Largest majority by a political party in your nation

Postby Sevenisles » Tue Nov 24, 2015 7:44 am

In the most recent election to the Executive Council of Sevenisles, the left-wing Social Democrats swept to power with 85 out of 90 seats.

With only 5 seats the opposition People's Party is therefore so insignificant as to be useless at the present time.

The reason that this came about was not so much an enormous socialist bias but more because the Social Democrats were the only party with clear and decisive economic policies.

The People's Party had failed to formulate a clear plan or even solidly commit to whether it wanted to lean to the left or the right, while the Green Party pursues an agenda built around social and environmental issues which makes it a considerable force in the legislature but of little to no value on the Executive Council.

The Social Democrats therefore, with 70% of the popular vote, took 94% of the seats.

What's the biggest majority - either of votes or of seats - ever recorded by a winning political party in your nation?

The Democratic National Party in 1954 won all but 40 of the 477 seats in the National Congress.

Most of the NS stats are a good indication of this nation, except for the whole slavery and human sacrifice thing. I was hoping to do alot with a factbook and go into detail, unfortunately with how busy uni and work is keeping me, that is unlikely to occur anytime soon. Until then, NS stats can be used as a guideline for the nation but not everything is literal. Population is actually about 1.5 billion as well.

The Dominion's rightist political party, the Wings of Liberty won 60% of the votes in the 2510 election, outmatched the other political parties.

In 2058, when the president Roberto II, from the FPN party, has won the elections with 94% of the votes, after the end of Zacarias Government. 5% of the other votes goes to Neutral Decision, and the other 1% goes to the oposition leader of the PDB Party Sandro de Basti, who has involved into the Zacarias corruption.

In the 1963 general election, the Legislative Yuan was flooded by a 91% KMT majority, based on a 57% popular vote across the nation.

Recent elections, however, indicate that any majority is a good majority.

The Partido Conservador (PC) won 66 of the 101 seats in the Cámara de Representantes in 1983, winning 7 more seats than the 59 they had won in 1979. In the King's Council of Lords 12 of the 16 lords appointed by the King were members of Partido Conservador (PC) (one of whom became the speaker of the Council), 1 more than had been appointed in 1979.

Primer Ministro Rodrigo Lobo had exceeded expectations and had restored order to Lyseria after the chaotic and unpopular Herrero administration of 1975-1979. He was also up against Herrero's less charismatic successor, Representante Sebastino Alfarero, who had broken the Partido del Trabajo (PT)'s alliance with the Partido Socialista (PS) and struggled in the debates due to his lack of charisma and failing memory.

By working with the socially liberal and economically free market Partido Liberal, who had 2 seats in the Cámara de Representantes, Lobo was able to get the necessary 2/3rds majority in the Cámara that, when paired with his 2/3rds majority in the King's Council of Lords, allowed Lobo to pass constitutional amendments allowing limitless funding from private companies, individuals and institutions (e.g. the Roman Catholic Church) provided the individual was a Lyserian citizen and the institution or company operated, at least in part, in Lyseria. This led to some companies setting up "front offices", known as "parasite offices" by opponents, in Lyseria which they essentially just used to fund politicians and political parties they liked without actually having extensive operations in the Kingdom.

The liberal and Conservative parties have been in competition for the majority of support for the last few decades, though the constitution part has always been a close third. Fortunately, the lack of over-organized political parties and short terms in office make it hard for one to get a foothold on the population.

Our current Chancellor is conservative, but she recently dropped out of the race for reelection and the leading liberal candidate is most likely to be elected, come December 1st.

The Free Democratic Union party won their largest majority in 2003, when they claimed 339 of the country's 406 seats in parliament, totally swamping the opposition and establishing themselves as the country's new governing party. The 2008 and 2013 general elections saw similar, albeit less overwhelming results.

The Carolinian General Election of 2054 marked a major point in the political system of Carolina. After having merged several parties together, the Carolina Libertarian Party formed in 2051. Because of the forming from many different smaller parties of centrist and libertarian ideologies with the former Carolina Democracy Party, as well as pulling a massive campaign in '52 and '53, the party went on to pull in a 89% popular vote. Not only was this the highest that a single party has ever achieved in the country, but is also made the CLP the first nationally elected libertarian party in the world.

The North American Libertarian Party (NALP) is the current incarnation of the party, and has held the majority in the country since.

In the 1986 election, the Liberal Party won 314 out of 360 constituencies, while officially earning an allotment of 326 seats as a result of the PR vote. Out of 540 seats, this easily enabled them to form a government by themselves. However, their fortunes reversed dramatically just a year later, when the Christian Democrats were formed out of a large chunk of the Liberal caucus in the National Assembly; holding just 262 seats, the Liberals were unable to pass a budget for the year 1988, and Prime Minister Nelinho Antão was forced to ask President Gabriel Marcel for a parliamentary dissolution.

In the 1982 election for the House of the Commoners, the Catholic Party won 86% of the seats, giving them 261 seats out of 300, with the Conservative Party and Democratic Party having 6% (18) and 8% (24) seats respectively.

This almost complete domination of the House of the Commoners actually came as a surprise, due to most elections in the House of Commoners resulting in the seats being split almost evenly between the three parties, although the Catholic Party or Democratic Party are usually the ones with the relative majority of seats.

In 1986, the Democratic Peoples' Union of Dtin (predecessor of the current governing party, the Wai Dtien Party), was able to win 489/491 seats available in the Lower House, and all 80 seats in the Upper House. The results were so astonishing that by Royal Decree, a triple-recount was ordered, and even with those results, another election was ordered 4 months afterward. By the next election, the DPUD increased its share to 490/491 seats available in the Lower House, but only had 79/80 seats available in the Upper House, increasing 1 seat in the Lower House but losing 1 seat in the Upper House.

In the first democratic elections held in 2013, the Hobbiest Republics, Orthodox Hobbiest Party took 85% of the seats in the 1000 person senate. This landslide majority would not last long as a split within the church saw a significant portion of the seats convert into True Visionary seats. This left the Orthodox Hobbiest party with the largest faction in terms of seats, but requiring a coalition government with some of the lesser parties in theory to offset any votes where the True Visionary party would oppose.
