Is This The World We Created? (AWRP OOC/Signups/Closed)

Postby Nightkill the Emperor » Thu Dec 20, 2012 11:29 pm

Is this the world we created, we made it on our own
Is this the world we devastated, right to the bone
If there's a God in the sky looking down
What can he think of what we've done
To the world that He created.

Map.
#1800s for our chat.

AWRPs. Finding the perfect one and making it work...this has always been a legendarily tough task. But this has been left to myth, deemed as an impossible task and those who attempt it as naive optimists and idealists. Eventually cynics have been born through this endless cycle of hope and eventually an end.

But we few, we happy few, we band of brothers, for he today that spends his time with me shall be my brother, be he ne'er so vile, this rp shall gentle his condition. And gentlemen in P2TM accursed were not here and hold their manhoods cheap whiles any speaks that rp'd with us here today.

So let's fucking do it, darling!

Now, first things first- I am God. What I say is what is true. I will randomly fuck with your countries. I will take control of any NPCs you may choose to invade. I will lead terrorist attacks and natural disasters in your countries. I will also have good things happen to you if you aren't a dumbass. My co-OPs can also do this to you.

This rp departs from normal history at the point of January 1st, 1500. This rp now begins in January 1st, 1920. I or my co-OPs (Garwall or Ceann) shall manage time progression after consultation with each other.

Points System

Here is the points system (you start out with 50, minus 1 for every 50 million): I'd also recommend using decimals, but it's not like you have to or anything. Also, countries under 40 million get 1 extra point, under 30 million, 2 points, under 20 million, 3 points, countries under 10 million, 4 points. those under 5 million, 5 extra points.

Economy:
Your points for the economy will determine your GDP per capita, and GDP. For every ten million people you have, the value of this point for your GDP per capita will go down my $15. The formula is your population rounded down to the nearest ten million, then divide it by ten million, multiply it by fifteen, then subtract that from $2000. After 100 million though, GDP will start going down at $20 per ten million. After 200 million, $30, and after 300 million, $45.

For example, a nation of 137 million would therefore get $1785 GDP per capita for every point spent on this. And I'm sure everyone knows that GDP is GDP per capita multiplied by your population.

Happiness:
One point for this is 8% happiness. So don't spend over 12.5 points on this, or you'll be wasting valuable points. Low happiness means riots, revolts, and revolutions, and an unhappy workforce, which could lead to less production. Happiness will go down during wars and the rape of the environment, so if you want to do those spend 12.5 points on this. This will also count for military morale. You also lose 1% of happiness for every point you spend on military numbers.

Military Population:
One point for military population is 0.25% of your population in your military. Don't spend too much on this, an overly large military will kill your economy and reduce happiness. Every 20 million people you have though, it goes down by 0.005%. Starting from 120 million, things go down by 0.01%, and starting from 220 million, 0.015%. Starting from 320 million, 0.025%. If you suck shit at math, get someone good at math to help you.

For example, a nation of 257 million will only have 0.145% of their population in the military for every point they spend on this, which is 372,650 people. You also lose a percent of happiness for every point spent on here.

Military Tech and Effectiveness:
This goes up to 19, to make sure you can't have a perfect military. Remember that this is related to economy, you can't have a good army with good tech with a shitty economy. This is just a rating. These will be further divided into:
Army (+plus marine corps): 0/7
Navy: 0/7
Air Force: 0/7

Garwall wrote:Final votes on the point system has shown in support of subdividing the economy section into five sub-sections, each out of seven. You can now put a max of 30 points in economy. Basically, the points you put into your economy are now going to be put into these sub-sections, to show the diversity of your economy and where it focuses on. 0=Nonexistant sector, 1=practically nonexistant, 2=fledgling sector, 3=stable section, 4=growing sector, 5=strong sector, 6=cutting-edge sector, 7=world-leading sector.

Nations with high industry/military tech scores and high GDPs will be the one that will get priority in the tech that comes out, as they have the potential to manufacture them and fund their development.

Industrial Capacity (out of 7): Your nation's capacity to produce heavy machinery and mass-produce key items and goods required for warfare.
Agriculture (out of 7): Your nation's ability to produce enough food for its people.
Raw material production (out of 7): Your nation's ability to produce raw materials to feed its industry, or potentially sell to other nations.
Transportation (out of 7): The amount of transportation networks, such as roads, railways, airstrips, and seaports.
Banking/Business Capital (out of 7): The amount of financial Capital is stored in your nation; more capital means less depression and slower financial collapse.

In addition to these changes, I recommend adding two additional slots to the app:

Top 3 exports: What your country exports the most, could be agriculture products, industrial products, or raw resources.
Top 3 imports: see above for imports.

Working on it...just needed to post my claim. P.S. Ignore everything on my map besides the nation around Manchuria
I will finish the last three parts later, just a bit tired and upset right now...
Application:
NS Name: Parhe
RP Nation Name: Fourth State of Jin. More commonly Jin for short. Jin historically went by different names in its original history, primarily as the Qing Dynasty, Zhongguo, Guandongug, and Guanwaigug, when it attempted to reveal itself as one of the Chinese States of the former Ming Dynasty. However, as the Jin had become more influenced by Korean culture than Chinese culture and became decentralized the state cultivated names as Manjugug, Later Parhae, Hangug, and the Union of Northeast Asia. The last five of these are still considered acceptable names for the nation to be called.
Capital City: The national capital is Sanggyeong. Provincial capitals are Chingdao of Jina Yoseo, Xiaojing of Korchinia, Gungnae of Huatai, Yokohoma of Akitsushima, Daban of Seohae Ilbon, Songshan of the Nippon Military Zone, and Ryugyong of Parhae. A Map Of My Nation.
Currency: The Mun

14% English (23,699,670)
4% Spanish (6,771,334)
1% French (1,692,834)
A very multilingual nation, Jin is host to a dozen native languages that are officially recognized by the central government(Manchurian, Korean, Mandarin, Mongolian, Japanese, Aynu, Daur, Xibe, Evenki, Oroqen, Orok, and Nanai), as well as various migrant languages, of which only a handful the government keeps track of. While most of the native languages have been growing beyond its people, Japanese continues its rapid decline in popularity, with over three million speakers residing in the Nippon Military Zone, roughly twelve million in Akitsushima, and approximately another three million spread across the diaspora on mainland Jin. Of the others, Manchurian and Korean especially have surged in use and popularity, having since early on being forced on to conquered people. Fluency in the two languages are now required in receiving citizenship within the nation. German mean while has been widely promoted because of Prussia, from whom the Jin has mainly based its industrialization and westernization. Russian is promoted largely because oft he large part Jin's northern neighbor is perceived to play on domestic and international stages as a threat.
[I already pre-made a list but except by first language I made it by percentage of population fluent in the language. If you really do want me to change it I will.]
Lingua Franca(s): Manchu, Korean, German, and Russian are the most popular languages, with over two thirds of the population fluent in all four languages.

The first seeds of Christianity was introduced into the Jin in 1603 by way of a Korean diplomat returning from a mission to Beijing of the Ming, during which Yi Gwang-jeong became acquainted with a Jesuit missionary. After returning the diplomat started spreading the faith to many of the commoners, primarily of the northern provinces. Though originally greatly persecuted, Christianity and its followers in Joseon were a vital point and gave major support to the Jurchen-Joseon Invasion of the Ming in the 1620's while the Buddhist and Confucius dominated factions of the courts attempted coups against the government for the invasion. First declared the official religion of the Joseon state and later of the dual Joseon-Qing kingdom, Christianity evolved drastically, having no contact with Christians from the western world for over another two centuries, incorporating several aspects of traditional Korean folklore and shamanistic, the traditions and beliefs of which helped the transition to Christianity.Ethnic group breakdown:
Land Claims: The Seafoam like nation in Manchuria. It also extends to over Japan, the Ryukyu, Korea, and parts of China Proper.
Type of Government: Single Faction, Federal monarchy, Weak Constitutional Monarchy With Loose Constitution. The nation is described at times as oppressive, in that, though relatively liberal rights are given to the people, law breaking is harshly punished. Each provinces has its own structure and is ruled by a hereditary monarch though all are subordinate to the central monarch and government. Further down there are mazes of feudal lords and nobles though officially abolished.

Short History of your Nation:
One bullet. One bullet was all it took to radically change the course of American history forever. Of course, it happened to be a particularly important person it was aimed at, but the man who fired it had no idea how it would affect his world, considering he left it several minutes later, gunned down by American soldiers. Unfortunately, the bullet had already hit its target by that time, piercing skin and bone and flesh to pass firmly through the target's brain. To onlookers, the whole side of his face would seem to have erupted in a shower of red, before he toppled from his horse in slow motion, landing with a thud on the dull and beaten earth. The man? General George Washington, on his way to accept the surrender of General Cornwallis at the Siege of Yorktown.

Within minutes, the finest American and British doctors were summoned, and Washington was carried to Cornwallis' tent--but even the finest medical minds of the time would have thrown up their hands in despair at the utter ruin that was Washington's face. Patching it and desperately placing the fragments of bone back into the wound, they ended up slapping a bandage on the whole thing, and shrugging helplessly anytime someone asked the prognosis. "In God's hands," they said. Well, if it were really God who decided the end result, then it was a cruel and capricious God, a downright evil one. You see, Washington survived, but it wasn't really Washington who walked out of that tent a week later. Oh, men swore up and down that he was changed, that he was more than a man. You should've heard them--"Our general took a bullet to the brain, and came back, better than ever!" How hollow those boasts seem, now...

Washington accepted Cornwallis' surrender a few days later, when he was recovered enough to ride a horse again, and went on to see the British entirely out of the American colonies, ensuring the independence of the fledgling United States. Donning the hat of a politician, he attended the Constitutional Conventions of 1787 and 1788, and helped write the founding documents of the first truly democratic country. Elected by a unanimous vote of the electoral college in 1789, he gave his first inaugural speech from the balcony of Federal Hall in New York City, and went on to guide the country to a golden age, a glorious age, an age of American peace and prosperity.

Or at least, that's what the textbooks say. In reality, something changed in Washington's mind. We don't know if it was the bullet, or if it was something else, but the noble public servant of the 1770s was gone, and in its place was something...else. Something not right. Washington became, well, the best term for it nowadays would be something the shrinks call "paranoid schizophrenic". He apparently started seeing plots and treachery behind every wall and around every corner, and acted pretty irrationally for most of his first term. It's rumored that his advisers had to stop him from attacking his own wife for supposedly attempting to poison him with a plate of peas in 1790....Still, it was Washington! The first democratically elected President, the beloved general of the American people, and whatever he wanted, he got. As it happened, he wanted another term. And another after that.

God knows what would have happened if he had lived to see those terms--as it is, he died halfway during his third, from some sort of seizure in the night. The entire nation went into mourning, and John Adams became the second President of the United States. By that time, though, the damage Washington had done was too deeply set in our nation. The poison was buried too deep for Adams to root out, although he did try, bless his soul. That poor sad man spent three years of his life, and nearly all the political capital he had to try and undo the damage Washington had done to the United States.

You see, Washington, in his paranoia, didn't exactly like or get along with the Senate, or the House of Representatives, or the Supreme Court, or....anyone for that matter. And the people he didn't like tended to suffer some unfortunate political aftereffects--namely, the loss of their roles and powers to the Presidency. At the end of Washington's terms, Congress needed to be called by the President, the agendas needed to be approved by the President, and the entire budget, down to the last quill, was scrutizined by the President. The Supreme Court suffered a no less ignomious fate---Washington personally hand-picked every case they heard, and made every session open to the public, exposing the courts to enormous ridicule.

The worst damage, oddly enough, wasn't done through any act of Congress, or the Presidency, but a simple statement of Washington's, uttered at a social event in Philadelphia. A local politician, deeply interested in the newly formed political parties, asked Washington which one he particularly favored, or whether he belonged for one. Washington's response, a simple six words, sent the course for future Presidencies forever. His response? "Why, the Democratic-Republicans, of course!" Such was Washington's popularity that the Democratic-Republicans experienced a massive upsurge in political opinion and clout, a wave that didn't end for three decades.

After Adam's brief stint in the Presidential office, he was followed by a long string of Democratic-Republican Presidents: Jefferson, Madison, Monroe, and John Quincy Adams, who was disowned by his father for abandoning the family tradition of hardcore Federalism. All of them worked pretty much as the textbooks say they did; gradual expansion of Presidential powers, dealing with various issues facing America, etc, etc. The Louisiana purchase went through, and before long, Lewis and Clark were wending their way through the wilds of middle America, paving the way for thousands that would soon push Westward.

For the next three decades, the American people prospered, pushed westward, and pretty much ignored the actions of the man in the head office who changed names every so often. That stopped, of course, in drastic electoral upset in 1837, when Richard Johnson beat Martin van Buren for the Presidency, against all odds, soaring into office on the Virginian and Maryland electoral votes. His Presidency was perhaps the most exciting and eventful in American history.

It began with the forging of the great rings---no, wait, wrong RP. It began with the Upper Canada Rebellion in 1837, where a group of men, led by William Mackenzie, who sought Canadian independence from Great Britain, fled to the United States ater their rebellion failed. Their American backers and supporters had supplied them with a steady stream of equipment and money on the American steamboat SS Caroline, a supply that did not diminish even after their failed rebellion. A group of Canadian loyalists, led by a British Colonel, Sir Allan MacNab, seized the SS Caroline, dragged her across the international boundary line, and set her afire before letting her float across the Niagara Falls.

Needless to say, the newspapers at the time went beserk, with respectable newspapers reporting several dozen dead, while tabloids and pennyrags speculated that over a hundred god-fearing Americans had perished in the icy plunge. National opinion was so violently against the Canadians and their British overlords that President Johnson sent General Winfield Scott to handle and calm the situation. His orders were to prevent any further incidents from happening, and to diffuse the situation overall. He failed utterly.

American patriots slipped across the border retaliated by capturing and burning the Sir Robert Peel in American waters, which was shortly followed by Canadian retaliations at the Battle of the Windmill in 1838. The war hawks in the 26th Congress, led by Robert Hunter, Democratic Speaker of the House, seized the opportunity and pushed a declaration of war through both houses, forcing President Johnson to sign it. America went to war for the first time in almost half a century.

And it did surprisingly well. The British Empire had been weakened for several decades, and was realistically no match for the American forces, as ill-trained and ill-equipped as they were. Defeating the hastily-assembled Canadian forces in several pitched battles around Quebec, Montreal and Ontaria, America quickly forced British forces to their knees throughout Canada, subjugating them brutally and mercilessly. After a year of sporadic fighting, America was left in unquestioned control of Canada, leaving but one question: what to do with it?

Debates raged through the 26th Congress, with almost every viewpoint brought up, but no consensus was reached for several months, and the fate of Canada was left hanging in limbo, until the President stepped in. The war had pushed President Johnson into a second term, and bolstered by his soaring popularity ratings, he dared to propose the unthinkable: annexation. Gradually, the idea grew in popularity with the Democratic-Republicans, but was met with fierce opposition by the Whigs, who felt it would reduce their power base overly much, should such a large population base be amassed so far from their own political base of support.

The Whigs stonewalled the annexation proceedings for another year and a half, until the Democratic Republicans, exasperated, gave into their demands, forming the Republique du Quebec out of the remains of Canada, and annexing the rest. It was at this time that the official name of the United States was proposed, given that the United States had evolved past a simple confederation of states into something bigger, something more powerful and complex.....By a close popular referendum, 57% of the population favored the 'North American Union,' while the remaining 43% favored the old "United States of America". Officially, the nation adopted the former, but the latter remains in wide and extensive use.

With the annexation of the remnants of Canada, and the humiliation of the British Empire, America burst onto the world stage, eager to make a name for itself. Successive war-like Presidencies failed to do much, other than plunging America into a war with Mexico, a war that failed to do much other than solidify the borders in the Treaty of Velasco, after a Mexican army was defeated by determined ranchers in Oklahoma, and an American army wandered into the desert, disappearing entirely. With the death of 2,500 Americans, and precious little to show for it, President Polk was forced to re-sign the Treaty of Velasco in a public ceremony in 1845.

A few years later, President Zachary Taylor attempted a similar situation with the Cascadian Federation, ordering 3,500 men to cross the border and seize 'targets of interest to the [American] people," an unclear objective at best; maddeningly vague at worst. For two years, troops trickled back and forth across the Cascadian border, sacking and looting towns on both sides, until a war-weary population forced the Twenty-seventh Congress to declare a ceasefire. A treaty-signing was scheduled for May 17th, 1850, but despite overt attempts at soothing relations between the two countries, border tensions remain, and both sides consider the territory to be theirs.

President Taylor attempted to solve two social and military problems at once, by forming the US state of Deseret out of the remnants of the Montanan and Idaho territories, forcing it through Congress on the provisional basis that the state would take over the border defenses with the Cascadian Federation. Using up the last of his political capital, the state of Deseret was established, and soon showed one of the largest population increases in American history, as thousands of Mormons flooded the state, establishing towns and cities nearly overnight. The resource rich areas of the Montanan Territory and the rich agricultural plains of the Idahoan Territory combined to make Deseret one of the most aesthetically appealing and productive states in the North American Union. With the flow of resources back towards the east, a near-Transcontinental Railroad was begun, and population centers throughout the Midwest began to spring up and thrive.

In 1850, President Taylor died under unexpected circumstances, leading to suspicions that he had been poisoned due to his conflict with his wife's views on slavery, as well as his history of alcoholic binges. After his death, Vice President William King became President, and was inaugurated in time to preside over President Taylor's funeral. Shortly after the state funeral, President King greeted the arrival of the exiled College of Cardinals, granting them political asylum and temporary diplomatic immunity. In 1851, the College of Cardinals decided to establish a Conclave, electing Cardinal Mario Mattei as Pope Pius XII, the first American-based Pope. In honor of the election, President King granted all the Cardinals citizenship, and set aside public land for the establishment of a Papal residence and bureaucracy, immediately outside of Chicago.

The American Vatican, as it soon became known as, won great repute for successfully mediating between the Democratic Party and the Whig-Republican Party on several key issues, as well as serving as a pacifying agency in problematic areas throughout the North American Union. In exchange for their services, they were granted tax-exempt status, and allowed to reform the Vatican on American soil. The sight of the flag of the Holy See flying outside of Chicago soon became a common sight, and was met with great applause and approval by American Catholics. However, there was an ulterior motive to this move by the Democratic Party, as it served as a reminder to the Vatican of the power of the North American Union. In an unofficial backrooms deal, the Vatican was allowed national sovereignty once more, in exchange for turning a blind eye towards the American treatment of various undesirables.

It was at this time that the social and political demographics of the North American Union began to change. Southern conservatives, uniting under the Democratic Party, began to push for southern rights and priorities, gaining enough power to redirect the attention of Congress--even going so far as to capture the Presidency several times during the 1860s and 1870s. It was after President Jackson's second term that the Whig-Republicans finally realized what the rest of us had known for so long--that their party was dying, along with the causes that had made it so powerful.

Mustering up the last of their political capital, the Whig-Republicans managed to seize control of 3/4ths of the state legislatures for seven glorious years, along with the Presidency and both Houses of Congress. For seven years, the Whig-Republicans ruled unquestioned, and they seized the chance to push through every act and reform they could muster. Women got the right to vote in 1884, while African-Americans gained their freedom in a tense vote in 1886. A constitutional amendment guaranteeing extensive political and civil freedoms was being considered, but was discarded as the Democratic Party dealt the Republican-Whig Party a resounding defeat in the 1888 elections, taking back control of the states and Presidency. The Republican-Whig party was defeated, and in defeat, lost so much power that it never really recovered as a political party. Staggering on for a few more years, the Republican-Whigs managed to block Democratic-pushed reforms aimed at reducing African-American rights.

This circle of political sparring and fighting continued for many election cycles, until the Democratic Party managed to muster enough votes to push through a vote on the purchasing of Cuba from Spain, paying roughly $100 million dollars, based on the recommendations of the Ostend Manifesto. The cash-strapped Hispanians were forced to accept, and Cuba passed to American hands in 1895, where it was promptly annexed and absorbed as an American state.

With the arrival of the 20th century, the American political structure was radicially different than it had been a century ago. Several political parties had risen and fallen; multiple US Presidents had been assassinated over political issues; the US had welcomed several new states into the fold; women and Africans had the right to vote. However, at the dawn of the 20th century, the Democratic party was weak and crippled from the drawn-out political fights of the late 19th century. The end of the Democrats was nigh---the only question was: who would replace them? The fate of the African-American population rested on that answer.

For the early 1900s, there was no clear answer to this, as minor political parties began to war over the fallen corpse of the Republican-Whig bastion, and nibbled at the crumbling remnants of the Democratic Party. Still, as weakened as they were, the Democrats won every election practically by default, since no other party could muster a majority strong enough to challenge their chokehold on American politics. No party that is, until 1913, when a small political party attracted the attention of a very special person.

In the streets of New York City, disaffected Democrats and Whig members gathered to listen to a man speak. He spoke slowly, but charismatically, his short frame filled with energy as he spoke from the top of his soapbox. Although one might take him for an ordinary crackpot, the sheer size of the crowd drew one in closer, until you got a closer look at the man's face--and you gasped in recognition. It was the face that beamed from every Broadway poster, the face that dominated moving pictures in the 1910s, the face that every American could recognize in a heartbeat. That man, the man before them, was none other than Charlie Chaplin, and he was running for President of the United States.

Running on the platform of the newly minted American Progressive Party, Chaplin relied on his expansive media presence and extraordinary popularity to garner political and social attention, both to himself and his party, and it worked. While Chaplin was defeated in the 1916 Presidential election, he gathered nearly 46% of the popular vote, and the American Progressive Party seized control of the House of Representatives. Rebuilding and recampaigning, they hit the Democratic Party hard for four years, driving the popularity rating of President Cox into the single-digits, emphasizing the economy, employment, and a multitude of other issues.

In the 1920 election, the American Progressive Party seized the chance, and went all out--reaping the benefit. Charlie Chaplin became the 30th President of the United States, with Leonard Wood as the Vice President, while the American Progressive Party secured majorities in the Senate and a number of state legislatures. The time of the Democratic Party was over. The time of the Progressive Party has come.

Short Description of your nation: See above answer.

  • General population's view on gay rights/gay people: Homosexual acts are forbidden, and viewed with great suspicion/mistrust.
  • General population's view on religions other than the primary one: Judaism and Christianity are fine. Everything else, suspicion and mistrust.
  • General population's view on atheism: Horror and mistrust.
  • General population's view on abortion: Absolutely forbidden.
  • View on other races/ethnic groups other than the primary one(s): African-Americans and non-whites are viewed with great mistrust, suspicion, and outright hatred. Racism is alive and well.
  • Status of religion in politics: Pretty much essential. Doesn't matter whether Christian or Jewish, but you have to make a show out of being religious, or people accuse you of being atheistic/Islamic.
  • Any big prejudices in your nation (widespread discrimination against a particular group, linguistic conflict, etc): Racism, for the most part.
  • View on immigration into country: If you're a white Christian/Jewish person, it's a breeze to get through to America. Everyone else has to jump through hoops until they satisfy the requirements, which are unlisted and change depending on how the immigration officials feel.
  • View on emigration out of country (Also, how many people emigrate per year?): America is like Hotel California. You can check-out, but you can never leave. Emigration is discouraged, and extremely difficult due to the sheer levels of bureaucracy one has to go through.
  • Women's Rights: Perfectly acceptable; women have the right to vote and whatnot, and have since the late 1800s.
  • Views on tobacco/alcohol/pot/other drugs: Immoral influences on the population, but most people are of the opinion that nothing's wrong with a good smoke or drink at the end of the day. Harder drugs are strictly frowned upon and forbidden, however.
  • Top 3 exports: Machinery, various agricultural products (breadbasket), iron/steel
  • Top 3 imports: Mexican products, oil, rubber

Short History of your Nation: Italy, which was a vassal state of the Napoleonic France, was spared dismemberment at the Congress of Vienna in 1815. Eager to restore the monarchy, and since nobody really had the capability of taking the throne, the British King became formal King of Italy, thus placing Italy under a personal union. Over the next 33 years, Italy would be entrusted with many British territories, such as Malta, the Ionians and became a heavy industrial center for the Royal Navy, to mitigate French and Turkish control of the oceans. In 1848, "The Revolution" began. Tired of being governed by a British Duke, the people of Italy deposed him and the Pope, and took over. The Republic of Italy was declared, and the Vatican was converted into the Italian Assembly. The Revolution immediately sparked a war with Austria, who, not keen to see another Napoleonic France, attacked the Italians in Mantua. The Italians quickly struck back, and Austria, suffering from revolts of her own, were beaten back. After four years of war, in 1852, the Treaty of Vienna was signed, granting Italy large tracts of land in Austria and the Ottoman Empire (who joined the war, mostly just Albania).

Through the 1860's, 1870's and early 1880's, the Italians colonized Libya (which they seized from the Turks in 1852), Tunisia (having bought the rights from France, who needed the money), and then the Suez Canal deal popped up, and France offered to the Italians to buy his shares in the Egyptians. Accepting, Italy became a major player in Egypt, fighting Britain for influence. By 1885, Britain, due to other issues abroad, such as dealing with rising enemies every-where else, agreed to sell the rest of the country to Italy for a hefty sum. At the same time, Italy was using her right of the Suez Canal to colonize Greater Somalia.

The early 20th century was a time of good prosperity for the Italian people, as the economy flourished and democracy proved well. Extremist parties were kept at bay... until the 1916 elections, where Benito Mussolini, poster boy of the Italian Socialist Party, was elected to power as President, with Giuseppe Manazini elected as Prime Minister.

the 1920's are a time of change for Italy. For better... or worse.

Short Description of your nation: A liberal young Republic.

General population's view on gay rights/gay people: Tolerated, mostly because the Church hates it.
General population's view on religions other than the primary one: We love all religions.
General population's view on atheism: Atheism is acceptable, since our state policy is agnostic.
General population's view on abortion: As long as it's in cases of incest and rape. Otherwise, no.
View on other races/ethnic groups other than the primary one(s): Italians are awesome, Arabs are dirty, only good to live... in Africa.
Status of religion in politics: Banned.
Any big prejudices in your nation (widespread discrimination against a particular group, linguistic conflict, etc): Arabs are not allowed to migrate outside of Africa, unless the Italian government gives approval (educational reasons, there is a need for cheap labour)
View on immigration into country: Good, as long as you learn Italian.
View on emigration out of country (Also, how many people emigrate per year?): Mostly Arabs who aren't happy with being colonized and forbidden from migrating to Italy. about 500 per year.

RP example (For nations exceeding 100 million people): YOU KNOW ME!

I'll fill in the rest later. This is just a draft <3

Arumdaum claimed Prussia/Germany, Kam claimed modern Mexico with the Texas Republic and Mexican Cession, Timuristan claimed Russia with Alaska, Dolm claimed the southern most yellow China from my map aboce in my app, and I just realized where has Bering gone recently?

Though I am not sure what happens with the claim of Arumdaum since you posted first.

Short History of your Nation: The Levant has long been a hotspot of international tension, dating from as early as the Crusades. In the year 1507, as the Ottoman Empire fought its way to eastern supremacy, the Pope sanctioned a final crusade to retake the Holy Land; Spearheaded by the Knights Hospitaller, who had regained their strength, leading donated, volunteer armies from across Europe, the Last Crusade ended with a victory in the Levant, halting Ottoman expansion south and creating a new, Christian state there, ruling from Syria to the Sinai.

Under the tolerant rule of the Hospitaller, Christianity seeped into the region while maintaining the local faith. The nation, then known The Sovereign Military and Hospitaller Order of St. John of Jerusalem, called of Rhodes, called of Cyprus, began to flourish, with trade in the region at an all-time high and the culture of the nation reaching new heights, it was hailed by the Christian nations of the world once as the pinnacle of modernism and enlightened rule.

During its revolution against the Turkish occupiers, the Byzantines were funneled money and weapons from the Hospitaller crusading state, in exchange for promises of future cooperation and friendship. To this day, even after a change in regime, that friendship lasts and a stable relationship exists between the neighboring nations.

It wasn't until the mid eighteenth century that the Sovereign Military Order began to falter; A radical sect of the Hospitaller, largely made up of the absorbed Templars and other such radical groups, came to power in a largely bloodless coup, and began to enforce Christianity upon the region. As war with the neighboring Muslim powers loomed, the more tolerant factions in the Order, along with many secularists and centrist Islamists, organized a revolution in favor of a republican form of government. The war promised to be bloody, as the ruling Order pulled all stops to halt the change of the guard.

After two years of civil war, the republican faction won out, and in the place of the short-lived theocratic regime a secular republic was formed. The Sovereign and Independent Republic of the Levant, or La République Souveraine et Indépendante du Levant, has ruled since 1767, and has kept the peace in the Levant as a secular alternative to the former Christian and Muslim-dominated states. With both former Hospitallers and several Arabs in the government, the state has avoided international consequences for swinging either way, and maintains to this day peaceful relations with both religious powers.

Short Description of your nation: The Sovereign and Independent Republic of the Levant is a largely tolerant, do-as-you-please state. The Constitution of the Levant enforces the rights of its citizens, from the right to bodily sovereignty to the right to vote. It is expected that, by the turn of the century, the SIRL will have an amendment for every known right.

Despite this, there is tension, both domestic and foreign. The large amount of tolerance, diversity and a high civil rights history has put some more radically conservative nations on edge, irreversibly damaging relations. Also, religious tension, though blunted by very strong religious freedom legislation, constantly threatens to tear the nation apart. The republican nature of the nation also brings about factionalization, with the three major parties, the ruling Parliamentarian-Republicans, United Levantines, and the People's Movement all vying for control.

The economy of the nation is largely based around trade, with production of finished goods kept relatively high while maintaining natural resources trade. With the discovery of petroleum in northwestern Syria, mining of such has started, though it is unknown as to how much will be found.

The military is small, but well maintained, powerful enough to defend the largely peaceful republic. The people are largely happy, minus the discontent regarding the aforementioned tension.

RP example: Haha no.

General population's view on gay rights/gay people: Largely tolerant, though the rights haven't caught up quite yet. At the moment, sodomy and homosexuality has been decriminalized, though to marry is still illegal, and being open is largely frowned upon.

General population's view on religions other than the primary one: Highly tolerant, considering the nation's history, but still the occasional flare occurs.

General population's view on atheism: Tolerant, and the atheist community is growing larger every year by a quarter percent or so.

General population's view on abortion: Abortion is a hot issue, but currently decriminalized but not enamored as a right as of yet. The swing is currently in favor of abortion rights, and is expected to be fully legalized within the next few decades.

View on other races/ethnic groups other than the primary one(s): Generally tolerant. Few racial prejudices exist.

Status of religion in politics: Generally frowned upon but present, with religious parties playing a key role in the local elections, though rarely the national ones. The Alliance of Islam holds a few seats in the national legislature, but its Christian analogue, Christ's People, has only one of the elected Supreme Court judges as its representative.

Any big prejudices in your nation: Against theocracy. But tolerance still reigns supreme.

View on immigration into country: Immigrants from the Arab and European world are largely accepted readily, but others tend to be greeted somewhat coldly, though rarely harshly.

View on emigration out of country: Emigration is allowed, but is less than easy to achieve. As such, few leave, but the process is readily available.

Women's Rights: Generally accepted, but still a bit behind the curve. The non-Arab population is swiftly advancing, but as a whole the nation is kept down by the Arabic traditions.

Views on tobacco/alcohol/pot/other drugs: No one really gives a shit. People do what they do. Muslims have since changed their beliefs, somewhat, to only caring what Muslims do. Imagine that.

Short History of your Nation: The Cascadian Federation was founded originally by rogue Anglo-Saxon traders who stumbled upon the new land quite by accident and established a settlement on Vancouver Island some time before any European explorers “officially” made claims on the continent. When European commoners learned of the new free state growing on the west coast of the new continent (mainly English peasants), they flocked to ports and made for the new settlement of Gracemeria. After the first century of colonization by European immigrants, word had begun to spread to Asia of this new land and immigrants from the Jin and the other Chinese regions began to pour in. The settlement grew and flourished for a centuries and eventually expanded beyond the original settlement north and south along the Pacific Coast. A federal government was eventually formed to unify the towns and cities that had sprung up along the western seaboard, calling itself the Cascadian Federation.

The Federation would sadly live in peace for only a short while. The Americans had begun expanding west at an alarming rate, but this did not merit much attention to the Cascadian government, to their detriment. The American colonization of the west led them right to Cascadia's doorstep. Tensions rose quickly, mainly due to a lack of real communication between the Americans and the Cascadians. Key mountain passes were barricaded and a stale-mate ensued after the first American incursion. After several bloody attempts by both sides to take ground, a ceasefire was agreed upon. Despite the ceasefire, tensions remain high and the mountain-passes are continually patrolled and defences are maintained to the highest degree.

Short Description of your nation: Has always been a naval-focused nation with an economy reliant on the ocean’s vast natural resources as well as the resources found in the mountain ranges. The fishing and mining industries are booming, and an economically and environmentally-minded government regulates the fishing industry to a point of sustainability. A pacifist attitude has prevailed for quite some time, however the navy is well-funded and not to be trifled with.
RP example (For nations exceeding 100 million people): The most successful RP i've been in. viewtopic.php?f=5&t=211986

Culture
General population's view on gay rights/gay people: Not good, many Christians in the nation are unsettled by the idea, however a few religious leaders have begun lobbying against discrimination against gay people simply because they are human-beings and it is unbiblical to discriminate (they should have normal human rights like everyone else). The gay population is incredibly low though.
General population's view on religions other than the primary one: They are respected, but some fanatics have openly protested against them. This action has been frowned upon by church officials and discouraged.
General population's view on atheism: Atheists are sometimes discriminated against by a radical minority, however the main body of the religious population ignore them so long as they remain peaceful and unprovocative.
General population's view on abortion: Unacceptable to most people except unless the mother's life is in danger.
View on other races/ethnic groups other than the primary one(s): A declining majority are suspicious of other races and racism has been prevalent over the centuries, however the churches have led a growing movement against racism.
Status of religion in politics: Church and state are technically separate, however the majority of the politicians are Christian and many decisions are made based on Christian values.
Any big prejudices in your nation (widespread discrimination against a particular group, linguistic conflict, etc): The elimination of discrimination has been a primary focus over the past decade by both the state and the churches. Progress has been made, however Muslims are still heavily discriminated against as well as gay people. Honest effort is being put forward to stop this.
View on immigration into country: Immigration has always been essential to growth, however the increasing number of muslim immigrants trying to institute the laws and traditions of their homeland has forced the government to tighten restrictions on who is allowed in. At the moment european immigrants are favoured over middle-eastern.
View on emigration out of country (Also, how many people emigrate per year?): Emigration is not uncommon. Anywhere from 100-500 people emigrate per year, altho the emigration rate is lower than the immigration rate.

No. I claimed Italy and Dalmatia and Albania, Greater Savoy, Libya, Tunisia, Egypt-Sudan and Eritrea and Somalia (with british and French colonies too)

Well, no one thought to state the claims you made on a random chat server 2 weeks ago. How should I know?

She has been claiming it for the past two weeks now including yesterday. Plus she at least has most her app up.

To the other guy, northern California and Nevada is claimed by Kam, though he might not join I guess, and Garwall claimed Alaska. Both these I mentioned earlier sice yesterday night Nightkill mentioned we should state the claims of other people on Chat so that their claims wouldn't be taken.

Back from downtown. Will settle this conflict after a brief nap because my sleep schedule is bizarre.

In my own personal opinion, nothing is official until posted in this thread, so I do rather lean toward Ker in this. But I'll make an official decision in a bit.

Short History of your Nation: The Zheng clan of merchants have always been notoriously successful in all of their ventures, whether it be pirating, honest trade, capturing Taiwan from the Dutch, and forging a new empire out of the dead ashes of the Ming dynasty, or perhaps all of them at once. They are the major player in establishing the nation, and many are revered as outright gods in the modern Empire of the Liang.

The story begins, with a few other historical modifications such as knowledge of the treasure fleet never being burned, during the collapse of the Ming dynasty and the capture of Taiwan by Koxinga, who was a staunch Ming loyalist even as the Ming withered, collapsed, and even tried to become Christian just to get foreign support. From his base in Taiwan, he captured the Philipines and began to build his resources and forge ties with the mainland loyalists in the South, who were under continuous attack from the two forces of the newly established Obedience dynasty to the North (Shun dynasty) and the rival military forces situated in Sichuan and Yunan.

Building up a sizable navel force with his resources in Taiwan and mustering up a massive army, he aided the continually ailing Ming Empire on the mainland while denying trade to the other nations (most Europeans were content to trade with his empire anyways), and slowly got a foothold on the mainland, along the way taking some Dutch colonies and getting Malacca to become a vassal. The real turnaround was during his navel battle for the Nanjing area, where from looting the libraries, he recovered full knowledge of the early Ming monsters of the Treasure Fleet and volumes of other, very vital knowledge.

However, over time, he had grown disillusioned with the Ming monarchy he was propping up, and so too did the rest of his family. Why was it that he was supporting a weak, not too popular and ailing group to remain on power? Perhaps it was time that a merchant clan assumed command of China, and so he began to plot. He began to plot for a method to overthrow the remains of the Ming and install his own family as the royal family of all of China...

He died of natural causes one day before he could enact his plan to overthrow the Ming himself and reunify China, before he could instal his own, very popular family into power. However, his sentiments were not forgotten, for his son found a different method to solve the crisis. His son had caught the eye of a lovely Ming princess, namely the daughter of the current emperor, and so too did he love her. He figured out a way to use this to his advantage, for it'd unify the families and, with sufficient threats and jostling, allow him to pressure the Zhu clan into abdicating the throne.

By now, China was growing war-weary with the decade or so of rather continuous war, and when he forced the Ming emperor to abdicate the throne, he made a stunning order from the beginning of his new Liang dynasty that would forever shock the people within China. He declared that he would not seek to unify China, and invited the various emperors to be and the warlords to a small frontier town to discuss the carving up of the Chinese empire for good. Suspicion was rampant, and he knew himself that his purpose was not to divide China but to provide an era of peace of which he was certain that his region would develop the fastest, thus allowing him to later conquer the rest of China.

The others were very unconvinced, but with sufficient rhetoric, he had managed to being peace to all under heaven. The Liang would have southern China, Taiwan and the Philipines, as the map was redrawn, and others received their pieces as China began to prosper once more. He utilized trade with the Europeans, often using his own ships to get to Europe to trade, to kickstart his new nation's economy, as western knowledge flowed east and old books were mined. However, no one quite could grow sufficiently larger then the other, and so none risked war with each other.

All instead spent their time waging wars and diplomacy of expansionism and projecting their sphere of influence in order to defeat their rivals, with the Shun gaining Xinjiang and occasionally putting the Mongols to their place, the empire situated in Nanjing building up navel might, the empire situated in Yunan and Sichuan attempting to invade into Burma, and the Liang bringing Malacca, some former Dutch colonies, and Vietnam under their direct fold, while courting a rising and deliberately engineered second Khmer empire in South East Asia in order to combat the Sichuan influence.

This all changed in the later 1700s, when a old Song dynasty text was mined that promised new and revolutionary (Well, old and buried by the Mongols) methods such as paper money, coal usage, hydro-power and automation which would allow them to outcompete their rivals, and the ideas were presented to the government at once. However, they were slow to adapt as internal politics continually threatened to collapse upon itself during the rough transition to a democratic-meritocracy, and it took under the 1820s for it to take full effect across the now semi-democratic largely meritocratic nation (which was influenced by legalist, confucian and western texts).

This gap, unfortunately, drove many of the proponents to present themselves to the court and halls of other Chinese governments in China, and by the 1850s, they were by no means the sole power. Rather, if they didn't industrialize and reform, they'd simply loose, and while the situation grew volitile with wars being fought all over the place across the century, leading to the modern world in China as it is today. Knowledge transfers from the Europeans and from other Chinese nations and their highly inventive populace further spurred technological growth in China- in total they'd be considered on par with Europe.

Multiple wars were fought across the century, spurring advance and keeping each nation in check with each other as the world changed before their eyes, as new technologies revolutionized aspects of life. East Asia would become very outward looking, and as East Asia marches into the 20th century, how might things change?

Short Description of your nation: The Liang empire is a diverse empire with many differing cultures, religions and ethnicities, but fiercely united at the same time. One can see Islamic mosques beside Buddhist temples in harmony, as mixed families become the norm and divergence from the mainland Chinese cultures is taking place. Despite this, the script is still standard most of the time, although that can not be said about grammar at times. Traditional clothing is the norm, not the exception, in this nation as Hanfu and other forms of clothing dominate over the western forms of clothing. Red and gold silk clothes with elaborate headdresses are the norm for formal occasions, with western style suits being viewed as strange. This also has the effect of nurturing a domestic textiles industry.

Communication is facilitated by writing, which has made literacy a top-notch issue with the government. In fact, public education is strongly invested in and streamlined, "For how can one demonstrate their merits if they start on terrible ground?" Much of everything else is often a cutthroat capitalistic world, dominated by family business clans which, despite public education, continue to go on absorbing each generation (although they tend to expand into fields where the next generation wishes to go).

Public education has also led to a golden age of thought, as new schools of thought such as Neo-Mohism (named after the Mohism of the Warring States period) come to be. All have meritocracy as one of their ideals, but how to run it and everything else is what they debate on. Scientific advancement in the nation is rapid, and overall, knowledge is held high (along with high results on the tests, of course). Civil Examinations is the only way to get into the executive government (although which branch depends on which test).

The nation is rich and industrialized, and pride runs deep within the citizens of the nation. Despite this, it is a high-stress world and smoking is in major fashion in the nation for both looks and dampening stress. Once in a while, people snap and things get ugly. Massive extended families tend to live together in one huge building complex (In the traditional Chinese home style with a courtyard in the middle, and often many floors), but with the exploding population occurring, many families are being encouraged to further extend their family or live with another in even more massive, sky scraper-like homes that defy the traditional Chinese architectural thought that wide is better then tall.

The family unit is the basis of which law and society is organized, and when dealing with criminals, they mean dealing with their family as a unit. Money is pooled in a family, and they often try to create the most massive family unit possible. This has the side effect of more local family politics, which is ripe for a lot of Asian drama...

RP example (For nations exceeding 100 million people):
viewtopic.php?f=5&t=205396
viewtopic.php?f=31&t=207809

General population's view on gay rights/gay people: The general view towards gays and the like is of contempt and dislike, but other then passive hatred, there is nothing much going on about it, and it is observed that secretly at times, it is done by even the most prominant peoples, although they are most certainly not gay...

General population's view on religions other than the primary one: Very, very tolerant, as religious tensions are practically unknown in the East, and while one government may secretly promote one over the other, in general tolerance is the norm, not the exception.

General population's view on atheism: The general view on atheism within the Liang is one of somewhat hostile neutrality, but most simply don't care about it.

General population's view on abortion: Abortion is currently seen as exceptionally wrong, and even if it wasn't banned, most people would simply despise the woman who got an abortion, if they knew she did. Knowing the issue with the situation, the central government often has orphanages for abandoned children, and said children are often trained to serve the state...

View on other races/ethnic groups other than the primary one(s): Exceptionally tolerant of other ethnicities co-existing, the Liang still hold, however, a general policy of mixing ethnicities for all to become Han Chinese, and governmental policies encourage this.

Status of religion in politics:

Any big prejudices in your nation (widespread discrimination against a particular group, linguistic conflict, etc):
View on immigration into country:
View on emigration out of country (Also, how many people emigrate per year?):

I've been lurking P2TMV recently, and since apparently we're all supposed to worship Nightkill, I thought I'd join.
You might want to redo the points system. Spain is now hilariously OP.

Thought I'd take Macau to give me some relevance in the East Asian theater, either by settling it from start in 17th century, stealing it from Portugal militarily in the 18th, or from China in the 19th from an unequal treaty or very early 20th in a Boxer Rebellion equivalent reprisal.

Also looking at Ceylon maybe?

Full history writeup is dependent on what other people do, and since I don't have enough time right now to do it right, I'll get at it this evening.

Short History of your Nation:

Spain in the 16th and 17th centuries was Spain at her finest: she controlled portions of Italy, vast swathes of the Americas, and had recently expanded into Morocco. Spain, at the height of her power, even assisted the local Kandy Kingdom in pushing Portugal off the island of Ceylon in 1658, pocketing the Portuguese portions of the island as a result. However, Spain by the nineteenth century was a Spain torn asunder: the Latin American colonies had revolted, Italy had been given to first the Austrians, and then ended up in Napoleonic hands. Spain, broke and militarily defeated on almost every front, was left with few colonies to her name. The Spanish army was helpless to stop an invading Napoleon, and only a combined effort from the entirety of the Spanish and Portuguese populaces pushed the French out of Iberia. However, the nation refused to be entirely broken by the loss of the American colonies: Spain still had firm control over Morocco and Ceylon, and recent expeditions to Australia, a continent relatively untouched at the time by European hands, had proven that establishing colonies on the southwest side of the island would be a profitable idea. Spain remained a nation with a grand history and a reasonable potential, but a string of incompetent leaders failed to bring about a second Spanish golden age. Not even the colonization of southeastern Australia could resurrect the Spanish grandeur, and the colony remained as modest as the rest of the nation.

Spain, beaten about by time and slowly bleeding the last few colonial possessions to the European and even Chinese powers hovering like vultures over the not-yet-dead body of Iberia, was shocked by the modernization brought about by the First Spanish Republic in 1873. However, the Republican experiment was short lived, and Spain again returned to a backwards monarchy under Alfonso XII and Alfonso XIII. The Spanish Monarchy, again broke and unable to sustain itself, was forced to sell Cuba to its American allies in 1895. By 1898, the Spanish people had enough of being chained to the inept monarchy and, following yet another defeat and yet another colonial possession taken away, Camilo de Polavieja staged a coup d'etat and established the Second Spanish Republic. The newborn Republic quickly instituted a series of democratic and economic reforms, bringing two centuries of development to the Spanish people in a matter of years.

The effects were quickly recognizable. The Spanish economy nearly doubled in size, and Spain quickly made up for lost time, switching from the plodding industrialization under the Bourbon Restoration to a lightning pace of factories and roads and stock markets. Of course, Spain was still in many ways bound by centuries of inept leaders, and a combination of droughts, archaic laws, and global economic slowing led to the crash of 1907. The Spanish economy, momentarily derailed, resumed its course by 1909, and was soon back to pre-crash levels of efficiency. The Second Spanish Republic, under the firm guiding hand of a conservative coalition backed by the still-powerful Catholic Church, began to test the global water in the 'teens. Trade agreements were established with the Levantine Republic, seen as a moderate, safe Christian ally in an increasingly theocratic and unstable Middle East. Relations with Italy had been chilled for a great time now, since the overthrow of the Pope and the enforced de-Catholicization of the country, and Spain still harbored bitter resentment towards the Mediterranean nation. The theocracy in America, and the associated Republic in Quebec, were quickly recognized as Catholic allies, and Spanish leaders cherish the relationship between the Second Republic and the powerful, growing Americas.

Spain is a country with great potential, and one stuck at a crossroads. A series of smart negotiations, able leaders, and continuing economic growth could very well lead to a strong Republican Spain with influence in South Asia, Oceania, the Middle East, North Africa and, of course, the Mediterranean. However, the path is indeed treacherous, and it is just as (if not more likely) that a leader as inept as the monarchs, or a second economic slowing could permanently stop the growth of Spain yet again, leaving it mired in archaic laws and backwards culture for another era of history.

Short Description of your nation:

Spain could best be described as a nation resurgent. The Spanish Armed Forces, including the Infantería de Marina, the oldest marine corp in the world, fight with a renewed strength. While certainly not the dominant force that it was in previous centuries, it is quite possible that a downsizing of the Iberian nation was for the best: a smaller, more efficient Spain has emerged from the turn of the century, prepared to face the challenges of a new era in politics, instead of clinging to the successes of the past. The Spanish economy has been similarly reforged, and the ruling center-right coalition has maintained strict free market policies, much to the benefit of the general benefit of the economy, despite the occasional hiccup, a la the crash of 1907. However, with the decreasing power of the Catholic church, and economic growth beginning to slow, a turn to left is predicted to eventually occur within the next decade.

Spain has maintained a (much smaller) presence abroad, although not in quite the same areas as the Spain of the eighteenth century. Spanish Ceilán, won from the Portuguese in 1658, is a major player in the Spanish economy. Rubber and tea plantations have greatly increased the value of the island colony, and Spain has become increasingly protective of the island. Spanish Australia, settled after the loss of the colonies in Latin America, is much less a "cash crop" economy. Mining, farming, and fishing dominant the local economy, and the Australian colonies after not perceived as ends as much as they are means towards domination of the Australian continent, similar to domination of the American continent. There is a strong opposition, however, to this idea of colonizing another continent, as Spaniards recently finished with the last vestiges of Spanish imperialism in Latin America are hesitant to invest in another costly expedition. Furthermore, concerns have been raised as to the ability of Spain to maintain a colony so far away, with trade routes crossing through the seas uncomfortably close to the Chinese powers.

Culture:

General population's view on gay rights/gay people: We're Catholics, so we can't overtly support them. Increasing liberalization means that we're not quite sure if they're going straight to Hell, but we're not quite at the point of accepting them yet.
General population's view on religions other than the primary one: Convert the nonbelievers, or they'll go to hell! We just need to help people see the right way of thinking: the Catholic way!
General population's view on atheism: Views certainly easing as Republicans come into power.
General population's view on abortion: Satan, did you say? This is a hurdle that will not be jumped for some time.
View on other races/ethnic groups other than the primary one(s): White Man's Burden.
Status of religion in politics: Influence of Catholic church slowly being reduced, although it's still powerful.
Any big prejudices in your nation: We're still mad about the Latins revolting, although we're coming to term with that, and in general just bitter about being reduced from global superpower to second rate country. The Muslims (and to a lesser extent, the Jews) are still somewhat unwelcome.
View on immigration into country: Not exactly the most common occurrence, but Europeans attempting to escape other, either more liberal or more conservative, regimes are certainly welcome.
View on emigration out of country: Still in many ways a colonial society, so a strong force of emigration. Lots to Latin America, North America.

Most of us would be under the system :) Although my only fear is that economics wasn't that strong IRL in 1920... It's just the value that's through the roof.

I'd prefer that you don't take Macau, for it seems to conflict with my history, although it could be all part of the grand plan to play Europeans against each over and in the end, kick out any colonial presence... You'd probably have to use the 17th century one though, for the other two have been butterflied away between Parhe and I.

I think I'll get an app up for Chinese Peru, probably won't be too active but I've always wanted to play as Fusang...

In other words I shall reserve this, I am the orange.

I feel worse for the natives. Seeing a bunch of ass-naked Russians running around on the beach, drunk on more Vodka than a normal man sees in an entire lifetime.

I mulled it over.

You may have made a claim in the IRC, but unless stated here it is unofficial and someone else can grab it.

So I'll just quickly reserve South Africa and follow my own rule. :p

Tiami is cool.

Swith: It's because you're so awesome. God himself refreshes the screen before he types just to see if Nightkill has written anything while he was off somewhere else.

So who gets Italy?
Ask not what your country can do for you, but what you can do for your country.

Whoever first requested it in this thread.

I'm sorry if people are pissed by their plans going to waste, but I can't reserve land that was chosen in an IRC.

Not sure Fusang will be possible in this because of history. Though you could always be my former colony ;)

Also Nightkill that was the reason why I posted the claims of other people since you told me to to prevent others from claiming.
Hey, it is Parhe :D I am always open to telegrams.
I know it is a Work-In-Progress, but I would love it if y'all looked at my new factbook and gave me some feedback!

I requested for them except for Uni because I was late.
