Semi-Guided Man Portable Missile

The semi-guided missile is a low budget missile, meant to improve infantry fightability at minimal cost increases.

Armed with either a HE or an anti-bunker tandem implosion warhead, it is internally guided, improving accuracy using cheap inertial and altitude guidance, partially (not fully) compensating for gravity and crosswind. It's range is improved by using a weaker rocket motor.

It can operate in a direct fire mode, or a mortar-like lobbing mode. The operator can also specify a distance at which it would "dive", greatly improving success against defilade troops. Can use a contact or proximity fuse.

It can be fired from field howitzers, or from manportable launchers.

The range is 2,500 meters against area targets, 900 meters against line of sight targets, and 100 meters against mobile targets. It can reach 190 meters per second.

The father of the rifles that the United Commonwealth has today decided to modify the not-6.5 Swede into the not-.260 Remington. Since then it has become the new full caliber rifle cartridge of the UC military, and there are even plans to make it into some kind of over-powered cartridge. Forego the 5.5 polymer cased telescoped, and make way for this overpowered 6.5 PCTA.

A multipurpose missile isn't a bad idea at all but there is not much reason not to use SACLOS or beamrider guidance unless very long range is desired. The low flight altitude of a CLOS ATGM is ideal for airbursting anyways.

For what purpose? Starstreak is larger and heavier than Stinger and is SACLOS, which means it isn't F&F like Stinger, which is also probably cheaper.

It's worth noting that the accuracy of iron bomb drops has also increased vastly in the last decade.

They are somewhat depreciated because really accurate delivery requires low level flight, and modern ROE requires really accurate delivery. Prior to desert storm NATO went all-in with submunitions, then all-in with PGMs post Desert Storm, so conventional bombs were somewhat neglected in the west. South Africa is the only country that has tried to make substantial improvements on the Mk 80 series with their pre-formed fragmention bombs.

There is nothing particularly wrong with them though. The Russian air force has sort of brought them back in Syria because they don't really care and most of their aircraft cannot carry targeting pods.

My mistake, I was thinking in broad terms of "medium-range" SAMs, which I assumed Tunguska and Pantsir were a part of.

Oh, well, the Pantsyr has better coverage than the Crotale or Rapier, but its nowhere near the level of the big SAMs.

The range of the PAC-3 it is probably around 120km for air breathing targets. Longer with the MSE missile. In an ancient military parade article it was described as the closest foreign analog of the S-300V.
