In the Utabian Islands, all genres of music are generally accepted. The most popular genres are issued by the Utabian Hot 100, issued in February 17, 1996.
The very first number one single was "One Sweet Day" by Mariah Carey and Boys II Men. The current number one song is "I'm in Love with a Monster" by Fifth Harmony, as of September 16, 2015.

Different regions have different traditional musical styles that are locally enjoyed. As a whole, Opabinians are not particularly selective about what sort of music they listen to. It is common for an Opabinian's playlist to include heavy metal, rap, EDM, and indigenous folk music.

Unlike most nations in East Asia, where pop music dominates, the most popular genre in Zhouran, mainly for the younger generation, is Zhouranese-Style Electronic Music, also known as Z-Style Electronic or Z-Style Music. It is a genre of electronic dance music that originated from Zhouran during the early 1990s. Characterized by repeating melodic phrases, 125 to mid 140 beats per minute (BPM) tempo, a form that builds up and down throughout a track, and mixing of layers with distinctly foreshadowed build-up and release, Z-Style Electronic songs tend to be long to allow progression and have sufficiently sparse opening and closing sections to facilitate mixing.

Z-Style Pop, created between 1996 and 1998, focuses on vocals and melodies. Although Z-Style Electronic songs tend to use vocal samples mixed in with the beats, Z-Style Pop songs use full sets of lyrics. The subgenre is a fusion of Z-Style Electronic and Zhouranese pop music, commonly referred to as Z-pop.

Hard Z-Style, known for its strong, hard and aggressive sound, a deep, hard-sounding kick drum, intense faded or reversed basslines accompanying the beat, a dissonant synth melody, and detuned and distorted sounds, was created between 1998 and 2000.

Soft Z-Style, created between 1997 and 1999, is characterized by slow to fast pace melodies, house-like progression, simple rhythm structure, and a primary focus on the melody rather than the beat. The melodies are typically played on an acoustic instrument such as a piano, violin, or saxophone. Soft Z-Style music features soothing piano riffs, trance-like melodies and house-like beats.

Zhouranese patriotic music is also quite popular in Zhouran, all thanks to strong nationalist and patriotic sentiments. This form of music first appeared in late 1867. There are two types: Symphonic Patriotic music, which has nationalistic and patriotic contents with ensembles ranging from chamber groups to large orchestras, and the characteristic march-like, upbeat Patriotic Parade music, in which the lyrics and imagery have a clear optimistic, patriotic content and is carefully composed.

There's a lot of electronic music in Umbra Ac Silentium. According to surveys of music released by Umbraciums in the last year, over 83% involved electronic aspects, and 37% exclusively involved electronic aspects. We also have a homegrown genre known as "punk orchestra" that is very popular as well. Punk orchestra involves a lot of pianos and pipe organs but contains less classical vocal content. It was essentially our "rebellious" music phase, which encompassed a return to tradition, out of line with the general progressive nature of our nation. Music imports are also quite popular, with South America being the largest area where music is imported from. In the more abstract sense, there is a strong industrial feel to the most popular Umbracium music; sharp contrasts, repetitive sections, and a certain underlying coldness of content.

As with other art forms, music in Brellach is influenced by a combination of their spirituality (and, therefore, nature), and by tribal customs. Instrumentation consists primarily of wooden percussive and wind instruments that are unique to Brellach.

Among city-dwellers, singing without instrumentation is more typical, with various religious songs being favoured by the populace. Singing is often part of religious activities such as veneration of the goddess, as the Divine Glory is worshiped through song and dance. The exception is during major festivals, when bands of wooden instrumental performers can be found on the streets playing music that could only be described as tribal in nature.

Within the tribes singing is also common, and many of the same songs are sung by the tribes. They too use wooden instruments of various types (which city-dwellers most likely inherited from them, given their own tribal origins), though they use these more commonly than city-dwellers - many tribes play music before they sleep, as a means of seeking the protection of the Divine Glory at night.

Major musical performances - either recorded or live on stage - do not occur in Brellach as they do in other countries, and there is no such thing as a 'music industry'. Accordingly, there are no particularly famous musical artists, and the origins of most of their songs and melodies are largely unknown - this being true even for more recent works.
