Melee weapons are seen as pretty much useless in this day and age. We prefer to use a plasma rifle or combat shotgun to put those annoying rad-scorpions to sleep.

That said, we have merged the two things together. The result was this.

The military uses knives, while officers use a traditional Pejitean melee weapon, the Dnekodt. This weapon is like a sword shaped in the form of a crescent except that it has two blades on each side (making it look like two crescents with the tips touching each other) so that the wielder can slice with both sides. Modern versions allow the blades to be folded together for ease of carrying.

In times of war, anything can be used as a melee weapon. Sometimes even mugs, dishes or utensils were used by civilians.

While melee weapons seem to have lost most of their practicality in this day and age of automatic firearms, Casovon's police and military units continue to carry them into their line of service.

All Casovonian police officers are issued a combination flashlight and expandable baton. Though it also saves weight and space on an officer's utility belt, this is considered a secondary benefit, as the original idea behind issuing such an item is to save the officer potentially valuable seconds if he or she is charged at and caught off guard; instead of fumbling to remove a separate baton from his or her belt, the officer simply turns their flashlight around and flicks their wrist to expand the integrated baton.

Ground troops of the Casovon Federal Surface Army and Federal Marine Corps are issued variants of the M9 bayonet with a blackened steel blade and a few serrated teeth towards the base at the handle. They are trained to use the knife as both a close-quarters fighting weapon and while attached to the end of the rifle as a spear, as the knife is designed. Units assigned to jungle operations are instead issued an 18-inch machete alongside a carbine.

Most YellowApplans, when confronted with a situation requiring melee combat, will opt for the weapons built into themselves: fists, feet, hooves, claws, teeth, etc. Despite the legality and prevalence of firearms throughout YellowApplan jurisdiction, unarmed combat is a preferred means of fighting for many YellowApplans. Basic Combat Training - a prerequisite of YellowApplan military service and included in the default curricula of Intermediate Education ("secondary" or "high" school in other nations) institutions managed by the YellowApple Department of Education - includes personal/unarmed combat training, and thus encourages such techniques to be applied as a default approach to personal altercations when possible.

As for actual weapons as likely intended by the inquirer, many YellowApplans are known to carry knives on their persons, though such devices are more frequently intended for utilitarian purposes. Swords are also popular among a significant minority of YellowApplans; fencing happens to be among the more popular sports within YellowApplan jurisdiction (alongside boxing, vehicular racing, and marksmanship).

The most used melee weapon in the Imperial Dominion is the power stave. While more than capable of acting like a battle stave, it's main purpose is to amplify and direct one's magic. It's due to this combination that it is favored.

We haven't really used melee weapons in centuries, but the one that comes closest is probably your standard double-edged broadswoard.

Arcane field projectors (somewhat resembling the lightsabers in Star Wars) were a brief fad as little as two hundred years ago, but they're both too lethal and too limited to really take hold. Modern weaponry consists entirely of directed energy weapons and stunners, with the occasional projectile weapon.

The Elesrian dueling sword is our most popular melee weapon. Many of our nobility train in it for years. While dueling is controversial it is legal though largely practiced only by the nobility. Most duels are to first blood but deaths do sometimes occur.

Amongst the commoners knives, daggars and various improvised weapons (ie chairs in barfights) are used in cases of self defense.

Avaerilonians are culturally attached to their swords, and few households are without one. From around 15 years old, children are taught how to use a sword safely for recreational purposes, and thus are able to use them sensibly. All officers in the military carry swords ceremonially, and have even in recent conflicts gone into battle with them, partly because the enemy doesn't expect it, and partly because they're trained to be highly-effective swordsmen. And no Avaerilonian would ever go into the vast wilderness of thick forests, gnarled woods and and lonely mountains without a sword; there are far too many unpleasant things out there.

The archetypal sword of Avaerilon, and Fereldan in-particular, would be the hand-and-half sword, or the bastard sword. Known as a claddannorn, literally "sword of the nobility," this kind of weapon can be wielded either one-handed like most arming swords or two-handed like great swords and claymores, being lighter than traditional two-handed blades while retaining some of their brute force.

Our soldiers don't carry weapons specifically for melee. They carry knives - e.g. bayonets, machetes or kukris - but they are more for use as tools on the march and in camp; they can also be used as weapons in an emergency. Other equipment, such as entrenching tools, can also be used as weapons.

Police are most likely to use stun batons. Military personnel and BioThreat Reduction Unit personnel are occasionally obliged to engage enemies with fighting knives of various sizes.

While we're known for our energy blasters and propensity to use them at the drop of a hat, it's a little-known fact that we also engage in plenty of melee combat. Melee fights typically take place when Decepticons fight each other for Energon or other assets that could explode or at least ignite in the presence of blaster fire.

The fist is the preferred melee weapon, and a Decepticon fist is much deadlier than the corresponding part on a human. In their base states, our fists are made of strong metal and driven by hydraulics. This allows every Decepticon to be able to deliver pile-driver-like force to a target.

Upgraded fists are even deadlier. They can be made of extra-hard metal, reinforced with impact-resistant support struts, built with integrated spikes on the knuckles, and otherwise made both more lethal and less prone to accumulating damage from punching. Those who upgrade their fists also usually upgrade the arm hydraulics that power them. Someone with this type of setup can easily pound another Decepticon into dead scrap in the same way a human professional boxer can kill the average bar brawler.

All soldiers are issued leaf-bladed swords for melee combat, as well as a multitool including several kinds of knife for other situations.
Civilians tend to use whatever they can find as a weapon when they need to.
