World At Arms (IC, Sign Up First)

Postby The Sotoan Union » Sat Jan 04, 2014 10:52 am

World War II also known as the Second World War was a global war that lasted from 1939 to 1945. It involved the vast majority of the world's nations—including all of the great powers—eventually forming two opposing military alliances: the Allies and the Axis. It was the most widespread war in history, with more than 100 million people, from more than 30 different countries, serving in military units. In a state of "total war", the major participants threw their entire economic, industrial, and scientific capabilities behind the war effort, erasing the distinction between civilian and military resources. Marked by mass deaths of civilians, including the Holocaust and the only use of nuclear weapons in warfare, it resulted in an estimated 50 million to 85 million fatalities. These made World War II the deadliest conflict in human history.

Welcome to the World at Arms RP. Here players can simulate the most destructive conflict in the history of the world. Players can play however they want; change history, wage total war, or work towards global domination. For balance purposes this RP will take place only in Europe. Non-European countries that participated in Europe like the United States, Canada, and Brazil are allowed. Non-European countries may be added later depending on how the IC thread goes. Only Nations that have been accepted can post here.

A few things about this RP. Time will progress as the RP goes on, I decide when time progresses. The RP will start one month before World War II. After that Germany will invade Poland and France and Britain will declare war. Everything else is up to the players. As time passes countries will have access to the technology they developed throughout the war. Another thing to keep this RP interesting are random events. Random events are events I create that are added randomly to the IC. These events can range be diplomatic like coups and revolts, to militaristic like the development of new technology and tactics. Hopefully these random events will keep things interesting and will create a bit of an alternate history where things progressed slightly differently. New random events can be created by players and can be sent to me through TG.

Please try to keep this RP realistic. Some nations are stronger than others. Poland cannot conquer Germany all by itself and Hungary cannot capture Paris alone for example. Alliances and diplomacy are encouraged for smaller nations to help balance the game. No godmodding. Know when you are beaten and react realistically. I reserve the right to override players if i think their actions were to unrealistic. My word is final unless you can provide some pretty concrete sources to show that your move was possible. If you have any questions about the RP or your nation please contact me.

IC Rules:

Waging War:
This is a World War II RP, so war is going to be a major theme. To highlight the nature of World War II as a global and total war, if you declare war on another country it can only end three ways. Your complete victory, your unconditional surrender, or switching sides in which the side that you switch to has the right to take whatever it wants from you. There are no "short wars", no small tactical victories are displays of force. Every war becomes a total war.
Substitute Country:
If you need to attack a country that no one is playing as, the OP or a Co-op will take control of it as a substitute country. When your controlling a substitute country you cannot attack or make major offensives, you can only defend and react to the attacking player. Other players can request control of a substitute country if they really want it. The idea here is to allow players to interact with countries that no one is playing as, but to force those players to still devote some time and effort in their attack.
Logistics:
Wars are not won by having big guns, tanks, and aircraft. They are won by being able to use big guns, tanks, and aircraft. Logistics plays an important part in wars. You'll need to plan your military attacks carefully. If you invade a country, you'll need to have deployed divisions specifically for the task. If you need reinforcements, you'll need to take soldiers from somewhere else and be aware that it will take time for them to arrive. If you attack with 20,000 men, you'll only have 20,000 men and will need to bring in reinforcements. If your soldiers are fighting 800 miles from home, you are going to need a good supply line and don't think its invincible from the enemy. Basically you'll need to plan ahead. Navies need ports, aircraft need bases, and supply vehicles need good roads. Scorched earth tactics can be brutally effective, as can targeting enemy bases.
Types of Soldiers:
World War II saw the beginnings of combined arms warfare, so you've got to rely on your different troop types. Infantry are needed to take cities and hold ground, but they don't move very fast. Mechanized infantry are faster, but they're expensive. Countries have specific mechanized divisions and only so many vehicles, so you can't just make infantry divisions mechanized. Tanks are strong, but still need support. Aircraft are useful, but need airbases as well as air superiority. Artillery is great for supporting your forces, but it needs to be carried and is vulnerable. This may sound complicated but just use common sense, soldiers need time to go from France to Poland, tanks are useless against air power, aircraft need airbases that are close by, etc.

Diplomacy:
All official diplomacy must be done in the IC thread. If you've made a deal with another country you'll need to RP it for it to take effect.
Allies and Axis:
If you choose to join the Allies or the Axis, you are there permanently. Again, it only ends with victory, surrender, or switching sides in which the side that you switch to has the right to take whatever it wants from you. To officially join the Allies or Axis please sign up at the Allied or Axis threads. If you join you are automatically at war with everyone else the countries are fighting.

August 1st 1939
Helsinki, Finland

Mannerheim was walking out of his retirement back into the Army for the people of Finland were going to be thrown head on in to this war just as everyone else. The Leaves blew in the Wind as he opened the Door to the Presidents House. A half an Hour later he was told that the President wanted to see him. "Take a seat", Kallio said, welcoming Mannerheim to a Chair. "As you are probably aware we are in need of New Weapons, fast so I have compiled a Letter to Germany requesting shipments of weapons along with Production Licenses to make our own copies of the weapons when necessary as in a time of War". "Another thing is I have asked you to come out of Retirement to Make a new defensive line in Karelia to stop a possible Soviet Offensive". "Mannerheim you are now the Grand Marshal of the Finnish Army". "One thing before you leave you must prepare to start teaching you're Officers how to speak Estonian we are attempting to Negotiate a Deal With them rejoining Finland we must be able to communicate with the Former Estonian Army Units." "Good Evening General I will speak with you again tomorrow." As Mannerheim Walked out of the Office he thought, This will be the time of Finland in the Baltic, Finland shall not fall to anyone especially to the Soviets at least not on my watch.

Greatest of greetings, Mein Fuhrer. So it is agreed then. You will send the NCO's and weaponry, and I will assist you in any future plans. I only do this out of fear for the Soviet Union. We hope you shall stay to your words...

President Roosevelt was thinking about the situation in Europe. There was uneasy peace in the continent. The USSR looked as if it might invade Europe. Then President Roosevelt then talked to his generals about the size of the military. "Only 230,000 soldiers? That's terrible! Now, I expect you to make the number bigger in case of a war." "Yes, sir."

"We must stay neutral. We can't afford to get sucked up into another war." Then the Generals left to recruit soldiers and FDR was now alone again.

United Kingdom | Chapter 1
Before the war...

Commonwealth Congress of 1939

Background:

When King George VI took the throne in 1936 he had great plans for the kingdom. He watched as Europe slowly edged its self to war. The rise of Nazi germany was something of great importance, and he would keep an eye on it. The other eye, however, was turned to the colonies. The UK had a giant empire. It had colonies in North America, South America, Africa, Asia, Australia, and even technically Antarctica. It was a nation that was dependent on the colonies to survive, and he knew that. The previous monarchs had made some very correct moves with the mandates. Having foreseen the problem of the jews, they had divided the mandates up into smaller ares. As well he saw the success of the dominions and he saw a bright future ahead. It was his goal in his reign to continue the empire and make it thrive. He knew a war would unite the colonies once again, but he also knew that it could break it. People like Gandhi were a threat to the stability of the empire and needed to be dealt with. He had devised a plan and had worked with it multiple prime ministers since his ascension to the throne. It had been top secret and would result in the Commonwealth Congress of 1939 held on August 1st of the year 1939 CE.

Meeting Details Letter:

Image
To:
All the leaders of the Colonies of the British Empire and to all states within the Commonwealth

Date: 1 May 1939

Official Telegram of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland

Greetings Leaders,

Upon this fine day I write to you a chance to change the future. Each and every colony will be required to send four delegates to London to meet and discuss the future of the commonwealth from the first of August to the fourth. I have prepared a plan for the future of the colonies and I would like to hear your voices on the matter. Each colony will bring with them no more than four delegates and at least two politicians native decent. We will be meeting to discuss a plan for the future for all of our nations. It is highly suggested that the head of state of each colony be present at the meeting as this will greatly impact all of the colonies. No colony shall be absent, but if this does arise their future will be determined for them without a vote. It is suggested that each colony brings two men of British decent, and two of the native population. No man's voice shall be downtrodden. Local kings, princes, and the likes are allowed to be of the delegates from the colonies. India will be asked to have each of its regions bring men instead of four for the entire subcontinent. The dominions of South Africa, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand must be present. The mandates must be as well. It is in our hope that all delegates will speak the common tongue, English, but this is not necessary. Shall a man or woman not speak it, and translator will be required to be brought along. All travel fess will be covered by the Empire. Delegates shall arrive at least 3 days beforehand. Prior to the meeting all delegates will get to meet and greet me, King George VI, and voice their opinions privately. At this meeting the review of the plan put forth by myself such that it is content with the groups. If multiple native populations exist within one region (e.g. Rwanda) it is suggested that members of each ethnic group come forth. No man nor women shall be put before another and it is encouraged that all delegates learn the opinions of the natives within their region. I ask that you set aside such selfish interests and look forward to a new commonwealth, a united commonwealth.

Signed,

King George VI

Resolution:

The Delegates arrived as expected and met for the week. Delegates of every ethnicity were present. People from Judah, Palestine, Assyria, South Africa, Angola, Belize, Jamaica, Celyon, Maldives, Papua New Guinea, Queensland, New Zealand, Tasmania, Quebec, Ontario, Sudan, Egypt, Jerusalem, Uganda, Rwanda, Kenya, and more. Over 200 people were present to what appeared the be the largest cross continental meeting in history. The meeting covered a wide variety of topics. The four delegates broke up into two groups. One native and one brit per colony were assigned to Border Redrawment Council while the others were assigned to Rights of the Colonies. The BRC ended up reviewing the plan put forth by the King. They were broken down into subgroups by continent. The Americas was perhaps the easiest as they had come to a conclusion within the first two days. The rest, not so much. Each subcommittee had to be done with borders by the end of the meeting or they would be forced to used the ones provided. These borders were by no means unfair. In fact they were hardly changed. The king had spent 3 years reviewing the and devising this plan. He knew almost everything about the political climate in places from Angola to Khalistan. Endless debate about slight things like the borders within India and expansion of nations within Africa were the biggest issues. These ended up being solved eventually. The RotC had much more to discuss. They had to think about the future of the colonies as a whole, regardless of borders. They ended up making many resolutions in this time. Each issue was already laid out with a day for extra time. Discussion was forced and was quick. With many issues to cover, they spoke fast and furious. Discussion was limited to X amount of people per side per issue. Voting was done in a fair and just manner, which upset some people who were obviously outnumbered.

Borders: http://i.imgur.com/2r5fnBG.png
- South Africa Union annexes Angola and some land becoming the South African Federation
- Kenya and other East African Nations form the Union of Victoria.
- A Jewish state is granted in Africa known as the Republic of Eden.
- Slight changes to the borders of the mandates. Mandates will be given right to vote for independence or not in 10 years
- The Caribbean Union unites the Bahamas, Jamaica, and the Lesser Antilles
- The Pacific Union unites all of the British territory in the Pacific.
- The Archipelagos Union unites all British territory in the Indian ocean.
- The Southern Indian Federation is formed.
- The New Delhi Confederacy is formed.
- The Deccan Special Administrative zone is formed.
- Rwanda is directly ruled in order to prevent genocide.
- Imperial Assisted States are mostly run by the locals, but gets assistance.
- Anglo-Egyptian Sudan becomes 'The Republic of Soudan' and the 'The Nubian Union' and is split along ethnic divisions.

Resolutions:
- All citizens within the commonwealth get "commonwealth citizenship" meaning they are allowed to freely travel within all the nations of the common wealth.
- Voted with over 75% support, all ethnic segregation is banned within the empire. No apartheid. No pro-ethnic states. No religious states. Nothing of that sort. Does not applies to mandates.
- Nations within the Empire are not required to be called 'The Dominion of Canada" or the "Imperial Assisted State of ~~~." New names will be allowed such as the "Canadian Confederacy" or such.
- A Commonwealth Free Trade Zone will be established within the next 10 years.
- A central parliament, known as the "Parliament of the Peoples" will be made. It will have two houses. One based on population per realm, one based on equal representation. It will be essentially a UN of sorts. It will not enact any true legislation. Mostly just a fake council. Will be the main agency for allocation of funds to the assisted states. Will facilitate peace within the commonwealth realms. Direct voting if possible for the representatives.
- Areas of constant border migrations due to ethnic or other concerns can and will be united under single currencies.
- Renames the Commonwealth to the "United Commonwealth of Nations."
- Created a flag for the UCN. http://i.imgur.com/fpVJAbZ.png
- Allows for nations within the commonwealth to no longer fly the Union Flag within their flag so long as they also fly the flag of the UCN
- Denotes that all border changes and such will be constructed but will not be implemented. This is in fear of a world war due to the rise of Nazi Germany. It is a promise to the colonies that if they end their civil unrest and fight that they will get many freedoms, autonomy, and more. A big reward one might say.
- A resolution regarding Ireland and Northern Ireland will be made in the near future.
(For clarification, the UCN now exists, but its parliament and such do not. It will have no real power until after the war. As well the provinces will not have autonomy and such until after the war.)

Tragedy Strikes Great Britain:
7th August 1939

It is on this day that we mourn. Today we lost a great man, Prime Minister Chamberlain. He died at 9:04 p.m. on his way back from a meeting in London. Proceeding to his home, he was caught in a tragic accident when a car failed to stop at a light. It is indeed a tragic moment for the nation, but it is one we must soon get over if we are to stay strong. Winston Churchill is the new Prime Minister and I believe we will see great things in the future of the nation. Goodnight. ~ King George VI reporting to the news.

Winston Churchill Assumes Office
8th August 1939

Winston had some very creative reforms for the nation, even on his first day in office. He wasn't in total support of this new United Commonwealth of Nations, but he would have to live with it. At least it would mean a more unified fighting force. His first plans were for the Royal Army, Navy, Air Force, and such. He had many objectives that he would achieve. They would take months to complete, but he had many ideas. He had met in secret with the King and the commanders of the military.

- Form the Special Air Service, a rank of advanced special operative forces. He had always been interested in the idea of getting a small amount of guys to do the task of a brigade. It was his goal to get this done. This would be a highly secret organization, or at least for the start.
- Redesign the convoy system so that it has more escort carriers as well as fueling ships.
- Up the defenses at Scapa Flow and bring them up to modern standards. This would be a special order that needed to get done instantly. He wanted progress by the end of September.
- Have the Artists Riflists unit within Britain devise a better training system for junior leaders. Teach basic tactics in case of emergency of the loss of a commander and such. Reorganize the system of command so that people can step up. Remove deadlock orders so that soldiers can take actions into their own hands if need be. Dispatch this group to the realms by the end of October.
- Attempt to end cross-service competition for resources. This would be done through increased military spending.
- Train soldiers with the knowledge that the enemy is just as capable as the UK is in warfare. Try to prevent cocky attitudes.
- Supporting counter revolutions and such in pro-germany nations within the Balkans. They won't do it on their own and they need to be informed of the pro-Aryan stance of Germany.
- In the case of a total war, allow for inspections of the manufacturing plants to have them be updated if need be.
- Train soldiers (even ground ones) to understand the basics of air warfare and how that will affect tactics.
- Continue production of the aircraft carriers and make sure that all seven of them will be operational as soon as possible, but such that it doesn't hurt their operations.
- Invest in long range aircraft for carriers and such.
- Update the AA fire control systems
- Not to neglect the importance of radios and radar.
- Renewal of depth charging techniques and anti-sub combat.
- Allow for more flexible formations of aircraft.
- Recognize the importance of bombers in things other than cities.
- Update the armored division. (To what's in my app).
- And more.

Most of these ideas would not see the light of day for a while to bureaucracy, but Churchill was interested. He had spent lots of time in his youth sadistically fantasizing warfare. He believe that as the world power, the UK needed to modernize its armies. Had Chamberlain not been in charge he would have started it earlier. It was in his opinion that the lack of funding for the past 10 years had been a major failure on the UK's part. "The War to end all Wars" was a failure in the sense that Germany was just as strong, if not stronger, than it was before and now he was worried. He needed to act quick as he knew that appeasement in Munich was an absolute failure.

I'll take a ton of airplanes and large soft drink:
16th August 1939

The order was place and everything was ready to go. Churchill had got what he wanted in his meeting. A huge order of Supermarine Spitfires was put in. The current number of aircrafts was only 3,700. Chruchill wanted to change that. With a cost of nearly 13k pound sterling, the planes were slightly expensive, but well worth it. It was his desire for the UK not to only have the best navy, but the best airforce. It would be hard, but it might be able to be done. The order was placed and tons of them would be produced. As well, Churchill wanted to increase the AAA guns. QF 3.7-inch AA guns and QF 4.5-inch Mark I guns would also increase in production. Churchill wasn't stupid. He saw the rise of a national socialist party on all borders of France: Germany, Spain, and Italy. If war broke out, France would fall quickly and Britain would have to defend itself alone.

Convoy's Begin Operations:
21st August 1939

Due to the increasing presences of U-boats within the Atlantic, the Royal Navy has now made sure that all voyages are now in convoy style. Each convoy will feature the standard 30-70 ships with escort carriers, fueling ships, defenses, and more. They are ordered not to break convoy and search for U-boats as any unprovoked attacks would be horrifically dangerous. No ships may travel w/o a convoy. Churchill has expressed desires (over the news and such) to have the Americans follow suit as well. He says, " The Atlantic is an increasingly dangerous place. The rise of Germany is threatening our trade. We must take precautions as we do not want to end up regretting any failures."

French Third Republic

Palace Elysée, Paris, Metropolitan France
The office of the president of France was perhaps one of the more well-decorated offices of the heads of states of Europe. This was particularly true under it's most recent occupant, a man with a peculiar fondness for mechanical devices such as clocks, dating back from his day as a mining engineer. Today's clock was a beautiful, wooden piece, carved elaborately and with a crisp, white clock face and two delicate golden hands, and it ticked away pleasantly.

"Monsieur Président," the aide intoned. "Colonel De Gaulle has come to see you."

President of the Republic, Albert Lebrun, nodded curtly. "Send him in," Lebrun muttered, arranging the papers on his desk quietly.

The man who entered looked downtrodden, in his Képi and cavalryman's uniform. Lebrun directed him to the chair in front of him, pretending to flip through a manila folder, as the colonel sat in almost perfect silence, the clock on the desk ticking by the seconds.

"Monsieur Lebrun," the cavalryman asked eventually; "Am I to be discharged?"

Lebrun glanced up, and shook his head, closing the folder quietly.

"It is my understanding, Colonel, that you have some rather radical ideas concerning the organisation of our armed forces." He slid the manila folder towards him quietly. "I also understand that said ideas have got you in trouble with your superiors in the past."

"Yes, sir," De Gaulle replied, looking down at the looming folder.

Lebrun sat back. "Well, then. Let's hear it."

Miklos Horthy seemed pleased as he read through a report. The conscription policy had brought Hungary's military up to some 80,000 soldiers and it was continuing to rise. Hungary was well on its way to establishing itself as a powerful country again. Hungary owed much of its success to Germany, and the Germans were becoming more aggressive in their demands from Hungary. It was time to end that.

To Adolf Hitler

Hungary wishes to join you in a military alliance. Perhaps an Axis of power to include your other allies? Please respond.

Francisco Franco sat at his desk looking over the reports of the state of Spain, the nation was in ruins after just ending it's 3 year civil war. Now Franco and his new Fascist government is faced with the task of rebuilding the Spanish State to compete with other European powers. Franco turned to the two nations that helped his forces secure victory in the war against the Republicans, he sent telegrams to Rome and Berlin.
To: German Ministry of Foreign Affairs
From: The Office of General Francisco Franco of Spain

Dear Fuhrer,
I write to you in gratitude for your support in my people's struggle against the vile Republicans in the war. But after three long years of war the people of Spain have been beaten and bruised, our nation is in ruins and our military is out of date. I ask that The German government allow the Spanish State to gain access to the production licenses to the Panzer IV Tanks, the Messerschmitt Bf 109 fighter, the Junker Ju 88 bomber and the 8.8 cm Flak 18 artillery pieces to ensure the survival of the Spanish state. Also I ask that the German government provide the Spanish state with economic aid in the form of Financial support. I hope our nations can continue to be on gods terms in the future.

Signed,
General Francisco Franco

To: The Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs
From: The Office of General Francisco Franco of Spain

Dear Duce,
I write to you to thank you for your Nation's help in my people's struggle against the vile rule of the Republicans during the war. But after three long years of warfare my people and nation need help from our Fascist brothers in arms to rebuild and strengthen our economy and military. I ask that Italy give Spain economic aid in the form of financial support. I also ask that you give Spain access to the production licenses for the Savoir-Marchetti SM 81 along with the production license for the Fiat G.50 fighter. I thank you for your time and hope that our nations will continue to share cordial relations

Signed,
General Francisco Franco of Spain

After the telegrams were signed and sent Franco then looked at the diplomatic state of Europe, the whole continent seemed to be hurtling straight back into a second great war. Franco knew that if war broke out the next day Spain would not be ready to defeat her enemies, so Franco ordered the Designing of a knew Battleship and Battle cruiser class to better defend Spain's coasts and Franco also ordered the reorganization of the Spanish military, putting every commanding officer under review. And to reinforce the number of men in the military Franco established a new 3 year draft system which would hopefully bring the total men in the military up to 700,000. The Spaniard General then ordered the deployment of three infantry Divisions to the African colonies of West Sahara, Northern Morocco and the Equatorial Guinea to discourage local revolts.

Greater German Reich, August 2nd 1939. Zossen.

- " And so thusly..." Erich Von Manstein traced his finger from Poland, across Germany and tapped the border with France. "This, deal with the devil will allow us to devote most of our fighting troops to the Western front, for the inevitable confrontation with the Franks." The Austrian painter frowned, leaning back in his leather chair. Oh how he hated dealing with the vile bolsheviks. But they would get their's soon enough. "Ribbentrop, Diplomatic update. Der Führer rubbed his moustache vaguely as Joachim Von Ribbentrop, the diplomatic minister began to speak.

" Mein Fuhrer. We have received telegrams from the Sultan of Turkey, Franco of Spain and the Duce of Italy. Along with virtually all of the Nordic countries except Denmark. They request officers to train their soldiers and production licenses to produce weapons. " Hitler raised a brow. " And in return, Germany receives? "Ribbentrop continued. "Turkey, the Netherlands, Spain, and Italy are fascist leaning and hungry to regain lost glory. And the Nordic countries could be easily nudged into our sphere of influence." Hitler nodded. " Send them what they request. " After a few more hours of discussing, the meeting came to a end.

German Muntions Factory, Brandenburg

Albert Speer groaned to himself, the constant roar of the machinery were maddening. Not only maddening, but disgustingly inefficient. The former Minister of Armaments had died in a plane crash, and Hitler had saw it fit to appoint his trusted architect as the new Minister. In the first week he had decided to take a tour of Germany's factories, and what he saw was appalling. Factories were overworked with a variety of different materials and production targets. Oversaw by incompetent civil servants instead of experts. Women in line with National Socialist policy were essentially forbidden from working in factories.

Speer had a notepad of what he intended to correct. Speer, unlike others in the Nazi Elite had a extreme amount of sway over Hitler by the virtue of being his personal friend and proving his competent in the field of building. By the time 1941 rolled around, he fully intended to double, perhaps even triple production.

ACTIONS TAKEN:

- Synthetic fuel factories are improved upon and continue to be built.
- Old trucks are refitted and sent to German infantry divisions to help motorize them.
- Research is given to update German tank and Anti-tank weapons.
- German Scientists study M1 Garand, in hopes of giving more firepower to German soldiers.
- Autobahn and other civilian projects continue to generate jobs and revenue.
- Production licenses and small numbers of experts are sent to the countries of Norway, Sweden, Finland, Spain, Italy, National Socialist Netherlands, Turkey and Hungary.
- Hungary is accepted into the Axis.
- Propaganda emphasizing the average civilian's need to pitch in on the war effort is distributed.
- Majority of the Wehrmacht is moved West.
- Production of Older planes are phased out in favor of Bf 109 and the like.
- Albert Speer studies factories and way to improve them.

( Scientific research and recruitment is considered to be going at the same pace in real life unless specifically stated or made impossible by circumstance. )
I am from the United States, just so you know.

Duke William IV sent an order to his general. 693 enlisted men was not nearly enough to survive in this world or any. He commissioned for a draft of 3% of the population. This should yield an army of 10,000. Not much, but hopefully enough to survive until more allies could be gained. He then sent this message to the United kingdom:
To: The United kingdom
Here in Luxembourg, we feel threatened by Nazi expansion. There for, we have began the process of raising an army of 10,000. Our factories cannot produce enough arms or supplies for them, so we ask you to send us weapons, any weapons, to help stop the spread of Nazi expansion.

The Ayasofya, Istanbul, The Ottoman Dominions/Ottoman Turkey

The importance of Ritual could not be underestimated.

Abdulaziz II, Sultan of the Ottoman Dominions, rode proudly through the streets of his Imperial city, the place where 3 years ago he and his fellows had first raised the banner of the Sultanate and called out to the Turks to reclaim their righteous spirit. Back than, the people had been unsure, afraid; their warrior's blood having been sapped away by centuries of decedent Western "reformers", the poison of individualism and the all-crushing forces of laizze-faire capitalism they spread eating away at the Empire's healthy body until only a sick man remained. The Republic was willing to sit back while the Anglicans drank tea around the Dome of the Rock and the atheist Russians oppressed their steppe brethren. But that spirit of the warrior was not dead... only sleeping, waiting for a leader who could awaken it.

And that is what he had done; rallied the Turkish people to his cause. His worlds traveling by foot and air, he had called on all Turks to take up their arms once more, to answer the calls the Islamic world was sending and restore the glory of the Caliphs and Sultans once again. Their deals with the West had brought them nothing but pain and hardship, the so-called "Free Market" making them slaves of the Christian whim. And he had made it so; European factories had been nationalized to good, Ottoman owners, who had used their wealth and power to equip his growing army, the Republicans being caught off-foot. The Military apparatus too had largely supported him; many of the generals eager to stretch their muscles and gain the respect they had once enjoyed in Ottoman days, or for vengeance against the Entente who had ruined their nation. It had been a long war but, finally, the remains of the Republic had been defeated at Trezbon, submitting to the Sultan's authority.

Now, with the people cheering and bands playing down the ancient streets of Istanbul, he rode towards the Imperial Mosque; restoring the great building's religious purpose having been one of the first acts he had made. His Jannissaries; elite and loyal troops trained in the manner of the Italian and German Blackshirts, marched alongside him in tight formation, dressed in traditional regalia. Veterans of many battles of the Civil War, he trusted none better to protect his life. There we no holds barred in this victory parade, flags and equipment of all descriptions making their way with him. Certainly, his people deserved this for the effort they had taken to get him into power, and restore the righteous Ottoman system to its rightful place.

However... it was not quite enough. He had been delaying this grand appearance for yet another reason; a reason that awaited him when they finally approached the Mosque doors, high-ranking clerics and Imams emerging with holy litanies on their lips. Flanking the doors had been two important finds during the year's conversion of the museum back into a mosque; The Hırka-i Şerif, the Holy Mantle of the Prophet, hung to his left, while the multi-tiered crown of Suleiman The Magnificent stood atop a pike staff to his right. Bringing out these relics would be vital to his proclamation; a radio announcement having been prepared for just this occasion. Stepping before the microphone, thousands of people assembled to listen to his words and his best men arranged around him, the Sultan began to speak.

People of Turkey, celebrate! Today, by the work of your hands, Turkish hands, have we shown that Allah truly smiles upon his chosen Line of Osman! Those who tried to destroy our faith and our identity, to turn us into yet another colony of the Entente powers, are now more. Today, we have reaffirmed what has already been proven, at Gallipoli and against the Hellenistics; we are a strong, proud people, and will not submit to those who seek to destroy us. For even this spot I stand on, my home city, would not be ours if it were not so. Even the men of France, Britain, and Russia combined could not keep from us what was rightfully ours; the birthright of the Turkish people.

As Sultan, I have promised you wealth, and you have gained it. I have promised you respect, and you have earned it. For we are one nation, a mighty tree with deep roots, reaching up in prayer towards the heavens. Yet, many of our brothers are not so lucky. The Arab Peoples, who by and large stood strong with us against the tide of Frankish crusaders, remain under the thumb of those powers; colonies in all but name from the lands of civilized people, guaranteed by the Consort of Europe. The Holy Sharifs, the blessed decedents of the Prophet, removed by the heretic House of Saud, and the Hebrews flooding in to the land of our Palestinian brothers. Islam faces a greater threat now than it has faced any time in the past, and the voices cry out for the people to be free, as all civilized people must be. Someone must step up and represent their interests, free from the unjust claims of Zion and the petulant Hindus of India. The office eradicated by the Republicans so to buy their power at the lose of hundreds of millions of faithful from their leader.

This is why, before you today, I declare Sultantic Directive 4: The Reestablishment of the Caliphate. *Abdulaziz has draped upon his shoulder the shroud of the Prophet by a pair of high-ranking clerics* And pledge to all support our brothers in faith in their attempts to free themselves from colonial oppression, with peace and honor to all willing to work with us or leave our people in peace, in the name of Allah the Almighty! Alluh Ekber!

Let this be a message to all. The Turkish people do not seek war where none is needed. We bear no ill will to those who treat us with respect and dignity, and the dignity of all our fellows in submission to God. But we will just as willingly snap the neck of those who deny us those basic rights as a civilized people as embrace those who acknowledge them. We adopt our way to both shield us from the ravages of international capitalism, while protecting ourselves from the outside threats of Marxism. This is our right as a sovereign nation, and the people have risen and spoken with their hands that I shall humbly accept this duty.

Ankara

Despite being the former Republican capital, Ankara had been rebuilt and made stronger than ever before. Certainly, the Sultan had told them, once precautions had been established for security and Topeka had been restored to its former grandeur, the rightful Imperial capital of Istanbul would house the government, but for now Ankara remained the seat of the government. Here, much of Turkey's development was going into state/private partnership factories, where Republican prisoners-of-war and formerly unemployed Turkish citizens could make a living wage. It wasn't the most impressive, and not on the scale of the European powers, but Turkish foundries and assembly lines could turn out bullets that could put a hole in a man and plating that would deflect those same bullets from a tank like any other factory in Europe. It would be a week or so until the licenses and schematics arrived from Germany to begin production of their vehicle patterns; justifiable upgrades to an army who's tanks were still almost WWI barrels, so much of the work being done was to rearrange the place for more efficient production and the production of ammunition. Slowly, the Ottomans were building up their industrial potential; so they wouldn't run into the same trap they did 20 years ago.

On the military front, troops who had been working inland during the Civil War were being deployed along the Transcaucuses, and the Aegean coast. Much of the deployment would have to wait until the troops could be organized and heavier equipment build ; both those two fronts had to be covered, and were displayed as "Precautions against Soviet attempts to shift troublemakers over the border" and "Detear possible Greek Aggression against the Izmir Region". 5,000 additional troops would man the west, while another 6,000 fortified the existing lines with the Soviets, keepinig a close eye for ramel-rousers they might try to send over the border.

Kremlin, Moscow, Soviet Union

Stalin was looking at the reports for the military. It was still disorganized after he decided to get rid of so many high ranking officers in the Great Purge. The rising tensions in Europe was worrying to him, and with the current state the military is in, Mother Russia will be horribly scarred of war came to her. He continued to look at the map in the room. His general's were called there as plans would need to be made to defend Russia from all threats. They all agreed Russia needs to expand into eastern Europe, and needed to reclaim land from Finland. The only problem was, they didn't know who to invade first. Finland has Russian territory under their control.
"Set up an invasion of Poland, and the Baltic States."
"Stalin shouldn't we go for Finland instead? They do have land that belongs to us."
"No invade Finland later. Poland and the Baltic States are too weak to challenge the might of Mother Russia.
Set up 350, 000 men on the border and wait for my command to move in."

The generals left and prepared for the invasion. The amount of men required will take a few days before they would be set up. Stalin looked on as the men prepared to help Russia expand it's land and power across eastern Europe. Even with the loss of multiple officers, his generals were still experienced enough to set up everything that was needed. Communism would soon spread over the continent once Poland has fallen.
Uh, they're called green hearts.

You racist.

President Igancy was nervous. He'd ordered the mobilisation of Poland only a few days ago, as war seemed inevitable. He didn't care if his allies, France and the UK, protested, as he needed those men mobilized and waiting for either a German or Soviet invasion, whichever happened first.

He didn't have anywhere near enough men to defend both fronts adequately; so he instead followed a different plan. The Polish Navy and Merchant Marine had already relocated to England and from there to Egypt as per Operation Peking to evacuate the Polish Army should the Romanian bridgehead be needed.

He left the Pripet marshes undefended; there was no way the Soviets could cross them, but he split the Polish Army into 3 units; West Army, numbering 400,000 men, would hold a defence line along the Vistula below Warsaw. North Army, numbering 200,000 men, would defend the areas in a defence line stretching to the west of Warsaw to the Pripet Marshes while the final 360,000 man East Army would defend the Romanian Bridgehead and the areas between the Pripet Marshes and the Romanian border.

It was a sound plan, hopefully.

Binnenhof, Den Haag, Netherlands

Henk Akkerman, Prime Minister of The Kingdom of the Greater Netherlands

"And therefore, Anton Mussert is sentenced to death for treason to the party."
Five shots later, Anton was history. Fire squads were wonderfully competent nowadays.

Still, Henk couldn't be assured of his leadership within the party. In the aftermath of the coup and the ensuing tensions with the military and the royal family, power struggles had been horribly frequent. However, with Anton's deposement and subsequent execution, Henk hoped the party had shifted back from ultra-nationalism to what it should be: merely extremely nationalist. As was only sensible. The constant anti-jew rhetoric he'd been hammered with the last few days was simply annoying.

Unfortunately, tension in the nation was high. Admittely, five years of building up a solid support base and preparing a violent overthrow of government had led to smooth coup d'etat, with the National Socialists quickly seizing communication centres, supply depots and the parliament as well the royal family, the army was still quite divided on how to respond. Some 10% increase in army budget had done wonders to alleviate those fears. Why complain about a government if said government supplies you with second hand leather couches in your barracks?

Still, the army was a tad half-hearted about wiping out dissident figures and it was quite disturbing to Henk. Therefore, he'd called an emergency meeting with his favourite ministers. Listed, they were:

Rost van Tonningen, Armament minister. Virulent Anti-Semite, but quite harmless once his faction had been destroyed.
Hans Rodelaer, Communication minister. Bit of an opportunist, but aren't we all? Useful in press nationalizations.
Thom Oojefhaar, Foreign minister. Not good for much besides fawning over ze Germans.
Simon Bakker, Overseer of Finance. Fanatic in realizing his ambitions of state capitalism, if only the people would comply for once.
Dries Roelvink, Domestic Minister. Amateur singer, and not a good one. Pretty competent at crushing dissidents though.

"My fellow ministers. I would argue we are in a bit of a crisis."
"Revolution? Where?" Piped Dries, always overeager. Henk sighed.
"No, no revolution. Things are just tense, is all."
"Might have something to do with all the people dissappearing and the press being nationalized," Hans muttered.
"We should crush them, destroy their spirit!" Dries sneered.
Mental note: never let Dries near the pharmacist again.

"No, really, another approach is needed. We need something that'll guarantee the stifling of any unrest in its tracks..."
"Crush them and destroy-"
"Shut up."
Carefully, Thom raised his pallid hand. Henk sighed and acknowledged him.
"Yes?"
"We could just, you know, ask the Germans for help. They know we can help them... Uhm... Anyways, we can help them. If they'd be allied with us, they might send us some troops. That'll keep everyone quiet until the press does its work."
Realizing Thom had just said something useful, Henk muttered: "That could actually work. Besides, they might even agree to help us improve our army, and perhaps we could make sure the Greater Netherlands'd actually be Greater. Dismissed."

To, with the utmost respect, the Führer

It's been a few months now since our overthrow of the corrupt previous government, but tension in our country is on the increase, while the decadent Allies apply ever more pressure to our politics.
However, we see a way out. We think that if the German Reich was to aid us in purging our dissidents, we could then take further steps regarding our southern neighbours...

We propose the following:

-The training of Dutch officers at German Academies.
-Licenses for German armaments for our troops.
-Our domination of Belgium and its colonies, and the French colonies except those that the Italians might have claim to. After all, someone has to take care of them.
-The flow of oil from the Indies to Germany.
-The everlasting loyalty of the Greater Netherlands to a military alliance with the Greater Germanic Reich in which we'd follow Germanic orders, with some counselling of course.

From the inspired Leider, Henk Akkerman.

On top of this, Henk drafted and implemented the following policies:

1. Nationalization of armament industry.
2. Increase of taxation with 5 %
3. Military budgetary increase of some 500,000,000 gulden.
4. Military draft of 4% of eligible males.

They were expected to raise tensions. But hey, rebellion existed to be vanquished.
Used to be a straight-edge orthodox communist, now I'm de facto a state-capitalist who dislikes migration and hopes automation will bring socialism under proper conditions.

Government House
Canberra, Australia

Frank Forde, current Prime Minister of The Great Commonwealth of Australia, sat a round table, being at the head of the table, he could see all of his five generals sifting through papers and maps.

"I don't see why it is such a big deal to call in the conscription before the war begins, Mr. Prime Minister." General Dalton said sitting at the right of Forde. General Dalton was in charge of Naval Forces in the North Atlantic.

Forde stood up from his seat, put a cigar in his mouth and lit it, now looking down at General Dalton; "We have five ready divisions, if we called a draft we'd have thirty-four ready divisions. Do you understand what kind of panic that would cause?" He said puffing his cigar "The fucking Americans don't even have 14 divisions-- and they're twice our size." He continued.

Dalton stood from his chair: "Sir, I beg you to reconsider, every single man at this table agrees with me, every one of them. Sir, I'd rather be ready with thirty-four divisions than five if the Germans start beaching off of Sydney." Dalton looked for praise from the fellow generals sitting at the table but all he got were eyes either looking down at the table or at files sitting in front of them.

Forde put his newly lit cigar in the ash tray beside him, "Say aye if you agree with Mr.Dalton's theory." Forde asked the generals sitting at the round table.

One by one, the generals put there index finger in the air and said aye, in which indicated full support for thirty-four ready divisions. The once narrow one-minded Prime Minister looked at his subordinates, and said with extreme hesitation, "Muster up the reserves. The lottery for the draft will start in thirteen hours." After his small speech, without letting anyone know, including his guards, he walked out of the office and down to his room, pondering his decision.

Mr. President,
Your Excellency, during these times of unwilling nations threatening to wage war throughout Europe and Asia, we hope to maintain good relations will your nation, economically, militarily and politically. We would like to establish a secure line of trade that would bring our nations' ties greater than any other. We also would like to establish a Defensive Agreement, that states, if ones nation decided to enter a war -- unwillingly, that the other participating nation would declare a involuntary state of war -- thus protected each other. The Commonwealth government at this time understands the concepts of war, and we understand the severity of mustering up Thirty-Two Armed and Ready Divisions, but we think it would be in our nations' and your nations best interest to ally with one another.

Sincerely,
Prime Minister Frank Forde

Before the war...

Conscription? Conscription.
26th August 1939

Conscription within the United Kingdom began on the 26th of August of the year 1939. The Dominion of Australia had made the first move, a move that angered the king." They've forced us to mobilize. We can't simply let a domain mobilize but not the rest of the commonwealth. I believe this is a matter that we must address immediately. I want conscription to begin within the UK immediately. The rest of the UCN can follow suit. Dispatch word to the Indian provinces to follow suit as they are one of the largest areas and we need there men trained and ready. " The king was in a meeting with Churchill and the leaders of the armies when he said this. It would be of great importance to the nation to be mobilized and conscripted before the war began, though the days until that happened were numbering fewer and fewer.
*Huzzah he lives!*

Nah, son. Britain was all like "yo, why my colonies be all uppity an' shit?!" And Lord Durham laid it straight: "they be wantin' legislation with representation, dawg."

Mr. Prime Minister, we agree with your ally proposition. We will be opening a supply route and a trade one as well. We request that we can place outposts or bases in your country to act as a defense if another country decided to wage war on you, our ally. We shall also be sending M1 Garand rifles for you to examine and potentially make a new rifle with. We can muster up the divisions, don't worry about that. May our alliance never be broken, and last as strong as our friendship.

Sincerely, Franklin Delano Roosevelt

Greetings President,

It has come to my attention that your nation has just made an alliance with Australia, one of our domains. I believe it is within our best interest to form an alliance as well with the entire commonwealth rather than with just one nation of it. I fear the day when a war will come, but it is quickly approaching. I hope that by such intentions we may be able to prevent the war, or at least better protect each other. I do hope that we can come to such an agreement. As well, I would like that your nation starts to use the convoy system while crossing the Atlantic. It is dangerous waters with the German U-boats about and such a system as the one recently put into place by the UK, will greatly help to defend our trade networks. And one last final request is to purchase manufacturing licenses for the M1 Grand rifles. From what I have heard they are of incredible stature and we would be willing to pay to produce such that we can better defend ourselves. We see none of these as far out as you have agreed to do so with Australia, our dominion.

Signed,

Winston Churchill

Greetings President,

It has come to my attention that you have mobilized your forces in the face of war. Contrary to standard opinions, we are not opposed to this. We fear the rise of Nazi Germany and their prying eyes. We hope that your nation will be able to defend itself against the German onslaught. Intelligence informs us of a possible Russian attack as well. They have been eyeing the territory they had lost since the Treaty of Brest-litovsk. British and French forces are prepared to defend your nation as best as possible. As for Operation Perkin, your ships have arrived in Egypt. We trust your intentions and will keep them docked their. Perhaps they could be of use in the future?

Signed,

Winston Churchill

To Prime Minister Winston Churchill of the United Kingdom
From President Franklin Delano Roosevelt of the United States

Hello, Mr. Churchill,

We agree to your offer. We will be shipping the first load of M1 Garands soon to one of your ports. And we shall use the convoy system for our shipments of supplies and weapons to you. We also fear the day that a world war breaks out in the European Continent, and we shall stand behind our allies in the war. We are going to support you and your commonwealth as much as possible. However, we would like to get vehicles since our vehicle count is not very good. Many tank projects were cancelled. We shall also provide you with Colt M1911 Pistols and Thompson Submachine guns if you need them.

Greetings President,

Thank you for your speedy reply. I am glad that we can come to such an agreement. I do fear that the British tanks are not the best due to our island isolationism. I suggest you look to France and their B1 tanks. I, for one, know that we will be looking towards purchasing some of their tanks as well. As for the colts and Thompson, we greatly appreciate that as well. We know it is going to be an uphill battle with the American First Committee and Congress with trying to get America to go to war if it shall come, but I have faith in you good friend and I hope to see you through it.

Signed,

Mr. President,

We would like to buy your tanks, since we have heard great things about the BI BIS and various other tanks. We are gearing up for war, and we need the best things we can get. Also, we would like to enter in an alliance with your great nation. We fear the German threat to the European Continent as well. To: The Office of the President of the United States, Franklin Roosevelt
From: The Office of the President of France, Albert Lebrun
Subject: Armaments

Dear Sir,

While we appreciate the American support of the B1 design, the Republic of France is afraid to inform the United States that due to current security concerns, none of our tank models are, in fact, available for export as we believe they will soon be required for use against a significant enemy in a nearby conflict.

In the interest of pragmatism, however, we believe a compromise can be reached; the Republic will issue domestic production rights for the B1 series to the United States- and share the design of the vehicle- in return for Domestic Production Rights to the P-39 and P-38 aircraft as well as a US production run of said aircraft numbering up to 2,000. It is on the recommendation of the Republic, however, that the United States issues their own B1 variant with a larger turret, gun, and more powerful engine, as these may resolve many problems with the current design.

Should the United States successfully create such a variant, the Republic of France would be interested to acquire as many as possible within a short space of time in return for French capital.

In addition, France is willing to issue domestic production rights to the United States for the SOMUA S35 and S40 in return for a production run of the latter numbering up to 1,000; France will, of course, pay the United States for her efforts.

As for the offer of American alliance, we are more than willing to accept the creation of a pact with the United States in the defence of democracy and our mutual interest.

Kindest Regards,

Albert Lebrun

President of France

Dear Mr. President,

We accept your offers, and we also would like to include the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland in the creation of a pact between us three great powers.

We also support your recommendation of an improved variant of the B1 BIS. The SOMUA S35 and S40 are also going to be improved on by US engineers.

Signed,
Franklin Delano Roosevelt

OOC: Sorry for the short post, I didn't really find anything to put.
