[SUBMITTED] Condemn Wahatan

Postby The Nation of Ceneria » Mon Jul 14, 2014 6:42 am

First of all, let me apologize for submitting this proposal before any edits were made. I believe that this action taken by Wahatan could not remain unpunished. Despite the shortcomings (as I know there are) in this proposal, I beseech you, for the good of the RPing community, to endorse this condemnation.

Thank you.

The Security Council—

NOTING that the region American Continent has had a major part in the role-playing community of NationStates,

REALIZING that, through the actions of Wahatan, the region was invaded, resulting in the suppression of years of RMB posts and the destruction of the World Factbook Entry,

SHOCKED that such a fate should be allowed to befall a region that has clearly been so invaluable to the role-playing community,

AMAZED that such an action might go unpunished,

HEREBY condemns Wahatan.

Are you... you cannot be serious...

This is a standard raid. There isn't even any griefing involved yet, and there may not be; everything that has been done to the region is completely reversible. Condemning a nation for one raid that hasn't even involved griefing is never going to happen.

Additionally, the region sponsoring the raid, Lone Wolves United, is already condemned.

Finally, I can assure you that nothing would thrill Evil Wolf more than this puppet getting condemned for one raid on an RP region that hasn't even noticed it's been raided. He'd get a real kick out of it. So, sure, go for it.

Spidey sense is tingling (R4).

4. Your proposal must read as representing the opinion of the World Assembly, and as targeting a Nation or Region.
This means:

(a) You cannot reference the "real world" outside of NationStates.
(b) You must refer to nations as nations, not as the player behind them. This includes the use of pronouns such as "he" or "she" as opposed to "they".
(c) You cannot refer to the game, or events or actions in it, as part of a game.
(d) Your proposal must be written from the perspective of the World Assembly.

The phrase "role-playing community" violates this rule.

Technically it might not. It doesn't say that the roles the role-playing community are playing are nations - this could be a world with whole nations of people who role-play and who consider themselves a common community, of which one particular region could play a prominent role, just like we can talk about the "Red Sox Nation" and say that the Boston area has had a major impact on the Red Sox community.

The real issue is that this proposal is an overreaction. The author is, essentially, attempting to sentence someone to 20 years in jail for the unpardonable offense of jaywalking.

Condemnations aren't really useful in combating an invasion.
They may be used to criticise a pattern of actions by nations or regions, to try and harm their reputation, or to bring them to the attention of the wider NationStates community; how successful this can be depends on the target, however.

Still, in this case, other responses could be more useful.

There's precedent. Argument here confirmed by mod ruling here.

No argument here.

I could argue that that doesn't apply, since the context is different - describing something as a roleplaying region is different from the idea that within this world of NS, there are people who roleplay and regions where it is valued/encouraged.

But what I'm actually going to say is that Rule 4 is a load of bollocks, that the way it has been interpreted is an insult to Gameplay, and that I look forward to one day restarting the R4 wars. :meh:

I'm almost willing to bet money that Ceneria didn't even know that American Continent existed, never mind their status as a Role Play region, until he saw the Lone Wolves United article regarding the raid.

But, no, I'm sure the region is "invaluable" to the Role Playing community.
