First off - apologizes if this has been done, if there is a current thread. I missed it. I did have a search, I didn't find a specific thread. Perhaps I didn't search long or hard enough. If it's been done again, mods feel free to lock and delete and sorry for the spammage.

I just wanted to talk about intelligence agencies - your country must have one? What's it like? What operations has it been involved in? What power does it wield in the government of your country?

In Hrstrovokia (which is a Slavic Socialist state), there exists the National Intelligence and State Security Bureau or in Slavic - Nacionalna Obaveštajna i Biro Državna Bezbednost. This is Hrstrovokia's foreign intelligence agency and it has had a pivotal role in Hrstrovokia's history since the mid 2000s. I haven't quite gotten around to writing up a domestic intelligence agency....yet.

From the "silencing" of dissidents, defectors and members of the Hrstrovokian émigré community to its proficient use of industrial and technological espionage (the height of which was Hrstrovokia attaining the secrets of the atomic bomb in 2010) the NOBDB has played a very important part in modern Hrstrovokia and President Mirosov's rule over it.

Having checked intermittently on the other forums on Nationstates, I was a little disappointed by how little the role is for intelligence agencies - although I am fully prepared to hold my hand up and say I am 100% about this. I feel the cloak and dagger world has a lot to offer for roleplay - you don't have to have some huge conflict or war, infact, allies could (and have, if you look at the Wikileaks/NSA spying with America and Europe) be spying on each other.

I actually don't think this has been covered before...

The Federal Republic of Greater Americana maintains two intelligence agencies, one domestic and one foreign.

The Federal Investigative Agency or FIA is the domestic intelligence agency of the Federal Republic, it is responsible primarily for the investigations of criminal activity that explicitly violate Federal (rather than State) Law.

The External Intelligence Service or EIS is the foreign intelligence agency of the Federal Republic and has more in common with the United States of Columbia (a nation to our west)'s Central Intelligence Agency.

In terms of power, FIA has very little, it is an investigative service only, not a police force or similar, it carries out investigations wherein Federal Law has been broken, they cannot make arrests (that falls to the purview of the Federal Marshals) nor do they have many agents (FIA employs 6,200 people as of the current year 2025).

The EIS is more loosely regulated but only in foreign theatre, they have no power or jurisdiction whatsoever within Greater Americana.

Naval Intelligence keeps an eye on the naval strength of other nations, particularly those which are likely to be hostile to us. They also keep tabs on civilian shipping from ports in potentially hostile nations. One of the main peacetime tasks of our large submarine fleet is "watching".

Army Intelligence collects information on foreign military capabilities, including weapons development. The Takeapenny Arsenal maintains a collection of foreign weapons for evaluation and reference. The Army also collects information that would be useful during a fight on Fatatatutian territory - for example, the Air Cavalry has an up-to-date database of every site on the island big enough to land a helicopter.

Several of our major police forces, such as the national Fatatatutti Mounted Police (FMP) have their own intelligence services to keep tabs on "people of interest", usually of foreign extraction.

Fatatatutti Intelligence (FI) is an umbrella organization that coordinates information collected by the other agencies. It also has an extensive "listening" network to monitor electronic transmissions all over the globe. Clandestine "face-to-face" spying is less common but rumours that every Fatatatutian abroad is a spy have never been definitively denied.

The Ministry of Imperial Security is the intelligence agency and security agency of the Great Zhouranese Empire of the Sun. Responsible for domestic, foreign and military intelligence operations, the MIS is under the jurisdiction of the Supreme Council. The Minister of Imperial Security is chosen by the Supreme Council while the chairmen of each bureaus are chosen by the Minister of Imperial Security.

The MIS is staffed by members of the Great Imperial Army, who all participate in clandestine black operations. The agency is extremely enigmatic and highly secretive, with archives remaining top secret. Military personnel working for the MIS are regarded as mysterious by mainstream military personnel and enjoy significant latitude in the discharge of their duties, often violating moral boundaries or acquiring vast amounts of military resources to achieve their objectives. Intra-MIS dynamics are generally strained with highly intense competition amongst its own personnel, who all operate under heavy scrutiny with mistakes often leading to death.

Acting as internal security, intelligence and secret police, the ministry is tasked with ensuring the security of the empire, guarding the leadership of the empire from internal and external threats, and gathering foreign intelligence from various targets, as well as combating dissent and anti-Zhouranese activities.

The Office of Information Superiority (O-INFO) is responsible for signals intelligence, defending government systems from cyber-terrorism, operating intelligence gathering satellites, and other "distance" intelligence. Recent operations include:

• CYCLONE: Coordinated disruption of computer systems belonging to nations/groups deemed hostile to the Kingdom
• SILVER MOON: Establishment of a secure satellite communications system for government use
• SKELETON KEY: Ongoing cryptanalysis of communications by nations/groups deemed hostile to the Kingdom

The Foreign Intelligence Service (FORINT) is responsible for the protection of Oneran interests abroad and the clandestine gathering of foreign intelligence with "boots on the ground" missions. Recent operations include:

In the Victory Corporation, we have a total of three intelligence agencies. The Domestic Intelligence and Operations Agency works within the Victory Corporation's own borders, working to counter internal threats and taking charge of police investigations when needed to coordinate and gather information on potential threats. DIOA has command of one Omega Zero team, the Victory Corporation's most widely celebrated special forces unit, in addition to their own intelligence and tactical units.

Working outside of the Victory Corporation's borders is the External Threat Assessment and Analysis Agency. They are responsible for conducting operations within hostile territory and assessing potential threats to the Victory Corporation. The ETAAA has control of military special operations units, in addition to their own intelligence units and tactical teams, when they are not required for another task, and so during wartime is responsible for getting them where they need to be.

Finally, there is the Governmental Intelligence Security Division, which handles defense against other spy agencies as well as monitoring other nation's activities official and unofficial, then building a map of what those nations are doing. The GISD has one team from Omega Zero to act as a tactical team, but otherwise have only intelligence units and do not enter into tactical situations, leaving the DIOA or ETAAA to handle them instead. The GISD is more focused on strategic information and gaining an idea of what other nations have, do not have, and are doing or are not doing.

The government is considering doing so with the American CIA and especially Japan's PSIA on China's actions. As such, Verdiga is also considering loosening its pacifistic grip.

Focused on protecting Ammerinia, as well as peacekeeping, espionage, sabotage, infiltration, assassination, and foreign operations.
