Arson: There is no specific crime referred to as "arson", but acts that may fall under "arson" are criminalised. The burning of unoccupied public or private property conducted with intent to do so falls under the category of first-class vandalism, and carries a maximum sentence of five years in prison. If the property in question has occupants at the time of the crime's occurrence, the charge of attempted unlawful killing is received for each survivor and the charge of unlawful killing is received for each non-survivor, in addition to the charge of first-class vandalism. This can result in a very lengthy sentence, with a minimum of twenty years in prison if an unlawful killing was found to have occurred.

Graffiti: Falls under second-class vandalism, carrying a maximum sentence of one year in prison.

Non-heterosexual orientation, acts, and marriage: A law concerning sodomy was in place from 1653 to 1962, specifically restricting not only the acts of oral and anal sex, but also "associating with members of the same sex for the purpose of sodomy or immoral romance" (the latter meaning non-heterosexual romance.) This law, the Romancing Act 1653, was superseded by the Defence of Marriage Act 1962, which legalised "sodomy", but set the age of consent at age 21, significantly higher than the non-sodomy age of consent of 16. In addition, it also defined marriage as being between "one man and one woman", and that any pending marriages would have to be approved by either the Church of Palmania (in Palmania) or the Church of Nersland (in areas outside of Palmania). The age of consent for non-heterosexual relations has since been lowered to 16, but the provision on marriage remains in place.

Polyamory and polygamy: There are no laws relating to "polyamory" due to the repeal of the sodomy laws, but polygamy is also verboten; see above.

Racism, sexism, and ableism: Employers and all groups offering services are not allowed to discriminate on the basis of race or ethnicity, biological sex, sexual orientation, religious or political affiliation, or disability. To do so is not a criminal offence, but you are liable to be tried in a civil court of law for it.

The status of religion: The Church of Nersland is the official church in all areas outside of the autonomous region of Palmania, and it is responsible for maintaining the civil registry and eligible to collect a believers' tax, as outlined in the Church of Nersland Act 1700. In Palmania, the Church of Palmania maintains the civil registry in that territory, but is forbidden by the devolved Palman National Assembly to collect a believers' tax. Nevertheless, freedom of religion is respected and encouraged by both the government and the state churches.

The status of irreligion: Freedom of religion is also said to encompass freedom of irreligion, and about one-eighth of the population identifies as non-religious. However, irreligion is frowned upon, though very rarely persecuted, by some sectors of society and, to a much lesser extent, government (seeing as how marriage cannot be conducted without approval by a state church, although church officials are not known to refuse a marriage based upon lack of faith.)

Torture: Use of torture by governmental or military authorities falls under simply the crime of torture, carrying a maximum sentence of ten years in prison. Use of torture by civilians on anyone else falls automatically under the attempted unlawful killing or unlawful killing charges.

Animal abuse: The crime of cruelty to animals carries a maximum sentence of five years in prison.

Trespassing: The crime of unlawful entry carries a maximum sentence of six months in prison.

Child policy: There is no limit on the amount of children one person may have.

Sex outside of marriage: It is legal, but it is generally frowned upon by society. The issue of making contraceptives available under the national healthcare system has been hotly debated as of late, with disagreement between officials and members of the Church of Palmania, which supports increased contraceptive availability, and the Church of Nersland, which opposes it.

Divorce: A provision of the Defence of Marriage Act 1962 that banned divorce outside of cases concerning adultery was superseded by the Divorce Act 1975, which legalised divorce and remarriage. However, a church official may refuse to approve a marriage if he believes that there are issues in the partnership that will likely lead to divorce, although this decision can be appealed to local authorities.

Impersonation: Illegal, unless done as part of a comedy/political/public stunt.

Immigration laws: An immigration quota was in place from 1925 to 1981, but has since been repealed by the Freedom of Movement Act 1981. Immigrants must obtain permanent residency by legal means, or must otherwise have a visa registered with the government.

Abortion: Abortion is illegal, except in cases where continuing with pregnancy may cause undue harm to the mother, cases of conception by rape, or cases of conception by incest.

Theft: The charge of theft carries a maximum sentence of three years in prison.

Religion in public school: Many schools are either partially funded by (in the case of national schools) or controlled by (in the case of "public schools") either the Church of Nersland, the Church of Palmania, or the Roman Catholic Church. As such, most primary and secondary schools have classes concerning religion. In national schools, however, religious education is required to feature the various sects of Christianity, Judaism, Islam, Hinduism, Buddhism, Shinto, and Germanic neopaganism at some point, and it is mandated (though not entirely enforced) that as little bias as possible features in the education. Many school functions, public or otherwise, are opened by a prayer.

Recreational drug usage: Tobacco and alcohol are both legal, and they may be purchased and consumed legally by all persons over the age of 18. All drug usage that is not mandated by a licenced medical professional (i.e. a doctor or nurse) is forbidden. The crime of possession of an illicit substance carries a maximum sentence of one to three years in prison, depending on the classification of the drug(s) in question, and the crime of distribution or intended distribution of an illicit substance carries a maximum sentence of seven years in prison.

Weapons owned by citizens: All persons above the age of 18 are permitted to purchase and possess firearms that are not automatic, as well as certain kinds of blades (barring knives such as butterfly knives, but permitting most swords.) These weapons must be registered with a local authority, and failure to do so, categorised in the penal code as possession of an unregistered weapon, carries a maximum sentence of one year in prison.

Hunting and fishing: Both are legal for specific species and during specific seasons. Hunting and fishing for, and/or poaching, protected species, referred to as predation of protected wildlife, carries a maximum sentence of ten years in prison. Hunting and fishing for unprotected species out of season, referred to as unseasonal hunting, carries a maximum sentence of six months in prison.

Slavery: Slavery was permitted until the passing of the Abolition Act 1766, and up until that point it was common for blacks and Yellowmen to be purchased from foreign lands for use as slave labour. These freed slaves, however, often joined the ranks of peasants in stasbinnens, an arguable variant of serfdom where all landless peoples were required to be in the employ of a landed person, usually on their farms. This system was abolished with the passage of the Abolition Act 1903.

Human trafficking: The crime of forcing involuntary disappearance, which also includes the crime of coercing involuntary movement, carries a minimum sentence of fifteen years in prison.

Freedom of speech: Protected by the Instrument of Government 1902. Minor restrictions concerning speech "clearly aiming at inciting prejudicial or persecutory action" were introduced in the Protection of Individual Liberty Act 1979.

Gambling: Formerly outlawed by the Immorality Act 1680. The gambling provision in this act was superseded by the Legalisation of Gambling Act 1943, which allowed gambling institutions to be operated only within Ainland.

Prostitution/Escort services: Outlawed by the Immortality Act 1680. The crime of prostitution alone carries a maximum sentence of four years, whereas the crime of involvement in a prostitution operation, normally reserved for discovered pimps, carries a maximum sentence of twelve years in prison.

The Republic of Isla Gazebó is a small island nation with an area of 92 212 km2. It became independent in 1828, and is today a free, democratic, progressive and peaceful nation. Isla Gazebó has a very high human development index, free health care and a minimal military. We are not communist, dammit!

Arson: Illegal when done to public property, or private property without permit signed by both the property owner and the proper issuing authority.
Graffiti: See Trespassing.
Polygamy: Illegal in all states. The Federal District, governed by the National Legislature, does not have the power to make laws about marriage or divorce.
Racism: Illegal. Encompasses discrimination, acts of violence, and hate speech.
Sexism: Illegal. Encompasses discrimination, acts of violence, and hate speech.
Ableism: Illegal. Encompasses discrimination, acts of violence, and hate speech.
Religious persecution: Illegal. Encompasses discrimination, acts of violence, and hate speech.
Atheism: Legal (as is freedom of religion).
Torturing of criminal: Legal in some forms, but only at the Federal level, and only done to convicted felons.
Torturing of citizens: Legal in some forms, but only at the Federal level, and only done to convicted felons.[/b]
Animal abuse: Illegal.
Trespassing: Illegal (punishable by fine and/or imprisonment in all states and in the Federal District).
Having more than three children: Legal.
Sex before marriage: Illegal. Punishable minimally by entrance into a child support program (both mother and father) in all states and in the Federal District. Many states also require pre-family counseling, which is available in most religious circles. Religious pre-family counseling is not government-supported due to laissez-faire policies regarding religion. Most states highly recommend that the parents then marry, although the law cannot enforce this.
Divorce: Legal, but massively expensive. A divorce in most states, when the marriage was performed by a religious organisation, requires the marrying church (or denomination) to annul the marriage. (Most churches do not do this, and the Jewish community forbids it in most cases.)
Sports: Legal. A massive part of the country's culture, at both the casual and competitive levels.
Impersonation: Illegal, unless done as part of a comedy/political/public stunt.
Immigration: To ensure that all foreigners wishing to emigrate to Damukuni do so in a manner that allows the government to recognize them as legal citizens, Damukuni has a lengthy immigration process. No person from a nation known as an enemy, except defectors or refugees (granted special status upon proof by Immigration) may enter the country. Because Damukuni has a land border with unorganised territory, strict border control is paramount.
Abortion: Illegal in all states and in the Federal District, except for when the life of the mother is threatened (to be determined by three medical doctors and one gynecologist).
Stem-cell research: Embryonic stem-cell research is illegal in all states and in the Federal District. Adult placental stem-cell research is legal, and funded by many NPOs.
Theft: Illegal (punishable by the states).
Religion in public school: Legal, except for religious speech that incites hate or violence against people of other faiths.
Marijuana and other recreational/medicinal drugs: Legal. No age limit. However, federal law holds that those under the influence assume full responsibility for their actions beforehand, and deals harsher punishments to those who commit a crime while stoned.
Alcohol: In all states except the Free States (Northern F.S., Central F.S., Eastern F.S.) and in the Federal District, the legal drinking age is 21; in the Free States, the legal age is 18. In all states and in the Federal District, no bartender can legally serve a "visibly intoxicated" person or anyone under the legal drinking age. Exceptions: Religious organisations (such as the Damukunian Catholic Church) may serve wine to their parishioners under the drinking age. The North East State Jewish Communities are also allowed to serve wine to minors during religious feasts and other such observances. Any religious organisations wishing to serve wine to minors must undergo a special Religious Alcohol Training Course, which is overseen by the Damukunian Catholic Church and North East State Jewish Communities.
Weapons owned by citizens: Legal for the purposes of hunting and self-defence.
Hunting and fishing: Legal, but regulated by the states. Hunting and fishing in the Federal District is legal only in places approved by the National Legislature.
Slavery: Illegal.
Human trafficking: Damukuni has launched, and been a part of, international investigations involving countries that overtly legalise human trafficking.
Freedom of speech: Legal, except for speech that incites violence or other harmful action toward a person or group (punishable by fines/prison; varies by state).
Gambling: Legal for ages 21 and older in most states; banned in the Federal District. States heavily regulate private gambling to make sure odds are equal for all.
Prostitution/Escort services: Prostitution is banned, punishable by court-ordered sex education (not regulated by the government but understood as a program with certification of completion within a period of 6 to 8 weeks). Escort services, pimping, brothels, and other such services are also banned in all states and in the Federal District.

News in the Imperium:
As of late, Galactic Buster Missiles are in development and are close to being a reality. In other news, super-powered FoldSpace drives have allowed interuniversal travel. The military and expansionist forces have capitalized on this, enacting a Manifest Destiny-esque mindset.
