Trade - Imports and Exports (Future Tech)

PostPosted: Tue Jul 28, 2009 6:11 pm

Some time ago on the original NS I saw a thread that featured Imports/Exports for nations. This was specifically for MT nations but I thought it would also be a good idea to do the same for the FT community. I liked the idea of nations getting more involved with each other rather than just the usual wars. This is especially useful for nations who own and otherwise operate some sort of trade hub or gate system to facilitate trade or for those that just want more RP opertunities. Trade conflicts, hostile takeovers, mergers and trade unions, monopolies, commercial espionage and so on come to mind for RP opertunities. There's some good RP possibilities here and I would like to stress that in choosing what to trade, one must remember to think in terms of what trade items, products, resources etc... that both your people and leadership would desire and wish to have excess to, not you (OOC'ly) specifically. In other words, all trade is IC - its about what your people want, not what you want.

Also, I would like to take into account the concept of "demand". This can be represented by simple ratings, such as; Low, Moderate, High, Very High, Extreme and so on. Also important is who's trading and demanding the resource in question. This demand, of course, will reflect how important a specific resource is to your people. Anyhow, if you're interested, post a list of things your nation would normally import and export. Furthermore, try not to cludder this thread with to many irrelevant posts

The Future is Now.

Demand is present. Is supply?

You do not need my permission, Balrogga. You can link this thread if you like.

@ Eternal Mysteries: You bring up a good point, perhaps a similar system can be used for "Supply" as it is for "Demand". Question is, how will "Supply" be decided? I suppose it will be solely to the descretion of the player.

Bretonia is a highly industrial nation, as typified by the variety of industrial goods it tends to export. Contrariwise there is a large market for foods and luxuries, as well as a few materials which are in high demand for various reasons. As a free market economy, Bretonia trades with similarly liberal countries freely, and foreign companies are welcome to attempt to establish themselves in any perceived market vacuums.

The list below indicates common products and their levels of production within Bretonia. Products with high levels of production are likely to command low prices within Bretonia and are often exported abroad, therefore presenting few opportunities for foreign companies to establish themselves. On the other hand, products which fail to meet domestic demand might command high prices and multiple opportunities for importation. All of these products are produced at some level within Bretonia, however, so under-production should not be misinterpreted as a complete absence.

Bright green indicates extensive over-production, and therefore high levels of exportation.
Green suggests that domestic demand is satisfied, though exportation is common.
Orange indicates demand for a certain commodity, with reasonable levels of importation.
Red indicates an urgent need for imports, therefore, a potentially lucrative market.

This list is by no means definitive, and may be altered or expanded. It should also be noted that, as a free market economy, even those products which are in high domestic demand might be exported regardless, though given the high prices these items command it is unlikely for this to be the case. Industrious enterprises are encouraged to check the current affairs section at the end of this document for potential contracts.

Bretonia, the Sskiss Empire could provide and trade you the following; Alien Organisms, Cobalt, Fertilizer (organic/nutrient dense), Luxury Foods (Various red meats, sea foods and herbs & spices), Terraforming Gases (produced by various macro-phyto organisms), water - liquid or ice (pure), H-Fuel (hydrogen, deuterium, and helium-3) and Zinc.

We are also interested in hazardous material removal. We can take a percentage of the amount or contracts offered.

What would you trade for some of these?

Sponson Industries LLC is the leading producer of both military- and civilian-grade optoelectronic equipment in the Federation with a current export permit. Contracts are available with greater specification.

The Ministry of Environmental Concerns may be contacted with interest in exotic animal sperm and ova.

Various manufacturing corporations have expressed interest in carrying out "waste removal" services. We would require more information.

To whomever it may concern,

The Bretonian Empire is offering contracts to all legally chartered domestic and foreign waste disposal companies for the removal of hazardous waste from Bretonian space. This hazardous waste may consist of any number of industrial byproducts which are, by their nature, hazardous to organic life or damaging to the environment. Radioactive waste is not placed under the same classification.

At present, hazardous waste materials are produced at an excessive rate, and the Bretonian government has promised clean-up measures, in an effort to improve quality of life for all citizens and to attempt to repair the natural environment of Planets Leeds and New London in particular.

Interested companies, individuals or government operations must comply with the Waste Disposal Act of 793 A.S. in that they must prove these waste products are disposed of or recycled in an appropriate, safe and environmentally friendly manner, that their legally registered ships are properly protected and shielded to prevent crew contamination or environmental leakage, that their ships are structurally stable and have complied with relevant maintenance checks, and that proper, fully comprehensive insurance is in place in the event that these safety protocols are breached. Waste products shall be stored in sealed containers prior to shipping, certified for safety by the Ministry of Environmental Affairs.

The Bretonian government is seeking to remove roughly three hundred million metric tons of industrial waste, and the present contract on offer has payment levels of Bc-500.00 per metric ton. Foreign ships shall receive priority access passes to the Alpha-Epsilon Jump Gate for the duration of their contractual obligations, allowing their swift entry and egress from Bretonian space. This contract is not exclusive, and may be undertaken by multiple organisations or individuals provided they meet the criteria above.

In regards to the trade of other products, the Bretonian Empire welcomes foreign corporations and the money they bring into Bretonian space, provided they abide by Bretonian law. So far as exportation goes, it is known to this Ministry that Ageira Technologies has expressed interest in marketing their Jump Gate systems to the Skiss Empire, while both they and BMM are seeking new markets for their computer systems.

It is also noted that the Skiss Empire is seeking 'information' - the Bretonian Empire might be willing to provide such information, if more clarity can be offered.

Sincerely,

J. Clarke

Trade & Commerce Minister Jessica Clarke

For all potential trade partners,

The percentage following each resource listed is how much of the yearly quotient of resources needed by the Technocracy was produced during the previous fiscal year. If the percentage is a decimal of the quotient, the number is rounded down to the nearest whole.

Only resources produced by the Technocracy for export and import are shown, all others are restricted by order of the Department of Foreign Affairs and Department of Resources. For questions regarding these restrictions, please contact Dr. Alexander Buckley or Dr. Kenneth Lyons. This list will be updated as more resources are made available on the galactic market. As of current, the list regarding import and export services is still under construction.

Key and Listing:

Red represents a dire or immediate need.
Mauve represents an extreme or high level of demand. Usually these resources have lucrative marketing value.
Cyan represents a moderate-low level of demand and moderate marketable value.
Orange represents a minor or moderate excess, with small amounts of exportation; most of the excess is placed in surplus warehouses for when it will be needed and thus is not available to the rest of the galactic community.
Green represents a mass excess, exportation is common and prices are relatively cheap. Only a small percentage of these resources are stockpiled, in the event of a dire national emergency.
