Ibàsira is a nation located in the northern hemisphere, it borders the Ibàso sea to the north and west and borders as of yet unclaimed territory to the south and east. Ibàsira is very much isolated from the rest of the world. Seperated from the closest other country by thousands of kilometers of unclaimed territory. Ibàsira can be roughly divided into 4 zones. The south-western area is dominated by swamplands known as the Śolam swamplands, it borders the Sodol river to the east, this river enters Ibàsira from the south. the north-western area is mostly low-lying and heavily forested, the Opal forest, the nation's largest forest is located in the north-west. The Ilimùrr river flows through this land and into the Ibàso sea, the Sodol river also merges with the Ilimùrr river here. The north-eastern area is a coastal area with many small streams and rivers, the ground is mostly made of clay and there's a large forest located there known as the Itarsk forest. The south-eastern area is dominated by a mountain range called the Klemòrr mountains. This is the place where the Ilimùrr river originates from. The southern-most areas of these mountains are covered by snow year-round, this area also has the tallest mountain of Ibàsira, Idvild peak, 4122 meters tall. It is located close to the south-eastern border. The climate of Ibàsira is maritime in the north and the south-west while the south-east is dominated by an alpine climate. The climate of some of the soutern parts of Śolam is close to a mediterranean climate.

HISTORY

Postby Ibasira » Fri Nov 12, 2010 11:47 am

Before 1109 the Ibàsiran land was divided into 8 smaller kingdoms known as iktis, each of them were ruled by an Iktikorr. Most of these kingdoms were relatively big except for the area that makes up modern day province iktijožaz, this area was divided into hundreds of tiny lordships. In an attempt to merge these tiny lordships into one big ikti, Julos Emìkodzàk, a philosopher and lord of a small area that now makes up the city of Adzar wrote a book on his views on the tiny lordships. He criticized the system, claiming that it was ineffective, these tiny lordships could not survive with so little land and so little people. In his book he also wrote about his dreams of all these lordships becoming part of a larger and much stronger kingdom that could stand against the other larger surrounding countries. A lot of the other lords agreed with the idea, they knew too that their small lordships alone could not stand against the larger nations surrounding them. On August the 17th, 1109, hundreds of lords signed a treaty to merge their lordships. Julos Emìkodzàk then became known as the first iktikorr of the Ikti of Jožaz.

Their new land prospered, trade between what was once a divided land opened up more and the Ikti of Jožaz became a major economic power due to their favorable position, the Ilimùrr river, the largest river in Ibàsira, flew through the heart of their lands. The big economic boost the Ikti of Jožaz had would anger the surrounding nations, they could not compete with this new economic power so in an attempt to save their own market, the Ikti of Parux set up a blockade against Jožazian trade ships. The Ikti of Parux controlled the mouth of the Ilimùrr river and could stop any ships from trying to trade with the other nations. The Ikti of Jožaz declared war on the Ikti of Parux for their actions. On September 20th, 1115 the Ikti of Jožaz defeats the Ikti of Parux, Parux had to surrender all their land to the Ikti of Jožaz.

The Ikti of Jožaz, now controlling the mouth of the Ilimùrr river, secured their position as the biggest economic power in the entire continent. The people from the ikti of Parux were oppressed, their beliefs were a lot different from the religion the Jožazians followed. September 24th, 1115 became the earliest known time that slavery was practised in Jožaz. A practise which would later become somewhat regulated by the law but would always remain as a longlasting tradition of Ibàsira.

The Ikti of Madzuke, another land located to the west of Jožaz and bordering a large portion of the Ilimùrr river declared war on Jožaz. They used to be allies with the Ikti of Parux and had many trade agreements, but when Jožaz took control over the Ilimùrr river, Madzuke was forced to adjust to the trade rules of the Ikti of Jožaz. Madzukian troops immediately attacked the north in an attempt to secure the mouth of the river. They faced heavy resistance from the strong Jožazian troops and were quickly pushed back. The Jožazian troops continued to chase the retreating soldiers well into Madzuke, and so the tables were turned, Madzuke found itself on the defending side while the Ikti of Jožaz was on the attacking side. Jožazian warships maintained an eastern front at the Ilimùrr river while footsoldiers pushed further from the north. Another fleet of warships sailed to the capital of Madzuke, which was located on the coastline and held it under siege while the northern front continued to push. Madzuke was forced to surrender and they too had to give up all their lands to Jožaz.

As Jožaz grew in power, so did the ego of its people. In 1132 Julos Emìkodzàk died, his son Danjelo Emìkodzàk became the new leader of Jožaz. Danjelo was a fierce nationalist. With his new position as the ruler of Jožaz he spent much tax money on the military. Over the course of 8 years he built up a great army to try and conquer the eastern lands to instate the Jožazian religion and culture on them. On July 20th, 1140, Jožaz declared war on the Ikti of Mùdarr, after which their allies, Òlser and Ložapùr-Olso immediately aided Mùdarr in the war against Jožaz. But even then, they did not have enough soldiers to overpower Jožaz. The two sides were equally strong and any advances were extremely slow. It took Jožaz 59 years to finally conquer the eastern lands, it left the army, which Danjelo built up in 8 years almost completely destroyed. In 1200 Ložapùr-Olso were split into 2 seperate provinces.

Jožaz was left unable to continue military conquest for more than a century, yet finally, on March 12th, 1358, Jožaz declared war on the last other ikti left, the Ikti of Śolam. The Ikti of Śolam ws a nation almost entirely covered by swamplands, they had an army but it was a very weak one. They surrendered after just 8 days. After Jožaz had managed to take over all the other Iktis it was renamed the Kingdom of 8 United Iktis.

In 1367 a large slave uprising occured in Adzar, hundreds of slaves tried to rebel against the empire. They murdered, destroyed and burned all in their path. The army was immediately sent to stop the uprising. This eventually resulted in the deaths of 341 slaves, 41 citizens and 2 soldiers. More than 20 houses were destroyed, burned to the ground. This uprising shocked the entire nation, but also inspired the citizens in some of the outlying territories to rise against the kingdom. Eventually, the 3 most outlying Iktis, Śolam, Ložapùr and Olso started to rebel against the government in 1401. This forced the kingdom to fight on 2 fronts, the south-west fron and the south-east front. Many ordinary citizens had to be conscripted. The rebels did not have a professional army, the royal army answered to the king alone and most did not side with the rebels. The resistance in Śolam was put down in 1406, allowing the army to focus all their attention on the south-eastern front. The resistance in the south-east was put down 4 years later in 1410.

In 1712, an explorer who was born in Adzar, Hàseliro Emìdamaso set sail to the north in search of new land, he discovered a large island group to the north. When word of the discovery arrived back in the kingdom, the at that time ruling king, King Esto Emìfàrrkwa, claimed the land as his own immediately, disregarding the indegenous people who lived there. He renamed his land the Empire of Ibàsira, which means Land of the Sea, and became the first emperor of Ibàsira. As colonization continued, first contact was made with non-human sapient species in another large island to the north which was then named Ibàso-Kerrok. These non-human sapient species were then shipped back to Ibàsira as slaves. Many of the slaves had to work in the coal mines or on farms. As such, many of them were originally shipped to the city of Adzar where many coal mines were located.

In 1728, the natives of Ibàso-Kerrok rose up against the Empire. The natives were very well adjusted to the cold climate of their land, the Ibàsirans were not. They were extremely disadvantaged in combat because of that and were forced to retreat in 1730. The shipments of non-human slaves stopped but those who were already enslaved were never set free and remained in Ibàsira.

in 1945 the slavery laws for non-human sapient species were adjusted to the same standards as humans, which stated that only those who do not follow the Bàtiskar religion, have done criminal deeds may be enslaved. It also stated that a father can enslave his own children if he wants to, regardless of the religion a child follows or if he hasn't committed any crimes as long as the father does not enslave more than half of his children or more than 3. Not many Non-human sapient species were set free after these adjustments, only 5% of the non-human sapient species were set free. Presently, non-human sapient species are still discriminated by people (mostly conservatives do so) and only 10.3% of the non-human sapient species within Ibàsira are not enslaved, nontheless, they are equal by law but their integration process is still going very slow.

Since the beginning of the 21st century a strong anti-monarchist mentality started to spread among the citizens, a terrorist organization, the anti-monarchist movement, who's goal it is to abolish the current Ibàsiran government was founded in the early 00's, the organization grew rapidly over the course of 5 years and posed a severe threat to the nation from within. The Ibàsiran military frequently raided terrorist hideouts, trying to capture key members of the terrorist organization, however, they never were succesful, the leaders were clearly well informed of the military operations and stayed one step ahead of the military, always escaping terrorist hideouts before they were raided. In 2003 the anti-monarchist movement attempted to capture a high-ranking officer of the Ibàsiran air force, Captain Franšo Emìtelas was in his home in Malti when 4 terrorists kicked down his door and attempted to take him hostage. Franšo Emìtelas, having little to defend himself, grabbed his colt .45 and opened fire, he managed to kill the 4 terrorists but was shot twice and was hospitalized. But the message was clear, the anti-monarchist movement was a dangerous organization and they wanted to let the world know it.

In 2007, the anti-monarchist movement struck again, when a squad was on patrol in the opal forest they were ambushed by terrorists. The two sides exchanged fire but all but one of the soldiers were killed in this firefight. The sole survivor, Ìzi Emìlàndwìst, was captured by the terrorists and taken to their hideout, when people did not hear of him nor his squad for a week their status became MIA untill a few days later when another patrol found the bodies of the squad members who were killed in the firefight, only Ìzi Emìlàndwìst remained MIA. Search and Rescue operations for Ìzi were futile and after 2 months they gave up all hope. All that time Ìzi was in a hidden terrorist hideout, locked in a room and tied to a chair. He was interrogated by the terrorists but he did not give them any intel. 2 years he spent as a captive, he was assumed dead. Finally, in 2009 he managed to escape, he managed to steal the knife of a terrorist when he was being interrogated and kept it hidden in his sleeve, when the terrorist exited the room Ìzi started to cut the ropes, he then forced the lock open with the same knife and ran, 2 terrorists pursuited him but he outran them. Weeks later a squad on patrol found Ìzi in a makeshift shelter.

Ìzi told the soldiers of the exact location of the terrorist hideout, a few days later the terrorist hideout was succesfully raided with minimal casualties, the anti-monarchist movement was hit hard, the hideout was important to them and losing it would make operating in the area extremely hard. The anti-monarchist movement planned a counter-attack against the government by stirring up a large riot within the city of Olsen. Thousands of people went out on the streets and caused over a million dollars of property damage. The special police forces were immediately sent to stop the rioters, they used tear gas to disperse the crowd, at that time the rioters started to panic, weapons were then drawn and shots were fired, after an exchange of fire that lasted for half an hour, 5 officers, 48 rioters and 2 civilians found their death, many others were wounded.

GOVERNMENT

Ibàsira is a monarchy, the current head of state of Ibàsira is His Imperial Majesty Otto Virtanen. The crown prince of Ibàsira is Mixelo Virtanen. Ibàsira is a capitalistic nation, his imperial majesty Otto Virtanen chooses not to interfere in the economy unless he thinks of it as absolutely necessary and tries to give a reasonable amount of social freedom to the people. Ibàsira is divided into 8 Iktis (provinces), each of them ruled by an iktilitrro except for Iktijožaz, the capital ikti, which is directly ruled by His Imperial Majesty Otto Virtanen.

All of these functions are generally inherited except when a bloodline stops, which has happened before when the last member of the Emìsevja family died, leaving the Ikti of Parux without an heir to the position of iktilitrro of Iktiparux. In this case, it is the emperor's duty to assign a new iktilitrro for this ikti, usually this is a family member of the iktilitrros of any of the other iktis or one of his own family members

Should the bloodline of the emperor stop, which has never happened, then one of the iktilitrros shall be elected by the citizens as the new emperor or empress of Ibàsira.

Each of the Iktilitrrolas/iktilitrrolos can rule their own iktis, however, any of their decisions can be overrided by the decision of His Imperial Majesty. The national laws apply to all iktis and cannot be changed by the Iktilitrrolas/Iktrilitrrolos.

Bàtiskarism is the state religion of Ibàsira, the rules of the Bàtiskarist bible are also implemented into the national law of Ibàsira. While following a different religion isn't illegal in Ibàsira, non-bàtiskarists may freely be enslaved by the population.

The government supports a regulated form of slavery to preserve their traditions. Law only allows the enslavement of non-followers of the Bàtiskar religion and criminals and fathers may enslave their own children even when they are Bàtiskarists and have never committed a crime, this is regulated somewhat, a father may not enslave more than half of his children and may not enslave more than three of his children. Non Ibàsiran citizens may not be enslaved for not following the Bàtiskarist religion according to the law, however, they can be sentenced to temporary or lifelong slavery if they commit a crime in Ibàsira, just like Ibàsiran citizens.

Ibàsira has a national healthcare service funded by the taxpayers. The healthcare service in Ibàsira is adequate and up to western standards. Primary and Secondary education is also publicly funded and compulsory for all children to attend. Tertiary education is not publicly funded but government-funded loans are given to children from poor families to allow them to follow tertiary education anyway.

ECONOMY

Postby Ibasira » Fri Nov 12, 2010 11:48 am

Ibàsira's economy is mostly centered around agriculture and coal mining, Ibàsiran soil is very coal-rich. It is estimated that about 22% of the Ibàsiran population works in the agriculture and 14% of the Ibàsiran population works in coal mines scattered throughout the nation. Most of these workers are slaves (about 95%), information technology is also a major sector in Ibàsira and most non-slaves have jobs in the Information technology sector which experienced a large boom at the end of the 20th century, siginificantly improving the nation's economy, this improvement is still ongoing as the information technology sector in Ibàsira continues developing. Ibàsiran trade is mostly centered around regional trade, international trade is also slowly becoming more common in Ibàsira. The production of Tuk-Tuks is also becoming an increasingly bigger sector.

Income inequality is a large problem in Ibàsira. The income in the outlying provinces, especially Iktiśolam and Iktiolso, is very low. Notable is the average income in Iktiparux, which is almost twice as high as any of the other Iktis, this is due to its favorable position near the coastline, Iktiparux is also the center of Information technology development in Ibàsira. Many companies choose Iktiparux as the location for their offices.

Total Government Spendings on Military: $28 102 958 285,-
Branches:
  • Ibàsiran Army (IbàsAr)
  • Ibàsiran Air Force (IbàsAF)
  • Ibàsiran Navy (IbàsNa)
The Ibàsiran army fights (not surprisingly) on land, they utilize armored auto rickshaws as their main infantry vehicle (no, we don't have cars in our nation). They usually try to overwhelm the enemy with fast attacks, not giving the enemy a chance to regroup and get a grip of the situation by rapid attacks, also important is flanking the enemy, the Ibàsiran army prefers to attack from 2 flanks (in the ideal situation this would be from the front and rear)

The Ibàsiran Air Force mostly just supports the Army and Navy, doing so by bombardments on enemy locations and providing reconnaisance, however, they may also play a more direct role in combat by deploying paratroopers, landing zones may be behind the enemy front where, once they land they'll try to flank the enemy, however AA-guns would make this tactic extremely difficult, therefore it's quite rare, more often do the paratroopers serve as quick reinforcements for the front.

The Ibàsiran Navy does all the missions where the sea plays an important role, naval bombardments, beach landings, and carrying aircraft, the navy provides heavy firepower for land forces when they're near the coast and will fight off enemy ships to stay in control of the waters.
Manpower:
Total: 2 000 000
Active: 250 000

Equipment:
The standard equipment for Ibàsiran soldiers include kevlar vests, lightweight helmets and protective elbow and kneepads, canteens, compasses, field rations, binoculars. The weapons used by the Ibàsiran military includes:
Military age: 16

Leaders:
General Milo Emìlopitsuk
Airmaster Tàrbo Emìskarr
Admiral Danjelo Emìšàlet

Culture and Demographics

Postby Ibasira » Fri Nov 12, 2010 11:49 am

Being a rather isolated nation, Ibàsira is certainly not the most multicultural nation in the world. However, the nation has managed to preserve their own unique culture throughout the ages. Ibàsira's culture is certainly a very interesting one. One of the unique features of Ibàsiran culture is its state religion, Bàtiskarism, a religion endemic to Ibàsiran people and barely practised outside Ibàsiran borders.

Slavery is a tradition that has been preserved for nearly a thousand years. It is tradition in Ibàsira that a father may enslave his own child once this child reaches adult age (16 in Ibàsira) a practice which, while common, is much more regulated by the government in modern times.

Another notable thing about Ibàsira that recreational drugs are completely legal in Ibàsira for anyone of adult age. The culture of Ibàsira has always been very liberal when it comes to drugs and alcohol.

Non-human sapient species were shipped to Ibàsira as slaves in the early 18th century and were heavily discriminated during that time. They were received an unequal treatment and untill 1945 virtually all Non-human sapient species in Ibàsira were all forced into slavery, except for the few who managed to escape and managed to seek refuge in abolitionist safehouses. It was in 1945 that the at that time current emperor, Kasper Virtanen, declared that all non-human sapient species were equal under law. As such, non-human sapient species could not be enslaved anymore simply for their race. Unfortunately, this law did not apply to those who were born under slavery. As such, even nowadays, most non-human sapient species in Ibàsira live in slavery and are still discriminated by humans despite being equal under law. The intergration process of the non-human sapient species goes very slowly and is a key subject of political debates in Ibàsira.
