They would provide both direct and indirect fires against point targets, and would use a variety of munition types (anti-tank, thermobaric, HE frag, etc.)

Sort of a hybrid between an anti-tank company and a rocket artillery battery.

I'll be needing this.
Imperializt Russia wrote:Half of the point of "OICW", today at least, is that they offer a high-precision capability to engage point targets at long range. This task does not require the firepower of a 40mm system, and allows more ammunition to be carried.

I think my forces will use something akin to the OICW and K11, albeit with up-sized bullet caliber. Other Immortals will have to be fought either with heavily armed drones or close combat.

I'm Kharkaran, BTW.

Why are you eating in combat at all.

You eat when your buddy watches your position, so you can eat and not get taken by surprise, when you're done your buddy eats while you cover him.

And yet, in the actual trenches of WW2, there were people whose job was to deliver hot meals to the advancing front-line Soviet troops in Berlin, three times a day. Sometimes they failed. But certainly they existed.

Hey great, guess what? They are!

FN FCU + M203 + 40mm HEAB.

The US Army realised that 20mm is actually a terrible caliber, and 25mm isn't much better, so it's just going to be putting muzzle devices on 40mm, FCUs on the M16, and using programmable rounds. Same concept, but less risk.

Our military has too much emphasis on killing people. Next you know, we'll be adopting a general purpose cartridge.

Even if a 20mm round only wounds, it'll be effective as a suppressive fire tool in smoking out the enemy.

Explain how we're using mostly the same rifle and have gone thru three types of body armor? It seems like the army is learning to focus more on not dying then killing.

An oversight that is easily corrected by the addition of one. Plus, if it's a single shot weapon you could safely make it so that the bayonet mounts around the top barrel (the rifle one) and has the handle inserted into the bottom one (the big 20 or 25mm one).

Thats because lighter body armor types have been made available and meet the ability to defeat modern munitions.

Because it's actually really difficult to upgrade a rifle meaningfully, whereas materials science has allowed several body armor upgrades.
