1. I condemn Iran's totalitarian theocratic regime, but the West imposing sanctions against Iran is the business of the West and Iran.
2. Firstly, Elizia is not a Muslim nation. A plurality of Elizians are Muslim, but Elizia is not a Muslim nation. Secondly, diplomatic relations should be handled on a case-by-case basis, regardless of religion.

1. I believe that sanctions against Iran have been absolutely necessary in the past, but today, with nuclear arms deals and a moderate, reformist President, sanctions should not be used as long as Iran continues to gradually open up to the world.
2. I have gladly voted for becoming an observer member of the OIC, and I believe that we should specifically partner with other plurality or majority-Muslim nations in combating Salafi and Wahhabi jihadism (such as the recent bout of attacks that plagued our nation by the Southeastern Asian branch of Daesh), but that in general we shouldn't radically alter foreign relations with other nations based on religion.

John Chiu Si-Liang (周西洋) - Non-Partisan
Image

Account Name: Ainin
Occupation: Attorney-General of Elizia

Party Position(s):
Party Leader of the Chinese Interests Party (Jul. - Oct. 2016)

Positions in Government:
Home Secretary (Jul. - Aug. 2016)
Attorney-General (Aug. 2016 - )

Constituency: Kentang East - Pegunungan (Jul. - Oct. 2016)
Political Ideology: Economic populism, social liberalism, minority rights
Family:
- Ann Lee (58), spouse
- Franklin Chiu (29), son
- Mary Chiu (26), daughter
Background: John Chiu was born on February 29, 1956, in Kentang to a middle-class Chinese-Elizian family of Hokkien origin. His father was a minor official in the local civil service while his mother was a secretary at the local British Army garrison. In 1957, at the onset of independence, the family moved to Nanjiang, in the Chinese-majority province of Jinyu, as a result of civil service reforms that favoured ethnic Malays in the capital of Kentang. The Chiu family lived relatively well in Nanjiang, where his father worked as a deputy postmaster and his mother as a receptionist at a police station. However, after Elizian separation from Malaysia in 1964, the Elizian National Congress came to power and implemented a series of anti-Chinese laws that purged the civil service of Chinese-Elizians, forcing the family into poverty and leading to their relocation to the lower-class Port District, where they ran a convenience store.

In 1971, when John was 15, anti-Chinese riots broke out throughout Elizia, encouraged by the ENC regime. The situation was particularly bad in Jinyu, where Malays were in the minority and resented Chinese domination of the local economy. Violent mobs, assisted by the army and police, looted and burned many businesses in the Port District. His father was killed in October of that year while attempting to protect his store from policemen. John and his mother, with their livelihoods in Elizia destroyed, obtained refugee status in Hong Kong with the help of an old acquaintance from the colonial era, the colonel in the British Army Elizia Command who she had worked for, by then deputy commissioner of the Hong Kong Police.

In Hong Kong, they lived in a cage home in a poor neighbourhood of Kowloon. However, at his mother's insistence, John continued his studies and went on to attend the Chinese University of Hong Kong. Around the same time, he began working as a clerk for the Xinhua News Agency's Hong Kong bureau. He graduated in 1977 with a baccalaureate in law. He then worked as a paralegal in the Xinhua bureau's legal department until 1984, when he returned to school to complete the PCLL and joined the Law Society as a solicitor in 1986. He returned to Elizia in 1993, after the end of the Cold War led the ENC regime to moderate its treatment of minorities under international pressure. He made the Elizian Bar as a barrister and proceeded to open one of the first Chinese law practices in the country in Kentang. He defended, without much success, minority leaders accused of subversive acts in court. His high-profile defence of a Daoist monk in 1997 led the government to incarcerate him for "subversive conspiracy against public order."

After his release in 2004, he moved to Nanjiang and worked for a time as a solicitor, as he did in Hong Kong, handling uncontroversial legal issues such as property and tort law. However, he also occasionally contributed editorials to a newspaper critical of the government. In 2007, he was once again charged after a police raid on the newspapers' offices identified him as a contributor. However, as a British Overseas National, he was allowed consultations with the British high commissioner, who convinced the local police commissioner to allow John to post bail. After posting bail, he disappeared into hiding in North Jinyu, living with a maternal cousin in the countryside where he clandestinely worked as a writer and organiser for the Chinese guerilla forces. During the Orchid Revolution, he returned to Nanjiang and helped organise a walkout by Jinyu's lawyers in support of the street protests and industrial wildcat strikes.

He was elected as prefect of Central District, Nanjiang after the city fell to the rebellion in late 2013, and was appointed a member of the National Council for Democratic Salvation in mid-2015, where he participated in the negotiations that led to the December Peace Accords. He was elected to Parliament in Elizia's inaugural free elections in June 2016, representing a constituency in the Federal Capital District consisting of parts of East District and Pegunungan District, the former home to Kentang's historic Chinatown. He served as Home Secretary in the Provisional Government and was appointed Attorney-General of Elizia during the Iskandar-Bambang administration. At the end of the parliamentary term, he declined to run for re-election, citing a conflict of interest.

Background: Known natively in Lao as Saifong-Doa (the black coast, from its black sand beaches), the predominantly Lao island was colonized by the Dutch in 1757. Military outposts were constructed at Calvijnschans, Manao, and Palmenhaven, with forts overlooking the ocean. The native Lao rose up in defiance in 1879, with 45 Dutch soldiers being killed at the Sayoung Massacre, outside Palmenhaven, leading the Dutch to grant greater self determination, and to end practices akin to serfdom on the island for the native Lao. In 1923, the Chinese came to the islands, to help work on tobacco, nutmeg, banana, and cinnamon plantation. Today the islands are part of Elizia. Industry is mostly farming related, but there is some textile manufactury in Palmenhaven and Frederikstad, and a good amount of mining in the far south of the district. The current Labour-dominated politics have placed a new emphasis on multiculturalism. The largest settlement is Palmenhaven, with 3,345 citizens, and the most important port is Calvinschans, with its deep harbour

She supported the revolution, but did not take part in it, and when the first democratic elections were held, she ran for the created constituency of Nila and Kuala, and gained 49.3% first-preference votes. Background: He was born in 1957 to Phep Sivousong, a Lao businessman and political writer for the newspaper in Palmenhaven, and his wife, a scioness of Dutch nobility, and a granddaughter of the last colonial governor. At the age of 16, he attended the Palmenhaven Saint-Christiaan Academy, a small school associated with the dutch reformed church. In 1976, he went to the University of Utrecht in the Netherlands to study Theology, in order to become ordained in the Dutch Reformed Church. Any Questions from the Public to be answered?
  • 1. Do you support the West's sanction regime against Iran? Why or why not? I support them, until they lead to destitution for the people of that country. Look, sanctions are meant to hinder governments which participate in inhumane practices or oppression. They are not meant to starve or impoverish citizens of a country. Sanctions are fine, unjust sanctions are not.
  • 2. How should Elizia interact with other Muslim nations on the regional and global stages? Is it any different than other diplomatic relations? I believe that Islam is a peaceful religion of unlimited possibility in working for human rights, economic development, and social advancements. However a reality of government in many Islamic countries is that it is highly clerical, and we must adapt our dialogue to fit within the context of dealing with those governments. I feel that relations are different, and that we need to be adaptable and understanding of our differences.
  • 3. How should ethnic tensions be resolved? Ethnic tensions should be resolved through dialogue and multicultural and ecumenical education in schools, that way the future generation will be educated with a tolerant and accepting mindset of others. I do not oppose hate crime legislation to lessen the tensions

12% White (British 5%, Irish 1%, Other European 2%, Other White 4%)
9% Mixed

Background: Nila and Kuala is an urban conurbation and port town on the banks of a river in Northwestern Elizia. Nila was founded in the 1600's as a fishing port, but due to it's convenient location on a river near the coast, during British rule it became a port town in which the British exported goods they had produced in Elizia, and merged with another fishing village across the water called Kuala. The port town attracted many businesses, who thought they could easily export their goods from the town. Due to it's location on the coast as a port town, many ethnic minorities moved into the area, and stayed. When the communist side won the Vietnam War, the town had an influx of immigrants from Vietnam, giving the region a large Vietnamese minority. Many of the former British colonialists settled down in the town, and their descendant's are thought to make up 5% of the population. The town is also home to a sizable Jewish community.

It’s van der Loon (or, if you’re Belgian, Van Der Loon), not VanDerLoon.

While the one for the Times of Elizia is excellent, I'd prefer for a more, modern style one for the Kentang Observer - after all, it is supposed to be a tabloid, run by Rupert Murdoch a newspaper magnate with conservative views.

Also could you please make it smaller? The maximum size is 900x900, sadly.

    Tijah bin Dian - (34) - Independent

    Account Name: Lykens

    Occupation: Senator

    Party Position(s):
    N/A

    Positions in Government:
    Speaker

    Constituency: Setiawangsa

Political Ideology: Social Liberalism, Secularism, Multiculturalism

Family: Mother, Naseema bin Mayang (50), Son, Dayang bin Tijah (16), Daughter, Naseema binti Tijah (16)

Background: On a hot, muggy day in June, 1982, Tijah bin Dian was born to relatively well off merchant Dian bin Tuah and his wife Naseema binti Mayang in the city of Kentang, Elizia. The birth of his firstborn son, coupled with the economic upturn as the ENC eased off of their previous strict control of the economy, led to a chaotic and booze filled night that ended with the death of Dian bin Tuah in a terrible car accident. Naseema was left to raise her son by herself, and her husband’s business was taken over by an estranged relative who didn’t particularly care for Naseema. However, the relative was a staunch social conservative who believed in tradition and made sure that Tijah was properly cared for in his childhood so that he may continue their family line.

The first eight year to ten years of his life were his happiness, but everything changed when the fire nation attacked the economy started to tumble along with the rest of the region in the 1990s. Naseema decided to act quickly, and taking the savings she had accumulated over the years and her son, fled to the United States. The pair settled in the sleepy town of Evanston, Illinois, where a budding Malaysian expatriate community had settled. The two settled in, eventually living in a small two bedroom apartment, very much different from their modest but comfortable living situation in Kentang’s moderately affluent Setiawangsa neighborhood, the two managed to live a decent life that they were comfortable with, although Naseema was forced to work two jobs to support the pair, and Tijah eventually had to take up a job in addition to his school work. Learning English was a breeze for Tijah, though his mother struggled and he often had to help her. Some years later Tijah enrolled in the University of Chicago and eventually graduated with degrees in Political Science and Public Administration.

Though they had finally managed to become comfortable in America, the two always longed to return to Kentang, and in 1998, they did just that. Settling in an apartment close to the one they lived in almost twenty years ago, the two settled back into a comfortable, middle class, urban lifestyle. Domestic troubles always seemed too far out of their bubble to affect the pair, but it was always right on the horizon. Tijah found work with the relative who supported him throughout his life, and eventually took the business over once the relative died. It was during this time that a close friend, Raheema binti Naseer, and Tijah became close and decided to marry.

The following year, on March 14, 2000, Raheema went into labor. After eighteen hours, a pair of twins, a boy and girl, were born, but Raheema was lost. Devastated, Tijah became a helicopter parent who doted over every action his children took. Eventually urged by his mother to lay off them, he became less strict and the family prospered.

The economic troubles of the decade would wreak havoc on his mercantile business, and he found it imperative to sell the enterprise, finally settling on a price to keep his family comfortable for long enough to put his children through school and help them in staying relatively financially stable for a few years thereafter.

However, his carefully planned out life was thrown out the window as the economy of Elizia continued to tumble further and further into the hole. Eventually things picked up in speed and before long, guerilla warfare, government crackdown, UN intervention, and a new government rocked the tiny Southeastern Asian nation.

Hoping to be an element for change, Tijah stood for election for his district of Setiawangsa and was elected as a member of the Social Liberal Party.

    Muhammad bin Zamrud - UNAFFILIATED
    Image

    Account Name: Kamchastkia
    Occupation: Policeman

    Party Position(s):
    N/A

    Positions in Government:
    N/A

    Constituency: N/A
    Political Ideology: Unknown

    Family: Wife, Nawar binti Raja
Background: Muhammad's roots sink deep into Kentang, his family having long-term Merchant and Military connections to the city, having been influential figures pre-independence. However, this influence slowly shrank as the ENC strengthened its position throughout independent Elizia. Muhammad was born in August, 1952 - into the upper ecehlons of Elizian society. He attended the best of schools Kentang had to offer, and was deeply respected at the mosque he and his family regularly attended as a deeply religious man. He was set to become a man of religion, to become an Imam himself. He is fluent in Arabic, and even going so far as to submit an application to go to the al-Azhar University in Cairo.

While his faith has played an important role in his life, his love for his wife, Nawar, surpassed that. He and Nawar wed in October of 1971. Following the wedding, Muhammad had to establish an income independent of his family, and quickly was accepted as a Traffic Cop by Kentang Police. He worked as a traffic policeman in the busy city for several years before again applying for the formal federal police. He was accepted and went through the traditional training program in the overly-politicized police force. He became a rank-and-file policeman assigned to the capital and remained relatively low in the ranks of the police until 1988, when he was promoted gradually up the ranks of the police to become the Chief Inspector of the Drugs Task Force, where he successfully arraigned several key players in the drug trade of South-East Asia and in Elizia specifically.

His apolitical position domestically, and strict, firm enforcement of the law has made him a popular candidate to replace the political leadership of the police.
    Faith: Sunni Islam

    Dislikes: Disorder, CHINESE COMMUNISTS.
