What music genre does the majority of your Nation's population perfer? The two most popular music genre in Zhouran are Zhouranese-Style Electronic Music and Zhouranese Rock.

Zhouranese-Style Electronic Music, also known as Z-Style Electronic or Z-Style Music, is a genre of electronic dance music that originated from Zhouran during the early 1990s. Characterized by repeating melodic phrases, 125 to mid 140 beats per minute (BPM) tempo, a form that builds up and down throughout a track, and mixing of layers with distinctly foreshadowed build-up and release, Z-Style Electronic songs tend to be long to allow progression and have sufficiently sparse opening and closing sections to facilitate mixing.

Subgenres

Z-Style Pop

This particular subgenre, created between 1996 and 1998, focuses on vocals and melodies. Although Z-Style Electronic songs tend to use vocal samples mixed in with the beats, Z-Style Pop songs use full sets of lyrics. The subgenre is a fusion of Z-Style Electronic and Zhouranese pop music, commonly referred to as Z-pop.


Hard Z-Style

Known for its strong, hard and aggressive sound, a deep, hard-sounding kick drum, intense faded or reversed basslines accompanying the beat, a dissonant synth melody, and detuned and distorted sounds, this subgenre was created between 1998 and 2000.


Soft Z-Style

Created between 1997 and 1999, this subgenre is characterized by slow to fast pace melodies, house-like progression, simple rhythm structure, and a primary focus on the melody rather than the beat. The melodies are typically played on an acoustic instrument such as a piano, violin, or saxophone. Soft Z-Style music features soothing piano riffs, trance-like melodies and house-like beats.

houranese Rock, also known as Zhouranese-Style Rock or Z-Style Rock, is a musical genre that entered the musical mainstream of Zhouran in the early 1980s. Featuring rock influenced by several different acts from inside and outside Zhouran, any rock music produced in the nation can be considered Z-Style Rock and its diversity follows the same origin. Unlike Western rock, traditional Z-Style Rock generally has less drive and is characterized by different rhythms, more involved lyrics, and the use of unconventional instruments such as string and wind instruments, in addition to the standard electric guitars and drums.

Subgenres

Z-Style Pop Rock

Zhouranese/Z-Style Pop Rock is a subgenre of Z-Style Rock that emerged in the late 1980s. Featuring elements of traditional Z-Style Rock with punk rock and pop music to varying degrees, this subgenre combines fast punk tempos, chord changes and loud guitars with pop-influenced melodies and lyrical themes. Z-Style Pop Rock merges pop melodies with speedy punk rock tempos, chord changes and loud guitars.


Z-Style Punk Rock

Emerged in the early 1990s, Zhouranese/Z-Style Punk Rock fuses elements of punk rock and heavy metal, such as the distorted electric guitar used in both genres, although generally with more emphasis on one or the other. The subgenre features much slower tempos, dissonant harmonies, more complex instrumentation, and heavy use of guitar distortion, fuzz and feedback.


Z-Style Dark Rock

Emerged in the late 1990s, this subgenre uses influences from a variety of musical styles, including multiple genres of heavy metal. Zhouranese/Z-Style Dark Rock is heavily syncopated and is based on guitar riffs. Featuring mid-song bridges, a general lack of guitar solos, and the use of guitars that are down-tuned to play a heavier sound, the vocal styles include singing, rapping, screaming and growling. Z-Style Dark Rock has strong emphasis on rhythm, rather than on complexity or mood. Guitar riffs occasionally are similar to death metal guitar riffs, while bassists and drummers are often influenced by funk and hip hop break beats, respectively, adding to the subgenre's rhythmic nature. Z-Style Dark Rock generally uses common time, distorted guitars, power chords and note structures primarily revolving around Dorian, Aeolian or Phrygian modes.

Most often, a full orchestra plays the anthem in person. However, on occasions when the Emperor is in foreign territory or unexpected at an event one of his guards or retainers has a portable surround-sound generator (about the size of that old puzzle, the Rubik's cube) play the anthem.
