A layered system of cold weather gear is great.

Fur around openings like cuffs and the collar is good because fur catches snow and ice that would normally blow into those areas, but for the lining and filling of the gear I'm sure what to use, given how many options there are. Something like wool would be good but its heavy and takes forever to dry, fleece is extremely warm but loses that when it gets wet, etc. Fish fur pile or some other sort of synthetic quick dry pile would probably be my best option I don't know which to go with :/

With cold weather clothing your goal is to prevent sweating, as that will kill as an end result of the sweat and cold freezing the soldier from the outside in.

Its better to be slightly chilled when you sit around, as you will warm up when you move around.

Another thing is policy and training to make your clothing as effective as possible, like changing out socks, etc.

I can speak personally on changing out socks.

I guess this guy is in a vehicle then. So is this one. So is this one. Also this guy!

There are a lot of degrees when it comes to power armor and saying that it is all a vehicle is ignorant. I could pull up a bunch of other examples of exoskeletons but I think I've adequately made my point.

Roller skates are a vehicle.

A vehicle is a device/machine used to transport goods, people, or materials if we're looking at a textbook definition.

I'm retconning that stupidly large shotgun (light grenade launcher) of mine. I don't want to use 12 gauge I'm thinking 10 gauge with 3 1/2" shells still large but no longer stupid huge 30X120. which cycling back to the previous PA argument. power armor is not practical until it is capable of supporting protection systems capable of rendering it capable of surviving most if not all small arms. unless your armor can stop .50 BMG SLAP ( 12.7X108 equivalent) for more than 2-3 successive impacts than it's not going to be enough. example: I see your power armor and raise you dumb fire version of the M-25 GL.

I am not sure you could reasonably build such a thing and still have it not be too heavy and bulky to fit inside vehicles, climb stairs and stuff. Also, I am not sure you could fit such a thing on a person without said person still being thrown around, knocked over or having his limbs broken when hit.

Exactly my point. Powered Armor is impractical at this point in time. until we can some engineer a material of system that is impervious to a M903 then it's not going to work considering that .50 BMG rifles are not too unreasonable for an infantryman to carry Especially if you break it down into shooter/ammo bearer teams or better yet the M25 (XM25) and would work on a mass scale if the electronic bits were removed to make it a dumb fire weapon.

Unless you're in the arctic, you don't need them to be too thick. I don't think Finland or Iceland use fur coats. I wouldn't have them used in the field unless they're not restricting in any way.

We prefer wool to fur to be honest. Wool insulates even when wet, which is nice considering how wet the climate is around here year round. (We had 29 rain days last June)

I disagree. Both full powered 12.7mm rifles and hand held grenade launchers might be technically man portable but they are quite useless in terms of actually doing what assault rifles are supposed to do. Even if you manage to build a suit of powered armor that can carry them like you would a regular rifle the soldier still won't be able to carry much ammo or fire the thing on full auto greatly limiting its suppressive capabilities. And the large barrel required for these things to get to proper AP velocities means it is also going to suck in any sort of battlefield where movement is constricted.

In my view the ideal level of protection for powered armor would be basically a scaled up version of the stuff americans already issue to their troops. All you'd need to do is expand it to cover the entire body and make it powered so that it does not break the soldiers back with prolonged use. You only really need it to stop ordinary AR's and explosive shrapnel because those are really the most useful weapons out there.
Purpelia does not reflect my actual world views. In fact, the vast majority of Purpelian cannon is meant to shock and thus deliberately insane. I just like playing with the idea of a country of madmen utterly convinced that everyone else are the barbarians. So play along or not but don't ever think it's for real.

On the puckle gun yes it was designed for round shot but there were square shot chambers for it for convincing heathens of the benefits of western christianity. of coruse people often go on about how square bullets wouldn't grip the rifling which is a odd thing to mention considering its unlikely the thing was rifled and the fact that the square bullets would have massive windage issues in the barrel and be stupidly unstable in flight.

I use them for Crookfur because they are fun and mad, ICly they were used in very limited numbers until the early 1800s when some bright spark built a version with a rifled barrel that was slightly smaller than the standard .625 rifle calibre but had chambers designed to accept standard rifle cartridges thus giving a gun that was remarkably accurate, resistant to fouling and fairly fast firing. After being stuck on a very light mount one and later 2 of these were issued to each company of a rifle regiment and the light/rifle company of each line regiment or at least that was the plan...
