[NSG Senate] Senatorial Database

Postby NSG Senate Administrators » Thu Dec 25, 2014 12:37 pm

Hello, and welcome to the NSG Senate Senatorial Database!
We know how much your senate means to you so that's why we, here at your senate, have decided to ensure you can find about your representatives and their people. These are the people you have elected for the senate, and these are the people who will decide your nation's future: so get acquainted lest you throw rotten fruit at the wrong person in the street!

To assist you in identification, we have provided the following database of senators, organisations and staff members. Sadly this database is still in progress, but we are doing our best to fill it out. In this database we have listed all senators as we receive their information.

REGINA CRISTINA MARINO - NEW DEMOCRATS
Image

Account Name: Arkolon
Occupation: Member of Parliament
Party Position(s):
Economic Spokesperson (April -)

Positions in Government:
Prime Minister (June -)

Constituency: San Pedro-Granpino
Political Ideology: Liberal conservatism, radical centrism, centre-right
Family: Hernandos Marino (spouse), Cristian Marino (son)
Background: Regina Cristina Marino was born in 1972 to Henrique Marino, her father, and Claudia Vasquez, her mother. Henrique Marino worked his way up the corporate ladder in San Pedro Shipping, a logistics company that shipped goods from the Caribbean to elsewhere around the area, and sometimes through the Panama Canal, ending up as a director of Central American operations before retiring in 2010. Her mother, however, worked for charity aiding impoverished orphaned children until her untimely death in the 1984 "Sabado Negro" attacks, leaving Regina without a mother at twelve years old. Regina's childhood was heavily shaken by this, and as the incident was blamed on Garifuna separatists Regina has closeted hatred towards those peoples, even after the 2006 revelations that it was in fact a ploy aided by the American CIA. This latter part did not stir Regina as much as it did 22 years earlier, mostly because of Regina's intimate relationship with the United States. Following a tough, restrictive adolescent life under the authoritarian rule of the military junta, Regina worked her way into NYU Stern Business School in 1995, which she left in 1999 with a degree in Business Studies. She returned to Calaverde in 2000, where she dropped her aspirations in the corporate world, instead turning to her hometown community in San Pedro. Since the establishment of the Calaverde provisional government after the chaos that ensued the deposing of the military junta, Regina turned to the political stage, and was elected Senator for her hometown constituency.

Regina Marino was first the co-founder of the Civic Democrats until the party became defunct. Marino moved over to the Liberal Democrats, where she stayed for two PM terms. In April 2015 Marino co-founded the New Democrats. She was later elected Economic Spokesperson for the New Democrats. On June 1st 2015, Regina was nominated as Prime Minister by President Matilde Ojeda-Campos.

Orlando Santos - Liberal Democrats
Image

Account Name: Fortschritte

Occupation: Senator

Party Position(s): Member

Constituency: N/A

Political Ideology: Centre to Centre Right, Liberalism, Market Liberalism

Family: María Santos, Wife. Juan Santos, son. Julia Santos, daughter.

Background: Santos was born in May of 1959 to a impoverished family in the Medellin, Colombia. Santos dropped out of high school to make money for his family, and worked a number of odd jobs to do so, particularly in the Colombian tourist sector. In 1986, he married his wife, María Santos, and had two kids. In 1990, he and his family left Colombia for Calaverde to avoid the Colombian Drug War. In 1991, he enrolled in university courses, since he had never been to college, and received a law degree by 1999. In 2002, he became actively involved in national politics, and by 2014, he became a senator.

Faith: Roman Catholic

Likes: Swimming, Futbol, Biking, Hiking, Dark Chocolate, Beer, Wine, Cigars, Liberalism, Rationalism, Tolerance.

Dislikes: Chavism, Pop Music, Hatred, Colombian Drug War, Annoying Tourists.

Ask My Senator Anything!
  • Thoughts on the Free Liberal Party?: While I admire the party's market liberalism and socially liberal policies, I can't say that I'm a fan of the policies that advocate dramatically reducing government size. Regardless, I'm relatively supportive of the party, and I hope that I, and the senators in my party will work with them in the near future.
  • Thoughts on Adrian Independence?: I support a United Calaverde. Ethnic nationalism shouldn't spur certain people to break away from our country. A United Calaverde is a strong Calaverde.
  • Purely hypothetically, if a dashing gentleman were to point a pistol at you and say 'your money or your life', would you give him your wallet and phone without causing too much of a fuss?: Yes, since I value my life.
  • Stance on autonomy, not independence, for Adrius, and other ethnic and linguistic minorities?: I'm alright with the idea, provided that the area given autonomy has significant cultural and linguistic differences compared to the rest of the nation.
  • What was your relationship, if any, with the Calaverdean Junta?: Upon moving to Calaverde, I wasn't very involved in politics, since I was working on completing university degrees in my 30's, and I was involved in law school. But, by 2002, I became involved in politics, and spoke out against the authoritarian regime. I was briefly jailed in 2007 for criticism of the Junta.
  • How many languages do you speak?: Spanish, French, and a fair bit of Dutch.
  • What are your thoughts on Israel?: I'm for the idea of a Jewish State, but I'm against the actions of the Israeli government given what they've done to Palestine.
  • What are your thoughts on abortion?: Personally against abortion, but I'm pro choice, since I don't have the right to dictate what a woman does with her body.

If Adrius were to fail somehow, I would support some sort of union with the Netherlands.

Senator if you ever had the chance to implement a voucher system of healthcare, would the distribution be for universal coverage or means-tested?

It would be universal.

Divitaen wrote:
The Union of the West wrote:I hardly see how it would be more cost-effective.

Wouldn't it produce the problem of supplier-induced demand, with private hospitals taking advantage of the system to prescribe excessive medical procedures for profit? Since you support universal coverage, why not implement a universal healthcare system like the NHS?

I recognize the advantages of a state-run system, however, the benefits of a voucher-system outweigh those of the state-run system.

A voucher-system allows the free-market to 'take it's course', you could say. It gives the consumer a choice between various healthcare providers. If a hospital is prescribing excessive medical procedures, the patient can go to a different hospital and receive treatment at a lower, fairer cost. To keep patients, healthcare providers must remain competitive, by keeping their prices low. This, in my opinion, supersedes the issue of supplier-induced demand.

Westley James Kourie - Tea Party
Image

Account Name: Kouralia
Occupation: Senator
Party Position(s):
Tea Manufacturer and Pirate Ambassador

Positions in Government:
None

Constituency: None
Political Ideology: Tea-Based Nautical Robbery
Family: Buttercup Kourie, Inigo Kourie and Waverly Hook (and her husband Killian Jones)
Background: Westley Kourie was one of seven brothers who lived on an island off the coast of Calaverde or whatever the bloody hell it's called (he doesn't pay attention to stupid things like what the land-lubbers think). Raised by a clinically insane ex-British-Admiral, they were trained in many nautical things like driving a ship and how to kill a man with a boarding dirk. One day they decided to get wives, and it was kinda like the story of seven brides and seven brothers. This is why seven well-fit birds disappeared one night from the towns by the water-front.

Wooed by Wesley, Buttercup then joined him in being piratical and shit and after their father, Louis Mountbatten, died (for real - he faked his death to go and be a pirate in the Caribbean) of a surfeit of Rum, Sodomy and the Lash (in that order - it was a wild night) they went to the mainland to be like Bonnie and Clyde. Running around and doing criminal stuff, they were nearly caught, but luckily Wesley was a total beefcake and both he and Buttercup were polyamorous and Bi, so they seduced an equally inconceivably attractive, bi and polyamorous detective dude called Inigo who let them escape in return for also marrying him by PIRATE MARRIAGE LAW, which involved lots of rum, sodomy, and the lash.

Then one day they had a child, named Waverly, who grew up and married and changed her name... BUT WAS STILL RAISED TO BE A PIRATE. No one's sure if Waverly is Westley or Inigo's daughter, but no one really cares. There's probably more story, but I'm enjoying this rum so I'll leave it for the moment. He might be immortal or something, and should probably be older than he is, but... timey-wimey, who cares.
Faith: Atheist
Likes: Rum, Sodomy and the Lash. Also murder and pillage. The Princess Bride.
Dislikes: Police. The Navy. The French. The Spanish. Wine-drinking pansies. Coffee. Scurvy.
Any Questions from the Public to be answered?
  • What would your party do to grow the economy and improve free trade? Well, I think we should remove all tariffs and seek to improve and increase all sea-bound trade immediately through brokering deals with any country possible. I also hope to make inroads into expanding the rum business.
  • What is your opinion on anti terrorism laws and combating terrorism world wide as well as at home? I think we should strictly define terrorism to prevent it being used as some kind of fall-back whenever the government needs a boogeyman to scare the people, or if they fancy coming down hard on someone. Then we should go after those curs with everything we have, deploying forces abroad whether in combat or combat support service roles to assist in the international efforts against the scum. Personally they should also be punished by being declared outlaws.
  • What's your favourite track off Rum Sodomy & the Lash? And the Band Played Waltzing Matilda.
  • How did your upbringing influence your desire to enter politics? Well, my adoptive father was well boss and taught me lots of shit about how to pirate. But he also taught me that sometimes the system can be subverted against itself to provide an opening.
  • What is your opinion on the situation in Ukraine and its effects rippling across Europe, particularly in Russia? Russia should be Hostis Humani Generis.
  • How should Calaverde respond to the recent decline in global oil prices? Procure additional stocks of oil by seizing in-transit tankers.
  • What is your proposal for maintaining Calaverde's biodiversity, especially in its rainforest and coast? Kill any American developers who come in. Unless they've got a lot of money they are willing to provide me with, in which case I'll stab the f*cking parrots to death myself.
  • What international organizations do you believe Calaverde should join? The British Empire.
  • What was your relationship, if any, with the Calaverdean Junta? Occasionally its police and customs officials and soldiers would get too close to my little piratical endeavours. So I would kill them.
  • How many languages do you speak? Two. English and Foreign.
  • What are your thoughts on Israel? It be a land of scurvy wenches and commendably chilled bulldozer drivers.
  • What are your thoughts on abortion? It's a woman's right, and it should be respected as it is in most civilised states.

Miguel Iglesias González - Indigenous Workers' Party
Image

Account Name: New Waterford
Occupation: Senator
Party Position(s):
Member

Positions in Government:
N/A

Constituency: TBC
Political Ideology: Democratic socialist/Liberation theologian
Family: None
Background: Miguel was born in 1977 into a relatively well off and middle-class Catholic family in San Cristóbal, with an overall happy childhood and quite good grades in school. A rather devout Christian, he engaged in an intense analysis of the Gospels in his youth; from his study of the Scriptures, he concluded that capitalism was incompatible with the teachings of Jesus Christ, and found that His message fitted better with socialism. This convinced him to espouse left-wing fiscal (and to some extent, social) policies, and he joined the Democratic Left Party in late 2014, but defected to the WA and later the IWP less than a year later.
Faith: Catholic
Likes: Socialism, love of one's neighbour, asceticism, compassion, altruism, humility, forgiveness, peace, democracy, football, Queen, Led Zeppelin, AC/DC, Black Sabbath
Dislikes: Hatred, selfishness, pride, material wealth, capitalism, nationalism, Nickelback, general arseholery
Any Questions from the Public to be answered?
  • If a purely hypothetical gentleman with a dirk and glock inconvenienced your security detail and asked for your money or your life, what would you do? - I would probably allow said hypothetical gentleman to take the money.
  • What was your relationship, if any, with the Calaverdean Junta? - I was privately opposed to it, but I did nothing to speak out against it (at least not until its final years) for fear of persecution, for which I feel terribly guilty.
  • How many languages do you speak? - I am fluent in Spanish and English, I speak French on an intermediate level, and I know a few bits and pieces of Dutch and Creole.
  • What are your thoughts on Israel? - I believe the land owned de jure by the State of Israel is theirs, but they have no right to exert control over Gaza and the West Bank. I find the illegal Israeli settlements in Palestine deplorable, but I also object to the violence espoused by Hamas.
  • What are your thoughts on abortion? I regard abortion to be a terrible thing, not only because it takes the life of the foetus, but can also cause deep psychological and emotional scarring for the mother. However, I recognise that in many cases abortion is necessary, such as if the mother's life is in danger or if her socio-economic background would jeopardise the baby's health and well-being. For this reason, I believe abortion should be legalised and provided by the state, but as much as possible should be done to prevent abortions from taking place in other ways; for instance, improving the living conditions of people living in poverty, thereby minimising the number of abortions performed for socio-economic reasons, as well as having sexual education which teaches young people the implications of unwanted pregnancy and abortion ingrained into the public education system, and perhaps even promoting contraception as an alternative.

Follow-up question. If I, Senator Kourie, were to say I saw your wife going into that dark alleyway over there out of sight of the security cameras, and I think she wanted you to go and speak to her, would you go into the alleyway?

Would you be offended if I called you a scurvy, lily-livered wench?

Senator, which nations do you think Calaverde should align itself with? Should we take part in the Chavist "Pink Tide", or should we seek better relations with more free market nations, such as Colombia and the USA?

Admirable cause, but out of touch with the reality of the Calaverdean economic situation. The current climate necessitates that we help Calaverdean people out of poverty with government programs, such as easy credit, subsidies, and, at the very least, basic services free of charge. I do not think that such a party would gain much traction, as it overlooks some of the key wrongs in our country, and uses the wrong ways to make them right.

Do you support independence for the Adrianer Dutch (OOC: Or whatever the name of the Dutch minority will be)?

Ah, uh, no.

If someone were to hold a boarding dirk at you and ask 'your money or your life', would you give over your phone and wallet without much of a fuss?

I don't see any alleyway, senator.

Just outside of the lobby, turn left, one hundred meters, then it's between the Off-License and the Fishing Shop on the right.
