Most used melee weapon in your nation?

Postby Skinia » Mon Nov 24, 2014 1:49 pm

What kind of melee weapon usually sees the most use in your nation? Is it a plain old knife, baseball bat, chain or is your nation more about martial arts without weapons or more into guns and shooting?

In Skinia, the splitting maul or as we tend to call it, the splitter, has become a symbol for us Skins. It is a sledgehammer with one side shaped like the blade of an axe, a heavy tool for demolishers and woodcutters.

Civilians rarely use melee weapons, since they are unavailable in the cities and firearms are more plentiful and practical in the wastelands.

In terms of military use, combat knives tend to be the standard fare, with yataghans also being in common use by our Cossack, Tatar, Kazakh and Kyrgyz regiments. The Spetsnaz use a type of retractable gauntlet-blade, nicknamed the Predator Blade on account of its striking resemblance to a weapon used by a fictional character in a Hollywoodland film.

It would be very rare to see people not have a gun on their person, but should they be forced to use melee weapons they just use any 'stick-like' object they can grab nearby.

Sabers are the official melee weapon of the Commowealth, but in reality more people use Bowie knives--mostly to fish, hunt, and pick their teeth.

List any thing used for hand to hand combat besides your body? Then probably the umbrella. Not because it is so powerful or anything, cause it isn't, but because people are almost carrying them, either to block precipitation or sunlight. Now if an actual weapon, something designed to be fought with, then traditional swords, only because nothing else is as popular. Though, since the Holy Parhic Empire has more guns circulating among the civilian population than it does people, firearms are used more often.

In military usage, it's typically the "Arkadat Pike", an obscure form of the bayonet used by Tinellian forces that more closely resembles the end of a halberd attached to a gun, allowing it to double as an excellent melee weapon.

In civilian usage? It's usually pitchforks or a chair, depending on if you're in the city or out in a rural area.

Many civilians carry around a type of 'folding blade'. In essence, it is simply a hilt until activated, then a segmented blade folds out.

Uh, people tend to use fists.
But these are also powerful and popular for not only self-defence, but also in clashes of communists and less radical social democrats.

Due to their common utility, knives are generally the favored melee weapon carried by the public. Nearly everyone carries one, generally used for tasks like eating, shaving, sharpening pencils, opening boxes, and picking one's fingernails.

Energy blades, certainly.

An energy blade, which can take the form of a sword, axe or any other bladed weapon, is technically not an energy weapon at all, but rather a self-forging nanotech blade with a plasma sheath projected along it's edge. Such blades are capable of cutting through most materials with ease, requiring the user to master specific techniques of blocking and parrying, lest his weapon be destroyed in an encounter with another such blade.

The most common form of energy blade is the energy sword, commonly seen in the Imperial armed forces as part of officer and NCO gear. Energy swords are not standard-issue equipment and are purchased by personal assets or bestowed as gifts for distinguished service. Rank-and-file troops aren't forbidden from equipping themselves with energy swords, but it is customarily considered poor form for an ordinary soldier to own such a weapon without having earned it.

Energy bayonets and wristblades, however, are standard-issue gear and come integrated in the more recent designs of energy rifles and powered armor.

In it's inactive form, a typical energy blade takes the shape of a compact, ornate hilt not unlike a lightsaber, easily concealed among other equipment hanging from the user's belt. Bayonets and wristblades come as integrated or modular weapon/armor attachments, being equally unnoticable until activated.

Technically, knives are most commonly used due to their utility and status as cooking utensils. As for actual weapon, the trench blade, a weapon similar to a kukri with a knuckle duster for a handle, is most commonly used due to its extreme versatility.

Melee weapons are used a lot by the lower police, Batons and Knives are used instead of guns for lower police. Higher Police and Ceremonial Guards use long native blades named Huane Swords.
