All are merely ceremonial. While we do also have Lords, that title is merely given to members of the House of Lords, the upper house of Parliament, who are elected.

Inoffensive Centrist Democracy

Postby Jeronma » Fri Dec 19, 2014 4:30 pm

In Jeronma the Rank of Nobility is nowadays just a name affix. Because Jeronmas democratic system the Rank of Nobility is politicaly of no relevance anymore. The titles King and Emperor are totally lost because the nobility is not a governing power anymore. However are people with an historic rank of nobility politicians.
When you have any rank of nobility it is official part of your name in Jeronma for example : John Duke of Somewhere Doe (John Hejctog dej Somewhere Doe). It is also written in the Name line of the Jeron passport. It is possible to take the title of per formal application to the registry office.

Ranks of Nobility (Name affix)
Only titles that still survived to today:
From top to bottom / highest to lowest:

Prince / Princess (Princz / Princzessen)
Duke / Duchess (Hejctog / Hejctogen)

Your test scores indicate that you are an open-minded ultra-conservative; this is the political profile one might associate with a police officer. It appears that you are accepting of religion, and have a balanced attitude towards humanity in general.

Your attitudes towards economics appear laissez-faire capitalist, and combined with your social attitudes this creates the picture of someone who would generally be described as a traditionalist.

To round out the picture you appear to be, political preference aside, a uncompromising radical centrist with a firmly established worldview.

Imperials
Emperor/Empress - title held only by the sovereign of the Empire - the Succession Edict of 1912 permits male-preference cognatic primogeniture. If the emperor/empress has no direct child heir, a diplomatic election is sometimes held when claimants have equal claims to the throne. Only person who may sit the Imperial Throne
Crown Regent - in the event of a regency, the new child-emperor cannot rule until the age of sixteen, and so a Crown Regent is selected. They are permitted the title Sovereign Regent to the Emperor of the Realm, but cannot sit the Imperial Throne. If the Regency lasts more than ten years, they may claim the throne for themselves if their is no legitimate or mentally capable heir upon the emperors death
Crown Prince/Crown Princess - the eldest son of the ruler or eldest daughter if there are no sons. As heir to the throne they are also entitled to the ceremonial title Duke/Duchess of Staten
Emperor/Empress Consort - the husband/wife of the ruler and/or father/mother of a legitimate crown prince/princess
Dowager Empress - anyone who has mothered an emperor/empress (an equivalent title was never created for men)
Prince/Princess - other legitimate children of the ruler, who are usually given/created titles as they reach maturity
Sovereign Aristocrat - siblings and first cousins of the Emperor or the Crown Prince are permitted the prefix Sovereign before their existing titles, and this includes any illegitimate or bastard children of the ruler

Non-Imperial Aristocrats
Members of the Imperial Council - highest rank attainable by someone not of noble birth, one of ten who sat on the now non-existent Imperial Council which was the highest position at the Purple Court
Marshals of the Empire - each marshal was responsible for the military in the six major regions
Grand Duke - Now almost entirely worthless, the Grand Duke was previously responsible for one of Toadon's six major regions - position hereditary and can only be held by a male
Duke/Duchess - Ruler or Consort of one of Toadon's thirty two main districts
Earl/Countess
Viscount (Baron)/Viscountess (Baroness)
Lord Paramount
Lord Castellan
Officer of the Realm
Knight of the Realm

In the Neo-Joseon Empire, ranks of nobility are more of a formality as due to our free market economy as well as the meritocratic nature of our society, nobles come and go very quickly. However, several titles of nobility are still in use due to very successful families as well as ranks bestowed upon military officers, who tend to keep their positions for a very long time.

Ranks of Nobility from Highest to Lowest
Emperor/Empress: Self-explanatory. The Neo-Joseon Empire Constitution state that the Emperor is picked through nomination by the previous Emperor and ratified by the National Council (legislative body). If the National Council does not ratify, the Emperor may override their decision and put it through several other means from referendum to open debate. The Emperor or Empress (both have equal power) are given executive powers similar to a President.

Royal Family: Anyone who can associate themselves with the Royal Family through direct descent. Generally, children of Royal Family members that aren't Emperor are not given this title unless the Emperor invites them back into the Palace. Many members of the Royal Family are afforded great education, which allows them to receive positions of power in government and industry

Daegam: Awarded to the Prime Minister, elected by the people for a 10 year term (renewable) and the chief Ministers of the Emperor's cabinet. The highest rank you can attain through merit. As of now, a total of 10 people have this title throughout the entire Empire. The 7 Ministry chiefs, the Deputy Prime Minister, the Prime Minister, and the Minister of the Autonomous Province of Japan.

The Circle of Kings: A military rank and order bestowed upon the Six Kings, six of the greatest soldiers in the Empire who have been augmented mechanically to be superhuman. Under the current Emperor Park Shin, this title is also given to the Emperor's Inner Circle, which includes his personal student, research partner, and his consultants. The Circle of Kings are not just soldiers but also officers, who have already proven themselves as strong but also intelligent in battle.

The next three titles are of equal status
Mok-Sa and Gun-Sa (Chancellors): A Chancellor is usually a military officer who has proven his or her ability to manage logistics and rally people behind them. They are put in charge of District Areas (colonies) to quell insurrections, manage commerce, and potentially prepare them for integration into the Empire. A Mok-Sa (High Chancellor) is someone who particularly excelled and has been given control of a Colonial Administrative Zone, a geopolitical cluster of colonies (Ex. Southeast Asian Zone, Yemen-Oman Zone, etc.)

Gwanchalsa (Governor): Governors govern provinces. While Chancellors govern District Areas and are officers from the Empire, Governors are duly elected by the people of that province to serve for 10 years. However, most governors serve for 40-50 years as there are no term limits. They are almost always well-studied civilians or businessmen as opposed to military men. The title of Gwanchalsa is also given to the greatest innovators of that era. The father of the Atom Bomb in Neo-Joseon was bestowed this title last with Princess Mira to award the one who invented the Neo-Joseon Fiber Networks in the coming years.

Chaebol: The only economic class that was recognized by the government. A Chaebol is a conglomerate of businesses that essentially act as feudal houses existed in the past. Due to antitrust regulations, a Chaebol is separate from a monopoly as Chaebols compete viciously between each other but many smaller businesses work to fuel this competition. Chaebols generally do not form within a single industry but extend across multiple industries, as so there are no monopolies in one industry. So the InterTek Chaebol is most famous for electronics services but has a hand in agriculture and transport. This title is bestowed upon the owners of these Chaebols.

Buyoon: The mayors of key financial, governmental, and cultural cities within the Empire. They have slightly less power than a Governor but within the city, technically have more influence due to the small area of control and disproportionately high power. This title has been given on more than one occasion to very successful scientists, who were given directorship of research centers instead of cities.

Hyeongryeong and Hyeonggam: Essentially County officials or mayors of medium sized cities. A Hyeongryeong is a title bestowed upon those who govern large and important counties while a Hyeonggam governs any other county. The title of Hyeongryeong can be given to a civilian who has distinguished themselves to the service of the nation or province while the title of Hyeonggam can be given to a civilian who has distinguished themselves in service to their community. This isn't just a handout title though. The last civilian who won it repelled a terrorist attack using his father's hunting rifle and incredible tactics.

There are 5 proper titles in Yulis:
Emperor (Impier)
Duke (Duc)
Grand Earl (Jarl Maior)
Earl (Jarl)
Count (Cóntiar)

Along with the proper titles there are titles given to relations (i.e. wife, children). This is established in the Yulisian Constitution (English).
For example:
The Wife of the Emperor is the Queen (Lan Risse), the Sons of the Emperor are Princes (Llèn Prencèn), the Daughters of the Emperor are Princesses (Llèn Prencen.

The ranks of nobility were officially abolished in 1812, by Empress Hwaryeol; thus showing that everyone is equal under her reign. Despite that, certain titles of honor can be granted upon a person for their contribution. However, the titles only act as a symbolic and do not indicate social class.

Empress Dowager : The matriarch of the imperial family. She was responsible to act as a regent during her daughter or son's minority, giving advice to the monarch of state affairs, attending a weekly conference with her daughter-in-law and various duties. She was given precedence over the empress consort.

Empress/Emperor : The titles is reserved for the autocrat of the Empire of Daeseoguk. The holders of this title were given utmost respect and his or her order must be obeyed immediately. Nevertheless, the Empress Dowager can anytime override her daughter/son order. This can also be given to the consort of the monarch.

Crown Princess/Crown Prince : The eldest daughter/son of the reigning monarch. They were required to undergone training for ten years, before being allowed to inherit the throne. The legal age for the Crown Princess/Prince to ascend the throne is 25 years old. If the monarch died before the legal age, their mother or grandmother would act as Interim Empress.

Princess/Prince: The children or grandchildren of the reigning monarch. They held no official responsibilities besides acting as the replacement of the Crown Princess/Prince if they die before ascending the throne. The princess was allowed to keep her title even though she married a commoner, their daughter/son would be included in the line of succession. Furthermore, she was required to take up residence near the Gyeo-ul Palace. The same thing can be applied to the prince.

Duchess/Duke: An honorary title that was bestowed to someone who doesn't have any relation to the imperial family. In order to receive this title, the person needs to serve as the civil servant for at least twelve years and displayed competence during her or his tenure. Their children cannot inherit this title, as it was exclusively reserved for the mother/father. The recipient would be honored posthumously if she/he died before receiving the title.

Lady/Lord: This honor, was given to someone who made the major contribution in various fields of knowledge such as mathematics, science, astronomy, philosophy, history, geology, literature, and many more. As the society valued knowledge above everything else, they were well respected and loved.

Protector of the Empire: The title was granted to individuals or a group of people who defended the nation from the invading forces. They've also received gifts in the form of an annual salary, staple foods and so forth. Likewise, their children cannot inherit this title, and his parents' yearly salary.

Titles of nobility in Azadistan

Postby Azadistan-land of the free » Fri May 18, 2018 10:54 pm

1.King or ruling Queen.
This is the ruler of Azadistan. They still have some political power despite Azadistan being a democracy.
2.Queen(as in wife of ruler) or prince-consort
The spouse of the ruler. So they are treated with respect, have influence and normally give the ruler a prince or princess.
3.Ministers of the government, senior millitary and police leaders, judges, government clerics
These people are considered nobles as they were the king's/queen's ministers or people who shared rule with the king.judges can overrule the King/queen if they violate the constitution such as if their commands break Islamic law.
4.princes/princesses
The children of a monarch are princes and princesses and so this includes the current monarch's children and their brothers and sisters.
5.knights
These are people who parliament thinks have done some service to society normally military.

There is also a social concept of gentry meaning "people who don't technically make it into the aristocracy but theoretically could" such as distant relatives of the monarch, lawyers, doctors, clerics, headteachers with some people considering mafioso to be gentry.
There is also a concept of "technocrat-entrepreneurs" in IT city who are alternatively praised as "gentlemen/ladies of science" but criticiaed by the predominantly left wing Azadistani population as "technocrat-entreprenuers" at best and
"Hacker-barons" at worst.

Following the Restoration of 2003 which formally ended the Socialist Era, the Monarchy of Strathy was reinstated, with all nobility given their titles back. As per tradition, titles of nobility are often related historical control over territory, although most nobles nowadays do not hold direct power over their lands. Many nobles, however, hold public office and participate in Parliament, sitting in the House of Lords - with the notable exception of the King. The ranks of the Strathan nobility are as follows:

The King

Full title, being: His Majesty Seumas the First of House Uitail of the United Kingdom of Strathy and by the Grace of Almighty God King, Emperor of the Strathan Realms, the Noble the Lord Protector of Partaig, High Marischall of Our Armed Forces, Sovereign of the Most Valiant the Knights of Saint Kentigern, Sovereign of the Worshipful the Knights Precary of Saint Columba, Sovereign of the Most Noble Order of Merit in the Strathan Empire, Defender of the Faith

The King is the Strathan Sovereign and in him all supreme power and sovereignty is vested. One addresses the King as "Your Majesty" initially and thereafter as "Sir". He should always be referred to as "His Majesty"

Princes of the Realm and Princesses of the Realm

These are members of the immediate Royal Family and are granted a title such as Prince of Glaschu and are styled "His/Her Royal Highness".

Other Princes and Princesses

Normally grandchildren, spouses, parents or siblings of the Monarch. These members of the Royal Family, not being children of the reigning monarch are given the title of Prince or Princess and styled as "His/Her Highness"

Dukes and Duchesses

Historically the highest non-Royal nobles, they had control over the Duchies - the largest divisions of the Kingdom. The Kingdom to this day is still divided into several Duchies, each with a Duke as their ceremonial head. In reality, these Duchies have their own devolved legislatures, each making use of the Dukes to varying degrees. A Duke should be referred to as "His Grace" or "the Lord Duke of ---". In conversation, one should address them initially as "Your Grace" or "My Lord Duke" and thereafter as "Sir".

Marquises and Marchionesses

The division beneath the Duchy was the March, historically responsible for providing a certain quota of soldiers to the King's Army in wartime. These were looked over by a Marquis or Marchioness. One should refer to them as "His Lordship" or "Her Ladyship", addressing as "My Lord/Lady" and thereafter "Sir" or "Ma'am"

Earls/Counts and Countesses

The County or Earldom was the primary division of the Kingdom, each containing a principle town and a number of villages. Their lord was the Count or Earl. Styles and modes of address are the same as for Marquises or Marchionesses.

Viscounts and Viscountesses

A similar status to the above, but somewhat lower in stature. In general, these titles were gifted by the Monarch as rewards for services to the Kingdom.

Barons and Baronesses

The Baron held sway over towns or small tracts of land. Nowadays this is the standard peerage bestowed by the Monarch for life-peers. That said, there are some hereditary baronies.

King-Emperor
Konig-Kaiser
The King-Emperor is the highest authority in the Empire, king of the two Kingdoms of the Empire.

Grand Duke
Großherzog
There are two Grand Duchies in the country. The Grand Duchy of Luxembourg and the Grand Duchy of Brabant-Limburg.

Duke
Herzog
There are two Duchies in the country. The Duchy of Zeeland and the Duchy of Berun. The Duchy of Berun is always ruled by the Heir-Apparent to the Empire.

Count
Count
Each Kingdom is divided into a number of Counties, ruled by a separate count. These counts generally have the same type of authority as a normal governor, and their rank is not hereditary, and instead given by the Emperor or the Diet.

Earl
Graf
Since there are no Earldoms in the Empire, a Baron is a noble title given to people based on merit.

Lord
Furst

The House of Princes (Fursthaus) is made of every person in the country that holds an estate and recognized title, except for the King-Emperor (or Queen-Empress) and their consort. Each member of this house is called a Furst, for example the current Imperial Chancellor, the Grand Duke of Luxembourg, is addressed as 'Furst auf Luxembourg' when directed in a legislative debate.

In Cagliostro, there's a very simple system of nobility.

First, at the top, is the Grand Duke/Duchess. However, people just refer to them as a King or Queen to make things easier.

Next, you have the Prince or Princess. Usually, they're the children of the current ruler, and heirs to the throne.

Under them, you have a Count/Countess, which is just a fancy title. However, in dire situations ( like the Duke dying and his Princess daughter not being old enough to rule ), the Count/Countess can become reagent for the nation.
