Gendarmería officers on patrol in Vostroya, Vostria following recent civil unrest
The Gendarmería Nacional are essentially paramilitary security personnel with no legal right to arrest suspects but often are called into situations where it is too dangerous for normal police officers. They are often seen during protests, riots and protecting high value or high security areas.
