You can see it in how we treat the thinkers of the past too, apparently Plato is wrong because of his views on Democracy, not the lunatic analogies about boats and cows that lead him there.

Rationality justifies morality, this is the mark of a civilised society. That man's intellectual adventure will go unhindered no matter what turbulent waters it may cross. The opposite...where rational inquiry must bend to morality; that is, blind social dogma, is the mark of all decayed societies.
