Holy Jackonian General Election 2015 & 2016 RESULTS 2016

On 20th November 2015, Holy Jackonians will go to their local Polling Stations and vote in the Holy Empire's first ever General Election. It will not only mark the 1st Anniversary of Decleration Day, the founding of the Holy Empire, but the first time a Government has been Democratically elected to lead the affairs of the State. With the passing of the Voting Rights Act 2014, the General Election will be held by Single Transferable Vote (STV).

However, before the Citizens go to the Polls, everyone else in NationStates can vote in advance! In order to vote, a basic knowledge of the Holy Jackonian Political Parties will be required. Below are the description of all the Political Parties and their simplified Manifesto pledges.

The Conservative Party
Leader - Prime Minister Rebecca Cheswick

Ideology - Conservatism, Economic Liberalsim, Royalism, Commonwealth Unionism

The Conservative Party is a right wing Political Party in the Holy Jackonian Empire. It is the current ruling Party, with all 600 Seats in the Common House and 410 seats in the Noble House. The Party was founded in 2014 several days after Decleration Day (the founding of the Holy Empire) to oversee the establishment of a National, Democratic Parliament and to establish global links with both the Commonwealth of Crowns and the rest of the World. As of 2014, it's Leader is the current Prime Minister, Rebecca Cheswick, who has led several policies, including Decleration of a War on BORDURIAA WA NATION and Doom Legions, Establishment of the Government, Environmental legislation to protect the Countryside, Free Trade with other Nations, Economic prosperity and Membership of the Commonwealth of Crowns, Eurasian Treaty Alliance and the Monarchist Federation.

- To achieve an Economic surplus by 2020.
- To keep the Holy Empire in the CoC
- To increase Military Spending to 4% of GDP to fund the War effort in Borduriaa.

The Socialist Democratic Party

The Socialist Democratic Party is a left wing Political Party in the Holy Jackonian Empire. It is the oldest Opposition Party and is said to be the Opposition with the most support. It's Leader is Social Reformer, Prudence Li, and it has pledged to oppose many Policies made by the Conservative Party, such as an increase in Military spending and an official State Religion. It supports Membership of the CoC and Monarchist Federation, seeing the Monarchy as a National symbol rather than an authoritative figurehead.

Manifesto pledges,
- To reduce the amount of Privately owned Buisnesses and to Nationalise all key public services, such as Railways, Hospitals and Schools.
- To keep the Holy Empire in the CoC.
- To abolish a State religion and to introduce multi-faith centres across the Holy Empire
- To abolish Income Tax for those below the poverty line.
- To reduce involvement in the Borduriaan War and to instead organise a Peace process and agreement with the Communist Government in Borduriaa.
- To reduce the powers of the Noble House.

The Liberal Party

The Liberal Party was established after a key Socialist Democratic Party Member denounced the Holy Jackonian intervention in Borduriaa and called for immediate withdrawal from the War. Kayle Iste later left the Party to form the Anti-War Liberal Party. He was followed by several high profile Conservatives, including the former Foreign Secretary, Zeke Chandra, and the former Health Secretary. The Party has been covered regularly in the Media due to it's firm opposition to the Borduriaan War. It seeks an immediate end to the War and a peace settlement with the Communists. Formed in 2014, it campaigns for key policies such as Social Justice and an end to what it sees as 'nonscense' with the Clergical Council in the Noble House as well as a reduction in the number of Peers sitting in the House.

Manifesto pledges,
- To immediately end the Holy Jackonian involvement in Borduriaa, pull out all Troops and organise a peace settlement with the Borduriaan Communist Government.
- To abolish the Clergical Council
- To limit the powers of the Monarch.
- To abolish the State Religion and to end the construction of Sacred buildings.
- To establish accomodation for all new Migrants to end the Migrant Crisis

The National Green Party

Ideology - Social Democracy, Environmentalism, Non-Interventionism, Liberalism, Commonwealth Unionism

The National Green Party was established as a truely Environmentalist Party in 2015 to campaign for action on Climate Change, which it sees a a real threat to the Nation, and to improve the lives of those living in Cities by introducing a series of 'Green initiatives' including Reneuable fuelled Trains in St John's and Cycle lanes across the Country. The Party believes the Conservative Party is not doing enough to combat environmental problems such as heavy smog and flooding in the Countryside.

Manifesto pledges,
- To introduce Cycle lanes across every City by 2020.
- To increase funding for Science to develop Reneuable sources of energy and ways of combatting the problems of Climate Change over the next five years.
- To keep the Holy Empire in the CoC
- To continue involvement in the Bordurian War but to concentrate on negotiating a Peace process with enemy Nations.
- To abolish all Trade Tarriffs by 2020.

The Jackonian Nationalist Party
Leader - Renee Peters

Ideology - Sectarian, Nationalism, Conservative, Economic Liberalism, Jackonian Separatism, Interventionism

The Nationalist Jackonian Party was established to represent the right wing of the Holy Empire, wishing to stay commited to the original purpose of the Holy Empire, to promote Christianity and to establish a far reaching Empire in the process. It's leader is Renee Peters, who started off working for the Conservative Party before creating the JNP in 2014. The JNP remains strongly opposed to Membership of the Commonwealth of Crowns (CoC) and wants immediate withdrawal from it. It believes the CoC is gradually taking over the affairs of the State.

Manifesto pledges,
- To hold a Referendum on CoC Membership in 2017.
- To increase Military activity in Borduriaa
- To establish a 'Church in every City' programme and increase funding for religious education
- To greatly restrict immigration by setting limits and refusing entry if oversurplused.
- To increase land controlled by the Holy Empire by an extra quartre by 2020.

The National Womens' Congress Party

The NWCP came into being with the introduction of the annual Jackonian Beauty Competition, in which Feminists took to the streets of St John's demanding the Contest be cancelled due to it's demeaning and sexist nature. Although the annual Beauty contest contunies, the protesters didn't give up, and the protest organiser and equal rights campaigner Falala Yeats established the NWCP to bring around equality for women and an end to the Beauty contest once and for all.

Manifesto pledges,
- To scrap the Annual Jackonian Beauty Contest
- To invest in equality programmes for all schools to teach about sexial equality
- To hold a Referendum on Membership of the CoC by 2020.
- To increase Foreign Diplomatic Embassy building two fold over the next 5 years.
- To abolish all Nuclear Weapons in the Holy Empire and to concentrate on a peaceful withdrawal from the Bordurian War

The Prime Minister of the Union, Christian Leoni, has asked the Parliament to take a decision for the vote of the nation in the Holy Jackonian General Election. The Parliament has voted who should our country vote for and these are the results of the poll:

For the Conservative Party:
- 78 MPs of the United Right.
- 22 MPs of the People's Center.
Total: 100 votes.

For the Liberal Party:
- 62 MPs of Liberty Project.
- 14 MPs of The Radicals.
- 11 MPs of The Plurality.

For the Socialist Democratic Party:
- 11 MPs of the Democratic Party.

The Conservative Party and Socialist Democratic Party are nearly level in the Opinion Polls. The Conservatives have gone down several Seats where's the SDP has risen in the Polls. The Conservatives are on 276, SDP on 248, Liberals on 32, NGP 39, JNP on 3 and NWC 2.

The JNP has announced it's support for the Newly elected Fascist Governmnet in Marscida and it's senior leadership have traveled there to attend RightCon, a convention of right wing Governmnets, Political Parties and groups to discuss the future of the right wing in the Commonwealth of Crowns. The Conservatives, although right wing, have refused to attend, stating that they do not wish to be associated with Fascism in any capacity and have criticised the JNP for supporting the Forza Nuova Party in Marscida. The SDP and Liberal Party has dismissed RightCon as "rubbish"and "drivel" respectively.

The War against Borduriaa has ended. The defeat of Communism in the Country of Borduriaa has been celebrated across the Commonwealth of Crowns and in the Holy Empire. The Conservatives were responsible for organising an Allied assault against the Communists and their victory has shown the Holy Jackonians that their Nation would be stronger under a Conservative Governmnet. The victory could provide a potential poll boost for the Conservatives and be bad news for the Liberals, who were most against the War.

Political Experts have told JBC News today that the only way the Conservatives can win a Majority is to do a deal with the Nationalists and Liberals. With the 301 Seat benchmark to get s majority missed by the Conservatives alone, combining efforts with the JNP and Liberals could get them to 330 Seats and a Majority Governmnet.

There have been no suggestions of Political Alliances yet, but the Prime Minister, Rebecca Cheswick, told JBC News this morning that,

"What we need is a stable Governmnet, and I am willing to work with CRs that can get us the stable Governmnet we need. If there are opposition Parties that can get us into Governmnet again to continue Jackonia's upward trajectory, then fine, I will work with them."

When asked the same question, about creating Coalitions, the SDP Leader Prudence Li said,

"What is important is for this Country to reform. We need to solidify Jackonia's progress, not by lurching it too far right and effectively creating a Nationalist State where no one would want to set up business or live and work, but by introducing what we think are fairer social policies and buffering Conservative legislation with Socialist common sense. Would I do a deal with other Parties to get us into Governmnet? Well we will have to think about that, but what I would say is that the Liberals have been working hard for us not to go to War again, and with a worrying Military build up in the Region, maybe we should take note of their warnings."

With STV voting, it seems that a Coalition is more than likely. The JBC will be hosting the one and only Political Debate on the 21st October, marking a month until the Election results are announced. The debates will be the first time all Leaders have met to argue their case to the people together.

Today there was a heated debate between Party Leaders hosted by JBC News (Jackonian Broadcasting Company) as part of the campaign for the General Election next month. The Leaders of the Conservatives, SDP, Liberals, JNP, NGP and WNC took to the podiums to express their visions for the Empire and their Party's plans for the future. Positions from left to right was,

Topics including Immigration, Commonwealth of Crowns Membership, international Wars, Economy and Employment, Healthcare, Housing and Education were brought up, with some additional questions from members of the audience. Around 46 million watched the Debate.

The debate started with each Party Leader making an opening statement before questions on each topic were asked by the panel, which included broadcasters from several broadcasting Companies besides JBC. The debate lasted 2 hours and each Leader ended with a closing statement.

The aftermath polls indicate that the current Prime Minister and Conservative Leader may have won the debate. However, SDP Party Leader, Prudence Li, was also praised in responses and clarity, putting her close behind the Prime Minister in terms of debate performance. The JNP Leader, Renee Peters, also performed well despite heated exchanges with other Party Leaders on topics such as Immigration and Education. The main disappointment of the night was Cooper Janssen, National Green Party Leader, who commentators say slipped up when asked about criticism of the Conservatives Environmental policy.
