But one day she'd gotten into an arguement with one of her friends, it didn't end well. Her anger created a burst of heat that incinerated both her friend and her home in a matter of seconds.
Tandy's grandfather, who'd secretly been a pyrokinetic, sent her to Sylvan in hopes of protecting both the public and his granddaughter.

I don't know option number two sounds funnest... Also did you see my post about Gabe's age. Mathematically since he is 20 and it takes 15 years to graduate Gabe would have shwon up at the school when he was 5.
