Petrol prices in your nation?

Postby Stormaen » Wed Dec 17, 2014 4:28 pm

There's been a lot in the news lately about falling oil prices. With that in mind, what's the price of petrol in your nation? Has it gone up or down?

Stormaen imports almost all of its oil, so prices have been falling alongside current trends.

On average in Stormaen, 1 litre of unleaded petrol costs $2.21 (US$1.70; £1.09; €1.38) and 1 litre of diesel costs $1.91 (US$1.47; £0.94; €1.19).

Gasoline typically costs twelve kirega(about five US dollars) per liter, and diesel about fourteen. The high prices are mostly due to our ongoing state of civil war, which results in huge amounts of fuel being destroyed to deny it to the enemy, whoever that is, plus the government purposefully driving the price up to make it harder for the opposition to afford.

Oil prices are dropping in Alizeria as a result of favourable export arrangements with oil producing nations in the region, but are still higher than they should be - again as a result of crises in the region.

Current petrol prices are, per litre,

Roughly $2.50 per litre (~$10 per gallon) in US dollars. It's at that level because of both supply and our somewhat harsh tax aimed at discouraging large-scale use of barbaric and antiquated methods of transportation.

Petrol is free for citizens of the BSSR, but they don't get a lot. The government rations petrol use to 30 litres a month, per vehicle. This is intended to protect the environment, and to encourage use of our highly efficient public transportation system.

For foreigners, petrol costs 14 rublos per litre (a rublo has 1/7 the value of 1 €, so that would be 2 €/L).

Due to decades of world war, especially between the Coalition of Unions, led by China and the Riga Pact, led by the Astana Federation (Neo-Soviet Russia incorporating 85% of the former USSR territory) in the area of the Middle East, and with the USA-led Freedom Defense Organization intervening in Yemen, Oman and Egypt, the oil-rich area has become too devastated by 2040 to collect any oil. Later, the Iran-led Shiraz Defense Pact, long controlled by China, ignored its masters and detonated a super bomb codenamed "Persian Fire", which has became a mystery since. The bomb released an energy wave that set all the remaining oil deposits on fire. Of course this was not in Iran but instead in Riyadh. Though little human casualties were reported, oil became scarce after burning for a whole year ending in 2052.
But oil was not needed anyway. Redstone, hydrogen, solar, etc has become the major energy source since 2036, with Redstone more efficient than thirty nuclear reactors together. Now oil is already obsolete as an energy source, so anything that comes with it is basically nonexistent.

Hyfling doesn't have much oil, despite it's size, and it's really the only thing we import in large quantities. The nation receives most of it's oil from it's colonies, which is then processed here into usable petrol. Due to this structure, the price of petrol fluctuates wildly, ranging from as little as 0.2 HFC, and 2.20 HFC. Because of this, and the initial lack of oil, a large number of cars and other vehicles in Hyfling use alternative fuel sources, not for the sake of the environment, but because they are more reliable.

Due to the ban on cars in Irav we don't need much oil. But because of all the oil in Irav the prices are among the lowest in the region.

The price of petrol has remained steady at about Ϝ8 (approx. USD1.6) per litre at the two international airports. (Real Paraíso Intl. and Greater Thrania Intl.) It's much higher than global market price because of environmental taxes.

Unleaded: 0.30 Sestertias / $ 0.44 dollar per liter.

Diesel: 0.45 Sestertias / $ 0.67 dollar per liter.

Oil and diesel is very cheap here, due to the fact that we give every foreign country a limited quota of oil and diesel, and our civilians may not use more than 1.500 liter per year.

Because we consider petroleum to be a strategic commodity, we decline to mention whether we are a net importer or exporter. Anybody who watches the tankers approaching and leaving our shores can draw their own conclusions. (Anybody who notes our volcanic geology and our lack of natural gas can also draw their own conclusions.)

We have a very free economy, so gasoline prices vary greatly. 2 USD per liter would generally be considered a good price but it often goes for more than twice that in remote areas, which gives rise to the joke that Fatatatutti is the world's largest parking lot. Another common joke is that the only way to tell the difference between the rum and the gasoline is by the price; the gasoline is too expensive to drink. (By contrast, rum goes for as little as 1 USD per liter.)
