INTRODUCTION : A SUMMARY OF ANDREASS

The Empire of Andreass is a devout nation, remarkable for its complete lack of prisons. Its hard-nosed population of 10 million are fiercely patriotic and enjoy great social equality; they tend to view other, more capitalist countries as somewhat immoral and corrupt.

It is difficult to tell where the omnipresent government stops and the rest of society begins, but it juggles the competing demands of Social Welfare, Religion & Spirituality, and Education. The average income tax rate is 45%, but much higher for the wealthy. Private enterprise is illegal, but for those in the know there is a slick and highly efficient black market in Gambling.

Voting is compulsory, Animal Liberationists are regularly jailed, nudity is frowned upon, and young children are regularly seen wagering pocket money at blackjack tables. Crime is relatively low. Andreass's national animal is the orangutan, which frolics freely in the nation's many lush forests, and its currency is the gold allizche.

HISTORY

The Birth of Andreass

Since immemorial times, the Javanese and Sundanese tribes inhabit Andreian Islands. However, by the 17th century German, Russian and French settlers arrive on the islands, inciting conflicts with the natives before finally the islands become a colony. The situation continued until the beginning of the 20th century, when the colonists unite with the natives to revolt and declare their independence in 29 April, 1928 as The Republic of Andreass. The leader of the revolt, Janus von Brauven, emerged as the first president.

The Republican Era

Janus reigned for an extended ten year term (a term is five years according to the constitution) because of economical instability. After the economy revived from the revolution, Janus called for an election and his vice-president, a Javanese woman named Arsitawati, was elected as the second president and the first female president. But her reign sparked ire both to the conservative Javanese believing that no woman can ever be a leader, and the unruly French enraged at the fact that a native woman become president. In 1 July 1942, the radical French organization Le Front Révolutionnaire (LFR) staged a failed coup (Known as the July Movement). Most of the members were trialed and executed, and Arsitawati declared the state of national emergency and put elections to halt "until stability reigns again" (From her speech on the national radio, 6 July 1942). However in 14 May 1945, the LFR staged another coup, this time a successful one led by Philippe Levin, a general of the Andreian Army. The LFR's banner was dark red, so the coup is famous as The Red Banner Coup. The coup itself was bloodless.

However, most of the army consists of loyal Javanese and Sundanese troops, and Philippe Levin was killed just three days in office surrounded by the loyal army. The army restored order and elected Janus von Brauven back for his second term. However, the already aging president's health is fragile at best, and he died just one year in office. His vice-president (who is also his own wife) Marie von Brauven replaced him, but was removed by a bloody coup in 22 March, 1947 (The Black March Movement) by an army regiment led by Siegmund von Hamilton. He declared himself President-for-Life and ruled with an iron fist until his death on 1958.

By the time, the main corporations controlling Andreian economy made a Council to elect the new President, revise the law (especially the political laws) and regain stability lost in the turbulent times of Siegmund's dictatorship. Their work finished in two years, and Iskandar Ginanjar from the Prosperity Party (the corporate controlled one) was elected as the nation's seventh president in 1960. Unfortunately for the corporates, In his second term he defected to the Socialist Party, the Prosperity Party's main rival. He then enacted the First Social Bill of Reformation. He was succeeded by Ali Akbar Sumantri, also from the Socialist Party. He made reforms, establishing the metropolitan system and reorganize the provinces of Andreass.

However, the Prosperity Party regain control and Sugito became president. He canceled most of the bill, and as the result lost popularity among the masses. The Socialists took control once again, and Fyodor Nabilevsky replaced Sugito as president. He enacted further reforms, but all of it were canceled by the next president, Werner von Monterrey. He reigned for two terms, but his second term election was full of frauds and money politics. After his presidency, Li Ji took power. He bribed the parliament to declare him President-for-Life. This act enraged the population, already disillusioned from high levels of poverty and corruption. Li Ji also unable to stop the insurgent Andreian Movement for Freedom (AMF) and from 1999 a bloody civil war ensued, with casualties more than 1 million. Li Ji was assassinated in 2000 by an AMF member, but the Corporate Council took over as temporary Head of State. In 2001, the AMF finally gained momentum after victory in the Battle of Cerujvan Plains, and overthrown the capitalist government.

The Imperial-Socialist Era

The Leader of the AMF, Anton von Brignote, took power as temporary President. He disbanded all political parties and made 3 new parties : the AMF, the Labor Party, and the Democratic Party. He reformed the government, making it very much socialistic though retaining the democratic qualities. In 2004, the reformation (and the temporary Presidency) was finished, and Anton took office as the first Secretary General of the growing nation.

GEOGRAPHY

The Empire of Andreass is located on the Andreian Islands, which comprises of 10 vast islands. The largest isle is the Levin Island, while the smallest is the Karimun Island. The total area of Andreass is 15,023,322.12 sq km. The terrain of Andreass is mostly comprised of highlands filled with rainforest, with Candradimuka Mountain (5672 m) in Levin Island as its highest peak. The main rivers are the Bjornolit (Levin Island), Nebekut (Chukot Island) and Bengawan (Daha Island).

Andreass has a tropical climate, with temperatures usually between 24 C and 31 C. Snowfall never occurs except in the Nirwanawijaya Mountains in Levin Island. Because of the hard-blowing western wind, the five islands on the west generally receives more rainfall than the other five islands. Andreass itself is rich of widely ranged natural resources, among those are Tin, Oil, Sugar and Gold. The natural resources, especially Oil, bring considerable wealth to the Andreian citizen and the nation itself.

However, Andreass is not free of natural hazards. Many volcanoes especially in the smaller islands are active and dangerous. In addition, Karimun Island and Jalak Island are prone to earthquakes, though not tsunamis.
