BREAKING NEWS:
NS VERMILLION HIJACKED IN EGERIAN SEA, 3,000 AT STAKE

Imperial Navy "to respond swiftly and decisively"

Image
NS Vermillion pictured leaving Ostia's docks on Saturday. The only
nuclear-powered cruise ship in the world, she cost 1.5 billion dollars to
construct, and is at high stakes to recover.

The NS Vermillion, a Legatian cruise ship of Fortuna Cruiselines has been hijacked by an unknown entity while at sea. In the early afternoon of Tuesday, the ship was boarded by numerous armed individuals wearing an array of formal or dress-like apparel and armed with military grade weaponry, who subsequently have killed the ship's captain and security staff. The ship, bound for a tour of cities in Astrigothia and Vylaris, has been halted by the hijackers near the supposed maritime borders of the two nations.

File: Location of the Vermillion

Eyewitness reports have been incredibly limited due to the supposed shutdown of the ships' wifi connection, but most have reported numerous deaths and injuries, a "large amount" of perpetrators, and women being taken by the perpetrators, including those as young as 14. Direct correspondence with the ship or its crew or passengers is, at this time, impossible.

Distress calls were sent at 11:22 to nearby Imperial Navy Carrier Assault Group IV Victrix, which has since sent guided missile cruiser DDG-62 Aemelius Habitus and guided missile cruiser CG-44 Tellurium Ancra to intercept the ship. According to Imperial Navy reports, they are underway.

The Imperial Navy has issued a formal response to the situation, stating that they will "perform any and all actions within their power" to respond to the Vermillion's hijacking. PM-22 Sinon reconnaissance craft have been launched from IV Victrix' carrier Conatus to monitor and track the situation. "We will deal with this swiftly and decisively." A spokesperson for the Imperial Navy said in a press conference. The Imperial Government has refused to take part in press conferences monitoring the event.

More on this story as it develops.

Insaeldic Royal Military Creates New Naval Infantry Brigade and Aviation Regiment Stationed In Jótland

By: Jóhannes Margeirsen

Today Minister of Maritime Affairs Admiral Þor Olvirssen Announced that the Insaeldic Royal Navy will be establishing a new Naval Infantry Brigade. Minister Olvirssen said the establishment of the new brigade was in response to "Maritime Terrorism" as he put it citing the recent hijacking Legatian cruise ship. Just hours later Minister of Aerospace Affairs Grand Air Marshal Sævaldur Tryggvasen Announced that the Insaeldic Royal Air Force would be establishing a new Aviation Regiment in order to better patrol Insaeldic Airspace.

Minister of Defense Rangvaldr Átúlfmann confirmed these statements in a press briefing. "Given the situations we've seen around the world we've deemed that an increased presence in the Veisian Sea is within our national interest. We are going to focus on increasing maritime safety and the protection of our airspace. These two new units are intended to not just to increase our national security but to also increase the safety for all who traverse the Veisian Sea." He said in his press speech.

Parliamentary Leader of the Free Liberal Party Njáll Oddgeirsen immediately dismissed the act saying "We're going to incite more conflict in the area rather than bring peace." he said alluding to possible conflict with the Vierz. "If I were Waldemar Adler id be sweating at this information." he added later. He's lead a coalition of Parliamentarians who have opposed this increase in what they call "Provocative Militarism". MP Oddgeirsen is joined by about 79 other MP's in opposition to this act. They claim that increased militarization of the Jótland region. Claiming that such acts are provocative and could increase tension between Insaeldor and Vierland.

Prime Minister Kjaldrsen has dismissed these claims however. "I understand the standoffish nature of the Parliamentarians. But we have to many threats to not establish these units. The Kingdom is not interested in war, These Naval Infantry soldier are trained in boarding and the aircrafts that are apart of this new Aviation Regiment are filled with patrol and recon aircraft with very few attack capabilities." He told reporters. The Governing coalition minus the Free Liberals have coalesced around the Prime Ministers stance along with the the Insaeldic Nationalist Party.

Given the current makeup in Parliament the establishment of these two new Military Units will most likely see little interference in their establishment over the coming weeks.

Treaty of Friendship Renewed
As the general election approaches, Mairland and Insaeldor renew their long-standing ties of friendship
Image
First Minister MacMurray and King Æsgar X meet in Lochiel

LOCHIEL, MAIRLAND- The Treaty of Friendship, first signed in 1935 between Mairland and Insaeldor, was renewed once again today as the two countries reaffirm their alliance and commitment to one another. The Conservative government, seeking to boost its popularity ahead of the upcoming general election, introduced the renewal into the Chambers to be voted upon. Surprisingly, the Reformed Party voted on the side of their political enemies, and the renewal was approved 419 votes to 181. The Pontifex took up special residence in Grutheron Palace to grant his assent to the treaty. In Insaeldor, Parliament and the Council of Commons also approved the renewal.

Opposition came from the Liberal Party and the Greens, as well as Rhyddid i Glenwyn and the Independents not in coalition with the Conservative Party. However, this was not enough to stop the massive combined voting power of the Conservative and Reformed Parties, as well as the Conservative's Independent allies, as well as the Elphish Freedom Party, which voted for the renewal for the sake of what they termed as "political expediency"- although no-one has been quite able to figure out what this means yet.

The renewal comes eight days after Insaeldor took steps for the increasing militarization of Jótland, a move which angered Vierzland. The Treaty of Friendship led to Mairland's involvement in the Great War in 1938, and ever since the war's end seven years later, the two countries have maintained a strong alliance in which the primary hypothetical enemy would be Vierzland. First Minister MacMurray stated in a press release that "Mairland, with the renewal of the Treaty, strongly reaffirms its commitment to the defense and support of the Kingdom of Insaeldor." This was echoed by his Insaeldic counterpart, Prime Minister Brynjar Kjaldrsen.

The First Minister and the King of Insaeldor, Æsgar X, met in Lochiel early today to sign the Treaty- adding their signatures to the bottom of a long list of those of their predecessors. It is expected that the renewal will be officially confirmed and also signed by the other leaders of the two countries, Pontifex David VI and Prime Minister Kjaldrsen. The solidarity of the Mairish Chambers behind the renewal was expressed in a statement by the Leader of the Opposition, James Dalzell of the Reformed Party, given the day that the Chambers approved it: "The renewal of the Treaty of Friendship transcends partisan boundaries. It is a matter of national security. This alliance has stood firm since the 1930s, an entirely different era, and has withstood the tests of time since then." However, Mr. Dalzell could not help sneaking in a jab at his Conservative opponents: "As the start of the general election approaches, voters in Mairland would do well to remember which party stands strongest on the issue of national security- which is, despite the renewal of this Treaty, not the current government."

An official statement from His Majesty's Government of Insaeldor is still forthcoming.

King Æsgar X Reaffirms Relations With Mairland, Free Liberals, Justice, and Social Democrats Call Into Question Mairish Human Rights Record.
Image
King Æsgar X speaking after resigning the Treaty of Friendship

After a long standing debate in the Council of Commons king has taken it upon himself to fulfil the wishes of the Council. With a 132-78 in favor of renewal not many have seen this as a hard fought battle but those in the know have seen it differently. The current governing coalition lead by the Christian Democrats saw heavy dissent within the governing coalition seeing the coalition vote 66-56 in favor of the treaty with the Civic Alliance/66, Free Liberals, and Justice Party voting no. Deputy Prime Minister Aslung Úlfermorðingi said that Mairlands human rights records needed to be brought into question. "When you look at the record Mairland you see issues with religious liberty and with values that contradict our own. As a country which supports liberal values of personal freedom I don t think we should support such illiberal nations" she said in a letter signed by the leaders of the dissenting governing coalition members.

Prime Minister Kjaldrsen said the issue was an internal matter and would be handled by his government. Although with such a large section of his Government it seems as though nothing of substance could really be done and if he were to start to kick parties out he'd risk operating a minority government. So the Kjaldrsen government looks to be safe for now and the PM to do little about the blatant dissent. However this did not prevent King Æsgar X from going to the Mairish capital of Lochiel to renew the Insaeldic-Marish Treaty of Friendship which has played a massive role in how the two countries have interacted with one another over the years. Playing its most important role during the events of the Great War. It also helped determined how the Insaeldic state reacted torwards the Mairish Revolution of 1946.

In a speech given after the signing of the Treaty he addressed the criticisms of the Marish-Insaeldic alliance. "We can not let petty differences divide us, a house united will stand strong. The world is a shifting and complex being with violence being a massive aspect of this world, violence has simply taken hold in ways I haven't seen since ascended to the throne in 1987 and to me that means that we need to keep our friends close. My counterparts in Mairland are all to aware of these issues and they understand the world just as we do. We need our allies as the world falls deeper into polarized and ideological violence." He said. Although many have criticized the Kings speech as "paranoid" and noted a somewhat skittish nature to the speech. Other however have said the speech dived deep into the issues that have faced the world since the new millennium.
