells. Some higher-level poltergeists are at this level, but they're relatively rare.
In Life, you can conjure a fireball, smokescreen, small plant or the like. Nothing too destructive, though.
In Death, you can go into your death form for 5 to 10 minutes at a time. You can destroy an average soul with relative ease. You can dispel an attack cast by someone using magic level 2 or below, and reduce by half the effectiveness of an attack cast by someone using level 3 magic, but can't stop an attack of a higher level.
In Limbo/Standard, you can teleport fairly proficiently both within and between worlds, but you couldn't go farther than a kilometre or so at a time. You should be able to heal most minor injuries in thirty seconds, and major in minutes (cannot start regenerating until damage has stopped, i.e. if you’re being burnt or electrocuted you can’t begin the regeneration process until you are no longer being attacked). Things like regenerating a lost limb would still take almost a day and would be impossible in a battle. You can absorb a Wanderer soul to fuel your magic.
In Folk, you can use telepathy with a few different people at a time, either in a group conversation or mutually exclusive, as long as they're within about 20m/65ft. You can also sense others within a range of about 10m/30ft, but only if you concentrate. You might be able to bind someone for a few minutes, but only if they don't struggle very much.

4 - Above Average
You probably know about 150-200 spells. In terms of power, think one of the better benders in Avatar. You can take care of the average poltergeist pretty easily, but higher-level poltergeists and the average demon would still be quite difficult.
In Life, you can conjure pretty much anything that can fit inside an average stall shower and isn't heavier than the caster. However, complex machines (such as computers) are still far too difficult unless they actually know both how to build one and the proper spell.
In Death, you can go into your death form for up to 45 minutes, but it's probably best not to go past 30. Destroying souls and deteriorating mortals' minds are both relatively easy. You can dispel an attack of level 2 or below and reduce by half the effectiveness of a level 3 or 4 attack.
In Limbo/Standard, you can teleport groups and create portals pretty easily and go pretty damn far, and travel between worlds is easy (and you can pinpoint more or less where you want to go). You can heal slightly faster than at level 3. You can summon and absorb a Wanderer soul to fuel your magic.
In Folk, you can carry on telepathic conversations with several people at a time over about 100m/330ft. You can sense others within a range of about 20m/65ft. You can probably bind someone for up to 10 minutes if they struggle, or an hour if they don't.

5 - Master
You know about 200-300 spells. You might not even have to say it aloud. Few poltergeists can stand up to you, and you might be able to take down a low-level demon single-handedly, although it's ill-advised. Most reapers over a hundred years old and most low-level demons are at this level.
In Life, you can conjure pretty much anything. As in, anything. Of course, overly large and/or complex things are still quite difficult.
In Death, you can go into your death form for an hour or two on end, although doing so is considered dangerous. You can dispel attacks of level 3 or below and reduce by half the effectiveness of a level 4 or 5 attack. Destroying regular souls is ridiculously easy. However, you have to be careful, because at this level it is very easy to become a demon with too much strain.
In Limbo/Standard, you can teleport groups easily and travel across an average-sized city with no problem. Minor injuries are gone in seconds and major in a minute. You can regrow lost limbs in under 5 minutes. You can summon and absorb a Wanderer soul to fuel your magic; or you can summon and program a Wanderer soul to carry out a specific task (like a robot).
In Folk, you can communicate telepathically over a few kilometres/miles. You can sense others within about 100m/330ft. You can bind someone for up to 30 minutes if they struggle, a few hours if they don't. You can create a shield that defends against most physical and magical attacks.

6 - Demon
You know around 500 spells. Most poltergeists are boring to fight. Very few reapers are at this level, and no students are. Only a few shamans have every reached this level. High-level demons are this.

7 - Death
If you have this much power, you are Death.

Weapons Proficiency Grid
1-3 can spend 10 points in the weapons proficiency grid, 4-6 can spend 18 points, and 7-10 can spend 25 points. Teachers (not that they're all that relevant) can spend 40 points.

Its not that you are merely untrained with this weapon. Rather, you just can't fucking figure out what the hell you're supposed to do with the thingy you are holding. Like picking up a sword and saying, "Now where the fuck is the trigger on this thing?!"

1 - Untrained
You've probably never used this weapon before, but you at least have a basic understanding of what it does. Your skill with this weapon is worth shit (you might not hit the broadside of a barn from ten feet away), but at least you can use it.

2 - Trained
OK. Now you can wield this weapon decently. Still, you can't do anything amazing.

3 - Well-Trained
You've obviously received advanced training, and can pull some pretty cool moves. You're like an LAPD SWAT member with an AR: you're definitely better than the average officer, but nothing too special.

4 - Weapon Master/Skilled Marksman
Now we're talking. You definitely know your weapon, inside and out. You can pull some seriously cool shit, like accurately shooting from five-hundred yards away with a rifle on a rather windy day. You're like a Green Beret with an M-16.

5 - Navy SEAL
How the hell did you get this good? Seriously, nobody but the most fucking elite soldiers can wield that weapon like you. Some devote their whole fucking lives to that weapon and never get as good as you. You lucky bastard...

6 - Like Death with a Scythe
This shouldn't be possible. Your weapon is a mere extension of your own body. You now can pull just about whatever stunts you want with that thing.

Bonuses
OK, so you get bonuses based upon a number of factors. First of all, Student Council members get +1 point to spend anywhere they want. People who were shamans in life get +1 to spend on magic. Also, whenever you go into your death form, you get +1 in the Death Magic category. In the weapons powergrid, you get +1 on the weapon type that is your death weapon if you are in Years 1-5, and +2 if you are in Years 6-10. Additionally, if you have any points left over in any of the powergrids, you can apply them to another powergrid.

Credits: The basic powergrid is a modified form of Nightkill's and Lith's. The magic powergrid is a modified form of Nightkill's. The weapons powergrid is a modified form of Lith's.

Interesting concept, Natspi. I like it. (I don't have time to pick up any more games however.)

Have you given thought to listing it here? viewtopic.php?f=31&t=283489

There is a fifth dimension beyond that which is known to man. It is a dimension as vast as space and as timeless as infinity. It is the middle ground between light and shadow, between science and superstition, and it lies between the pit of man’s fears, and the summit of his knowledge. This is the dimension of imagination.

So... awesome... I just dropped an RP that I was about to join for this, because it looks so cool. I want metallic powers (if I can reserve things now. I'll have an app before the weekend.).
They call me Temp. If I take too long to respond, just TG me. Or TG me whenever, I'm online 90% of the time.
Anime God of P2TM, Last of Lithianity, Bro to All, & P2TM's Villain in Glasses. Kacheen!

And 2015 Most Involved in P2TM? On a roll now!

Reaper App:
Name:
Maiso Shitai
Age at Death: 18
Year: 5
Gender: Male.
Normal Appearance:
Image
Except black hair.
Death Form:
Pulls hood over his head, hair turns white, hoodie turns into black trenchcoat (still with hood). Black tribal tattoos begin growing across his body. The longer he remains a Reaper, the more powerful he gets, the more tattoos he grows.
Personality: Lazy, apathetic, and disinterested. Gets more focused when "on the job," but easily distracted. Likes his music (classic & modern rock).
Ability: Metallurgy (metal control).
Unique Life Spell: Steel Shot: Conjurs metal spears/arrows (floating in midair), and throws them at the enemy.
Unique Death Spell: Razor's Edge: Viciously tears the enemy apart with many small blades at rapid speed.
Death Weapon in Reap Mode:
Shikuro.
Image
But black blades. Can split into dual blades.
Death Weapon in Death Mode:
Mugen no Shikuro. Blades dissolve into small metal slivers, under Maiso's control.
Bio: Maiso was the son of Japanese immigrants to the US, and rejected most of the "traditional" stuff his parents tried to instill in him. He just tried to live normally and fit in. He adapted his nonchalant attitude after this, and even went by the name of Mark to escape his parents' tradition. He always had a rebellious side to him (if that wasn't evident already), and he joined a band in his senior year of high school called Rejected Revenge as a bassist (unsurprisingly, they played various forms of rock 'n roll). Maiso was killed in a traffic accident, because he didn't notice the crosswalk changing to "STOP" and someone hit him while texting and driving. After his death, he wandered aimlessly like he did in life, before being noticed as qualified to be a reaper. Then he was taken to the academy, and has been there ever since.
RP Sample: My signature has all my RPs, past and present, in it (actually, I deleted most of the past when they died out, but the present stuff should be good enough).

So... Are you going to do an example app? I think that could help, because I was a little unsure while doing this.

Yeah, I'll try to get my characters up within the next 15 hours or so. So far your app looks good though.

I'm considering making a second character, but I don't want to be the guy with both of the first apps. And I'd look too eager (I mean, I am. But that's irrelevant).

It's ok. I'm starting my apps now.

Also, fyi people, I'd prefer it if no one made a Year 10 (which is the last year of school for Reapers) character, as Year 10s have pretty much the same level of power as a full-fledged Reaper, and I'd like to leave some room for development.

Reaper App
Name: Mirna Darnett
Age at death: 15
Year: 4
Gender: Female
Normal Appearance: Here
Death Form: Here
Personality: Mirna has a neutral attitude and expression, but behind the handshakes and smiles is a deceitful and angry reaper whom takes pleasure in the art of manipulation. Despite this, she acknowledges her duty and does her best as a reaper.
Ability: Illusion Manipulation
Unique Life Spell: Nightmare Mirage: Illusions can become physical manifestation capable of inflicting harm.
Unique Death Spell: Fear Field: Locks a small area in a temporary illusion relating to a victims greatest fear.
Death Weapon in Reap Mode: Similar to staff in the normal appearance.
Death Weapon in Death Mode: Similar to the staff in the 'Death form image'. Its texture and color scheme changes, but becomes lighter while sharp edges emerge.
Bio: Mirna was born to a French father and American mother. Despite living comfortably as a middle class family, Mirna seemed to grow up with a rather twisted perspective of the world. Always causing fights between her parents, and breaking up friendships at school out of sheer amusement, Mirna wasn't satisfied. This kept up until her parents divorced, and she then became noticeably more reserved while living alone with her father. Deep down inside Mirna was fascinated with the influence she could exert in a persons life, but never went beyond those limits. While riding with her father in their vehicle, Mirna was hit on the passenger side by an SUV. The resulting impact killed her and critically wounded her father. In the afterlife, Mirna searched for a purpose and something that could give her an end to the repetitive cycle that she had come to know. Luckily, some deity apparently showed mercy on her as she was acknowledged as a possible reaper. She now attends the Academy.
RP Sample: Ashen Remains

App coming soon. I'm so tempted to make an app for a character from soul eater, the similarity of this is astonishing.

Reaper App
Name: Emily Trutch
Age at death: 8
Year: 9
Gender: Female
Normal Appearance: Image
Death Form: Like this except with numbers embroidered on her dress and tattooed on her skin, and without the crucifix.
Personality: She usually tries to hide her emotions from others, though if someone insults her she often gets very angry, and when need be she can take on the persona of an eight-year-old girl (such as when she Reaps people's souls, so as to not freak them out when a little girl speaks to them like a seventeen-year-old). Additionally, she has a relatively mild case (in the sense that it does not interfere with everyday life) of arithmomania: she tends to count people, especially by two, so when there is an odd number of people she gets annoyed. When she's stressed she includes numbers in almost every one of her sentences, and she dislikes it when people make wild approximations.
Ability: She can keep track of, measure and calculate time, distance, mass, velocity, temperature, etc. at high accuracy; for instance, she always knows exactly what time it is, she can measure the exact time between two events, she can tell the precise distance between things by sight, she can tell the exact mass of something by holding it, and she can tell an object's exact velocity and rate of acceleration by sight. She can also perform complex calculations in mere seconds or less. This aids her marksmanship.
Unique Life Spell: She multiplies the number of whatever she touches, with higher numbers and objects of higher masses taking a larger toll on her energy level. So basically, by touching a piece of paper she can create a duplicate by multiplying it by two, which takes very little energy; while she could also create 10 pieces of paper or a duplicate of a car, at the expense of much more energy.
Unique Death Spell: She aims her rifle at her target and charges a blast of death energy, calculating the percentage of the total energy in her Reaper Seed that she is putting into the attack so that it does not exceed 85%. The blast is then shot forward and accelerates well past the normal velocity of her attacks, and upon impact with the target the shot spreads over it and attempts to consume it (which is normally successful depending on the size and power of her target as well as the percentage put into her attack). If she charges it even above 75% it makes her very tired and magically weak afterwards, and if it does exceed 85% she is forced to revert to her normal form and cannot use Death magic at all until she returns to Limbo to recharge, making this a very dangerous (to herself) technique. When using this spell, she normally does not go above 60%.
Death Weapon in Reap Mode: Image (Except the colour is lighter and it's more shiny, kind of like a dark greyish-silver.)
Death Weapon in Death Mode: Like this except shorter (about as tall as Emily is) and about twice as thick.
Bio: Emily doesn't remember much of her life, but she knows that her mother died when she was very young, and her father neglected her, so that she was malnourished and frequently dirty. Beyond that, it's not very clear, but she does know that she died when she hadn't eaten for a day and asked her father for something to eat: in return, he beat her until she was bloody and bruised, and then beat her some more after that.
When she woke up, she was in a boat in Limbo, a Grim Reaper explaining to her that she was dead. She didn't altogether understand this at first, but she knew that she was free from her father. Soon enough, she was summoned to Grim City to be a Grim Reaper, having been deemed fit for the job, and since then has excelled academically ("academics" in this case including magic, Reaping, and marksmanship), though her social skills sometimes suffer. She is currently the Vice-President of the Student Council.

Bio: Norickamore was born to a poor family in a poor neighborhood that was rampant with crime. He spent a good portion of time in fear of being robbed or worse. When he went to school, he would often be teased for his name, or if they were feeling particularly desperate to bully him, his flame-orange hair. A few kids came to his defense, however, and these became his tight-knit group of friends. For a while he was often depressed or angry. But he was always there for his friends, and one day, when one of his shyer friends was being bullied, his darker side revealed itself as he got in to a fight with the person in defense of his friend, and it ended with the bully in the hospital. Over the years, he became a happy cheery person overall, accepting life for what it was, and seeing the good in the dark. But when it came to his friends, the bullies at school learned to leave them alone. Particularly after a second person was hospitalized after getting in a fight with him. At the age of 19, he was heading home late with a couple of his friends. He heard a noise in a alley. He saw one of his female friends being attacked, and rushed to her rescue. He killed one guy and seriously injured another, and the rest ran off, but the rescue hadn't gone entirely smoothly....
