Formal apology for self-commendation and multiing

Postby Auralia » Tue Feb 17, 2015 2:35 pm

Note: I'm not sure whether this is supposed to go in the Security Council or Gameplay subforums. Moderators, please feel free to move this to whichever forum is appropriate.

I'd like to take this opportunity, now that almost a year has passed and I've had some time to reflect on what happened, to formally apologize for having two nations in the World Assembly at the same time while attempting to commend myself.

When one agrees to play any game, one must agree to abide by the rules of that game. Cheating disrupts the balance between players that is established by the rules, making the game less enjoyable for everyone involved. By multiing, I broke the rules that I agreed to when I joined NationStates and, in so doing, I made the game less enjoyable for the rest of the NationStates community. Again, for this, I owe you all an apology.

I recognize that this apology comes quite late and that, by cheating, I've severely damaged a number of my relationships with others, in some cases irreparably. I'm afraid all I can do at this point is apologize and declare my firm intent not to break the rules again. I hope that you will all be able to forgive me and that we can move forward from this.

Can't say I liked what you did, but I happened to like your proposals. You had a promising future in the SC. Hell, still might have one (puppet nation anyone? :P )

Coming from someone who also had a puppet expelled for multiing, I accept your apology.

You still might have a promising future with a WA puppet.

One question sits in my mind related to your topic: Why didn't you ask for somebody to write you a commendation? You had credibility and you were a known player correct? Then surely you must have known somebody that would have been willing to submit the proposal on your behalf.

Because he is a snake. And only now long after he's been caught he's 'asking for forgiveness" because everyone hates him for being a snake. I bet he'd do it again if he had the chance.

Decisions should not be made based solely on the text in a book. Especially a book in which many of it's readers will openly admit that parts of it should not be taken literally.

Zero = Zero. You know who you are.

One point strikes me.

Cheating the system by commending themselves is distinctly less harmful to ones pride that asking (begging) someone to commend them. It's difference between a beggar and a thief, one has no dignity the other has no honor. Auralia is one of the latter. That said, it's a game and the only problem here really is that he got caught, no one was harmed because of the action, no one but Auralia had anything to gain or lose...and I'm not sure but I think everyone might have forgotten about the entire situation already.

And what would be morally corrupt about commending oneself? Politicians are allowed to vote for themselves, nay encouraged to vote for themselves at elections and praised for it. At least a thief goes out to achieve something.

I was referring to breaking the rules. As the saying goes, once a cheater always a cheater. It applies to cheating in games as well.

This being the right thing to apologize for, and apparently sincere, I must accept, at least on behalf of myself for the harm to me through the harm to the game.

It is a year later yes. You did come up with the fortitude to say it eventually, however, which matters a great deal.

I'm not sure what moving forward you have in mind, but I look forward to it all the same.

I wouldn't say that. We've had plenty of people here that've corrected their behavior in terms of staying in line with the rules.

As far as the apology goes, it's appreciated, Auralia.
