Hello Neonate,
If you are reading this letter then you have surely been embraced. You are now one of us, you are Kindred. Your kind call us vampires, demons, fiends, and monsters. You will meet many Kindred in these nights of your new life. Do your Sire proud and prove that their choice to embrace you was not a mistake childe. And remember that no matter where you go it is the Blood of Caine that guides you.

Detective Kurt Walsh
New York Police Department
Homicide Division

Kurt sat at his desk in the Homicide Area of his precinct. The former Marine wore a blue dress shirt, black dress pants, black dress shoes, a black tie, a brown leather shoulder holster, a black belt, and his badge on his belt. He sat around, working on daily reports and whatnot, bored out of his mind. He took a sip of his coffee as he read over his emails, which were all the same thing. Advertisements, notices, and other things flooded his inbox. Back when he was in Patrol and SWAT, he didn't have to deal with boring shit like this. Back there, he was doing things. Even in Vice, he was busting prostitution rings and arresting drug dealers. Now, he was in Homicide, reading through the same old boring emails.

Johann Von Helmsburgh
Central Park, New York

Johann sat there, on his favorite bench, transfixed by the moon, as usual. On a branch sat a small Blue Jay, watching Johann. It was the chirps of this bird that brought Johann from his daze. "What was that, Nikolaus?" Johann stood and looked at the Blue jay before checking his watch. "Nine o'clock exactly. You're getting very good at this, Nikolaus. Time to hit the town, ja?" He had trained this one Blue jay specifically to alert him of when the sun set, 9 o'clock pm, and 6 am. This way, he would never lose track of time. 9 o'clock was when Johann liked to search the town, either for his next meal, or for something that caught his eye. He checked his visage in a nearby bird bath. His stark black suit was neat, as usual. His blonde hair was slicked back, as usual. And he had eyeshine, as usual. You see, when a Gangrel frenzies, he gains an animal like trait, either temporarily or permanently. He had only frenzied once, and as a result he had developed eye-shine. Well, as long as nobody shined a flashlight in his face, he was fine. Johann wandered the streets of NYC, Nikolaus trailing behind casually. Suddenly, in the window of a men's wear store, he saw a pair of sunglasses that could help him get rid of his eye shine, or at least hide it. Nikolaus remained perched in a nearby tree as Johann walked into the store. He looked around, pretending to inspect the merchandise, while actually he was scoping out the night shift employees, memorizing their faces. He then exited the store and went around back of the building, where he would wait for one of the employees to go on break and come out back for a smoke. A tasty snack and a new pair of sunglasses, both for free. Johann was certainly content. He took place behind a dumpster and hid, waiting for an employee.

???:
It sat at the terminal and put the final touches on an email that it sent to a local homicide detective. Its command center was underground and the glow of the computer screen was the only illumination in the dark hovel. As it pressed the enter key to send the email on its way it caught a glimpse of its clawed finger, the long hooked talon a custard yellow in the backlight from the monitor, and grimaced in disgust. It hated what it was. But if its plan worked out like it had hoped then its days, and those of the so called "Masquerade", would be numbered. And so the emai detailing a spot on the pier to meet with its little surprise was out. It sat back on its haunches and waited for the requested return email.

Tim:
Tim worked at an all day convenience store in order to appease his parents and their overbearing list of rules. His 30 minute breaks were the only time of the day where he could sit back, relax, and smoke a cigarette. The alley behind the store served as the perfect place to do this. He longed to run away and live life on the road, totally free, and away from what his parents called his "responsibilities to society". He stepped out into the dimly lit back alley and whipped out his stainless steel butane lighter. The spark as the flame flared to life illuminated the eyes of some kind of animal. When he met the things gaze he froze, unable to move a muscle, and stared right back into them...

As Kurt sat lazily at his desk, he saw a new email pop up. He raised an eyebrow as he didn't recognize the sender. After carefully reading through the email, he decided to seek out the sender, who had informed him of a meeting at the local pier. After replying to the email and confirming his appearance at the meeting, he got up and put on his black North Face jacket before writing down a note in case anyone needed him while he was gone.

Gone to Pier. Call me on my cell.
Love: Kurt

He left the offices and went into the parking garage, where he retrieved his black Dodge Charger and left the establishment. He got onto the crowded roads of New York City and after a few minutes of driving, finally arrived at the pier. He parked his vehicle and climbed out, locking the doors. Always being a cautious person, Kurt knew that he had a few enemies in the NYC Underworld. He removed his Sig P226 from his shoulder holster and pulled back its slide, cocking the weapon. He then released the hammer of the weapon and put it back in the holster before walking over to the requesting meeting spot with his hands in the pockets of his jacket. He looked around cautiously, wondering if this was an ambush or if someone was actually going to speak with him about something exceedingly important enough to pull him away from his "chores" back at the Precinct.

As Tim stared at the shining eyes of the animal, he stood transfixed as Johann did when he looked at the moon. What hapened next let Tim know that it was not an animal. The animal spoke. "Guten abend. Wie gehets ihnen?" With that Johann slowly rose from his hiding spot, still staring into the eyes of the young boy. "Was ist the matter? You look like you've seen a geist." Johann laughed in broken English. He cocked his head as he eyed Tim, sizing him up. He always had a prevalent smirk, even when curious. He circled Tim, watching him carefully. Is this one ready to be changed? Do I really care? I want those sun glasses, and I want them now. These thoughts plagued his mind as the well dressed vampire circled the employee. "You work the night shift, ja? Who else does?"

EDIT: Guten abend, wie gehets ihnen = Good evening. How are you? Was ist = what is geist = ghost

Tim:
Terror gripped him as he looked at the monster in the shadows. The butane lighter in his hand cast only a small light, barely enough to see the face of the thing in the shadows with the weird accent. "It's only me and Amir tonight." he said in a monotone. The words were flowing out of him in a calm voice despite his overwhelming fear.

A cynical laugh escaped Johann. He wanted to scare this kid. He had a feeling he was doing a good job, but likewise Tim was doing a good job at hiding his fear, if he had any. Johann finally stopped circling as he came to a halt directly in front of Tim's face, only inches away. "Do you know what I am?" He said while grinning enough to show his fangs.

Tim:
Tim's fear paralyzed mind registered the fangs and the shining predatory eyes. He had no idea how to react. "I...don't... know." He meant it. He didnt believe in monsters or creatures of the night. A large part of his brain believed this man was an insane mugger/ murderer who was about to have his way with him.

The air that night was somewhat cold, as Kurt looked around for the mysterious contact. He lit up a cigarette as he waited, looking around for the mysterious individual. He didn't like this part of town, as he had been here many times to rustle the jimmies of suspects and to conduct drug busts. His suspicion was at an all-time high, as he didn't know why anyone would seek out a lowly Homicide Detective on their own initiative. If this was an ambush though, he would be ready.

Calmly. Johann licked his index finger and thumb. The then pinched the flame of the lighter, so that the moonlight was the only source of light for the two men. After a long pause with a chilling silence filling the air, Johann spoke. "I am just a figment of your imagination. Get back to work chump, break time is over." With that, Johann began to walk away as though nothing had just transpired. Befor he left view, however, he turned around swiftly and slammed his fist into the wall. "I SAID GET BACK TO WORK!" Suppressing a laugh, Johan continued on his way, Nikolaus in tow. "Perhaps we will visit the pier next, ja?" Nikolaus chirped happily as Johann said these words. And so, Johann began to make his way towards the pier.

Jafar:
The target had come. Jafar focused his energies and called on his blood to make him invisible. The hunger pangs and brief puff of black smoke the only indication he had to show that it had worked. Although he was only newly turned he had taken to the obfuscation discipline much quicker than other Kindred. The Kine he had been designated to hunt was bigger than he had been expecting. The poison darts he had selected as the designated kill weapon might not have enough poison to KILL the Kine. But it didn't matter. It would only take about 10 extra seconds to rush the man and slit his throat. ANd then he would receive his reward.

Tim:
He was too scared to move for almost a full 30 seconds after the man left. At some point he fainted because the next thing he knew Amir was standing over him. "Hey man nap time's over." he said in a bored voice. "Next time ease up on the weed and don't take it too deep." Tim pulled himself up off the alley floor and dusted his work apron off. He said nothing to Amir as he took his place behind the register.

The pier

Johann and Nikolaus made their way to the pier. The way the moon shone down on the water made Johann want to stay all night. But something caught his attention. A man in a police uniform standing out on the end of the pier. Casually Johann strode over to the man (Kurt). "Guten abend." He said as he slipped off his dress shoes and sat at the edge of the pier. He leaned back so that his eyes met the mans. "Wie gehets ihnen?"

Kurt only glanced at the man for a second before looking away. He wasn't a fan of strangers, and anyone that didn't speak English was a stranger in his book. He looked at his watch, wondering why the contact hadn't shown up. Rather than going through the ordeal of talking to Johann, Kurt proceeded to begin walking back to his car, dissatisfied that his contact hadn't shown up. A part of him believed that Johann could possibly be his contact, but he figured that if the mysterious individual had contacted him directly, then they would be serious enough to speak in English, rather than German. He waved to the local security guard as he walked on the wooden pier.

Well... That was rude. Johann got up and began to follow Kurt. He didn't like rudeness at all, and quite frankly was not going to take it from someone he'd never met before. "I said... How are you? Did your mother not teach you any manners?" He said as he stepped in between Kurt and his car. Maybe I can have some fun with this one, he thought. But he sensed something. As though someone else were their with them. But he didn't care. Johann was having an exceptional amount of fun tonight.

Kurt simply glared at the man who stood in between him and his car.

"I got places to go," he said bluntly.

"Where is the rush? Der nacht is young, der mond is full. It is an excellent night for a walk... If you're a blood drinker." He let these final words linger in the air as he began to walk towards Kurt, being sure to show off his eye shine in the moonlight.

As Johann approached him, Kurt stood his ground, looking the guy in the eyes. He figured that the man was on some form of narcotic, which caused him to be somewhat crazy. He had seen it before, as certain levels of psychosis were common effects of the so-called "Research Chemicals", which included drugs such as "Bath Salts" and LSD. If Johann attempted to grapple him or throw a punch at him, Kurt would simply step back and grab the man's attacking arm before throwing him to the ground. If this was successful, Kurt would step back again, as surely the Security Guard would notice this and come a-running.

Johann grinned, but only enough to show off his fangs. This man has moxie, he thought. Much braver than that Tim fellow. "You're not afraid of me, are you? Nein, of course you're not. You're a sensible man. You don't believe in fairy tales. All those rumors of things that go bum in the night are just things of fiction, to you. Or... Do you believe in such things? You know, zombies, werewolves... Vampires." He lingered on the word vampires, hoping to draw out some fear in Kurt. If not, he would have to tap into his powers to scare him. But he didn't think he would have to do that.

Being a sensible detective, Kurt doubted the existence of werewolves, vampires, and zombies. If the man was looking to scare Kurt, he would have a hard time of doing it.

"Have you ever been to Hell?," he asked. "Not as in one of your drug trips, but a legitimate Hell? There are no fairy tale monsters like those in the Hell I've been in. Just Men. So you ask me if I believe in zombies, werewolves, and vampires? I respond by saying that the only monster worth believing in is Man. Now I ask you to step aside, as I have obligations to fulfill."

He started off snickering. Then chuckling. And then into full blown laughter. He was going to give Johann a big speech about how much of a monster man is, and then tell Johann to step aside. Okay. Now Johann would really scare this man out of his mind. Johann called upon the power of his gangrel blood and, right before Kurt's eyes, melded into the ground.

Jafar:
As Jafar raised his blowgun to his lips the Kine was suddenly approached by a Kindred. Jafar had a sixth sense for determining clan ties. His intuition told him this man was Gangrel. Jafar's lip curled as he took in the Loners gait an demeanor. Jafar hate, hate, HATED the Gangrel. One of the Mongrels had killed his sire. Jafar, disregarding his mission for now, took a screw in cap that fitted the tip of his blowgun. Screwing it in turned the weapon into an effective stake. Jafar hesitated briefly before activating Auspex. The hunger became almost unbearable. He had almost Frenzied several times in his unlife. He hadn't gotten into the habit of feeding regularly quite yet. The Beast squirmed but Jafar kept it down...

Kurt had never seen anything like this in his life. Not even saying a word, he took a step back, looking at the ground where Johann once stood. The security officer approached slowly, pointing his flashlight at the spot.

"What the fuck?," the guard said.

"I...I don't know," Kurt said.

"Do you believe now?" Came the shrill echo of Johann's voice as he resurfaced behind the two men. This time, as he spoke, a low growl could be detected in his voice. If the eyes didn't work, and the teeth didn't either, it was always the old "disappear reappear" trick that worked.

Jafar:
Jafar popped back into existence behind the Mongrel and drove his stake through the unsuspecting Gangrels heart, paralyzing him for transport to the nearest Camarilla court where he would be summarily executed for his violation of the Masquerade. The two Kine would still have to be dealt with. A handthrown dart through the throat of the throat of the pier guard brought that issue to a close. He then drew another dart and lobbed it at the second Kine. Once he had dealt with this contract he would drag the paralyzed Gangrel to the nearest Cammie official, have him tried for violating the Masquerade, and watch the dog be executed. Jafar grinned...

Benito Armani:
Benito's Toreador blood had been calling for a dramatic and romantic setting from which to paint for days. When he had found it, on of the docks on the pier, he had set to work instantly. He was halfway done with a painting of the city as the late great Van Gogh would have painted it when the sounds of battle reached his ears which were more sensitive than other vampires. He tried to ignore them but it quite ruined the atmosphere he was trying to create. So he stood from his easel and removed his gun from its holster. It was a massive Python Revolver loaded with explosive rounds. He strode to the location of the sounds and just witnessed a Kindred kill a Kine with some kind of dart and set upon the other. Instinctively he raised his gun and fired at the Kindred, watched it connect, and smiled as the vulgar bastard sailed through the air away from the Kine. Benito smiled, loud and messy though they were, it was a VERY satisfying feeling to fire a gun.
