I had typed up something about the meaning of life.

Then I realised it had a lot of religious stuff in it and I have no intent on starting a religious debate in a thread about saying "Fuck off" to the gods.

There's a small little thing with a postive charge and another smaller thing with a negative charge. The negative orbits around the positive and then another positive with another negative takes the first one's negative. And then it goes from hydrogen and hydrogen to a hydrogen ion and helium. And then it goes and goes and goes, all around the universe, combining into so many different things, building and building. Gases mix and make solids, exploding into new substances, building and building. Elements, monomers, polymers, lipids, cells... on and on, on and on, just building, building, building. They build stars, stars build planets, water falls on the planet, amino acids form, become proteins, proteins build and build, cells are created, life! Life, built from polymers, monomers, compounds, elements, positive bits, negative bits, all combining in a random order to shit out a sentient being that can look back at it all and figure it all out. Someone to gawk at it all.

I'm not seeing the logical followthrough here. This doesn't make life "wonderful", it simply makes it "better than nothing".

Life, in a nutshell, is mostly bland, stale, and shallow, filled with shallow, pathetic, unintelligent and indifferent people (including myself), goals, motivations, and ideas, with tinges of happiness and occasional stretches of misery. And if you're lucky, more tinges of happiness. If you're unlucky, less tinges of happiness.

And that's it. There's nothing more, there's nothing less.
