I based off of various legal theories, John Lockean philosophy, political/economic centrism, representative democracy, and social liberalism.

To be honest, while I drew inspiration from real cultures, the Marai are not intended to be any single one. Nianoata has been influenced by Maori culture, Japanese culture, Fijian culture, Indian culture, and a number of others, but it is none of them in truth. It's people comprise a culture that while possess similarities to others, but are none of them.

There's a lot going on in the Tierean Empire, and I still don't have it fully constructed. The geography is quite Mediterranean/Iberian, but there are colonies which are north and cold, and warm and tropic. These colonies were once large and expansive but recent years have shrunken the regions of direct control to minor holdings and a few populous cities. Much like the British Empire.

The government I have not fully completed but I am taking influence from British and European parliaments, as well as Chinese and Japanese Imperial courts, with some celtic clan tiered kingship for flavour.

The language is half Irish half gobblty gook and a sprinkling of apostraphies.

I came up with the idea in class actually, we were given an assignment to create our own nationstate. Me and my friend thought up a world which suffered a nuclear war, and to escape the destruction a fleet of ships carried people to Antarctica to escape the radiation of the bombed out north hemisphere. Things went downhill from there, with bandits and warlords raiding and mixing with the population, and corruption in the government legalizing slavery and eventually these things became its culture.

For real life, Joseon era Korea with some of the Scientific Method thrown in. It's basically my ideal nation minus the colonialism and imperialism. A nation ruled by the intelligent and anti-intellectualism is scoffed at, belittled, and publicly shamed. Science and philosophy reigns supreme while superstition is seen with trepidation. But I based much of the foreign policy off of the Roman Empire and British Empire.

For fictional references, definitely Britannia from Code Geass. The leader, Park Shin, is like a conglomeration of Mr. House from Fallout, L from Death Note, and Lloyd from Code Geass. A lot of the weaponry and military tech that Neo-Joseon uses is based off of Britannia. The Hadron Cannons are shamelessly ripped off from there and the TAEYANG Flotilla is based off of the Sky Fortress DAMOCLES.

Pessimism and cynicism.

The mass industry of unrestricted free-market capitalism and an ineffective environmentalist movement has reduced the world to a massive wasteland spattered with paranoid hi-tech Enclaves living in entirely self-contained arcologies. An airborne zombie-like plague has further compounded the damage and infected most of what little land still remains inhabitable. The only effective vaccine causes degeneration of the prefrontal cortex, specifically impacting the regions associated with guilt and impulse control. The exact effects of the vaccine vary by person, creating a caste system where the least impaired are in charge similar to that of Brave New World. Attempts to build a AI have been abandoned, replaced with the more relatable and 'human' Gel Minds (grown out of modified human neural tissue).

The Eco-Utilitarian Mutual Defense Coalition, a militant evolution of the United Nations based out of Singapore, is the major world power on account of having control over an orbital defense grid originally designed to intercept nuclear weapons and launch counter-strikes against nuclear missile silos. This defense grid is now used to destroy anything that attempts to go airborne without authorization or does something else that may harm the EUMDC. And now the EUMDC High Command has decided that since the planet is incapable of being fixed, they're just gonna go take someone else's. To facilitate this, what few resources remain are being used to control a fleet of starships armed with as many weapons as possible.

The works of Peter Watts and the tabletop game Eclipse Phase are the closest equivalents in terms of hopelessness and species of horror. Suicide is almost a reasonable response to daily life. Heroism and individualism as concepts are considered outdated and naive. Darkness-Induced Audience Apathy is not only the result, but the goal.

Deadora was born as a parody of radical feminism, but eventually grew into a gynocratic, biethnic Empire ruled by tribal peoples that were somewhat uplifted by a foreign Empire between the 18th and 19th centuries.
