1st Verse

We've fought through the ages,
We've thwarted invasions,
Your shimmering spires will forever endure!
Your prairies and mountains,
Your streams and your oceans
Comprise all your beauty, eternal and pure!

Chorus
Long may your glorious banner wave!
Long live your people, just and brave!
Long live Zanannia, united and free!
God's justice reigns supreme and true!
'Til the end we will remain with you!
The mightiest kingdom the world's ever seen!

2nd Verse

We strive for your safety,
Your wisdom and freedom!
From ocean to ocean, with undying love!
In old days we labored,
We bled for our wages!
Then burst forth in glory, our lib'rated dove!

The world smiles upon you,
Your people adore you!
Our God, may He shelter you under His wings!

Capital City:
The capital of Zanannia, Ambergrove, is the apex of Zanannian technology, progress, and pride. Its skyscrapers can be seen for up to 50 miles away as you approach on land. Surrounding it (in some places up to 300 miles out) are the Japosyian wheat fields. The Japosyian wheat that grows here is always in bloom once it reaches its full growing point, and is what makes Zanannia famous for its never-ending food supplies and world-renown pastries and baked goods. The city itself is laid out in concentric circles, each circle having a different purpose. There are 8 layers, the outermost layer being 15 city blocks (400 by 400 ft. per block) thick and getting thinner near the center. The 3 outermost layers are basically giant suburbs, used for residential areas and tend to be home to Ambergrove's government employees and regular citizens. The 4th layer is home to most of Ambergrove's banking district. This is where Bank of Zanannia, Benevolence Bank, and Amegy Finances, along with other major financial powerhouses in Zanannia keep their national headquarters. The 5th layer is the Historic District, where citizens can view early Zanannian settler homesteads, take tours of Zanannian art galleries, and go to museums to learn about Zanannian technological and scientific advances. The west half of the 6th layer is the Equity District, with the main Tribunal judicial court building that faces due east, towards the sunrise, being the centerpiece of the district. The east half of the 6th layer is the Parliamentary District, where Parliament meets and makes laws in the House of Glorious Assembly. The 7th layer is the Royal District, which in reality, only encompasses half of its allotted area. This is where the Palace of the Sun can be found, where the Royal Family calls home. The other half of the 7th layer, along with the final circle of the city, is the Apogee, the center of the city which also serves as the Royal Cemetery, where all rulers of Zanannia are buried, and the Grand Promenade, which serves as the terminus of all major city parades and processions. Ambergrove is a beautiful city and all who visit it come back with many praises. It serves as a beacon of prosperity to the world, showing the world what Zanannia can accomplish.

Judicial System:
The Tribunal of Rectitude acts as the Zanannian Supreme Court. The Tribunal is the apex of the court system, with branches extending to the local level. The process of choosing a judge starts at birth. The children chosen are always orphans given to the JAC by orphanages from around Zanannia, and when the Zanannian government adopts them they are raised in the care of the Judicial Appointment Congress, or JAC. The JAC teaches the child everything about Zanannian law and the court system. Once they are 18 years old the child is brought before the JAC and their future is decided. If the child is found exceptionally gifted, they will become an intern to a judge, putting them on the fast track to becoming a judge. If they are average, or if their expertise lies in prosecuting, they will most likely become a prosecutor or some other lawyer position in the court system. If they are idle or disobedient, they are given a discharge and an option to either undergo remedial training or leave the JAC and live a normal life outside the judicial system. Committees made up of Parliament members that are selected by the King/Queen are in charge of keeping corruption and bribery in check, although this rarely happens. The Tribunal meets every day in the Tribunal building in the Equity District of Ambergrove.
Tribunal of Rectitude Building in Ambergrove, built in 1962. It also serves as the headquarters of the JAC.

Legislative System:
Parliament is a unicameral legislative body that has been set in place to pass laws for the nation. The First Parliament was put in place by Queen Stephanie I, also known as Stephanie the Great, the first ruler of what we know as Zanannia, to give the common people a say in governmental proceedings. Parliament has 135 seats, and the Prime Minister presides over all official Parliament meetings. A bill requires a simple majority from Parliament to pass to the desk of the PM, who confers with the King/Queen to make sure the bill is sound, then the PM signs it, making it a law. If the PM refuses to sign it, then the King/Queen has the option to override the PM's veto and sign the bill into law. Parliament meets every day in the Hall of Glorious Assembly, or the Chamber for short, in the Parliamentary District in Ambergrove.
The Chamber Building. The futuristic architectural masterpiece was completed in 2003.

The former Parliament building in 1989. Sadly, the building Parliament convened in since its inception and first meeting in 1630 was bombed by Malkakhian terrorists during the Wave Attacks in 1997. The ruins were gathered and placed in the Acts of Terrorism Park in the Historic District in downtown Ambergrove. They stay the way they were in tribute to those who died and gave their lives in those vicious acts of treachery.

Executive Branch:
Two divisions:
Prime Ministerial Arm:
The Prime Minister, or PM for short, heads this division of the executive branch. They act as the head of Parliament and they have most of the influence in legislative proceedings. However, the PM still ultimately answers to the King/Queen. The PM has an office in the Chamber building. The PM is elected every 5 years for a 5 year term. There is a 3 term limit that was set in place in 1980.
Royal Arm:
The King/Queen heads this division, and it is the king/queen who is considered the ultimate authority in Zanannia. They have the final say in basically everything. The can override a bill that was vetoed by the PM, and they have final say on whether or not to go to war. The King/Queen has two main places of work: one being in the residence of the royal family, the Palace of the Sun in downtown Ambergrove, and the other being in the Chamber building, also in Ambergrove. They use the latter office most of the time, with the former office being for more private/recreational/ceremonial purposes.

The Palace of the Sun.

Colonies:
The Lilac Island archipelago is a thousand miles off the coast of the Zanannian mainland. The Lilac Islands native tribal leaders voted amongst themselves when Zanannia signed the Carta Rouge, and by a vote of 3-1 the Islands voted to become a Protected Colony of Zanannia in 1881. The Islands became official Administrative Districts in 1944 with the passing of the Lilac Representation Act.

History:
Helo was founded as a Zanian colonial settlement in the year 1451. It quickly became a major port and point of interest because of its wonderful temperate climate and peaceful atmosphere. After Zanannia's independence, Helo was originally planned as the capital city, but that plan was scrapped in favor of building a brand new capital city with a specific layout that would better suit the government's requirements. The population of Helo seemingly reached a climax in 1709 with up to 2 million people living within city limits. However, after the Malkakhian War, people fled Helo for its proximity to the Malkakhian border. After the Northern Flight was over by 1784, people began to return, and by present day the population has grown to 6 million. The city has always been considered a major cultural center, with many artists and musicians, along with thespians and entertainers, hailing from Helo. The fact that the city has one of the most pristine beaches in all of Zanannia helps with tourism. The citizens of Helo love to stay in shape and attractive, and this contributes to the city's unusually high number of nightclubs and athletic clubs/public gyms.

Culture
The people of Zanannia have a rich and lively cultural background. Most of their art, music, and festivals/holidays stem from the ancient Zanian people on the other side of the globe. However, since Zanannia's unification in 1623, it has definitely taken on a culture of its own.

Music: Zanannia has always hosted a rich environment for all kinds of music. Some popular rock/alternative bands are The Googly Eyes Band, The First Names, and Make Me Kiss You. Famous rap artists include Boom Daddy, Heybaby Gurlz, and Endgame. Popular pop artists have their own big names, including Baroness, $@mEXY, Marc Grassroot, and ******(the artist formerly known as Violet).

Art:
Here are some examples of early Zanannian art around the 1700-1800s:

Architecture:
As previously stated, Zanannia underwent a permanent transformation after the Great Civil War. Les Arts Decoratifs, or Art Deco for short, quickly dominated all cultural aspects of Zanannia, as the opulent styles reflected the attitude of Zanannians after the monarchy's victory over the Malkakhian communists. Often considered the official beginning of the Art Deco era was the unveiling of the Helo Illyvio Banking Tower, shown here:

Art Deco continues to be a popular style among most buildings. Some more examples:

September 19, 1766- April 7, 1782: Queen Marie II
April 7, 1782- October 24, 1799: King Marcel II

Historical Timeline

pre-1430: An uninhabited continent is explored by Zanian explorers and, after much deliberation, Zania, a globally dominant absolute monarchy on the other side of the world, decides to colonize the new continent and name it Zanannia (or "Little Zania").
1430: Zanians settle Zanannian mainland. Colonization is widespread, successful, and prosperous.
1555: Zania is destroyed in the Fringian Wars, Zanannia is granted autonomy by Fringia, the victorious nation.
April 7, 1623: After protests from the people, Fringia grants Zanannia full independence.
August 23, 1623: Zanannia unites as a constitutional monarchy, the first ruler is Queen Stephanie the Great (1623-57).
December 6, 1630: Parliament convenes for the first time
June 12, 1657: Stephanie the Great dies and her son becomes first king, Jeremie I (1657-71)
October 20, 1671: Jeremie dies, brother Renaud (1671-1700) ascends the throne.
September 1, 1700: Renaud dies, daughter Genevieve I (1700-1713) becomes queen.
1705: Lilac Islands are discovered and the natives are hostile. Queen Genevieve decides not to colonize them.
February 1713: Under pressure from Parliament, Genevieve decides to travel to Lilac Islands and talk to tribal leaders.
June 1713: Genevieve and the tribal leaders sign a non-aggression pact, which allows the coexistence of Zanannians and Lilac Islanders. Limited colonization is allowed. Jyaporta becomes the first Zanannian colony on Lilac Island.
July 1713: Genevieve, upon arriving safely back to Ambergrove, contracts malaria from mosquito bites suffered on Lilac Island.
August 8, 1713: Genevieve I dies of malaria, her sister Odette (1713-1725) becomes queen.
November 27, 1716: Assemblymen from the Administrative District of Malkakhia, the northernmost district of Zanannia, put forth in Parliament the Malkakhio-Aeocyptan Amalgamation Bill, which if passed would merge the two Admin-Districts. Parliament vehemently rejected the bill, with Queen Odette calling it "a horrible expansionistic act, put forth by fools..."
November 30, 1716: Malkakhia, in response, withdraws its delegates from Parliament and requests complete autonomy.
December 3, 1716: Parliament votes unanimously to deny Malkakhia full autonomy, citing outrageous objections from all assemblymen, especially those from Aeocypta, who were offended by the Malkakhian attempts to absorb their district.
December 14, 1716: Riots and widespread violence in Malkakhia forces Queen Odette to send in royal troops.
December 16, 1716: Shots ring out in Brychozis, the district capital of Malkakhia, as royal troops fire into an angry crowd of protestors. The awful affair, later known as Blood Red Street Day, will be used by Malkakhians as evidence of monarchic cruelty towards them. Five hundred protestors and 24 soldiers are killed.
December 17, 1716: A group of Malkakhian political figures meet with other influential rebellious leaders, and together they form the Malkakhian Republic on this day. They declare Malkakhia an independent nation, and proclaim that all royal troops must leave immediately. This government is immediately popularly supported in Malkakhia, with people dancing in the streets to celebrate the "end of aristocratic oppression".
December 19, 1716: Parliament convenes and declares war on this rebel government. Queen Odette attends the session and gives a famous speech voicing her determination to quell the rebellion. Troops are deployed immediately, and the Malkakhian War begins.
December 1716 - June 1717: Royal troops, lacking good leadership/discipline, lay waste to Malkakhia, slaughtering civilians and rebel soldiers alike. The resistance leaders hole themselves up in the fortress of Sibo, outside the city of Kontadinov.
July 2, 1717: With the rest of Malkakhia under royal control, all forces are directed to lay siege to Sibo.
July 4, 1717: The Siege of Sibo begins.
November 27, 1717: Royal soldiers are finally able to penetrate the fortifications around Sibo. Inside, they find that all 5000 of the rebel leaders have died of starvation, save one man, who had resorted to cannibalism to stay alive. He committed suicide by running himself onto his sword before soldiers could detain him.
December 1, 1717: The Malkakhian War ends. Odette loses the favor of the people because the war is a Pyrrhic victory.
January 1, 1718: Martial law is imposed in Malkakhia for 60 years during a period of reconstruction. The Malkakhians, whose homes lie in ruins, never forgive the monarchy for laying waste to their land.
August 23, 1723: A year-long centennial celebration begins in Ambergrove to mark the first century of Zanannian independence. Queen Odette gives the opening address, and delivers the message with such grace and sincerity that the people begin to call her "Odette the Composed". This nickname will stick. With this moniker Odette regains the respect and adoration of her people.
May 30, 1725: Queen Odette falls down a flight of stairs and breaks her back. She dies 6 hours later. Her son, Marcel, becomes king.
February 8, 1731: Marcel dies without an heir, and since he has no siblings, the crown passes to Odette's sister Marie I (1731-1733)
December 11, 1733: Marie dies, her son Leon (1733-1738) ascends the throne
June 12, 1736: Leon, being of unsound mind, attempts to send troops to the Arctic unknown in order "to catch me some SHRIMPIES!" At the behest of Parliament, his family, and most everyone else, he becomes a recluse in the palace, and his grandson Gustav takes on his responsibilities.
July 17, 1738: Leon hangs himself. Since Leon's only son died in a tragic equestrian accident, his grandson Gustav (1738-1766), who has been king in everything but name for the past two years, becomes king of Zanannia. His coronation was also his 17th birthday. He is the youngest reigning monarch to date.
August 4, 1739: Gustav proposes to Parliament his "Grand Plan". In it, he outlines his goals, ambitions, and how he intends to make them reality. The Plan passes through unanimously. Over the 28 years of his reign, Gustav tripled the sizes of the economy and the military. People were so inspired by his determination and willpower that he carries to this day the name "Gustav the Grand".
September 19, 1766: Gustav dies, his daughter Marie II (1766-1782) becomes the queen.
January 1, 1778: Martial law is finally lifted from the region of Malkakhia.
April 7, 1782: Marie II dies, her son Marcel II (1782-1799) ascends the throne.
February 27, 1788: Marcel II supports a proposal by Assemblyman Joseph Prevost from Joduscus to establish the Judicial Appointment Congress, or JAC. The bill is controversial, at the very least. Debate ensues and lasts for nearly 6 months.
August 5, 1788: After much deliberation, ugly insults, yelling matches, and nearly violent protests, Parliament approves the formation of the JAC by a vote of 71-64. Those 27 assemblymen vehemently opposed to the measure attempt to resign their Parliamentary appointments. By a vote of 107-28 Parliament refuses to accept their letters of resignation. Political unrest begins to grow, particularly in the regions of Malkakhia (who do not oppose the JAC issue necessarily but were rather looking for a catalyst to spark another rebellion), Eloryas Cho, and Dectarium. Their opposition towards the issue stems from predisposed discrimination towards orphans, who are deemed by the extremely wealthy and educated to be unworthy of entry into society, much less given control over the law of Zanannia.
October 29, 1788: After much debate, King Marcel II gives a public speech walking them through his argument to his logical conclusion that orphans are like other people, except abandoned and in need of love and affection. The balance of opinion swings drastically in favor of the JAC bill, protests start to wane, and the number of adoptions triple. This speech is still marked as one of the most influential speeches ever given by a monarch.

I support a healthy mixture of faith and logical reasoning. I realize that may mean something different to you, but I really don't care. I can be dissuaded through a logical argument. I'm fun to be around, but if you annoy me I will cut you.
Just kidding, I don't care as long as you aren't rude... :)

Thank you very much! The history is still very much a work in progress, but I am quite proud of it if I do say so myself. :)

Great job man, almost makes me want to make one for myself.

I am a very loose parliamentary monarchy. The only thing monarchic about the royal family is that the line of succession is hereditary. other than that, they're kind of superfluous.

If you sign up, log on to the forums, go down to "Mapmaking Requests", and follow all their guidelines you should get a very competent person to make a map for you.
