Toilets in Your Nation

Postby United States of The One Percent » Sat Aug 30, 2014 1:02 pm

http://www.theguardian.com/global-development/2014/aug/28/toilets-lives-un-chief

Most, but not all, people in US-TOP have regular access to toilets, the most notable exceptions being migrant farm workers and people who can't pay their municipal water bills. We (The One Percent) often enjoy high-end toilets with heated water made from the finest porcelain and/or precious metals, not to mention bidets. Forcing Employing servants to perform personal hygiene services such as wiping is not prohibited, but frowned upon, anyway outside of Sumo training facilities. Those in Our corporate-based underground housing facilities have access to communal facilities for answering calls of nature and cleaning up afterwards.

What proportion of people in your nation have access to toilets? Does your government make any special provisions for public toilet facilities?

Pretty much 100% of Yulis has access to toilets. In private homes etc... there will generally be a dedicated toilet room with a toilet and hand basin although it is also often integrated into a larger bathroom. In public buildings there will be more extensive toilet facilities, with several toilets and handbasins. Public toilets are usually not segregated by gender. Perhaps around 5-10% of public toilets are segregated and around 25% of changing rooms and similar facilities. The hygiene of toilets in Yulis is fairly high, although there is a marked difference between juristictions, where different amounts of money are spent on maintaining them.

OOC: I truly LOVE your weird and in a way psychotic view on stuff, USTOP.

IC: Toilets are as you expect the average Western toilet to be. A notable thing is that there is absolutely zero segregation for gender between facilities. There is no male or female washrooms, and this has allowed for building more elaborate washrooms, that make better use of the available space.

Toilets in East Ceiland

Postby East Ceiland » Sun Aug 31, 2014 1:35 am

East Ceiland has always been a great supporter of the natural environment, and for this reason who needs toilets at all? So much waste for a little bit of sanitary needs.

Spearmint Island prides itself on its public toilets, and each year a competition is held for the best ones on the island.

Toilet blocks are usually large and often include many other features such as wifi, a large screen broadcasting news and even in some cases a coffee bar at the door. As such they tend to end up as meeting places rather than just conveniences, and indeed in a recent survey 42% of islanders said that they often visited public toilet blocks for purposes other than relieving themselves.

All public toilets on the island are unisex and there are cubicles only; no urinals.

All Adabian citizens, with the sad exception of those living in extreme poverty, have access to clean and modern toilets. Pretty much every house in the country has a toilet room.

Toilets are common in the republic , every house has at least one (Most have a lot more since we have huge families) and there are plenty of public toilets to suit most sentient beings. In larger cities that have major starports there are some toilets to suit some of the more unusual aliens.

Public toilets are a unisex design and have private cubicles with a toilet and a sink in each. They tend to be placed in a block of cubicles and there is a janitorial robot that performs maintenance and generally keeps the place tidy and hygienic. Toilet blocks tend to be close to be public baths, in shopping centers, and most public areas.

Everyone home has one, usually bidets are more common but TP exists.
Public toilets however are pay to use (Costs 0.50 Kr) and shopkeepers have customer-only toilets.

We don't have true toilets because we robots don't have to dump waste from their bodies on a seemingly-continual basis.

That said, we do occasionally have to offload used oil and oil filters, old coolant, and old transmission fluid. Almost every home has a receptacle for that which is basically a hole in the floor that goes to a big holding tank underneath the house. A bin next to this opening holds used oil filters, old fuel filters, and other such things.

Decepticons who want to be fancy will use a urinal-style receptacle to collect used fluids. This simply makes it easier to aim by putting the target closer to the drainage ports. It's surprising that more homes don't use this system, since a Decepticon's drainage ports are around 60 feet up from a floor hole.

Since used robotic body fluids aren't filthy in the same way as human waste, it's typical for the receptacles to be right in the workshop, which also holds the new fluids that will be drunk right after dumping the old ones. New oil filters are also right there. Engines don't run long at all without oil or coolant, and transmissions stop working almost immediately without transmission fluid, so it's best to guzzle fresh, new fluids immediately after offloading the old ones.

Workshops also contain all of the other tools and products needed for bodily maintenance, including spare parts, wrenches, torches, a power body wash unit, wax, and other such things. Unlike bathrooms, they could be considered all-around health maintenance areas.

Some people don't like to do fluid changes at home because the underground reservoir will eventually need to be emptied, which is a fairly messy job thanks to the oil sludge that sticks to its sides through the years. These people can - for a fee - use a limited fluid-changing center at a local mechanic's shop so the shop gets to take care of the eventual cleanout.

There are no public oil-changing centers. Nobody's going to leak oil all over the place if he has to wait a few hours to do the job.

What proportion of people in your nation have access to toilets? 99% of people in Freemopia have access to toilets. The 1% of people in Freemopia who might not have access to toilets includes people who are lost or kidnapped.
People who are camping in the deep forest might also by choice, not have access to toilets, however there is plenty of space for them to go outside without it being a health concern.
Tax funded tv, radio, and internet broadcasts, and colored pamphlets mailed to all inhabitants who opt in, inform opting in Freemopians to not pee or poop in or near natural water, to help avoid water contamination, and not to poop or pee on crops, and not to poop or pee on obvious human walking paths, to wash their hands 20+seconds with soap and water after going poop or pee, how to make lye and homemade soap, and sanitation, hygiene, health, and safety information.
Pooping/peeing outside is acceptable as long as it is in an area where it can decompose(soil), is very unlikely to be stepped on, and has a very low risk of contaminating water or food.
Freemopia is a rainforest, temp stays 70-80F year round, poop gets eaten or decomposes faster than in colder climates.

Does your government make any special provisions for public toilet facilities?
Poor people in Freemopia who can't afford, and who's parent's can't afford, a toilet, quality for a tax funded toilet. Parents who can afford it, are forced to provide toilets to their children as long as the child is unable to or can't afford to provide one for them self.
The tax funded toilet is connected to a compost system that composts poop and pee(the hot compost process kills harmful bacteria and removes bad odors. The finished compost can be tested then put around trees). Flush water can be purified, tested, then released into the environment or used for irrigation.
people can also pee or poop on designated outdoor compost piles/composting toilets, or appropriate outdoor areas(each person in Freemopia has at least an acre of land).
Rain water is collected then purified, gravity provides water pressure, then is used for drinking, showering/washing, flushing toilet, then used shower/sink water is purified then used for irrigation.
Soap is also tax funded for the poor.
Standard welfare package for poor people who can't afford it: (house(picture below), $1000 worth of supplies, cell phone with small solar panel charger, healthcare for testing for and treating physical health problems, birth control, security, and a government no interest, credit wont go down if not repaid, no collateral, confidential loans to those who can’t afford it, where they don’t have to pay it back until they have over $33,000 man made property value, to learn how to make survival products). People are given more based on their need.

Freemopia also helps the poor in other nations by sending them basic needs and evacuating/transporting voluntary willing poor people from other nations to Freemopia.

Portable toilets or 'Baja-Majas' (literally shitting-cabins) are commonplace all around Herredømmet Kongerige. They are managed by private entities.

While our government strongly leans towards the libertarian and "laissez faire", it is responsible for the design of the basic infrastructure of our city-domes. Lavatories are required as part of the design of any city-dome because of human flourishing needs.

The vast majority of public lavatories are associated with restaurants. As libertarian as we are, these are required by law because restaurants obviously contribute to the need for lavatories, and they are required to help alleviate the "negative externalities" for which they are directly responsible. These lavatories are free of charge, or in other words funded out of the revenue of the restaurants.

Some lavatories are public in the sense that they are not privately created at all. They are part of the city-dome design itself. These are free of charge, although of course they are paid for with money collected by the government for the operation of the city-dome.

Some lavatories are fully private (such as in shopping malls and hotels) and these are sometimes pay-to-use and sometimes free-of-charge.
