Keep the criticism to a minimum on both sides, and please keep them friendly. Side note: who actually controls the management of foreign power's reactions to what we do?

I will be absent tomorrow as I will be on a trip to visit a college. I should be back late afternoon to look over any TGs or messages left for me. I don't think any votes will happen in my absence so i won't appoint a proxy. Please direct all emergency calls to Walter deGroot [Ainin].

I have mixed feelings about PISA testing. It can be a useful tool, but I think people can get too locked into the nations rank and fail to see the bigger picture of education. Standardized test scores can be very misleading.

The Ministry opinion is not only to rank us against the world but to look at areas of improvement, I shall be going on a tour of some of the highest performers to look at what we can do to improve our system.

I would suggest visiting Finland and see what has been done there. I think the Finns have a lot of interesting strategies that could perhaps be modified and implemented here.

Ministry of Education: Foreign Visits

It is the intention of the Minister of Education to take part in several foreign visits with his counterparts across the globe to discuss Educational matters, qualifications and to understand what we can learn. The Minister is intending to visit the high performers in PISA 2012 to observe how learning takes place, however we do not intend to just meet politicians and bureaucrats we intend to visit schools on the ground and speak to teachers and students.

Here is a guide to the trip

20th April - 21st April - Singapore - Meeting Heng Swee Keat on the 20th April to discuss general educational matters and all school registration practice including Private Schools. On the 21st April, the Minister of Education intends to visit the Beacon School of Technology to meet lecturers and students to observe and understand what can be done in Aurentina.

22nd April - Japan - Meeting Hakubun Shimomura to discuss opening up opportunities for children with learning difficulties in our Education systems alongside the promotion of Aurentine Universities, however to continue to raise the issue of comfort-women and how the involvement of the army is ignored in education.

23rd April - Shanghai (China) - Visit Shanghai Middle School to discuss and observe the learning styles in classrooms, including moving away from teacher instruction learning primarily and promoting individual thought and critical discussion. Intend to understand the passion to learn displayed by students whilst observing lessons.

The Minister does then intend to return to Aurentina briefly for two days to summarise and present his findings to the Senate before moving towards our European neighbours to discuss issues of Educational importance.

26th April - United Kingdom - Meeting the Rt. Honourable Michael Gove (Secretary of State for Education) in London to discuss reforms to examinations and look at how qualifications could and/or should be in Aurentina.

27th April - Ireland - Meeting Ruairi Quinn (Minister for Education and Skills) to discuss the global economy, links between Aurentina and Ireland in Education and further discuss the formal aims of their Department which is similar to the programme adopted by the Minister of Education.

28th April - Finland - Meeting Krista Kiuru (Minister of Education and Science) to discuss the basis of no tuition fee education, how it works and developed in Finland alongside the finnish model of Education and how it could be applied in Aurentina. The Minister of Education intends to visit an early learning day-care during his time in Finland to observe how child development is pursued in Finland.

This shall conclude the Minister's trip, where he shall issue a statement to the Senate and the Council of Education as to his discoveries and what he believes can be done in Aurentina to ensure we are among the best in the world for Education beginning from birth until death. The Minister shall also announce additional policies in this statement not included in the policy programme relating to Qualifications and Examinations in Aurentina.

The Ministry of Education is looking for three members of the Council of Education to come along with him on this tour, preferably representing all factions on the Council to be fellow observers and contribute to the final report.

Code: Select all
Senator Name:
Member of the Council of Education: Y/N
Why do you want to go on this tour?
Whilst the Minister does wish for representatives of the Council of Education to come along, he is also opening the invitation to other Senators from all political backgrounds however those coming on the tour shall be fully approved by the Ministry of Education beforehand.
