Camouflage used by your nation?

Postby Medwedian Democratic Federation » Mon Jul 21, 2014 9:38 am

Self-explainatory.

In Medwedia, camouflage is only used rarely in military uniforms, usually for Spec Ops units or units operating in weird environments such as underwater.

The uniform coulour for standard uniforms is either dark green or olive green (rarely field gray or brown), for urban combat and spec ops various shades of gray, for night is black or very dark purple, for desert or snow it is white.

Spacesuits usually are dark green.

Our infantry use a camouflage pattern that is reproduced photographically from real photographs of the jungle. It's so realistic that (according to rumour, anyway) the bugs had to be removed digitally before printing to prevent the troops from swatting them. It should be noted that paratroopers wear their red berets even in the bush; this does not make them particularly conspicuous because Fatatatutti has at least a dozen species of birds that are predominantly red.

Yytuskian Camouflage Patterns:

A list of Yytuskian Military Camouflages in Use:

Standard Uniform:

Yytuskian ‘Bräune-Feldfarben’ (YYBrFf):
Image
Adopted as the standard field colour of the Yytuskian Imperial Army in 1677, ‘Bräune-Feldfarben’, or ‘Tan Field Colours’, is the standard uniform camouflage for all Yytuskian forces in the Loyalist Armed Forces, Yytuskian Luftwaffe, and the Yytuskian Navy. A low-level sheen tan colour, it’s very easily able to blend into summer plains, as well as sandy situations and urban areas.
Time in Service: 1677-1945, readopted in 1967.

Arctic Operations:

Yytuskian ‘Schneeleopardenmuster’ (YYSchLE):
Image
Designed in 1945 for use in winter operations, Yytuskian ‘Schneeleopardenmuster’, or ‘Snow Leopard Pattern’, was created by the General-Secretary to better camouflage Yytuskian troops in the winter from enemy eyes through the use of grey stripes on an all white background. This style of winter camouflage was soon adopted by the Loyalist Armed Forces as the mainstream applied winter camouflage, donned on any unit in winter surroundings.
Time in Service: 1945-Present

Grassland Operations:

Yytuskian ‘Grasschnitt-Unterbrechungsmuster’ (YYGrUb):
Image
Designed in 1989 by members of the 17th Panzergruppe for use in forests, plains, and non-winter operations, Yytuskian ‘Grasschnitt-Unterbrechungmuster’, or ‘Grass Cuttings Disruptive Pattern’, was quickly used by members of the 17th Panzergruppe during the training operations that year, showcasing their ingenious designed pattern, which successfully hid all armored vehicles from the 17th. Soon adopted by the rest of the armored divisions in the Loyalist Armed Forces, it proved useful as an armored camouflage, as the regular Yytuskian ‘Bräune-Feldfarben’ stood out too much in fields and forests.
Time in Service: 1989-Present

Yytuskian ‘Splittertarnmuster’ (YYSpTa):
Image
Designed in 1939 by members of the 11th Scharfschützen-Gruppe, ‘Splittertarnmuster’, or ‘Spliter Camouflage Pattern’, was created to blend in with forested surroundings, and was deemed a success at the unit’s annual ‘Hide and Seek’ match. Effectively allowing those camouflaged in it to blend into forested combat zones, this camouflage is exclusively used by members of the 11th Scharfschützen-Gruppe and the 33rd Fallschirmjägerkorps for high profile missions within enemy territories.
Time in Service: 1945-Present

Desert Operations:

Yytuskian ‘Wüste-Ödlandmuster’ (YYWüÖd):
Image
Created as part for the military construction units sent to the Red Desert, ‘Wüste-Ödlandmuster’, or ‘Desert Wasteland Pattern’, was designed by the 106th Logistik-Gruppe who helped out with the construction of the solar farms there. Still used by desert forces of the Loyalist Armed Forces, it has become the embodiment of Yytuskia Desert Operation camouflages.
Time in Service: 1969-Present

Naval Operations:

Yytuskian ‘Marine-Ozeanischenmuster’ (YYMaOz):
Image
Designed for the Yytuskian Navy Forces in 1997, ‘Marine-Ozeanischenmuster’, or ‘Naval Oceanic Pattern’, was quickly put into service within the Yytuskian Navy, surprising many with its tones of colour and splatter effect. Many believed it was a failure as a camouflage pattern, until it was put into testing a month after deployment and blended into the seascape extremely well. From then on, it has graced every seaman and ship within the Navy.
Time in Service: 1997-Present

Camouflage is for the weak, we use solid colors of blue, black, grey, beige, or green; it depends on the environment, the African troops wear beige for the desert.

Camouflage used for these units differs depending on the environment being operated in.

Most troops where a variant of the TTsKO pattern. KLMK is also widespread as an over suit, mainly used by marksmen and snipers. Flecktar-D is used by some VDV (paratroopers) units. White over suits are used in snow.

The military and police forces use all of the camouflages found on this database. Spetsnaz operators also use a type of active camouflage that surrounds the user with a magnetically-confined cloud that confuses human senses and hides the user from view, working in rather the same manner as mosquito repellent. The cloud can be seen through with thermal vision, however.

For urban operations, the AGF (Alpine Ground Forces) uses either:

the Urban Camouflage Pattern

or the Adaptive Camouflage Pattern. This is also the main camouflage pattern used by the AMF (Alpine Marine Forces).

For woodland/grassland operations, the AGF uses:

For desert operations, the AGF uses:

the Desert Pattern. More commonly known as "chocolate chip."

Camouflage patterns are tailored individually for every environment of every world a campaign takes place on, the powered armor suits and smaller vehicles being coated in a layer of adaptive nanopaint, which can be reconfigured to adapt the desired pattern and shade.

Larger vehicles like heavy mechwalkers generally aren't camouflaged at all for the simple reason of being too big to conceal effectively.

Due to much of combat taking place in urban setting in this age, the default, unaltered camouflage pattern of Sidh powered armor and vehicles is plain grey, the colour of ash and dust that is bound to be abundant in any embattled city.

It's also possible to attach fabric loops to the armor suits so that elements of environment, such as leaves and twigs can be incorporated to enhance camouflage.

The FEAR (Fractal Enhanced Ambient Resolution) pattern was designed in 2007 with the intent of developing a camouflage pattern that was completely modular, in a pattern that could be re-configured to provide effective concealment in any global operating environment, something that has not yet been achieved by any other single pattern.

Over the last few years New Hayesalian operations have been focused on woodland terrains, but due to the diversity of the New Hayesalian and foreign terrain meant the union struggled to field effective camouflage for the soldiers in theater, and some Special Forces had developed entirely new patterns with varying success, others had adopted commercial patterns and some have just tried to re-work their original pattern with a more appropriate colour palette. This issue has drawn attention to the importance of diversity. There is no such thing as a "universal pattern" and even transitional patterns have their limits.

FEAR was designed specifically to address this issue, the approach was to create a multi-directional "modular camouflage system" a pattern designed from concept to be a re-configurable package: The layers of the pattern can be arranged to created three different textures, each texture having its own characteristics such as neutral, subdued and dominant macro elements and high, medium and low frequency visual noise. Each configuration can be loaded with any pre-calibrated color palettes enabling us to tailor a variant to match the texture (ambient resolution) and naturally occurring colours of any environment.

The pattern uses layering techniques to create a perception of depth or relief by simulating light reflecting off a solid object or surface by incorporating highlights and shadows. This is achieved by carefully calculated placement of light, medium and darker elements (enhanced fractals) which gives an otherwise 2D shape the appearance of being a 3D physical object whether it be a clump of leaves, an outcrop of rock or a depression in the ground.

These two combined attributes not only create a diverse spectrum of camouflage variants that offer unprecedented environmental concealment but also provide a distinctive signature for visual identification which is essential during joint operations and is especially well suited to special forces units that may require rapid development of a specific variant.

The current patterns are:
Alpine
Arctic
Coniferous
Desert
Desert, Slight Woodland Bias
Desert, Heavy Woodland Bias - Standard Issue for the New Hayesalian Air Force
Temperate- Standard Issue for the New Hayesalian Army
Tropical
Urban/Naval - Standard Issue for the New Hayesalian Navy

While there is no standard military uniform (due to the decentralized militia nature of our armed forced), black is generally the most common color used whether it be T-shirt and jeans or battlefield uniforms. This is because it is considered an intimidating color.

For those who don't care to intimidate but moreover infiltrate, there is very little in the way of clothing-based camouflage. This is due to the open-source technology that is universally available to all of the armed forces. Most use some sort of cloaking device, be it one that reflects all light blends into it's surroundings.

Uniforms and camouflage are seen as two different concepts, but aren't mutually exclusive (camouflage with or without uniforms, uniforms with or without camouflage).

Regular forces use smart camo technology on their uniforms and armor where nanites in the material can reconfigure themselves to adjust the colour of that material by altering their shape to reflect different wavelengths of light, changing patterns requires the user to have an active power source (The small solar panel in their field kit suffices for this) but once changed it requires no additional power to maintain that pattern. The smart camo system allows the user to select the camouflage pattern that is most appropriate to their situation from a library of 10000+ patterns.

Our special forces use thermoptic cloaking that causes the outer surface of their armor to conform exactly to the visual and thermal properties whatever is behind them from the perspective of the observer. This renders the user of this armor virtually invisible. This technology requires constant access to an active power source to remain active, Thermoptic camo can also function as smart camo when it is unpowered.

A majority of our vehicles use the smart camo, although some vehicles are fitted with thermoptic cloaking.

In addition to visual camouflage, the military utilizes Adaptive Thermal Camouflage for its armoured infantry vehicles and main battle tanks. Designed and manufactured by Imperial Military Technology Research Bureau, the Mark 5 Adaptive Camouflage System uses an array of Peltier than can be rapidly heated and cooled to create a desired image. The system also compliments the armour system of the vehicle which increases the safety of the vehicle crew.

Currently, tests are ongoing for infantry, aircraft, and naval use.

Kusthet military uniforms are usually presented in a drab brown or gray. Camouflage, when appropriate, is provided by the use of a multi-purpose triangle of fabric called a 'Shelter-Half' or Zeltbahn, and a fabric cover for the helmet. These are printed in double-sided camouflage with summer/winter options. The camouflage itself is a splitter pattern similar to german splittermunster '44, cut through with 'raindrop' streaks to help break up the coloured shapes.
