Geography

Dalarcya is a large peninsula branching off of Libya, with many islands off of the mainland's coast. At 252,392 km², the mainland is the largest part of the country; the 49 islands make up 24,142 km², making the total land mass 276,354 km².

23 of the islands, uninhabited, are in the archipelago 450 km west known as the War'asl Airrelnr. 12, mostly inhabited, are a part of the Ril Airrelnr, 228 km north. The rest, all inhabited, make up the Lleseweirr Relnr 751 km to the southeast.

All of the islands have a Csa climate.

The mainland has varying climate zones. Most of the land has a Csa climate. The north-central area, home to many mountains, has a Dfb climate.

Most of the mainland is flat, making way for good agriculture; the islands especially so. However, in the north-central region, the Shulral mountain range is rather cold most of the year, in comparison to the rest of the place. It is also very rocky.

History

Prehistory

Archaeological research at Henair'ul, Nul'ele Province shows that human live did not populate the Dalarcyan peninsula or islands until at least 45,000 years ago. A large group of Homo floresiensis, an ancestor of the modern human, had split up at the northernmost part of the area. They then traveled throughout the area. More archaeological research shows that they died out about 10,000 years ago, when Homo sapiens sapiens (modern man) killed off the last of them.

These modern historical people were the Ailnaielr, a dark-skinned race of humanity that got lighter (somehow) as time went on. These Ailnaielr served as the true ancestors of the modern Dalarcyan ethnicity; some modernized Ailnaielr, with a lighter skin tone than their ancestors, live chiefly in the northwest of the peninsula. Ironically, they are not nomads; they are just a modern ethnic group.

The Ailnaielr, being modern humans, started up what is considered to be the first ancient civilization, known as Fseaisaiareln. Its capital, now outside the modern-day capital of 'irre, was Selsau. Not much remains of Selsau; however, there are some ruins, most notably the Musriphlul of the Gods (a religious area) and the Fseaisaiareln Sunausu, the legislative body of the Fseaisaiareln Empire, composed of aristocrats.

Fseaisaiareln lasted from circa 4100 BC to circa 1600 BC, and took up most of the peninsula and some islands. It had no known neighbors, but once other civilizations started up, it had wealthy relations with those civilizations. Cause for the Fseaisaiareln demise is still unknown, as there are multiple theories; one says that the city-states destroyed each other, and another says that the race just died out after a massive famine that scarred the area for generations.

Classical Antiquity

In the 2nd century BC, the Roman Republic found out about the peninsula and colonized it. Several cities were set up, most notably Ma'rlo and Oamhoagho. As to be expected, neither of these cities currently exist.

After the start of the Roman Empire, a furious Dalarcyan people threw up a revolt. This revolt, known as the Ra'caaaurl War, lasted from 21 BC to about 30 AD, ending with the forces of Tiberius crushing the revolt. The area soon afterward experienced cultural and economic power, and was considered one of the most powerful areas of the Empire. This was especially correct during the Empire's peak under Trajan.

However, when the Empire started experiencing problems, so did Dalarcya. Its economy started going downhill, and a famine occurred in the mid-3rd century AD. This caused many to throw themselves into the western part of the Nairrairraiffai river. Also, insurgency started up again.

When the whole Empire collapsed, Dalarcya was in the area of the Eastern Roman Empire, which would become the Byzantine Empire.

The Dark Ages

Not much happened during the Middle Ages. In politics, Dalarcya became Eastern Orthodox, and then Muslim during the Crusades; and then Eastern Orthodox again. That just about sums it up.

However, in the city of Irrusc, a huge EO building was built. Known as the Run'r Wairr, it was completed in 1143 and still stands today in Law Irrusc.

The Early Modern Period

Unlike other European countries (Dalarcya only being partially so), the peninsula was not heavily affected by the Renaissance; rather, it still had some scholarly stuff going on with the Byzantine Empire. At its fall, however, the peoples of Dalarcya, namely the modern Ailnaielr and the Seiseraielr (whites), formed two separate nations. The first, populated by the Ailnaielr, was the Kingdom of Ueriphu, an absolute monarchy that was militarily aggressive. The latter, populated by the Seiseraielr, was the Republic of Aisufa, one of the freest states in the known world for much of its existence.

Surprisingly, only one war occurred between the two nations- the War of Twelve Years, lasting from 1601-1613, was over a territorial dispute in the Ril Airrelnr and resulted in an Aisufan victory. Other than that, they both became allies and major political and economic powers in the Mediterranean, but abstained from the Americas because they were both satisfied with their territorial acquisitions.

Like its predecessors, these states fell to bigger issues; the Ottoman Empire had already gained the Libyan territories of Cyrenaica and Tripolitania, and both nations of the peninsula became fearful. It was this fear that became known to the sultan, Suleiman the Magnificent. The sultan sent spies over to infiltrate the governments, bringing them down; this practice continued until Ahmed III finished the purpose of such. It took a while for the underground job to do the trick, but once insurgency was in effect, the Ottoman army was sent in. This first occurred in Ueriphu, having it conquered in 1695; Aisufa did not fall until 1722.

18th and 19th centuries

During the 18th century, the Age of Enlightenment effected the peninsula, resulting in many people trying to escape the state religion of Sunni Islam for another one. However, this was not met well by the Ottomans; Osman III, Mustafa III, and Abdülhamid I were all known to have sent troops to force the state religion and to instill propaganda against Judaism, Christianity and whatnot. Still, as Islam became more anti-technology, these feelings persisted.

It was these feelings that caused two revolutions; these would be the Rsae' Sayuri'aiul (1792-98) and the Nerdas Sayuri'aiul (1824-31). Neither resulted in liberal reforms for the peoples, and only caused more heartbreak and fear.

The 19th century would be one that would change the peninsula forever; the Ottoman Empire was beginning to fall. Starting with Abdülaziz I, the sultans seemed to have less and less power over the people, and this carried on through the reigns of Murad V, Abdülhamid the Great Khan, Mehmed V and, finally, Mehmed VI. It was with this last sultan that independence would be gained...

1900s

In 1922, the Ottoman Empire officially fell. However, it was in 1913 that Aisufa would become independent (well, in reality, it would be traded to Italy.) Ueriphu was invaded and taken over by Italy in 1921, shortly before the Empire fell.

Under Italian rule, Benito Mussolini soon tried to convert most of the people to Roman Catholicism; this plan mostly failed, mainly because there were too many religions and sects thereof; however, most Christians were Roman Catholic already, so we guess that was an advantage over the now-minority Orthodox Christians.

During WWII, the area was heavily bombarded by Allied and Axis forces; these constant attacks divided the people. Some were pro-Allies, others pro-Axis; this soon caused a division among the people that was so extreme that whole families would be split on it and pro-Allied young men drafted into the Italian armed forces would kill themselves beforehand, never wanting to serve a cause that extreme.

In 1946, a referendum was held, instead of becoming a unified Italian republic, whether or not to have the peninsula become its own state. The anti-Italian cause won with 88.2%, and it was proven that the event was not rigged after criticism by pro-Italian residents. Any pro-fascist ideals were banned in a referendum held shortly afterwards; these were repealed in 1992, when the Tribunal ruled it as a violation to article I of the Charter of Human Rights in Dalarcya (1950).

In 1948, a third and final referendum was held by the United Nations to determine what kind of government the peninsula would have. Ironically, 53% said that a constitutional monarchy with limited monarchial powers was desirable. When most of the Ailnaielr, voting for a republic instead, complained, the UN sent peacekeeping troops in to prevent a civil war. This did not help, as the Republic of Ueriphu was formed in 1949; however, in 1952, it ceded powers to the Royal Republic (Suirrer Safifrais) (aka, constitutional monarchy), formed in 1950.

Since then, however, there has been a ton, and it has helped the nation; a bit of racism from both the Ailnaielr and the Seiseraielr occurs from time to time, but other than that, the races do get along.

Today

Since 1950, the formal founding of our nation, a ton has happened. The Constitution of the Royal Republic outlined everything in our government- the Royal Family, the Prime Minister and the Executive Committee, the bicameral Parliament, and the Tribunal. A separate add-on, the Charter of Human Rights in Dalarcya, laid out the rights all citizens had.

Also, a lot had happened on the foreign affairs scale. The nation joined the UN in 1955, and became a founding member of NATO. Once again, that small peninsula sharing a border with Libya only was starting to gain some political capital.

The first elections were held in 1951; they have been held every four years since then.

In 1997, when the UN disbanded and the WA replaced it, Dalarcya decided not to become a member immediately. The Crown stated that the country would have its mind made up at least by 2003; this has not happened, as the referendum held in 2001 was shown to be rigged by an unknown group. This still has not been resolved.

Politics and Government

The Royal House of 'anfra'ul

The royal family is the 'anfra'ul family. Currently, the ruler of the family (and thus monarch) is His Majesty the Emperor of Dalarcya, Aieail Erazelnas. He is currently 71 (born in 1935), and has ruled since 1990. Let us view his family:

Executive Branch

The executive branch of the government is headed by, of course, the Emperor as head of state, and the Prime Minister as the head of government. They preside over the Executive Council, which has Ministers appointed by the Prime Minister.

The Prime Minister is elected by the people every four years, in an election with an electoral college. However, this college is only referred to when there is an exact tie in votes for the Prime Ministership.

The Prime Minister appoints the Executive Council (with optional consultation from the Emperor), and has practical free choice when appointing these ministers. However, the Parliament must confirm them by 2/3 concurrence. Likewise, they can impeach those ministers (and the Prime Minister) with that vote.

The Council is responsible for setting government policy that is not under the jurisdiction of the Parliament. All decisions are made via a 60% vote. The Prime Minister, however, is solely responsible for signing bills or vetoing them. He is not a member of the Parliament. The ministers, however, have to be.

The Parliament

The Parliament is the legislature of Dalarcya. It is composed of two branches; the House of Deputies (Huira ull Nafi'aiar) being the lower, and the Senate (Rale'a) being the upper one.

The House of Deputies is elected by the people every two years, using the Sainte-Laguë method. There is one deputy per constituency, and the number of constituencies depends upon what the government feels like doing with these divisions. There has not been a reform since 1975; since then, there have been a total of 531 constituencies, equalling about 10.6 per province, on average.

It is headed by a Speaker of the House, which is chosen from among the majority party (not absolute majority, as in 50% or over, but as in the party with the most seats.) Each party is allowed to have a Leader, serving as head of the party in that house, and a Secretary, overseeing decorum from that party and helping out the Speaker keep control.

The Senate is elected by the people; it is a continuously moving body, with half of the seats open for elections every two years. This house also uses the Sainte-Laguë method. Each of the 50 provinces is allotted two Senators, to be elected on state-wide open lists. Once again, the states depend on the government's decisions; but since the nation's inception, there has not been a reform in state boundaries.

It is headed by a Chancellor of the Senate, once again chosen from the among the majority party. Each party is allowed to have a Commissioner, like a Leader; and a Manager, like a Secretary.

The Emperor is a member of the Senate; the Escort can choose to be a member of the House, and currently is. If there is a tie in the House, the Deputy Prime Minister breaks it; since there are 101 seats in the Senate, there is no need for a tie-breaking person.

The Tribunal

The Tribunal is the judicial body of the Royal Republic. This is the only body where the states are grouped together in "regions", and there are 5 states to a region. Each of these regions' people elect one justice to serve for life on the Tribunal; they also have the sole power to impeach these justices.

The justices are headed by the Emperor. The Emperor, however, only votes if there is a tie in the Tribunal on any decision, hereby curtailing a lot of his possible power. The Escort cannot choose to be a member of the Tribunal, and can only become so if the Emperor cedes his power to the Escort. This has not happened, but happened in 1981 when Empress Shelnse Russeaila ceded her power to Escort Rala Rsu''; when he died in 1987, she handed the power to her son (the current Emperor), easily capable of solving political issues.

The Tribunal presides over impeachments, treason cases, legal disputes that were appealed to the Tribunal, constitutional disputes, and interpreting law.

Political Parties

There are hundreds of political parties; but none of them are large enough to actually gain even an implied majority in Parliament. This is why they group together into political coalitions, which serve as ad hoc political parties. Demographics

Ethnicities

About 85% of Dalarcya is composed of the Seiseraielr, basically Caucasians but with some Jewish backgrounds. The other minority races are the modern Ailnaielr (about 11%), Arabs (3%), Italians (0.7%) and Greeks (0.3%).

Languages

Dalarcyan is spoken all around the country, alongside English; these are the only two with official status nationwide. However, the recognized languages of the nation are those spoken at home. Dalarcyan is spoken in about 45% percent of homes, but the rest are these:

- Arabic (21%) (spoken mainly in Werhailr'ul, Usarul, Ainehu, Nul'ele & Wirrunailr)
- Hebrew (31%) (spoken all across the country; though mainly in Ruiairaiele & Erefene)
- Italian (2%) (spoken in Fallrirrryelaie)

Religions

Due to its long history and geographic locale, Dalarcya truly is a mixed bag of religions. There is no official state religion, as the nation is a secular state; however, many of the people are at least semi-active. 24% of the population identify themselves as non-religious; 5% say they are agnostic.

Culture

Education

School in Dalarcya is tax-funded and compulsory from ages 5 to 21. Private schools are allowed; they just have to be secular institutions.

Art

Dalarcyan art has always been associated with the times and the countries that influenced it. It also has been influenced by outside nations, most notably Spain and Italy and other Mediterranean countries. Pop art was also a big fad in Dalarcya, and artists such as Elnirr Weshur & Suirr Raish'alr'aail were rather famous during that period.

Architecture

Like the arts, architecture in Dalarcya depends on the timeframe. During its first independent stage, Dalarcyan architecture was often Baroque. Nowadays, Dalarcyans prefer modern and postmodern architecture.

Music

Traditional Dalarcyan music has roots in flamenco and Middle Eastern music, though regional styles of folk music do exist. In the modern era, progressive rock, New Wave, metal, jazz and other genres of rock have been considered rather popular.

Dalarcyan bands became notable starting in the late 1960s, with the debut album for the classic rock band Rranra. Shortly afterwards came bands from here and abroad, most notably Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, The Eagles, Yes, and natives like Gun to the Head and the "man", 'huner We'cailr. Sadly, Jimi Hendrix never gained a large following during his prime, but became increasingly popular posthumously.

Cuisine

Dalarcyan cuisine is unlike any other in the world. It is primarily influenced by seafood. Three main divisions, however, are identified:

- Aisufa: great usage of seafood and pork; famous dishes include the pork-heavy fusc sel'ulr, and the cold soup surnruif.
- Shulral: big on lamb; shown easily by the dishes Fresc Nuil'eail and Sulhesh stew.
- Ueriphu: related to Middle Eastern cuisine; mostly modifies it.

Sport

Sport in Dalarcya has been dominated by football, baseball and golf since the nation's inception. The San We'as Golf Club in 'irre and the Hairh'uwl Hills Country Club in Ful'a Yanse Beach are just two of the nation's main golf clubs, drawing people from all across the Mediterranean.
