New Florence -- Today in a Press Conference, Praetorian Consul Julius announced that Starfleet has been given permission - and the funds - to construct a civilian colony on the Moon. "This is the next biggest step in space travel" Julius said in the Press Conference. This has been a long time coming. After the United States landed a man on the Moon in 1969, the entire world has wanted to join. Now, with advanced rockets the NRSA and Starfleet have jointly created, we shall build a colony on the Moon.
The schedule is not solid, but Starfleet has put out a basic plan. On August 29, the first crew and shipment will make way for the Moon. They will begin to construct the first structure, or the 'Keep' as officials are calling it. On September 1, the second shipment will be sent, this one unmanned. Three more shipments will be sent until the second crew leaves, and the first comes back home. By October 1, Phase 1 shall be completed.

Phase 1 will have basic living quarters, kitchen, a rec hall, and bathrooms. Phase 2 shall add residences, similar to those of high end apartments. Also, a magnetic wheel will be installed. This will spin and cause rudimentary artificial gravity. Subsequent Phases will install a BioDome, complete with a park, restaurants, a Promenade, a spaceport, and other not so necessary, but fun essentials. The plan beginning on August 29 is only temporary due to the war with Sassinia. With their weapons, there is a chance that they could destroy the rocket before it gets to the Moon.

This will, officials in the NRSA hope, act as a staging point for a mission to Mars. "After the [Lunar] colony is established, our next step will be Mars." says Dr. Phil Stark of the NRSA. Many hopefuls think that this will cause the NRR to become a world power. This reporter believes that this is a crucial step to making Starfleet like its Star Trek counterpart. But only time shall tell what this has in store for us.

New Rome, Italia Province -- The Praetorian Guard Building yesterday announced that New Roman forces has invaded the nation of Sassinia. This comes after a month of war with Sassinia. On August 18, Sassinia threatened to make Deutsch-Britannia a protectorate in exchange for helping in Deutsch-Britannia's civil war. Allies of Deutsch-Britannia, Allanea and Quirina, and New Roma Republic, backed said nation. The next day, Sassinia declared war on the 3 nations.

The invasion forces include the majority of the active duty forces. To compensate the loss of troops, some of the Auxiliaries have been called up. The invasion was marked by a monarchist rebellion in Sassinia. With the loss of a few major battles, the underground groups came up and began to riot in the Sassinian capital of Terz. With the detonation of the EMP over Terz, the situation quickly degraded, forcing the President and several other high government official to flee. Thier status is currently unknown. The flag of the Monarchy now flies over the dark Sassinian capital.

New Nikola -- On September 9^th the Greater Nordic Federation Tests it's Thor rocket for landing on Alpha Centauri. It was Tested by flying into Orbit then going back into the atmosphere and flying around Earth twice and Landed in the foothills of the Alps. The President of the Space program came out to the Capital to say that on the 15^th the Rocket which was referred to as Rocket N^o 1,023 the Rocket will also be sent using an Orion Propulsion System. The Launch date was moved forward to celebrate the start of the Football game for the USSR.

New Rome, Italia Provence -- It was announced at 9:02 am local time that the Sassinian defence has all but fallen apart. After thousands of the Sassinian soldiers died in the defence of their nation, the survivors either fled or surrendered to the New Roman Paratroopers. The Sassinian Air Force was shattered after a major dogfight took place over the beachhead. The last pockets of resistance are made up of the Sassinian Tank Corps. Efforts are being taken to eliminate the pockets of resistance.

The new Kingdom of Sassinia has risen an army and is attacking other cities to expand their kingdom. The deposed President of Sassinia has taken control of Egypt in a spectacular show that dazed the world. With the New Sassinain Republic in Egypt, the Allied Forces have stalled, and are debating on what to do. The Allies are supporting the Monarchy due to the fact that they are members of the Coalition of Monarchies. The is more or less won, but it is not yet over.

New Rome -- Today in a Press Conference, Consul Agrippa announced that New Roma Republic shall be sending a delegation to The Holy Norse Empire of Kernan for the First WMD Reduction Conference. Legatus Carol Marcus, delegate to the Roman Alliance Summit, is heading up the New Roman delegation of 5 delegates.

The public is surprised about the Caesar helping to set up this summit. New Roma Republic recently used 3 of their nuclear missiles against the old Sassinian Republic. The missiles were used as EMPs, and no civilians were directly killed by the EMP. Despite this, the Caesar is sending a delegate to the Summit. Some think this may be the end to Roma's nuclear arsenal, but Military Analyst Rob Myers disagrees: "New Roma Republic will keep at least part of their nuclear arsenal. They need it for protection against certain enemies. Also with the new use of the EMP, they now have a valuable resource that they will not give up easily."

This Summit will also delve into Chemical and Biological weapons. New Roma Republic has no weapons in this category, as far as it is known. Some factions believe that they do hold a small stockpile, but this is unconfirmed. The New Roma Republic will begin efforts to limit weapons in both categories during and after the Summit. The start of the Summit has not been confirmed for security reasons.

New Rome -- Today, the Praetorian Guard Building announced that New Roma Republic is sending 2 Legions to Greater Weselton. This nation declared war on the Elemental North, and Annadelle. With ties to both the International Freedom Coalition (IFC), and the International Congress of Nations (ICON), Greater Weselton will have a tough fight ahead of them. The IFC alone has 108 nations, and the Rapid Response Force (RRF). Though the RRF is only used in defensive wars, it may be mobilised if it is asked for.

Support in New Roma Republic varies. Hard Right-liners feel that the war is necessary to keeping the IFC and ICON on the top. While most others feel that we cannot spend more time in another war. Conscription may help them with their arguments. The NRR requires 2 years military service immediately after the graduation of High School. That means that much of the Military is made up of young men and women than may not necessarily want to be there. The Military makes them a last priority to send in overseas missions, but with most of the career soldiers in Sassinia, the young men and women will be deployed to Greater Weselton.

Others feel that the NRR is spreading their forces too thin. "This is just like the Roman Empire. They sent their forces everywhere, and look what happened." says peace activist Susan Gladwell. Ms. Gladwell has been fighting the conscription laws since the creation of the NRR (in March). Some other agree with her. But, the government shall not back down, and war is, once again, on the horizon.

First Colonists Land at Armstrong Lunar Base

New Florence -- It was announced today that the first group of civilian colonists have landed on the moon. This comes a few days after a surprise launch. NRSA did not advertise the launch for unknown reasons. Despite this, they released the names and occupations of the first civilian colonists. Yvonne Gredoraivch is a astrophysicist, Herman Fritz is a civil engineer, John Smith is a aerospace engineer, and Aelia Marcellius is a magnetic engineer. In an official statement, it was said these individuals were chosen to be first out of the hundreds that applied because "they are among the best and brightest in their fields, and can help complete ALB (Armstrong Lunar Base). The official plans indicate that a magnetically suspended wheel shall be installed under every building. The purpose of this is to create artificial gravity.

During the same announcement, it was also announced that another launch with another group of colonists shall blast off tomorrow. Dr. Parker, the Director of the NRSA, said that they will also "help in the establishment and construction of the base". It was never stated, but the general consensus in the public is the NRSA is speeding up the construction of this base. The ultimate goal is to get everyday civilians on the base. Though this is the goal, it will take awhile to get there. The Greenhouse and rec areas still need to be built. Likewise, most of the residential areas are still under construction.

The picture in the article is the official artist rendition of the base, which was released by the Government on Monday. The Caesar has not said a speech on the base since the announcement last month. Some wonder if he still cares, or if there are other, more important 'things' that need his attention. Some conspiracy theorists believe the government is building some sort of space based weapon because of the amount of shuttle launches in the last few weeks. Though, most believe this is not true, mostly due to the fact that civilian astronomers have found nothing out of the ordinary orbiting Earth.

The Armstrong Lunar Base is going according to the schedule, and the nation is happy with the progress. Many more are signing up to become colonists. The Senate has already given it a place in the Senate, and has made it an official province.

New Rome -- Today, the Caesar announced that the DEFCON has been raised to 4. Along with this, he has called that the Auxiliaries are called up. This comes a day after the announcement that the Dragomere Islands sunk a New Celisian ship inside their territorial waters. Though an international war is being avoided, the Caesar still called for this. As his reasoning, he stated "We must be ready for anything that may happen. The Air Force can be in the air in 15 minutes is needed. These are only precautions. We will NOT, I repeat, NOT going to deploy our forces at the moment." Tensions are high in the international community, but a peaceful solution shall be found.

New "Starship" released to the Public

New Rome -- Today, the Praetorian Guard Building announced the creation of a brand new starship for the Republic. Despite the connotations, it cannot travel at even half light speed. This announcement comes with the Declassification of the Project NX. For the past few months this was being build in orbit. How it remained classified is a surprise to most New Romans.

The starship shall be christened 'Enterprise', in the honor of Star Trek. Along with the name, the identification will be NX-01. Another is on the planning board, and is scheduled to begin in 30 days. The Enterprise will run on 3 nuclear reactors powering 3 Ion Engines. Experts say that it will be able to reach Mars in 90 days. It has a laser emplacement on the saucer section, and has 100MW. Along with the laser and Ion engines, it has artificial gravity. A magnetically suspended wheel spins, causing 1g of gravity.

The ship makes the use of Armstrong Lunar Base as a jump off point for Mars. It is most likely going to allow a Mars base in year time. Also, it will allow us to visit other moons, like Europa. This opens the Solar System to New Roma Republic.
