Unions in your Countries

Postby Veratia » Sat Jul 12, 2014 8:38 pm

What sort if labor organizations (if any) are present in your respective nations?

Worker's Councils are an important aspect of Veratia's sociopolitical landscape. They are the basic unit of society and hold considerable power. Workers in every industry ( private and public) elect a council of representatives that help regulate the workplace and fulfill other roles as well.

Laws strongly favor Workers' Councils, mainly because they are crucial to the Empire's political stability by keeping workers happy. Soldiers and Tertiary-educated individuals do not have WCs.

Workers' Councils and Trade Unions have the ultimate power over Alsheb's economy. The Councils run the factories, collective farms and companies of our nation, since private enterprise is almost completely illegal. The government often discusses with the Councils and Unions on matters of economy and work environment. Workers' Councils also have the official right to delegate a certain amount of members to seat in the Revolutionary People's Assembly.

Well our nation is still working/fighting for becoming a Nation but we're not sure yet on unions most likely will not be allowed. Only hard insutries will have unions ie oil and manufacturing/agriculture but teachers unions and such will not fly.

"Worker's councils" are not found in Equestria. However, labor unions do exist. The largest and most powerful of these is the Equestrian Teamsters Union. The Teamsters represent those ponies (Earth ponies mostly, although they have a Pegasus locals) whose job it is to pull carts, wagons, and coaches. The Teamsters have fought long and hard to maintain decent pay and working conditions for the humble cart-pony.

Distruzio is a distributist State. As such, labor unions are considered a repulsive usurpation of the individuals right to work. Guild Halls representing the interest of workers operate on behalf of workers to secure the flow of trade to the employed members of Distruzi society. Guild Halls maintain the materials and equipment necessary for gainful employment and also offer training for potential employees in a given industry. The Guilds are required, according to the letters of privilege procured from the Crown authority present in each City-State, to provide for the infirm or elderly members, as well as widows and orphans of guild members, funeral benefits, and a 'journeying' allowance for those needing to travel to find work. Not each Guild, however, is authorized by the Crown relying, instead, upon a charter of operation from the individual City-State in which they are located. These 'local' Guilds provide a competition of trade with other 'local' Guilds from other City-States and 'national' Guilds alike thus securing the best possible price for the consumer. Handicraft associations - that is to say associations of laborers not officially affiliated with 'local' or 'national' Guilds perpetuate this competition by threatening the local monopolizing of particular Guilds.

While some may say that the Guild negatively affects industrial economies by failing to appropriately provide for positive externalities within the greater economy, the Crown maintains that it is her responsibility to account for this frailty within the Guild system. Guilds provide the necessary social capital used to establish and maintain normative behavior, common information, mutual sanctions, collective political action and just economic activity within the greater Distruzi economy while bending to local character and variations of culture within the Realms. Guilds are utilized as a way to break monopolizing corporations and to secure laborer privilege throughout the Realms.

There is a high level of unionization in Radictistan, particularly within "heavy" industries such as steelmaking, shipbuilding, and automobile manufacturing. Many Radictistani labor unions are affiliated with the Radictistani Congress of Trade Unions.

Trade unions have been prominent in Alizeria since the 18th century, although they became powerful forces in 1871 when they were legalised by the first Liberal government.

They have had a considerable impact on Alizeria's culture, economy and society especially throughout the 20th century. Although originally they were aligned to the Liberal Party, many trade unionists went on to form the Labour Party in the late 19th century, who went on to in turn merge with the Tory Party to create the modern Conservative Party, who brought about Alizeria's welfare state.

While their influence is still notable, it is slowly beginning to wane, mainly due to the fact that most of the industries where trade unionism was strongest have declined.

Every Freneq corporation, LLC, LP or other limited-liability company (excepting cooperatives) must host at least one independent union for the company's non-managerial/professional positions in order to maintain their limited-liability status. Thus "right to work" is an obsolete concept here, in fact many regard those who do advocate for it (especially more right-leaning groups) as hypocritical in regards to what sorts of moral hazard they deal with.

The closed shop, however, is prohibited by law. Usually after being hired for a job one has thirty days to join the company's union post, if they don't they run the risk of being fired.

There is also a strict separation between those running the political sphere of the union and those running the collective bargaining sphere.

On average for all sectors, about 45% of the Freneq workforce is unionized.

The whole Wolfian workforce is unionised and the unions hold quite a lot of influence. The government is quite grateful for this as the unions take care of monitoring worker's rights and ensuring that they are upheld, and sparing the government the problem of doing so. It is often joked about that the Wolfian State has this way privatised worker rights. Banning employees to be in unions would be both futile and illegal.

Trade unions exist in most industries and careers; the unions have some power, but not too much, and the average worker's conditions is good. Unions were illegal, but legalized twice and now are legal today. The state nor the employer do not mandate anyone to join a union, and no workforce is required to be unionized. We have no communistical "Worker's Councils".

Trade Unions and Worker's Council are the very foundation of our fair nation, with the fat and cruel capitalists brought down the workers and kept them down for their own personal gain. They even had the government in their pocket, making sure the worker was not afforded anything. This spawned a Red Revolution, or the 2nd American Civil War.

Labor Unions are legal .
But are different from the labor unions found in other nations. They provide unemployment , health insurance, training. For there members. From the dues that the members pay .In addition to contract negations.

Trade unions have historically been very powerful in Beaurochelle, at times crippling major industries in order to attain outcomes suitable to the union. The past couple of decades have seen a change.

After a general mining, steel, and auto worker's strike orchestrated by the three applicable unions in 1995, laws were enacted making union membership optional for all workers (membership had previously been industry-dependent but typically mandatory). This change effectively crippled the larger trade unions as membership waned and smaller, location/installation specific unions and worker's council have popped up, touting a more personal and direct association with members.

Most workplaces in Fatatatutti have a workers' council to represent the collective interests of the workers. The workers' council is empowered to take control of the workplace if it so chooses (with or without compensation to the previous owner) and many workplaces are now controlled by their workers. The government provides assistance to workers' groups who require working capital, etc.

There are also some powerful trade unions. Notably, the Teamsters' Union determines which side of the road you drive on on our inter-city highways. (Road trains can have six or more trailers and weigh upwards of a hundred tons, so other vehicles are well-advised to stay on the side the Teamsters choose.) The Teamsters also sponsor a Heavy Infantry regiment.

Trade unions are run by the state, every worker of an industrial or commercial enterprise being part of one. These unions represent the interests of the working class in the government, delegating members with full citizenship as representatives.

All unions are structured similarly to other Imperial government institutions, divided in planetary, system, sector and Imperial levels. Imperium-wide union leaders wield great political power and represent the working people of their respective industries in the General Assembly. Due to the great diversity of industries, and a limited number of seats reserved for such representatives, many independent unions are merged on an Imperial scale. For example, Union of Aerospace Industries represents just about every industry that involves the aerospace, ranging from gravship and atmospheric craft manufacturers to shipbuilders and space navigators to asteroid miners. Other industrial unions are similarly grouped under such "mega-unions".

Trade unions are legal, but extremely rare. In most cases, workers who think they're getting the shaft will either quit and go away, or quit and then come back one night and raid the company to the bare walls. Particularly egregious employers also risk arson, bombing, or even assassination.

The threat of decidedly non-peaceful responses to poor conditions or overly-low pay means that most positions around here are pretty good in comparison with similar types of employment in other nations. Our positions also pay insanely high, thanks to the fact that most Decepticons would rather go raid regardless of workplace conditions. This creates a perpetual labor shortage in all but the most respectable industries.

Even so, unions may crop up if a company has a security force big enough to stop individuals or duos from successfully attacking the premises. This often makes such companies feel like they can just offer any old deal and get the more desperate people of the country to take the jobs. Eventually, enough workers will be angered to form a counter-force of suitable size to pose a military challenge to the security force. When that happens, the ensuing mini-war makes the old Earthian battles between unions and Pinkerton agents look like kids playing with sticks and spitballs.

There are guilds in the republic for every profession, they are citizen operated regulatory bodies that define the standards for that profession such as the quality of the product, the examinations for qualification levels in that profession and the working conditions, pay and hours.

There have been no labor disputes in the past 150 years and the guilds are largely satisfied since they regulate many of the issues that used to cause disputes.
