Culturally it bears similarity to Kyrgyzstan and Bhutan.

On a superficial level, it's Imperial Japan if it stopped being batshit insane, got things together, went to space, and used Japanese as a lingua franca while having Latin as the official administrative language.

Go deeper, however, and you'll find elements of the Cthulhu Mythos - which means it no longer resembles any RL polity.

Culturally, Shyubi Koku Naishifun belongs to the East Asian cultural sphere and similar cultural similarities exist with Korea, Japan and China. Chopsticks is used. Some very few Chinese characters are also used. And similar cultural traditions exist in cuisine, architecture and other facets. However, unlike other East Asian countries, Confucianism and Buddhism plays limited influence because of conflict with Christianity.

Shyubi Koku Naishifun is also influenced by Russian culture as its neighbour and because of Orthodox Christianity. It is an Orthodox country like Russia and others.

Economics and social-wise, Shyubi Koku Naishifun is capitalist but has a developed and all-encompassing social welfare system. So, more like European countries. It is also conservative and religious on social issues so maybe like America, or Russia, or other East Asian countries. The government is also a democracy and there are high civil rights and political freedoms, so maybe like whatever country has that.

Portugal is Malizistan's former colonizer so, Malizistan does have small cultural similarities because of that.

Economically, think Switzerland with its low inflation rate and stable currency; Sweden with its Nordic Model economy; and Indonesia, in terms of what commodities we are exporting.

Culturally, we are a pan-European blend. Economically, we are something of a hybrid of the Mondragon Corporation of Spain, the Free Territory of Catalonia, and the Scandinavian left. Socially, we are an even freer version of Copenhagen or Amsterdam.

A better explanation of what we are comes from our Alternate History. Beginning with a workers' victory in the Paris Commune, the Revolution slowly spread over France. Soon, international compatriots on our borders, especially in Germany, joined the revolt. which spread across Europe. The ultimate economic and political system is something like Dubcek's anti-Stalinist "Socialism with a Human Face", what might have happened had the US not demanded the ouster of Communists from Italy, Belgium, and France after WWII (or the Russian hadn't invaded East Germany, Hungary, or Czechoslovakia and kicked out everyone BUT Communists). In a more modern frame, we claim elements of similarity with the Scandinavian/German/French Left.

Nouveau Yathrib is somewhat like Australia and South Africa in that it's located in a rather harsh and unforgiving section of the Southern Hemisphere and that its population is concentrated at higher elevations. The lack of general infrastructure or legitimized central authority, combined with the constant influx of refugees from all over the world, has given our country a very brutal dog-eat-dog kind of mentality as everyone is struggling to stay afloat in a world where the only means of doing so serve to push the raft further beneath the waves.

The breakdown of social order, violence, and tribalism plaguing Nouveau Yathrib can be compared to the war-torn regions of the Middle East, North Africa, and the Congo. The growing sectarianism between adherents of different religions can be compared to South Asia, while the hardening of social divisions along racial lines can be interpreted as an alt-righter's multicultural nightmare (or fantasy, depending on whether their vision for a dark Enlightenment involves the emergence of a state-sponsored apartheid system). There aren't any obvious present-day equivalents to our society and culture, but I would say the best approximation to our racial/ethnic makeup and cultural mix would be Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia, Brunei, and East Timor since that's the country our flag is stolen from. To a lesser extent, our society and culture also resembles that of Sri Lanka, Suriname, Oman, and Namibia.
