Grand France does not generally operate political "parties," not in the more commonplace sense of the word today, because the French nation operates on consensus government, with individuals being elected as independents from various constituencies by simple first-past-the-post voting, or in some cases majority voting.

Even the few government ministries are not run by one person with absolute ministerial authority*, but are instead each run by a small panel of five men and women, who are also in Parliament.

* Excepting the Ministry of War & Civil Defense

There's a widow in sleepy Chester
Who weeps for her only son;
There's a grave on the Pabeng River,
A grave that the Burmans shun;
And there's Subadar Prag Tewarri
Who tells how the work was done.

Liberal Party- This party is currently favored by the Emperor. Their leader, Gregory Orlov, is serving as the Imperial prime minister. The Liberal Party holds 60% of the seats in the Parilament and is popular among the elderly, middle aged people, the disabled, the sick, the unemployed, and the homeless.

Conservative Party- This party holds 20% of the Parilament's seats. It is not liked by the Emperor. The party is popular among middle class and wealthy people. This Party supports lower taxes and less government.

Worker's Party-This party has never become prime ministers but hold the remaining 20 percent of the seats of Parilament. The party is supported by workers and unionmembers and wants to abolish the Empire, and make it a working republic. The Emperor has banned them and destoryed their headquarters.

Socialist Party: The Socialist Party of Arkinesia is a very small party, almost a faction. It only holds one seat of the 26 in Arkinesia's Upper Parliament, and 3% of the seats in the Lower Parliament. No Socialist Party member has ever been elected as President of Arkinesia.

Libertarian Party: Arkinesia's Libertarian Party is the largest party by far. It holds 20/26 Upper Parliament seats and 62% of Lower Parliament seats. Also, the sitting President is affiliated with the Libertarians.

Federalist Party: The Federalists are a minority, but a present force. They make up 29% of the Lower Parliament and hold 4/26 Upper Parliament seats. Federalist Presidents have been elected twice in Arkinesia's history (the first two Presidents were Federalists). However, federalism has been on the decline in Arkinesia ever since the second president's multiple political and moral debacles.

Organized political parties are illegal in Saxemberg, though various factions exist in the principality's four legislatures.

The closest thing to a political party in Saxemberg would be the underground Popular Movement for Democratic Reform (MPRD).

The main registered political parties who ran candidates in the last election are: the All Peoples Party, the Allied Governance Party, the Conservative/Libertarian Party, the Grant Park Christian League, The Harrow Fund Party, The Harrow Tsarist Movement, The Independant Socialist Party, Independence Party, the Liberal Party, The Libertarian Enviromentalist Party, the Lonestar Party, the Moniterist Party, The National Agrarian Party, The National Monarchist Party, The National Socialist Party, Naturalist Party, the New Alliance Party, the Pirate Liberation Front, The Southern Liberation Party, United Front, the United Peoples Party, The United Workers Party, the Unity Party, The Urban Pirate Party and the Urban Socialist Party.

The way our elections work is anyone who is willing to pay a deposit is allowed to contest any of the 364 seats in our Parliament. To get a refund of your deposit you must recieve 15% of the vote in your riding. Besides the above mentioned parties, it isn't unusual for several unallied candidates to contest any seat. We have a first-past-the-post system so it is common for parliamentarians to be elected with less then 20% of the popular vote in their riding.

There is no political will to change this system.

While there are no political parties in Acentinia, there are millions of groups dedicated to free association between individuals.

Politics in Acentinia has a negative connotation. Politicians are viewed with great suspicion, and typically expatriate after learning that there are few political freedoms in Acentinia. The bureaucracy is also viewed with derision, often called the "bumblecrats," playing on their penchant for failure, or the "bumocracy," an argument against their incessant need for handouts to sustain themselves.

Take for example the issues presented by Acentinia Decides. Often, many issues are rejected by the small government on the grounds that "The Government has no constitutional writ to decide here."

Please feel free to visit Acentinia's exotic forests and feast upon their free-range buffaloes, or bear witness to the huge Uranium mines, decorated with indigenous statues to Korimata-Mortir, the God of Death.

Postby Trangarlia » Thu Oct 08, 2009 6:29 pm

The Grand Republic of Trangarlia is a representative federal republic of 27 constituent states. Our joyous Republic has a national assembly, called after much thought, The National Assembly (NA)--the sole federal legislative mechanism.

Political Parties are recognized as a free association by right of association, but are not recognized as official government organs, as the most serene and wise founders of our generous Republic sought to minimize factions, cronyism, duels, and road rage.

Parties are taxed in proportion to their membership, wealth, and donations, unless the Party agrees to take vows of poverty and silence, in which case they can operate as non-taxable entities. So far no party has applied for non-taxable status.

Parties in order of their size are:

Grand Party of Trangarlia (GPT) the only party to exist since the founding. It is paleo-liberal in its platform, but much latitude is given its members so that a large minority is effectively progressive socialist. It may soon become the leading organ for social change and free cappuccino. 39% of the voting population.

Great and Powerful Federal Party (GPFB) is made up of an uneasy coalition of the former Majorly Moral Party, The Big Guns and Little Hand Grenades Party, and the Just Say No Party. It has seen an increase in size due to an assimilation of the fractured Objectively Theistic Randian Libertarian Fellowship. The better organized Fellowship was able to take control of key positions in the Federal Party. The Platform is a hodgepodge of conservative and liberal policies mainly determined by popular poll. Since the parliamentarian coup of the Fellowship, the platform has seen a change for more economic and personal freedom, especially freedom from unwanted cappuccino. 27% of the voting population.

The Soliliquious Party of the East (SPE) is a strong regional party that has a majority in 3 contiguous states, and a strong presence in the neighboring 8. It supports small but efficient and effective government at the federal level, and more power to the legislatures of the state and local level. It mildly supports labor unions, fights for higher tariffs to run the federal government, and abolishing antiquated laws that no longer reflect current social custom. Because of their unique position of being both a regional and national party, they have considerable power beyond their numbers. 19% of the voting population.

The Young and Restless United Socialist Democratic Peoples Workers Labor Coalition Party (Y&RUSDPWLCP) has lost a lot of thunder to the Grand Party in the last 40 years. As of the 2005 elections, it has been downgraded to a minor party. The current control of party is by the aggressive and provocative, 1st Order of Anti-Business Laborers For Democracy, who the majority that are left. 7% of the voting population.

The Libertarian and Constitution Coalition for the Advancement of Life, Liberty, and Propriety (L&CCAL), have gained ground in the last 15 years. They are coalition of Libertarian, and Democracital- Republicanist Party, who stand for free enterprise, limited government, and setting the clocks off of summertime/daylight savings time. By spending large amounts of money on media and textbooks, they hope to gain ground by persuading the next generation of their merits. The Constitution and Libertarian Press comic book Con-Man and Lib-Woman is one of the most read books in Trangarlia. 5% of the voting population.

Benevolent Dictatorship of the Proletariat Party (BDPP) is an old but stable party that advocates giving all power to Winston Smith, III, who will destroy the current social order (in a lawful, and peaceable manner of course) to allow the proletariat to assume his/her rightful position as the new man/woman of the new social order. The party may not last much longer as Mr. Smith is 102 years old. 4% of the population.

Fuzzy Bunny Party (FBP)is a silly party strongest in the capitol city and chief port city of Trangralia. Its platform and policies are for comedic effect and no one from the silly party has been elected to any national legislative office, although some have been sent as ambassadors to annoying countries. 1% of the voting population.

The numbers do not add up to 100% due to the Federal Office of Accounting and Statistics method of using Fuzzy Bunny Party Members as appointees because of their willingness to work cheap.

Yasashii is not a true democracy. Rather, university professors elect a single person to represent their campus, and these official form the National Board. In a sense, then, the various polytechnics and universities are political parties in and of themselves.
