Alaceans Pound Stanley as RAS Pulls Back
Image
A tower in Stanley stands ablaze with the surrounding
cityscape following Alacean bombardment.

Alacean bombers have begun to open up a large scale bombing campaign in the Brenningfeldic capital of Stanley following the destruction of several key RAS installations around the territory from several days' worth of air combat.

The bombings have been said to be indiscriminate, and target both civilian and military sectors and installations in the city. The northern, predominantly German district has been left relatively untouched.

As well the Royal Air Service officially pulled its personnel and equipment out of Brenningfeld, retreating on depleting fuel reserves to Clandonian South Haven or Questaria proper, and forsaking local forces and military regulars to proper air cover.

"There is not much else we can do," General Peter MacMillan said at a press conference earlier today in Laurana, "We've been fighting the Alaceans in the skies for almost four days now, and we have lost too many aircraft and personnel as well as numerous airfields to enemy action. Our best option now is to regroup what assets we have in a safe staging area and assess the situation from there. If our forces can fight on for Questaria, then so be it, they will fight on for Questaria."

All of this as Alacean troops storm across the countryside towards Stanley. At the rate they are moving, it is likely they will reach the capital within four to six days. Cravanian forces and local militias are engaged in a fighting retreat to the fortified city, where it is rumored that locals have stocked up enough supplies to withstand a siege for upwards of a month.

"Time is of the essence," Governor Chaucley, the presiding political figure over Brenningfeld said from a bunker beneath the city in a private interview, "and the sooner reinforcements can get here, from anyone who wants to help, the sooner we can evacuate the rest of the civilian population."

Civilians who had not yet signed up for a militia and are still in the territory have mostly retreated to the capital, especially after reports of Alacean troops targeting villages to ensure they meet no resistance. Most civilians, however, had managed to take flight to surrounding areas on chartered aircraft from Stanley International. An estimated one million refugees entered Questers following the rise of tensions and the Alacean military buildup at the border, in addition to the at least one and a half million elsewhere, particularly Northford and Carpanthium.

The damage done by bombing in Stanley thusfar is minimal compared to what it very well may become: an estimated twenty civilians and thirty military and para-military personnel have been killed with an added seventy injuries. The bombing, however, can only get worse from there without the Royal Air Service to contest the skies over Stanley.

Stick with the CBN as the situation develops, for constant coverage, updates, and facts.

BREAKING NEWS: Nuclear Exchange Occurs Between Cravan and Alacea
Image
A low quality screenshot from footage recorded
on a Clandonian merchant vessel in
the Strobovian Strait displays a mushroom cloud
over the horizon at the Alacean port city of Aalen.

Reports are currently sketchy and unconfirmed, however sources declare that a small nuclear exchange between Alacea and Cravan, initiated by Alacea, occurred today between the hours of 10:00hrs and 13:00hrs local time.

Contact was lost with our Millingston service branch at approximately 10:06 local time this morning, in concert with readings currently publicly released by RAS Spring Mountain concerning the detonation of a nuclear device nearby. The device, which appeared to have been launched via cruise missile from a submarine, is currently being rated between the twenty and twenty-five kiloton range. A similar device was detonated over the heavily fortified Stanley at approximately 10:12. Reports from Stanley are further unconfirmed.

Because of the nature of the attack, a Cravanian response came relatively slowly, however considerably more potent than the initial Alacean attack according to multiple sources. At approximately 12:25hrs local time, three nuclear devices deployed by aircraft were launched at the southern Alacean cities of Aalen, Jena, and Bielefeld. The former two are among the largest and most considerable of Alacean industrial centers. No official word on destruction has been reported, however initial figures estimate irreversible damage may have been done to the Alacean industrial infrastructure. The devices launched by Cravanian aircraft have been estimated to be in the high twenty to perhaps thirty kiloton range.

During the Cravanian counter-attack, First minister Annadale announced that she had conferred with the Queen, and that tomorrow a new government would be formed. She also declared that, after being informed of the attack's success by an aide at the podium, further nuclear attacks would result in the "complete destruction of the Alacean island of Vessia." The Alacean government has yet to respond.

As this very important story develops, we will bring updates as soon as they occur. Tune into CBN-1, where regularly scheduled programming has been temporarily halted during this crisis, and be sure to see the front page of the CBN website on how to enable mobile alerts.

BREAKING NEWS: HMG Dissolves; New Government Unknown
Image
Lady Annadale seen exiting the House of
Commons following an emergency session
called by HM The Queen.

It was announced during an emergency session of the House of Commons today that Her Majesty's Government, under the direction of First Minister Annadale, is being dissolved today following Her Majesty's 'loss of confidence' in the First Minister. According to Lady Annadale, however, her removal from office is her choice.

“Indeed, I have conferred with Her Majesty, and following my actions earlier today, of which I am sorrowful, however they have yet to come to fruition, she has announced that she has lost faith in me. And I, I must say, influenced that decision greatly, for I informed her that I had lost faith in myself.”

The 'actions' to which she refers is specifically the approval of a measure which allows the military to respond appropriately to any and all WMD attacks, and to escalate of its own accord without cabinet oversight. Even so, supporters were out in force today after her speech in the Commons at a demonstration at Hancock Square, which the First Minister's office overlooks.

"We sincerely believe she did the right thing," says Lauranite Fred Wilson, "Annadale has been a fantastic premier throughout her service, and so long as she remains in Parliament her work is fantastic for the NLP's cause."

Labour, however, has other thoughts. Annadale announced that, on her recommendation, the Queen will be ordering her successor to create a coaltion War Cabinet. The War Cabinet, however, would consist only of Conservatives and Liberals, leaving Labour in the dust.

"This is an outrage," says Labour MP Regina Quint, "And I and my colleagues demand that all parties have the opportunity to be represented in this wartime cabinet. If you want to display Cravannic unity, you best represent us all!"

Labour's cries, however, fall on deaf ears, as the two largest parties, which often agree on many issues, particularly economic, can maintain their respective dominance with or without a coalition government. Many see the move of including Conservatives in a coalition as an attempt to include more hawks in the War Cabinet, a measure many understand well as the nation prepares for all out war against the Alaceans following today's earlier nuclear exchange.

CBN will update further when more details of this new government become available. Until that time, tune into CBN on your local channels, or subscribe to CBN's online news feed.

New Government Formed; Cartwright Kisses Hands
Image
Sir Cartwright, left, posed with several
constituents early last week.

Earlier this morning, Sir Robert Cartwright made his first address to Parliament concerning his sudden ascent to the premiership. Cartwright, often considered a "Liberal In Name Only," often served as the anti-thesis to Lady Annadale's previous government on several issues, mostly revolving around foreign affairs. Many members of the House often called him, humourously, "Leader of Her Majesty's Loyal (Liberal) Opposition" considering his party affiliation was one in the same with Lady Annadale.

His appointment, however, was not entirely a surprise: considering the looming prospects of war, Cartwright was often touted as the majority's leader of the hawk aspect of the New Liberal Party, and as such his appointment makes fairly good sense considering the sway he holds with both Liberals and Conservatives. Cartwright did, however point out how he had gone against Her Majesty's request to form a coalition between the Liberals and the Conservatives.

"I have, however, gone against Her Majesty's specific request," Cartwright mentioned in his address, "[...] Members of my own Liberal Party, as well as the Conservatives, and representatives from Labour, and even members from the Royalists have been among those summoned to serve in this Cabinet of War."

Cartwright then went on to illustrate the hardships ahead of the nation, and how his ultimate goal is victory on all fronts. A full transcript of his speech may be read here.

Cartwright's government, approved by Her Majesty, is reported to consist of four different parties, however many commentators have noted that the majority of the listing consists of liberals, many of them from the previous administration. A listing of the cabinet reads as such, with names of members of the previous government in gold:

First Minister/First Lord of the Treasury - Robert Cartwright (LIB)
Chancellor of the Exchequer/Second Lord of the Treasury - Jonathon Williams (LIB)
Lord President of the Council/First Secretary of State - Elizabeth Annadale (LIB)
Lord Chancellor - Ethan Arquette (LIB)
Lord Privy Seal/Leader of the House of Commons - Jack Esquire (LIB)
First Lord of the Judiciary - Andrew Caulford (LIB)
Secretary of the Foreign Office - Leroy Webbings (LIB)
Secretary of the Home Office - James Montgomery (CON)
Secretary of War - Jeffrey Keene (CON)
Director of Security - Jennifer Halsey (IND) [non-member of Parliament]
Secretary of State for Camden - Peter Grant (LIB)
Secretary of State for Meddlesworth - David Castfield (LIB)
Secretary of State for Elrith - Timothy Prescott (CON)
Secretary of State for Arran - Moira O'Sullivan (LAB)
Secretary of State for Callander - Liam Conner (CON)
Secretary of State for the Overseas Dependencies - Alfred Longsfellow (CON)
Secretary of State for Karainian Affairs - David Dubois (LIB)
Secretary of State for Health and Human Affairs - Alice Copper (LAB)
Secretary of State for Transportation - Alexander Hayes (LIB)
Secretary of State for Energy - Frederick Pleasant (LIB)
Secretary of State for Agriculture - Samantha Simmons (LIB)
Secretary of State for Commerce - Ashley Cunningham (LIB)
Secretary of State for Culture, Media, and Sport - Reilly Bryant (RP)
Secretary of State for Education - Brian Lemming (LIB)
Minister without portfolio (Party Leader) - Geoffrey Aliston (CON)
Minister without portfolio (Party Leader) - Timothy Grant (LAB)

A more exclusive "war cabinet" composed of seven to ten people is also rumoured to exist, however no official word on such has been released yet.

BREAKING NEWS: Assemblyman Murdered on the Floor
ImageImage
An armed response unit looks on as Assemblyman
Carraway's body is removed from the scene.

Tragedy struck the Citizens' Assembly in Aurde at noon-thirty today following a heated debate which erupted into an all out brawl amongst the members of the Assembly.

The instigator of the brawl in question, Assemblyman Armand Garrus of Civray, caused chaos on the floor of the Assembly when he lunged at and assaulted his counterpart, Jonathon Carraway of Bladstone Island. The former, being a member of the Aurde independence movement, quite commonly sparred with Carraway, who was a longtime member of the Conservative Party and represented the largely English-speaking populace of Bladstone Island. Garrus' assault resulted in a battle royale erupting between members of his bloc, "le Partie," against a combined coalition of Liberals and the more numerous Conservatives. The forty member assembly saw nearly three minutes of violence without the guards intervening, until Garrus wrestled Carraway to the floor and unsheathed a concealed pistol. Carraway was shot once, and pronounced dead at the scene by crews following the incident.

After killing Carraway, Garrus turned his attention to Speaker of the Assembly Alphonse de Sade. de Sade was able to take cover behind the thick Speaker's podium as Garrus opened fire. Three of his four rapid shots struck the podium, but none entirely penetrated. Garrus was quickly subdued by an armed guard, and was later rushed to the hospital where he was pronounced dead at 13:04. Members of Garrus' "le Partie" have been detained for instigating the brawl, however other members of the Assembly involved will likely be censured.

Memorial services are being planned by Carraway's family, and Governor General Henry Ediths issued an official week of mourning following the incident. Ediths, who was a personal friend of Carraway, subsequently ordered all flags displayed on public property to be lowered to half-staff in his honour. Carraway, as a military veteran, is entitled to a military burial at a venue of his family's choice.
