The position of Emperor of the Commonwealth is elected by a popular vote. A pool of candidates from the nobility or elected officials is formed simply through public opinion.

It is not uncommon for Emperors to give their support to a successor, which of course gives the endorsed a lot of credibility. However, this does not have any legal bearing. It is usually done as per tradition or simply on the Emperor's prerogative.

The Monarch is passed on from generation to generation. The use of genetic modification to eliminate negative or less than desirable traits has been authorized. The King or Queen is raised from childhood for the position and given an extensive world class education.

The current Raurosian head of state, or Prince, is Prince William IV. A ruling prince gains power through agnatic primogeniture, under which females succeed only in circumstances without any valid male heir.

The head of government, or Premier, leads the People's Assembly. He is elected at large by the Raurosian people and must be confirmed by the Prince. The members of the Assembly must also be confirmed by the Prince. This power is not merely ceremonial; 2009 marked the most recent instance of an assemblyman denied his seat.

The President and Vice President are appointed by either their predecessor or an emergency meeting of the Executive Council (consisting of high-ranking government members) who select the most capable individual they know for the task of running the country.

The King/Queen/Prince/Princess of the various monarchical states succeed their predecessor by either being the oldest child of the previous King/Queen or by being the closest-living relative to said King/Queen.

None of this silly election stuff occurred and all for the better of Saurisia, of course.

The Prince of our nation is responsible for choosing his successor. By tradition it is usually his oldest child (of either gender) though this is not always the case and it has not been unknown for a Prince to prefer one of his younger children. Regardless his choice must be ratified by the Grand Council though this is not usually a problem. If the Prince dies without an heir the Grand Council will choose a successor from amongst the previous Prince's surviving relatives and the head of the council will act as head of state until a new prince is chosen.

Les Pays d'en Haut are a kind of tribal oligarchy. We are ruled by 13 clan leaders. To become a ruling clan leader, you need to be a leader of your clan and kill one of the 13 ruling clan leaders and take his spot. To be a clan leader, you need to either kill the actual leader of your clan or if you're the son of the actual clan leader and your dad is killed by a member of another clan, you are the new clan leader.

Our head of government is a military dictator who won a civil war against fascists. He is both the Chief Justice on the Supreme Court and the Prime Minister.

Legally, the head of government(Prime Minister) is elected by the majority coalition in Parliament. Our head of state(Monarch) is usually chosen by male-preference primogeniture. The Supreme Court Chief Justice is appointed by the monarch after selection by military junta (our constitution is like Myanmar's or Thailand's/ the military junta is a legalized organ of the government.)

What system is used to select your nation's next leader or leaders?
Non-compulsory Democratic Populace Vote in conjunction with votes by the Federal Council.

If a democracy, are you direct or representative?
Representative (although the last presidential election was what the Federal Council calls a "blunder" in which the language of the Presidential Election Bill that passed only one year prior to the latest presidential election. That bill technically allowed for the first Direct Democracy Presidential vote in Chadtonia's History. The technicality won out in the election of the nation's first fifteen year old president, the Cheyaffa Clayton Deylanna. Immediately after the successful election of President Clayton Deylanna, the Federal Council drafted The Provisionary Bill for Presidential Elections, a bill that President Deylanna has firmly stated that he does not support and that he plans to veto, and to use the current Empirical Law that is currently on the books that allows the Emperor... (The President is Emperor-In-Effect according to the current Presidential Laws) to abolish a bill in its entirety... an amazing thing for President Deylanna to say since the majority of His campaign dealt with the abolishment of all Empirical Laws.)

Is there an Electoral College?
Chadtonia does not use that terminology, however the nation's head of state, The Federal Council, pragmatically functions as an Electoral College in the sense that they are a body of people representing the whole of the Federation, who formally cast votes for the election of the president and vice president.

The leader of Gandoor, the Prime Minister, is elected. More specifically, they are elected during the National Election, which occurs every six years on the first Saturday in July. (Most recent National Election was last year, 2018, and the next one will be in 2024) The candidate, whom's party receives the simple majority of seats in the Forum, is then formally appointed to the position of Prime Minister by the Forum, acting upon the will of the people, on the second Friday in October following the National Election.

Any changes to the party membership of the Forum during non-National Elections does not affect the position of Prime Minister. (So if during a regular election only for Members of the Forum results in the PM's party no longer being the majority party, the Prime Minister will still hold the position, s/he would only lose his position during a National Election or if they resign, are impeached, or die in office)

How is the leader(s) of your nation chosen?

Postby Parhe » Mon Nov 24, 2014 3:04 am

If a monarchy, what are the rules of primogeniture?
In the case there are any sane relatives the successor must be chosen from among them. The monarchy may choose any of his or her direct descendants, either through birth or adoption, and there is no rank among them although for any under the age of twenty a related regent must also be assigned; if for any reason one is not assigned, denies the role, or otherwise cannot fulfill it the legislature takes over. After descendants, ranking is siblings or parents, descendants of siblings, grandparents of any generation, siblings of parents, and so on from there.
Hey, it is Parhe :D I am always open to telegrams.
I know it is a Work-In-Progress, but I would love it if y'all looked at my new factbook and gave me some feedback!
