DARK HERESY
Chapter One: Erudite

IC is here!

Ravenor. Coteaz. Barzano. Covenant. Eisenhorn. Draco. Grimm. Grey. Helgrund. Karamazov. Kysnaros. Rex. Toth. Thaddeus. Tyrus. Vail. Voke.

Great Inquisitors. Hereticus, Malleus, Xenos. Famous and infamous, loyal and traitor. The Inquisitor is a varied figure. They are men of great power. These are the names of some of the greatest and some of the worst Inquisitors ever. We are not them. We are servants to the Emperor. We are His sword, His shield, His hammer, His spear. We embody all that is good and all that is right. We are those who would seek out traitors, xenos, and the Archenemy. We are those who would carry out His will. We are those who shall succeed in His holy mission.

We are the defenders of humanity and the people who would save humanity from its multitude of enemies; within and without, we will exterminate anything that attempts to harm His subjects.

The eyes of our superiors - Lord Inquisitor Vangt, in particular - have turned to the world of Erudite. Erudite was once a gem of the Imperium, a world on which only the rich tread and the great fruits and rare meats which they so craved yet which none others could have were grown. A world of pristine sapphire oceans and emerald plains, ringed with mountains so clean and free of influence that it seemed they were of steel topped with white quartz and neat, clean, pure jungles and forest unmatched by any in its sub-sector, let alone sector. Then the war came. First it was Dark Eldar, then it was Chaos - but the minions of the Emperor pushed them back to the hellpits from which they came. The world irrevocably scarred by war, it was quickly noted to have resources which would be invaluable to the war machine of the Imperium. Hives were established within three years as the planet's industry started like a warp engine. Now, one-hundred and fifty-seven years later, its first true sign of heresy has been reported. Lord Inquisitor Vangt has dispatched Inquisitor Paul Dure and his chosen retinue to Erudite to remove the taint at its source.

The ever faithful minions of the Emperor within the Ordo Hereticus shall purge the heretic from Erudite. Erudite shall remain faithful, no matter the cost in mortal lives - the lives of those ever faithful, the lives of those willing to die in His name.

Erudite Itself
Erudite was once a paradise. No longer.

Since the wars that turned its surface into a mixed landscape of craggy scablands and pitted wastelands, Erudite has become a world of manufactoriums, hives, and desolation. Those that live there are no longer the rich, no longer the happy, no longer the pure. The essence of the world that once made it so attractive was tainted by two different and horrible invasions. The essence of the world began to inebriate its inhabitants with itself; they became darkened, cold, and distant. The Underhives became just as filthy as any other world's Underhives. The Hives themselves were quite similar to other worlds'; a hell for the claustrophobe and the germophobe. Only the rich and the lordly have seen what the world once looked like, small shards of its beauty hidden in the world that the richest have built their homes upon.

The planet has become superdeveloped, approximately fifty-seven percent of it being covered in sprawling hives and manufactoriums and processing plants. It is a breeding ground for filth, but it is home to billions of Imperial citizens and it produces approximately fifty percent of the sub-sector's arms and munitions. If it were to fall, it would be disastrous. If it were to become corrupted, it would be a catastrophe. If it were to be purged, it would be on such a level that it could never be repaired.

The Inquisitor and his retinue must succeed.

Hello everyone! It's me, Gideus, off-and-on roleplayer, Warhammer 40,000 enthusiast, and now OP of this new roleplay! I have brought with me a new Warhammer 40,000 roleplay - an Inquisition roleplay obviously, having been inspired by reading some Dark Heresy campaigns such as The Guy Who Cried Grendel. In this roleplay, we will be members of an Inquisitorial retinue headed by me, Inquisitor Paul Dure (Cookies if anyone gets the reference.). We will be deployed to the planet Erudite to weed out heresy, as I think I have explained already. We are members of the Ordo Hereticus and have been dispatched by our direct superior, Lord Inquisitor Vangt. More information will be forthcoming as the roleplay comes closer to its beginning.

Who are you? Are you a sanctioned psyker? An acolyte? An Inquisitorial Storm Trooper? An assassin? A hired gun? A Sister of Battle?

Whoever you are, Lord Inquisitor Vangt or Inquisitor Paul Dure has chosen you to join the retinue. It is your duty - be it a life debt, your faith, or your life being held in the hands of the Inquisition - to serve, and you shall.

Name: Inquisitor Paul Dure
Sex: M
Age: 37
Appearance and Equipment:
Image
He does not have quite so well trimmed a beard after a few days on the job and his face is far more scarred, his nose crooked. He wears a very traditional Witch Hunter outfit, hat and all.

Inquisitor Dure wears a carapace chestpiece which is onyx black with a golden skull in its center. He wears a tough storm coat with a micro-weave armor in it that will protect against most glancing blows, especially from bladed weapons. He carries a power maul of the Adeptus Arbites model and a Hotshot Laspistol as his primary armament though he also has various blades hidden throughout his attire as backups. He has a bolt pistol in his right boot at all times and a Night Reaper model Catachan knife in his left, a gift from an old comrade. His right hand is an augment, a replacement for his human hand that he lost years ago. The augment has a miniaturized needler in it with two shots in the index finger and a digital weapon integrated into the ring finger. He also has a golden pocket watch.

Role in Retinue: Inquisitor - Leader
Former Occupation: Schola Progenium -> Acolyte -> Inquisitor
A Short Biography: Born on the extremely populous planet Ganyss IV, Paul Dure was not always an Inquisitor. An orphan of many years after one of the various revolts the planet suffered, he was eventually taken in by one of the many orphanages. After years of being withdrawn and defensive, he began to open up a small amount. Volunteering at the local church, he was ingrained with a strong amount of fanaticism from an early age. When the local Imperial authorities came with aptitude tests for all the orphans, he scored unusually high, and was immediately recruited into the nearest chapter of the Schola Progenium.

Excelling in the combat training and judgement training, he was relocated into a training program for the Inquisitorial Storm Troopers. While accompanying then-Inquisitor Vangt, he managed to save Vangt and salvage a mission, securing his position as Vangt's prize acolyte. As a member of the Ordo Hereticus, Vangt took Dure on every mission, eventually promoting him to the rank of Inquisitor.

Inquisitor Dure has traveled the Imperium for fifteen years, picking up companions along the way, losing many but always gaining more members for his retinue. His most trusted companion is Ibram Hess, his nature as a Blank making him nearly impossible to corrupt.

In the battle with the daemon summoner in which he gained Thaddeus Kardoff, he lost his right hand, losing it to the bastard's wretched sorcery. It was replaced shortly with his current augment.

Roleplay Example: PLEASE, OP.

Name: Thaddeus Kardoff
Sex: Male
Age: 39
Appearance and Equipment:

General appearance, though with different face and uniform palette

Thaddeus is a man who has not yet begun to feel the effects of age, and remains more physically powerful and resilient than ever before. He has trim blonde hair, a small mouth, a stern and jutting chin and jaw, and sunken cheeks. His eyes are piercing blue, and his skin has been bronzed by the suns of many worlds and scarred by a life of war and bloodshed. He has a long, corded scar wrapping from his neck down to his hip where a hormagaunt had mauled him.

His equipment is fairly superior for a Guardsman; he wears a heavily armored vest roughly as resilient as carapace armor, and also has a helmet that can pressure-seal and allow him to operate in otherwise toxic environments. It still has its original dark black color, the standard uniform of Gothardia where Thaddeus originates. He has an advanced lasgun that packs much more power per shot than usual, but has a greater ammo consumption. It has select-fire and he can switch it all the way down to a power setting where each shot is fairly weak, roughly as powerful as a laspistol blast, but it is fully-automatic and fires dozens of shots per second; effectively, a machine gun. However it can overheat quickly, and Thaddeus only uses that setting in extreme situations. He has a custom-tooled bayonet that he uses for his lasgun, and it can punch and cut through inch-thick steel with some effort.

For his other equipment, he has a bolt pistol he won in a gamble with an infantry officer. He keeps it and at least three magazines with him at all times, unless his mission forbids him having weapons. He has a combat knife, or rather a short-sword, that he bought from a soldier in a regiment where it was standard issue; a carbon-edged blade that can cut through bone with ease. He also usually has at least three frag grenades and two incendiary, as well as one or two teargas canisters.

Role in Retinue: Imperial Guard liaison turned bodyguard/warrior
Former (Can be Current) Occupation: Guardsman, liaison to Inquisitor Dure on a mission some time ago
A Short Biography:

Thaddeus was a common worker on Gothardia, a mining world known for its sullen and fatalistic attitude due to its radioactivity; Gothardia's main produce was uranium and radium, as well as other heavy metals. The lowest classes worked in the actual mines, while the middle class, of which Thaddeus was a part, worked in the bomb factories where radiation shielding was standard and few got sick (Basically, Gothardia exports nukes). Gothardia is perpetually at war with rebels living on the other worlds in its large home system, and as the Imperial Guard sees it as a low-risk frontier, has only a few token regiments there; the gap filled by Gothardians.

Thaddeus was among those conscripted to form a new Guard regiment to invade the rebel world of Taryx, which is actually a moon in orbit around an inhospitable super-Earth planet. The battle for Taryx had stalled long ago, both sides having nuked the world's surface to lifeless oblivion, the rebels living underground in cavern-cities. A trench line ringed the moon's equator, and for two years Thaddeus, part of the Gothardi 709th, suffered the usual grind of fighting for each blood-smeared inch. However when an emergency call from a high-value forge world under attack by Tyranids reached Gothardia, the 709th and a few others were packed up and sent to aid. The war there was a phyrric victory at best and only a few thousand of the 100,000 Gothardians lived to tell the tale, amalgamated and sent out as the Gothardian Mixed Infantry. After a few more blood-soaked campaigns, the regiment had finally been butchered fighting cultists; but that was where Thaddeus had met Dure.

The Inquisitor had been hunting a demon-summoner, and Thaddeus had been lucky enough to be unknowingly fighting that very man's personal troop as his comrades died around him. Dure raced in to the summoner's lair as the surviving Gothardians held the entrance. The Inquisitor asked for a liaison between him and the Gothardians; Thaddeus volunteered. Following Dure into the summoner's lair and firsthand seeing daemons, he decided that he had seen too much to remain a regular trooper. As Dure and his retinue, Thaddeus in tow, left, they saw the Gothardians had fought to the last man to hold the enemy out while Dure did his work. Thaddeus was the last man from Gothardia on the planet. Recognizing he had nowhere to go, he pledged loyalty to Inquisitor Dure. For the following ten years he had dutifully served Dure as one of his bodyguards, up to the mission to Erudite...

Roleplay Example: I believe I was invited.

Refurbishment of a character from an RP that died.

Name: Irina Eigen
Sex: Maybe F
Age: 29
Appearance and Equipment: When not clad in Sororitas pattern power armour, Irina appears of a short and stocky build, measuring about 5'6''.Her hair are red, kept in the standard Sister of Battle cut, face round-ish with a sharp nose and green eyes.

The encounter with a Heretek priest and his plasma pistol several years ago left her with noticeable scarring over her left cheek and neck, as well as the lack of left ear. Perhaps this is the reason why she keeps her Sabbat-pattern helmet on whenever in battle gear, unlike a good number of her sisters.

She carries a heavy flamer and a hellpistol, and is most proficient with flamers and melta weaponry, while not a particularly skilled shot (hence, the attempt to make up for it with the hellpistol's higher volume of fire compared to a bolt-firing one)

Role in Retinue: Adepta Sororitas (as per DH rules)
Former (Can be Current) Occupation: Adepta Sororitas Dominion (Order of the Argent Shroud)
A Short Biography:
Born aboard an imperial troop transport as a side result of yet another decision to reinforce a battered all-male regiment with an all-female one, Irina's mother and alleged father (whom she disclosed in order not to be shot by the regimental commissar) were shown clean of genestealer taint and ended up in the 45th Penal Legion. It was thus that Irina herself ended in an imperial orphanage, and later Schola Progenium on Fenksworld, during the guard regiment's brief stationing there to aid the PDF quell a particularly nasty Redemptionist uprising.
Showing a grasp of the tenets of the Imperial Cult from an early age, combined with somewhat above average strength and endurance caused her to be picked by the Adepta Sororitas into the next batch of novices as a best fit.
Near the tail-end of her unit for a few years due to a tendency to substitute action for thought, and not being much of a shot with a bolter, Irina's standing had something of a turnaround the first time she got her hands on a flamer during yet another riot suppression. Showing an instinctive grasp of the flow of promethium, and a good ability to orient herself in a cloud of smoke and fire , the decision from above that finally allowed her to swap the damn bolter for a flamer was a blessing from the God-Emperor.
The constant problems with Fenksworld drew the attention of Ordo Hereticus, which sent Inquisitor Dure to either turn the underhive's raging faithful's attention to real mutants and heretics, silence them, or, in fact, actually prove their claims of corruption.
Irina was one of a group of battle-sisters that accompanied the Inquisitor into the underhive, and it was in no small part due to her covering their retreat that the group emerged from the depths without any major wounds, discovering first-hand that someone has supplied their foes with Imperial Guard weaponry. From that, it was a small step (which regardless took two months of careful investigation) that exposed a Departmento Munitorum official and several priests as agents of a recongregationist inquisitor Leo Brost, in a foolish attempt to destabilise the time-honored imperial institutions on the planet. Following their arrest, interrogation and execution, Inquisitor Dure has requested that Sister Eigen join his retinue.
These days, she tends to use a heavy flamer, but still keeps her old weapon, dubbed //Vox igneus sancti// for largely sentimental reasons.

Roleplay Example: I haven't RPd on NS for ages, hence examples from here wouldn't do my writing justice. This is a now somewhat hiatus-ey RP I and a friend run elsewhere. My nick there is VAE (as almost everywhere else)

Name: Octavius Ultio
Sex: Male
Age: 53
Appearance: Here
Equipment: Custom-built Psycho-Reactive Staff, Hotshot Laspistol, and a knife with a sliver of psycho-reactive wood within it, allowing him to 'energize' it with psyker energy, causing it to be encased is electricity and thus prove more lethal than your standard knife. Good for killing Bloodletters, albeit, the range is not recommended though. Has a foot-long blade. He also has his natural psyker abilities, which can be used in numerous ways, but he tends to favor blowing up daemons in a horribly gory mess by sending a shockwave of energy in a tight pulse that courses through their body, then detonates them. Works great against heretics as well, just so long as they aren't wearing metal armor and are grounded.

Role in Retinue: Mystic, technically. However, having served in the Imperial Guard and utilized numerous offensive powers, he's not exactly hapless.
Former (Can be Current) Occupation: Imperial Guard Sanctioned Psyker. Worked as an Overseer and effectively provided a big-brother figure for a group of 'juniors'. Was brutally traumatized however during a battle to see them all killed at once by an ambush of Bloodcrushers.
A Short Biography: Harsh can be used to describe the life of everyone in the galaxy, but the life of Octavius Ultio has been especially cruel. While Psykers are destined to have a life that makes the fleeting lifespan of a heretical Chaos Cultist
Roleplay Example: (A select few are exempt from this. This can be ignored if you decide to instead make a high-quality longer biography. This can be an extended biography, a typed example, preferably from your character's point of view, or a link to a good example of your roleplay talent.)

Will finish later.

"Quod Vult, Valde Valt"

Excuse me, sir. Seeing as how the V.P. is such a V.I.P., shouldn't we keep the P.C. on the Q.T.? 'Cause if it leaks to the V.C. he could end up M.I.A., and then we'd all be put out in K.P.

Interview 1571...
Sextus Antiochus...
An average height, worn out look man adjusted himself in his seat and removed his helmet looking towards the camera he asked "So just tell you my life story?"

A voice from off screen answered with a flat "Affirmative."

Leaning back in his chair he state his life story to the servo skull "Well, I suppose I should begin my story at the very start, I was born on the world of Necromunda, the sixth son, as my name implies, my father didn't care to actually be bothered with naming each of us, and second youngest after my sister. My father was a high ranking member of the nobility, but after finally falling behind his political opponents lost most of his titles. With little left he joined the Imperial Guard leaving my mother to watch over myself and my six siblings. While I don't remember the specifics, apparently my father gave his life to kill a rebel general. My mother was driven mad and eventually killed herself, I wasn't too effected, never having been close to my father and the closest thing I had to a mother figure was the servitor that occasionally served us food the staff prepared."

"So my brothers, my sister, and I were brought to a nearby Schola Progenium so we could receive a proper education and serve the Imperium, I was just five when I arrived. After that I mostly lost track of my siblings, apparently one of them was killed during a training exercise, another one of my brothers decided to become a priest, two more became storm troopers, a fifth became a commissar, my sister became a member of the Adeptus Sororitas, and I lost track of my oldest brother soon after he entered, apparently the staff saw fit to pull him from regular training, I myself became an Inquisitorial Storm Trooper."

Scratching his chin he slowly started off "I suppose I could give you a lengthy and detailed report of my entire career, but that would take too long, so for the sake of brevity I'll just tell you how I received my worst injuries. You may notice my metal jaw, this is a fairly old injury that I received on one of my first missions, unfortunately I have little memory of the incident. I remember my squad had infiltrated behind Ork lines, our goal was to hunt down and exterminate Meks. We had eliminated several already when a group of Kommandos ambushed us in a dense forest and drove us back, one of them got off a lucky shot and blew off half my jaw. I lapsed in and out of consciousness as I was dragged away, my memory is enough that I can remember a Valkyrie blasting a landing clearing near us and driving off the Kommandos as it picked us up."

"Next I have my metal shoulder" he said patting his left shoulder, studded with bits of metal. "I remember we were fighting a group of rebels supporting the former planetary governor of Armageddon during the Third War for Armageddon, we were fighting our way up the spire of a hive in order to eliminate a group of nobles supporting him including some PDF commanders. Unfortunately several heavy stubbers had pinned down our entire column and halted our attack completely. Requesting that everyone else lay down suppressive fire I slowly approached the heavy stubber emplacements and started lobbing grenades into them. After the first few grenades the gunners turned their fire onto me, the shot that caused this fortunately was slowed by my armour enough to not rip my arm off, but still shattered the bones in my shoulder. However, them turning on me revealed their positions and allowed the rest of my squad to pick them off. Wrapping a tourniquet at the base of my shoulder I waved my squad to move on until a medic could help me."

"However, out of all the scars I have I believe I will remember this scratch on my forehead the most" he said pointing to a small faded scar on his forehead. "We were assisting in a delay action on Cadia, attempting to slow down the advance of some renegade guardsmen. A guardsman in red armour and covered in scars rushed me with a chainsword, which dug deep into my helmet, but I managed to blow his brains out with my pistol escaping with a minor laceration. However in that moment I saw several bright objects descending from the sky and slam into the middle of the rebel lines. We slowly fought our way towards them until we realized what they were. About ten Adeptus Astartes, clad in golden power armour hacked their way through a horde of renegade guardsmen. Before that I had been a skeptical man, having some doubts about the emperor, but after seeing the Emperor's Angels of Death in action I have no doubts about the Emperor, his divinity, or the might of the Imperium."

"To continue with my career, I retired from service as an Inquisitorial Storm Trooper two years ago and spent some time as a mercenary and bounty hunter until Inquisitor Vangt picked me up to serve as a warrior acolyte. I don't really have any definite hopes or dreams, although it would be nice to settle down with a wife and have some kids, or meet up with some of my siblings if they are still alive. Regardless Inquisitor Vangt can consider me a completely disposable asset, I have nothing in particular to live for and would be more than happy to die for the Imperium."

Pushing himself up from his chair Sextus held his helmet under his arm stepped out of the room.

Name: Ibram Hess
Sex: Male.
Age: 33
Appearance and Equipment:
An image of his face. A little different, but this is the main idea. Ibram stands at the height of six feet, three inches. He is broad shouldered, but has a somewhat slim build to him. His face is rather gaunt and sharp, high cheekbones and concave cheeks, with a seemingly natural scowl etched into his face (Has been told he looked like a madman once when smiling, which only made him laugh, resulting him looking more maniacal.) Ibram has suffered from a broken collar bone once when he took two slug rounds to his upper shoulder. Since then, he has regained full control of his left arm without pain, but on occasions, in situations with much physical work, the pain can work back into his left shoulder.
As seen in the above image link, he has dark black hair, which is kept slicked back, and he has a mustache.

Ibrams main equipment consists of the following (On person, not stuff kept back on the Guncutter/etc.): Arbite issued ceramite-carapace chest piece with shoulder guards, storm coat, carapace gauntlets, and carapace leggings. Heavy duty boots. Around his neck hang a silver Aquila and several symbols to several saints. Hanging from a leather belt at his hip is a concise, personal copy of the Lex Imperialis and a smaller copy of the Imperial Creed.
Color and main look here (Clothing-wise only):
Image

His armaments consist of the following (Also on person): Bolt Pistol, Pump-action Shotgun (Old and worn, however quite faithful to him and hardy. It has an old wooden stock), Arbite Shock Maul, a small combat knife, and a pair of restraint bracers. On his right middle finger, he has a silver digi-ring. Naturally, he is a Blank, so that can be considered a weapon (To negate his effects, he has a repressor around his neck, which can be switched off to cast the 'field' of his Blankness around him and others. Otherwise, it is kept on and within him.)

Role in Retinue: Pariah/Blank, Chastener
Former (Can be Current) Occupation: Adeptus Arbites, held the position of Judge.
A Short Biography: Born on the industrialized world of Heidrun, Ibram lived a relatively well early life up until he was seven years old. Months after his seventh birthday, his mother and father were both killed at the hands of rioters and heretics when they fired upon a 'loyal' crowd of Imperial factory workers. Ibram, very young, was of course devastated. However, new emotions swirled within him, such as rage and hate towards those who have killed his only family. He was never into the Imperial Creed when his parents brought him to mass, but upon being taken into an orphanage, his life began to drastically change.
Conditions in the orphanage where ghastly, yet Ibram survived by shear willpower and faith. His only possession was his fathers old book of the Imperial Creed, which he read constantly. Once he memorized many parts of it, he began preaching his faith to some of the other younger children, showing them the light of the Emperor. Naturally, the children knew little compared to Ibram, but many turned to him and listened. Others turned away and despised him. He often got into fights protecting himself against older children who did not want to hear anything he said, but he certainly gave them a beating whenever they attacked him. But he lost most fights, his young ten year old form nothing compared to the older boy's. But thankfully, when he was eleven, officials from the Schola Progenium arrived at the orphanage to take certain adept children. Impressed by his knowledge in the Creed, and his force of will, he was a selected candidate and was soon sent off to the Schola Progenium. It was there several paths were opened up to him, and while becoming a Commissar seemed ideal, another option appeared to be more appealing; learn and be taught into the ways of becoming an Adeptus Arbite, upholder of the grand Imperial Law.

His early years went by in a fast blur as he was taught the grander ways of the Imperium, yet despite being told the dangers of an open mind, Ibram often saw each side to things. But that did not cause a falter in his fate, but only strengthen it. He was eventually an apprentice to an Adeptus Arbite Judge when he was eighteen standard, and a full Judge himself when he was twenty-one. From here, life took another meaningful turn.

He became more tuned to the dangers of the Imperium, now a full adult, and worked to fight against the evil perils that threatened to degrade society. As a Judge, it was his job to carry out the supreme law where it was needed, which he often did, alone or with a full team of Adeptus Arbite Enforcers. In the slums and low levels of the Industrial Sectors, he became known as "That Damned Judge" when he would make his sweeps to find heretics and dissenters. It was also here, that his unique ability was developed in full.

Even as a child, many people had a somewhat irrational fear in the pale, black haired child named Ibram. But as he grew older, he saw it only as an intimidation set on by his figure and features. To many, he was an intimidating person, especially when he was in Judge attire. But a run in with a rouge psyker, who attempted to touch his mind, caused the psyker to burn out completely and his full 'Blankness' to bloom. People became scared of him, even people he had known for years. Following the reports of the rouge psyker and it simply dieing when near Ibram, an Inquisitor took him in due to the uniqueness of the case.

It was here, Imperial pykers, found out his unique trait, and after a lengthy hearing and trial, he was proven to be no heretic and allowed to be set free under one condition: His work was to be carried out under the Inquisition now. He had little qualm to this, and was given a repressor to curb his trait around others, bringing it into himself when it was activated, and casting the blank field around him when off.

(If I can add this?)
As he was no Inquisitor and could not currently work alone, he was selected by an Inquisitor who was passing by and had a need for his particular trait. Inquisitor Paul Dure had selected him to accompany his work, as a psychic null was a useful individual to have around. For nearly a decade, Ibram had been in the fold of Dure's retinue.

Roleplay Example: I was invited.

Apologies for the shabby bio, I have just come to an impass in writing one. Combined with some other work, I just wanted it done.

So we'll have a psyker and a blank in one party.
Oh my. This will be hillarious

Oh, and a bit of a hint with the bio. Being a blank makes you exceptionally *uncharismatic* - people just have an odd feeling around you. Think of gunner Ferik Jurgen from Commissar Cain novels.
It's also why necron pariahs are so damn impossibly terrifying.

The Blank does have his Restrainer necklace or whatever. He won't kill the psyker or cause him major discomfort outright.

Not always. It can cause fear instead of revulsion (assuming that is what you meant for uncharismatic), and that is with the resistor off. Ibram happens to give people a fear feeling, causing a sense of urgency and trouble around him.

This is not my first tango as a Blank nor W40K.

Application

Name: Nikohai " The Cossack “ Miritaz
Sex: Male
Age: 48
Appearance and Equipment: Standing at 6'4, and over 210 pounds. He is a rather large man, quite imposing, for a normal human. He is older, quite aged and his face and body is worn out. His skin is leathery, his face covered with scars and holes in his face from years of service and surviving on the streets. His body well maintained, he is muscular but not overtly, not much to hinder his movements.

His equipment includes a modified black market Carapace Armour that is modified around the knees and shoulders to allow for more flexibility and movement while also reducing the weight on the armor. He carries one Needle Pistol and One Inferno Pistol, as well as one Dark Eldar Power sword which he acquired as a pirate er for the Imperium.

Role in Retinue: He is the hired gun, the muscle, he is proficient in melee combat however his true skill comes with his list of contacts, both administrative and underworld. His reputation as a fearsome gangster, pirate and soldier has given him credible reputation when dealing with black market, criminals and trying to find contacts/source and moles within the underworld of hive cities.
Former (Can be Current) Occupation: Former Arbite, Gangster for Van Haar Family ( Similiar to Van Saar in Necromuda ), then Rogue Trader, then Imperial contact
A Short Biography: A disgraced Arbite that served on Erudite nearly two decades ago. He was found guilty of accepting bribes and was sentenced to forty years hard labor. However after serving three years, he managed to escape during a prison riot and lived on the run in the massive lower decks of the hive city of Erudite. He grew up from dire poverty and had to fight to survive in his world. At the age of eleven, he was plucked by the Arbite Chapter for showing great survival and team instincts. He grew into his role and did rather well, not exceedingly well but well enough to be put on the streets at age 18. From then, he served as a street-level judge, just policing and maintaining the order of the streets. However, with a rather large family, and no one else supporting them. He took some bribe money and dwelled into the criminal world to earn some extra cash to support his family.

After being caught nearly a year into his job, he was sentenced for forty years of hard labor on a mining world until he managed to escape during his transporting march to a prison barge which happened to coincide with a massive prison riot. He afterwards disappeared into the darkest depths of the lowerly Hive decks. Blending in and getting lost in the huddled masses, and the extreme lawlessness of the lower decks. He was noticed by the Van Haar family after doing some " Wet Work " for them as an assassin, as well as a problem solver. Covertly taking out Van Haar men who had become too powerful or rivaled the Baron's power within his gang. He was promoted, however as he moved up the ranks of the family, the Imperium had now rediscovered the former criminal but he was able to make a deal in exchange for his services as an underworld specialist, he would give the Imperial Critical information, goods, services and assistance in getting rid of heretical cults, pirates, criminals and threats to the Imperium.

He became a rogue trader, given a merchant ship and began meddling wares to different war zones and exploring different sectors of the galaxy. However he had been contacted by Lord Inquisitor Vangt to assist him in his mission on Erudite, due to his crucial information on various gangs, areas, institutions, as well as contacts to gain assistance from friends, hired guns, where to get and acquire more weaponry and most of all, his way around the underworld's darkest depths.

Name: Real name forgotten, insists on being called Larry
Sex: Male
Age: 27
Appearance and Equipment: A tall (7ft. 5 in.) and lean man, with spindly limbs. Wears a dark, ragged coat, a black hood and balaclava hiding his face. Beneath the mask, he has a gaunt hollow face with his skin dyed chalk white, teeth filed into points, and white hair. Wears dark grey pants are a bit worn and frayed at the ends with a few tears, doesn't wear shoes or gloves, exposing augmented hands. Chains, shackles, and keys hang from his form, going for an all around eerie visage somewhat reminiscent of the Grim Reaper.

Heavily augmented, with all four limbs replaced skeletal augs, and both eyes. Eyes glow yellow for intimidation factor, but can be dialed down if stealth is needed. Strong enough to hoist an adult human in one hand, and can carry many items for the party in his assortment bags, pockets, chains, shackles, small cages, bandoleers, and chests, be they ammunition, bombs, weapons, trinkets, mechanical parts, prisoners, live animals, and in one instance a small child (long story). Has three small null-chests hanging across his torso and one larger one one his back, allowing (somewhat) safe transportation of Chaos artifacts for the Inquisition.

For combat, he prefers to stay out of melee, despite his great strength, though is pressed he has decent hand to hand skills and the points of his fingers are sharp enough to draw blood. He fights at range with an "acquired" bolter, which he has plenty of ammunition for and is able to safely fire due to augments. Also possesses a small holdout laspistol in a tiny compartment built into his chest (around where his right kidney used to be) and has a digi-weapon in his left eye.

In the event that the Inquisitor is unable to get the aid of certain individuals, Larry is skilled at "persuading" them to join their mission, be it through intimidation and terror, politely talking them into joining, or via the most direct approach of using an explosive collar.

Role in Retinue: Interrogator/Warrior, unofficially "mule" and "recruiter"

Name:Sister Faustina, Chirurgeon (Surgeon), Order of the Eternal Candle.
Sex: Female
Age: 30
Appearance and Equipment:
Sister Faustina stands 5'5". Her naturally curly brunette hair is worn closely cropped. She has hazel eyes. (Picture to be included at a later time) She is no stranger to combat; she bears an augmented left forearm and hand.

Equipment: Her medi-pack includes standard equipment and supplies (anti-venoms, healing agents, sterile clay, stim-packs etc) as well as a few modifications. She carries a Carnifex and Reductor, and her power armor is equipped with various items to support her work in the field. An example can be found here; her own armor is crimson and bone in color scheme. She carries a standard bolt pistol but is proficient with an Eviscerator. Her personal items include a few good reads, paper and writing instruments (she sketches in her spare time), and uniforms indicative of her order.

Role in Retinue: Acolyte - Medical/Interrogation
Former (Can be Current) Occupation: Medical Support
A Short Biography:

The old Canoness Preceptor fastened her wizened hands and set them atop the folder on her desk. “Do come in, Sister Faustina,” she wheezed to the young woman waiting uncomplainingly outside of her door.

The latter presented herself, bone-white robes whispering as she crossed the distance from door to desk. She bowed and stood obediently before her superior and subjected herself to the Canoness Preceptor’s scrutiny, her own hands clasped together and obscured by long sleeves. She kept her gaze reverentially at the floor and basked in the warm glow cast by the dying rays of sunlight filtering in through the stained glass window behind the old woman.

“According to our records, the Convent Sanctorum has been your home since you were a very small child.”

“Yes, Canoness Preceptor,” the Sister replied. “I was orphaned and later brought here by Sister Sequestrium.”

“Do you recall anything from your early childhood, Sister Faustina?”

“No, Canoness Preceptor, although I believe I was perpetually ravenous and dirty. Sister Sequestrium set me to work sweeping floors in exchange for room and board.

The Canoness Preceptor nodded and leaned back in her chair. “Yes, and from there you seemed to apply yourself, eventually joining our Order. Your records indicate that you possess a certain tenacity and dedication to your work. This is all well and good, but I’m concerned Sister Faustina. I’m very concerned. You don’t seem to rotate often and when you do, trouble has a habit of visiting you.

Sister Faustina paled slightly. “Canoness Preceptor, I’ve been assigned to units prior and served as medical support. I fared well each time and I enjoyed the assignments.”

“Twice, Sister Faustina. You’ve been assigned twice. The first mission-“

“Was regrettably a failure,” Sister Faustina dared to interrupt. “I was still young and very inexperienced, and I hadn’t adjusted to life outside the Convent yet, Canoness Preceptor. The Commiss-”

“I am not talking about that damn Commissar,” the Canoness Preceptor’s fist thudded into the golden-toned wood of the desk. “I’m talking about DuPrent Port. To this very day, your explanation of events still doesn’t sit well with me. You were engaged in a physical altercation along with six Space Marines and a Tech Priest. A bar fight, Sister Faustina. One of the Sisters of the Order of the Eternal Candle, my Order, engaging in a damn drunken brawl!”

“Canoness Preceptor, I was not drunk. The Enginseer was assailed by regular patrons outside the establishment and I rose to render aid to him.”

“I believe that was when they tore off your arm, Sister Faustina?” the old woman snarled.

“No, Canoness Preceptor. That was when they broke my nose. My arm was severed after the Space Marines involved themselves and it was purely by accident.”

“By accident, of course,” Faustina’s superior ground the heels of her palms into her own eyes and drew a deep breath. “Let’s move on, shall we? I believe your last assignment was lengthy and well served, but it ended after you were asked to assist with an Inquisition?”

“Yes, Canoness Preceptor. A heretic was brought in by Sisters of the Order of the Eternal Gate. The Inquisitor in charge asked for my services.”

“You tortured him.”

“He confessed and repented, Canoness Preceptor. He turned from his heterodox beliefs and is a productive member of the Imperium once again.”

“He still wets the bed at night, Sister Faustina.”

“Most unfortunate, Canoness Preceptor. I assure you that my ministrations were only partially to blame. The Sisters wanted to execute him outright. It was only fair that I offer him a chance to atone. I had the Inquisitor’s blessing. I don’t know why I was rotated back here; the Inquisitor seemed pleased with my work however.”

The old Canoness prayed for patience. “Sister Faustina, you are a talented Chirurgeon, exemplary in performance. You are a most compassionate soul and a credit to our Order. Other Canonesses and your fellow Sisters speak favorably of your bedside manner and attention to detail. But your zeal and tenacity, Sister Faustina. Those things set you apart for something greater.

“I’m reassigning you. You’ll leave Ophelia VII tomorrow for Erudite. There you will report to Inquisitor Paul Dure and be attached to his Retinue. This is quite an honor, Sister Faustina. Let us pray that you don’t fuck it up too badly.”

“Thank you, Canoness Preceptor,” Sister Faustina bowed and, realizing that she was being dismissed, she quickly left.

Swith, Bone, and Sara are all accepted.

I am currently only awaiting an application from Segmentia and a finish application from AETEN before I post the IC.

I must say, I love the diversity our party has. It's so unusual to find such great diversity in a 40k roleplay to my experience.

And I got a good laugh at Sister Faustina's backstory. Well done, Swith.

As for diversity, dunno. I think we're right on par with Amberley's retinue in 5th Cain book - Rakel (psyker) Jurgen (blank) Cain (commissar) , then another former commissar from penal legion, a former arbites ,and a pilot. (I cant' recall their names offhand)

Too many ranged warrior acolytes, I am switching my Inquisitorial storm trooper out for a crusader, gonna be a good bit younger and completely melee oriented, a tad ironic being that several ranged characters are taller than him. Posting the info ASAP.

Name: Sextus Antiochus
Sex: Male
Age: 25
Appearance and Equipment: Approximately 6 feet tall with long blonde hair generally kept under his helmet that he rarely removes. His build is somewhat heavy with broad shoulders, a powerful upper body, and a thick neck.

He wears a suit of light carapace armour which covers most of his body and includes a helmet, his gauntlets have small adamantine studs in the knuckles to help him cause extra injury with his punches. He also carries a relatively medium storm shield approximately 1.5 feet by 1.5 feet and a hand and a half power sword, which can be used with one hand but has room on the hilt for a second hand for extra strength and control behind swings.
Role in Retinue: Crusader
Former (Can be Current) Occupation: Crusader
A Short Biography:
Sextus Antiochus' early history is foggy even to himself, having ended up in a Schola Progenium by the time he was five with little knowledge to his parents. Growing up in the Schola Progenium he showed a habit of extreme fanaticism in the Imperial Cult resulting in him training to become a crusader with an intense hatred of psykers in general and heretical psykers in particular.

After graduating from the Schola Progenium he joined a crusader house dedicated to the Ordo Hereticus and was assigned and accepted as a Guard of Inquisitor Paul Dure at the age of twenty, soon after he had graduated. Since then he has served his master with the utmost dedication, cutting down whoever Inquisitor Paul Dure orders him to without any questions asked.

Hehehe, with three characters who have roles that fall under interrogation, I almost feel bad for the poor bastard we bring in.
