The Infantry

De Infanterie van de lijn

Most of the Koninklijke Landmacht is composed of line infantry, these being men equipped with linear muskets and trained to march, as it were, in lines. This particular approach is required, as the linear muskets have an accurate range of about 50 yards, thus requiring that they be fired in volleys to achieve any appreciable effect upon the enemy. Linear muskets are essentially a form of railgun which propels a round at extreme speed towards a target. Coolant used to keep the muskets from melting due to the friction generated by firing of the musket is expelled from pores on the muzzle of the weapon, creating a significant cloud of steam which, on still days, can reduce visibility to nothing in only a few volleys.

Because of the obvious issue involved in marching shoulder to shoulder in an environment filled with explosive bullets flying through the air at face-melting speeds, some protection must be provided to the infantry. This exists in the form of the kinetic shield, which converts kinetic, x-ray, and various other intense concentrations of energy into sound and visible light. The result is that when a weapon, for example a musket round, strikes the shield, it promptly expends all of its energy in the form of a loud noise and flash of light, the sudden cessation of movement is frequently rather damaging to the round itself as well, of course. The shield design has several weaknesses, in that it does not protect against low-energy weapons, for example, arrows, thrown objects, and enemy soldiers themselves, unless they are wearing some form of energized armor or wielding energy weapons of some kind. Further issues include such dishonorable devices as landmines and poison gas, although the latter is addressed by some regiments who issue gas masks.

Kinetic shields generally encompass an area in which a single battalion can march in close order, which means that marching ability is quite important if you do not wish to have your legs blown off. In order to avoid carrying around a great ugly shield projector pole, kinetic shields are generally integrated into the regimental standard or flag, with the flag itself being carried by one man while an aid carries the generator itself.

Dutch Infantry are very well equiped as the total size of the army is so small that every man can be given the best weapons Troepen Arms can produce. Each mans weapon is brand new and each soldier is required to spend 3 hours a day in target practice. The Dutch bayonet is very different than the average one in that it is not shaped like a sword. The Dutch bayonet is a retractible 12 inch powered spike attached underneath the gunbarrel. This usually gives Dutch troops the first attack in melee but it has shown itself ineffective in city fights or trenches due to its massive size. The fighting spike also allows Dutch soldiers to counter enemy cavalry, using their muskets as powered spears.

Lichte Infanterie

The Lichte Infanterie serve the same function as the Jeagers in other Armies. Equipped with repeater weapons and other such equipment it is equipped to deal with armies that are not equipped with shields.

Commandotroepen

The Commandotroepen fills to roles in the Koninklijke Landmacht serving both Skirmishers, as Grenediers (depending on the situation), and they even serve as Royal Marines on Dutch Ships. Each soldier is equiped with a clip fed linear musket. These are less powerful than a standard linear musket due to thier smaller caliber but they allow the Commandotroepen to put out many more shots than a Line Infantry regiment. For every squad (10 men) 1 man is equipped with a Linear Rifle to serve as fire support. The use of the clip fed musket (despite all its flaws) allows for the Commandotroepen to battle enemy Marines, even with their smaller numbers.

Zware Infanterie

The Zware Infanterie are the heavy infantry of the Koninklijke Landmacht. They serve the same purpose as Grenediers from other armies world wide. The Zware Infanterie are all tall standing over 6 feet and train regularily. The Zware Infanterie use the gernades of old but fire them using hand mortors giving them increased range. The Zware Infanterie carry with them sword bayonets which they use inplace of the normal spike (for the Koninklijke Landmacht atleast).

De Korpsen van Artillerie

Postby Empire Netherlands » Tue Jan 26, 2010 1:59 pm

The De Korpsen van Atrillerie consists of four different types of regimnets. The first is the De korpsen van paardArtillerie (horse artillery), the second is De korpsen van de gebiedsartillerie(field artillery), the third is De Artillerie van de belegering (siege artillery) and the fourth is De Artillerie van de spoorweg (Railroad Artillery). The Dutch Artillery Commanders prefer faster moving artillery to slow dug in ones. Wanting the guns to keep up with the Infantry.

De korpsen van paardArtillerie

De korpsen van paardArtillerie is the horse artillery part of De Korpsen van Artillerie. Unlike the horse artillery of old it was rebuilt after the second great war with the flesh of horses replaced with the cold steel of tanks. Unlike the Horse Artillery before them the remodeled korpsen van paardArtillerie can get caught up in combat using thier own kenetic shields. These are much smaller covering the tank only but they still provide the protection of the infantry carried versions. The De korpsen van paardArtillerie carries smaller caliber weapons then their less mobile brothers in the korpsen van de gebiedsartillerie. There are four major types of paardArtillerie. Each serves different purposes. Recently a new paardArtillerie was added. The Mk XXI is built to support line units. Equipped with multiple layers of shields, and a 18lb gun. Currently it is rare and unlike the other paardArtillerie they do not operate in squadrons/batteries instead they are individually assigned to Regiments as needed. There is about 1 regiment assigned to each major colony. The paardArtillerie is not capable of standing up to enemy cavalry even with their heavy shielding. Dutch tactics with them is to use them as a cheaper form of Cavalry that carries a long distance punch, usually using them to outflank infantry units and tear them apart from outside Musket range, they avoid using them in situations that would put them into direct contact with enemy cavalry because the vehicles, while able to devestate cavalry at range, are very vulnerable up close and cavalry power weapons can annihalte them in short order.

The Mk XI is built to be a stand off artillery parking itself behind the lines and firing over them with is 24lb gun.

Mk XIII
Image

The Mk XIII is produce to assist in frontline combat and to combat cavalry formations with numerous holes for linear muskets poking out from around it(12 to the left and right, 6 back, 2 forward), along with a sinlge 3lb on the front
Mk XX
Image

The Mk XX is built to give extra firepower to skirmisher formations with its Breech loading 6lb gun.

Mk XXI
Image

Equipped with multiple layers of shields, and a 18lb gun, the Mk XXI is built to support line units. Currently it is rare and unlike the other paardArtillerie they do not operate in squadrons/batteries instead they are individually assigned to Regiments as needed.

De korpsen van de gebiedsartillerie

Mk 25 1.25 support weapon
Image

The Mk 25 is one of the few functioning rapid fire linear muskets. The Mk 25 has a large set up, requiring a team of 6 (commander, gunner, loader, barrel changer, runner, barrel cooler). The weapon can put out an almost constant rate of fire but badly trained crews can suffer serious casualties. The holds 10 musket rounds in a circular loader in the back. This circle is hand cranked and each round fires when it reaches the barrel. The barrel will heat up extremely fast and needs to be changed every few rounds. The Barrel Cooler stands there and moniters the coolant covers on the barrel to keep it functioning for longer. This weapon is extremely expensive and only a few batteries of it serve in the Army.

Mk 30 2lb field artillery piece

The Mk 30 is built to provide rapid firing support to infantry units. Each regiment has 3 guns assigned to it, giving the regiment some extra firepower. It is very easy to fire and it isn't much use agianst IFV's or other such units but it can contribute a fair bit of firepower to a volly. The gun has an autoloader that helps it put out an impressive rate of fire, averaging 30 shots a minute thanks to the use of an autoloader. Standard ammunition is HE shells as the gun is to small to make them usefull AP guns. The gun is usually mounted on the back of a truck to give them extra speed. The Mk 30 can be elvated to almost 90 degrees and it is used as an anti air gun when required. Unlike most Dutch Cannon the 2lb isn't a linear weapon, instead it uses old style weapons, like old age anti-air guns. This allows it to fire much faster, at the cost of power and range.

Mk 35 6lb field artillery

The Mk 35 was built to provide extra firepower to Mk 30 batteries, maintianing the mobility of its younger brother it is usually mounted on trucks and for every 3 Mk 30's attached to a regiment there is one Mk 35 attached. The gun has some extra firepower but it loses its rate of fire. Firing an average of 4 shots per minute it can also counter light viehicles in battle but it is usually uses HE rounds still. Like the Mk 30 it can be elvated to almost 90 degrees and it is used as an anti air gun when required.

Mk 40 8lb field artillery

The Mk 40 makes up the second largest majority of the korpsen van de gebiedsartillerie's dedicated artillery batteries. The gun has a rate of 2 shots per minute and it has a long range, not as much as 12lb guns but it can limber and unlimber at a faster rate. It is used for anti-tank warfare is a very longbarreled weapon. It also has canister rounds to devestate unshielded infantry.

Mk 43 10lb field artillery

The Mk 43 is the largest group of standard field batteries used in the Dutch army. Firing around 2 rounds per minute it almost matches the range of 12lb guns, but it can be moved much faster. 10lb guns make up a number of batteries and they are the standard artillery gun.

Mk 44 12lb field artillery

The Mk 44 is one of the rarer field artillery pieces in the Dutch army, due to their slow firing rate and how difficult they are to manouver. Rarely fielded as a battery 1-3 are usually attached to Mk 43 batteries to add anti-infantry firepower to the units, they carry a majority of HE shells and canister shot, with a few AP shells on hand just incase. The Mk 44 fires 1.5 shots a minute.

De Artillerie van de belegering (Siege Artillery)

De Artillerie van de belegering is a fairly rare arm of de Korpsen van Atrillerie. It is occasionaly employed on the field but the Arm lacks the mobility the Dutch prefer. It hasn't seen combat in years though, and most of the Arm lacks military experiance.

Mk 48 88mm Siege Artillery

The Mk 48's see the most actual combat experiance in the entire Artillerie van de belegering. Occasionaly 1 will be assigned to a Mk 43 battery, providing very long range firepower to the unit, and a faster rate of fire, but at they have less range then other cannons, because they are Breech loaded weapons. Batteries have been employed during actual combat, three guns seeing action in the Tuscany system. In sieges the Mk 48 provides rapid fire to outer walls. The Mk 48 fires 4 shots a minute. The Mk 48 is a favorite amongs militia units as it can bring heavy firepower and is fairly easy to maitain. Militia versions have the ability to be traversed up to 87 degrees and allows them to target aircraft. Usually militia employ them in static emplacements.

Mk 50 100mm Siege Artillery

The Mk 50 is the medium power Siege artillery. Unlike the Mk 48 the Mk 50 does not use preloaded charges, giving it much longer range at the expense of fire rate. No Mk 50 battery has seen action and the troops are green as grass. They can put out 1.5 shots a minute.

Mk 53 120mm Siege Artillery

The Mk 53 is the heavy guns of de Korpsen van Atrillerie the Mk 53 can engage targets up past 15 miles, and each shot carries alot of explosive. They fire about a round every 1.5 minute.

Mk 62 138mm mortor

The Mk 62 is used to fire over enemy defenses. Using precussion caps they blow up above enemy positions and send a hail of shrapnel and fire into their positions. Despite the need to have large tractors to move the guns around, they have found a spot in the hearts of Dutch Generals.

De Artillerie van de spoorweg (Railroad Artillery)

De Artillerie van de spoorweg is an arm of de Korpsen van Atrillerie. These guns have never seen service and when they are incorporated into battle plans (during combat exercises) they are used to break heavy enemy fortifications and to combat ships in orbit. If used in the field each gun carries enough explosive power to cut through infantry shields, and the soldiers taking cover under them. The Railroad Artillery is a shining moment for Troepen arms, as every gun is a breech loader. The Dutch army does not field many of these guns at once, and in reality has many more in storage. The only exception to this is the "Verwoesting" Howizter.

Mk 72 240mm "Tuimelschakelaar" Howitzer

The Mk 72 is the smallest of De Artillerie van de spoorweg, each gun requiring teams of 30 to fire the gun alone, with another 30 for maintenance. On the rails the Mk 72 can move surprisingly fast, up to 22km per hour. The Mk 72 requires a large portion of a train for its ammunition, loading crane, gun, and crew. The Mk 72 can achieve a fire rate of one shot every 7 minutes, in ideal conditions.

Mk 73 305mm "Donker Paard" Howitzer

The Mk 73 is the unloved child of de Artillerie van de spoorweg. Requiring the entirety of the average train to operate it requires more logistical manouvering then the Mk 72, and it lacks the punch of the Mk 74. It has its uses though, and the planned uses for the Mk 73 are to shoot down cruisers and if necessary assist in land battles. The Mk 73 can match the speed of the Mk 72 and it can put out a shot every 9 minutes. The Mk 73 needs 35 men to fire and 75 for logistics

Mk 74 380mm "Verpletterende" Howitzer

The Mk 74 is the dream posting for an officer in de Artillerie van de spoorweg. Each gun has most of de Artillerie van de spoorwegs budget lavished on them. Each gun requires an enlarged train to move the gun and transport the required equipment to operate it. Each gun can devastate fortifications or ships. The Mk 74 can move along the rails at 16km per hour and they can fire about 1 shot every 25 minutes. The Mk 74 has a crew of 80 to man the gun and 330 to keep it operating.

Mk 76 520mm Howitzer

Little information is present on the Mk 76 other then it has been produced as an inbetween of the Mk 74 and the Mk 76. (A.k.a. this means more info to come)

Mk 75 800mm "Verwoesting" Howizter

The Verwoesting is a massive cannon, stationed in Amsterdam, where it can hit most of the European continent. The Verwoesting can single handedly devastate regiments, cities, or ships wherever it fires. The Verwoesting requires 140 men to fire, along with numerous tractors and other equipment, and over 600 men and machines to keep it operating. The Verwoesting can put out one shot ever 3 hours. It is confirmed that King William ordered atleast two more of these monster guns after the Portugese-Dutch War. Two are known to be complete, the Verwoesting III (Destined to Indonesia before being rerouted to Jacksonville, Florida) and the "Ruimte Kanon" (Unknown location in Dutch Brazil). The Ruimte Kanon is a heavily modified Verwoesting that has had its barrel lengthened and its base strengthened to give it even more range then the Verwoesting, the power of the shot (and the required minimum firing angle) actually keeps the rounds from possibly hitting the ground (except in extremely rare circumstances) on earth (the round will almost always break the atmosphere (where it can be exploded remotely)), making it only effective against targets in atmosphere or in space.

Troepen Arms

Postby Empire Netherlands » Sat Aug 21, 2010 11:47 pm

Troepen Arms is the main arms supplier of the Netherlands. Based out of Amsterdam it is a huge factory, employing thousands of people. The company produces everything from vehicles to boots. Almost every thing a Dutch soldier is equiped with is from Troepen arms. Troepen arms is also one of the few producers of Breech loading weaponry, while they are not as powerfull as Austrian made guns they are fairly reliable and accurate at range. Troepen also works on many of the ships of the Dutch Navy. Troepen Arms even provides Infantry units to the Dutch army, these are equipped with weapons that are still in protoyping phase, or ones that were to expensive to give to the standing army.

One of the new series of weapons Tropen Arms has rolled of the assembly line is the Williams Repeater series. Assigned to colonial soldiers and when soldiers are planning to fight unshielded enemies. The Williams Repeater series of weapons fills most of the needs that any regiment could want. With WR 1 and WR 2 rifles allow standard soldiers to fight off large numbers of unshielded foes and WR 3 heavy repeaters provide heavy support fire to the regiments.

The Airforce

Postby Empire Netherlands » Wed Sep 01, 2010 1:34 pm

The Dutch Airforce is relativaly powerful, but it is the Dutch's weakest link. With very few wings of fighters or bombers.

Mk 101G "Eend" Fighter

Image

The Mk 101G is the last in the line of Mk 101 fighters, and has been totally retired in the Dutch military but is still present in some corporate forces. The Mk 101G uses a powerfull jet running down the length of the craft and its wire frame is covered in steel and it has a single shield. Equipped with two forward facing old age chain guns it can shred unshielded aircraft but agianst shielded targets it is near usless.

MK 110A "Adelaar" Heavy fighter

Image

The Mk 110 is the standard combat aircraft in the Dutch Airforce. It has two shield blocks inside the aircraft, along with 1 forward facing 30mm gun, 6 forward facing 20mm guns, and one rear facing 20mm, the Mk 110 is an extremely powerful fighter. With a crew of 3, a pilot, a radio operator/bombardier, and a rear gunner. The plane is knows for being difficult to take off and land in. The Adelaar is very peculiar with the ability to pull of an instantaneous 180 degree turn at high speeds but if the plane is damage this is very risky as the turn puts alot of stress on the frame.

Mk 110B "Gier" Fighter-Bomber

The Gier is a modified version of the Adelaar built to work as a fighter bomber. Built very similarily to the Mk 110A the only difference is smaller engines and the forward armament is changed to 6 30mm gun. Also adding the capacity to carry two 300lb bombs. The Gier is slower then the Adelaar but maitians its instintanous turning ability. The Gier is also fitted with another shield block which gives it some extra survival in its attack runs.

Mk 110C "Ekster" Interceptor

The Ekster is another modification on the Adelaar, built to fill the roll of a pure fighter. Equipped with incredably powerful engines and a strengthened airframe the Ekster is capable of achieving frightening speeds. Carrying 4 20mm and one 30mm cannon facing forward. The plane has been turned into a single seat fighter, with the space formally turned over to other crewmen being exchanged with powerful ECM, radar jamming, assorted stealth systems, and a rear mounted system known as the "Helder vonk". The Helder vonk system is a self targetting high powered flash beam. It targets enemy cockpits and attempts to blind the opposing pilot. The Ekster only carries a single shield generator to make space for the larger engines.

MK 201 "Pelicaan" Bomber

The Mk 201 is the tatical bomber of the Dutch Air Force. With four shield blocks along side 4 bubble turrets, on at the nose, one at the rear, and one on the top and bottem, each containing quad .50s. The bomber can also carry 5000 pounds of ordanace.

Mk 135 "Valk" Bomber

Image

The Mk 135 is a close air support bomber. Carrying a shield block, two forward facing 30mm guns, and a rear facing 20mm gun. It also can carry 1 1000lb.
