Your nation's national/ symbolic weapon???

Postby The High Tatras » Tue Oct 21, 2014 1:23 pm

Does your nation have a weapon that is particularly associated with it, and what does it symbolize?

The "national weapon" of The High Tatras is the "samopal". It was an ancient flintlock smoothbore weapon loaded from the muzzle, cheaper than a musket and with the range of a harquebus. It was a fully stocked firearm, with a long slim barrel of a relatively small caliber. The barrel had fixed front and rear iron sights. The fore-end had a pivot that enables a horn bipod to be used, which was often quite long for shooting in the kneeling position. It also had a sliding patch box fitted to the underside of the buttstock behind the trigger guard. It was a smoothbore, giving the option of using ball or shot. They were used both for hunting and in combat, and were often cheaply and crudely homemade by local gunsmiths. However, they could withstand lots of abuse. It was not unheard of for some wilderness hunters with little knowledge of metal craftsmanship to hold the barrel or loose screws in place with leather straps and ropes, or to make other DIY repairs. One unique and interesting derivation of the basic design had two shots and one barrel with two hammers, one on each side. It was loaded with one charge over the other, with a soft wax wad placed between them. The wax wad plugged the bore and prevented ignition of the lower charge when the first one was fired. Such weapons were highly valued as a more affordable alternative to expensive two-barreled hunting weapons that came from far away.

The samopal was considered a peasant's or commoner's weapon since it was often cheaply and crudely made, could withstand lots of abuse, and required little training to learn to use somewhat effectively. It was one of the main weapons used by the earliest Tatrans, many of whom were serfs who had fled from their masters in neighboring countries. As a result, the samopal represents egalitarianism and resistance to oppression.

my nations symbolic weapon is also our native animal.

The six winged toc toc represents peace through unrelenting violence, it was used in the early days as calvalry. its claws could rip through steel two feet deep and could rival tanks until it was proven less dangerous for the rider and less expensive. still however on military parades there are still mounted battalions who ride the six winged toc tocs. (all of the toc tocs being subject to injection of pacification drugs prior to the event)

The AL1 rifle is the weapon most associated with Luepola today. It is a potent fully-automatic rifle firing a full-size cartridge. Its use across Luepola and its satellites has solidified it in history, and those acquainted with it deem it as symbolic of a rifle to its people as such rifles as the FN FAL, Kalashnikov, and AR-15.

Historically, the Gatling Gun has been widely associated with Luepola, most notable for its use by the Luepolan Confederation in multiple naval skirmishes during the later 1800s.

The GB-1 Laser Rifle seems to be the most associated with the Imperial Military. It was one of the first Laser Rifles to ever be put into wide-scale use. It is designed like an old American M16, with a projection chamber where the firing mechanism would be. It was designed mainly to pierce body armor and to replace the existing LF-55 Laser Rifles that were famed for their wasteful ammo usage.

Due to our militarized culture and history, we don't have a symbolic weapon.

Instead, soldiers/warriors are the weapons. The weapons are just their handy tools.

The sword is used as a symbol by three of our most prominent groups, but it means quite different things to each. SABER uses the curved sword as a symbol for their group, the Modern Knights use a straight sword to represent honor and direct confrontation of evil, and MM uses the flaming sword as a symbol of the vengeance of God, as delivered through the intermediary of their bullets and bombs.

The most famous weapons in antiquity, in which Themiclesia was actually a military power, or rather a collection of military powers, is the Sword of Gura. It is cast from different types bronze of varying in the percentage of bronze/tin/antimony, thus manifesting in different colours on the surface of the sword. Through polish and chemical treatment, this difference is accentuated, and lesser cultures are mortally afraid of said sword, as they didn't understand the technology behind the gleaming colours of the sword. The sword, however, is uniformly made out of bronze, and not steel; as the modern age approached, the military power of Themiclesia waned, just as the sword became unusable in face of soldiers with steel swords brought by Celtic invaders in the 4th C. B.C.

The Mirta sword which was used throughout Equusian history. It is a fairly long sword, about the length of a medieval arming sword, with a narrow blade, aggressive taper, shallow fuller and a curved guard. It is intended to be a fast stabbing sword, but still has some cutting ability and is now carried by officers for ceremonial events.

From transcript of Kouralian ITC Bayonet Training Lesson One of Ten wrote:
THE BAY'NET!

Now, the bayonet is designed to kill! When a bayonet is produced in battle, fixed to your rifle... The enemy my god does it have a considerable effect on their morale! Now, today I'm going to instruct you in how to kill with the bayonet.

The Bayonet in Kouralia is the symbol of the Infantry, and the Military - specifically the army - specifically the Infantry is held in incredibly high regard. The bayonet (or even, a knife able to be mounted to a rifle) is used as a symbol of nearly anything, from masculinity to adulthood, from badassery to status. For example, the rank insignia of an army Officer includes (rather than pips) crossed bayonets, to bring in the authority and respect owed to the Infanteers. Additionally, the Kouralian Royal Yacht's name - the Seax aþ'Artemise, means 'Bayonet' in old High Kouralian.

Every Kouralian Soldier, Air Force Regiment Trooper, Marine and even some policemen are equipped with the Bayonet. The standard Kouralian bayonet is about 10 inches long and is a Knife blade, with some utility-knife accouterments on the rear-edge. It is blackened, and features a tanto-esque design. The Ceremonial Blade is 17 inches long, chromed and still sharpened to battlefield-quality. It is still a separate offence to fail to produce a bayonet upon request by a senior soldier when on the field of battle - harking back to the 19th century when sword bayonets 24 inches long (some with basket handguards) were the norm.

The Bayonet is the utter fixation of the entire Kouralian Military doctrine, as exemplified by the motto of the first Armoured unit in the Kouralian Army (the 'Land Cruiser Corps') whose role was more like that of an APC than MBT unit: 'Deliverance', meaning 'delivering the bayonet to the enemy'.

Kouralian Military Handbook, 2010 Edition wrote:The utter purpose of the military machine is to deliver the bayonet to the opposing soldier's sternum. The navy launches the army, the air force keeps the skies clear, the artillery cracks their bunkers, the tanks sweep fields clear, the APCs move them close, the machine guns suppress the enemy: and all for the purpose of delivering those ten inches of steel into the opponent's chest. For to do so clears a position of their influence, and to do so captures it, and to capture enough positions is to make the enemy's line untenable, and to do that... to do that wins the war.

In training the Kouralian Infantryman has roughly 20 hours of bayonet training: teaching him to use it to clear vehicles, rooms, to know instinctively what is and isn't in range to use it, teaching him how to use the bayonet in an escalade, where to stab an enemy, counter-bayonet fighting, how to defeat a bayonet using your bare hands etc. etc.

The Kouralian Policeman, as said, may on occasion use the bayonet in suppressing riot situations. Why? Because if you are trying to engage some men with fixed bayonets in hand to hand combat you're either so incredibly stupid you deserve it, or you're so drunk that social convention decrees you deserve it.

In the Kouralian Civil War of 1999-2001, the bayonet was used repeatedly in combat, with an estimated 2% of casualties being from its use.

Our most symbolic weapon is the M83A7 Assault Rifle, this is the standard issue weapon of any NAE Trooper, MPD, ATC, Marine, etc. its very very durable firing in temperatures form -100F to 200F. the rifle can be fired for a good 1hr before overheating and the barrel melting. Even though it still fires regular ammunition, it has been praised by many Troopers to the weapon that can decide the outcome of any soldiers fate or battle.

Unquestionably our most famous weapon is the AK-47. The Soviet Union, our predecessor, produced millions of them and many trillion tonnes more of ammunition. In fact, the 7.62x39mm round is so plentiful that, even in an age of directed-energy weapons and spaceborne battleships, the humble AKM finds a purpose in the Mechanocratic Armed Forces, albeit modernised as a patrol weapon. But against an opponent of equal strength, it doesn't beat the AV-38m, a deadly smoothbore flechette weapon that uses a cheaply-produced Gauss hybrid propulsion system to munch through powered armour as if it were made of cardboard.

The Colt M1911 handgun. At over 200 years old, it is by far the oldest piece of military hardware that still sees service to this day. While it isn't exactly common to see it in the hands of frontline troops, it is a favorite of officers and special forces. Even in an age of gauss and directed energy weapons, it's still great for what it is and the mere presence of one of these pistols seems to capture the spirit of the Imperial Military.

Because of the M1911's significance, and despite draconian gun control laws back home, Grand Marshal Buck Edwin paid out of his own pocket to have hundreds of thousands of M1911s plated in a bright silver and inscribed with the service details of the soldiers who have served nobly for twenty+ years in the Imperial Military. To this day, veterans are gifted with a custom silver Colt .45 upon their departure from the military.

The weapon that best symbolizes Fatatatutti would be no weapon at all because we are a peace-loving people.

However, the pig spear could be considered as characteristic of Fatatatutti. Since we never experienced a stone age, it might be bone-tipped, though a fire-hardened tip made as a prelude to a hunt would be more common in general practice.

War clubs are also a part of our cultural heritage but they would more properly be considered as coup sticks than as lethal weapons. To a Fatatatutian warrior, it is more honourable and requires more courage to leave your enemy alive than to kill him.
