If you were once a Monarchy, how do you treat the exiles?

Postby Flanders-Holland » Thu Mar 27, 2014 7:38 pm

Basically, how do you treat the people who was your last king, as well as the descendants of said king?

In Flanders-Holland, since 1912, the Van Vlaanderen dynasty - who were the kings and queens of Flanders-Holland until 1792 in the Dutch Revolution - currently have the choice to reside in Flanders-Holland, or to live somewhere else. Everyone who was the head of the Van Vlaanderen since 1912 chose to live in Flanders-Holland, in a private home a few miles outside Amsterdam. The estate is open to the Government, and people the security guards let in.

Also, if you still have a Monarchy, figure head or not, then there is no point to post here.

If you were a democracy for all of your nation's life, then don't post here either.

We are a former monarchy, yes indeed. But how we treat the former royal family? Well, the king fled after the sudden uprising into another nation. The queen went with him. We don't know which nation he is in now, although some suspect it is Lenora. We don't know if he is still even living. But the king would probably be treated very poorly if he stayed.

If we had ever had an absolute monarchy to dispose of, they would probably have faced the guillotine or the firing squad.

With barely-contained adoration and reverence. And a possible civil war in their name.

It is a widely known secret that the current Republic is detested by a good 80% of the population, it's just that every other choice is even worse. The last King however died a while ago and left no officla heir, so a Republic was formed. A good portion of the population is awaiting the return or emergence of a new King, whether from a secret surviving hier to the previous King (who was infertile, so that's unlikely) or from the spirit of the Monarch finding a new vessel. The test to be recognized as the new Monarch is to try and remove the Royal Sword from the Royal Throne where it is embedded. So far, no one has succeeded and all attempts to blow the Throne up or rip the Sword out with extremely high amounts of force have ended up doing absolutely nothing.

It is known that the Nationalist Navy will likely join with anyone who manages to remove the sword, which means that should a new Monarch be found they would instantly have the support of a good third of the military. Most of the smaller regions of the nation, as well as large streches of the bigger regions, also maintain loyalty to the Monarchy above all else and will likely support it immediately. On the other hand, many major corporations and the national gendarmerie will likely maintain support of the Republican government, as will the Port Cities. The Nationalist Army will likely split over the issue, with a part siding with the Monarchy and a part just going rogue and trying to carve out its own fiefdom. The major question is the various groups that have emerged without ties to the Monarchy, most notably the Power Party and the Unified Force Branch. The Power Party, a coalition between socialist and fascist rebel groups, was formed out of ideology and so has very little care towards the Monarchy. The fascist part has some respect for the institution, but believes that it is best consigned to the dust bin of history. The Unified Force Branch is a wild card and nobody knows what they think or will do about a new Monarch.

The current queen is also the prime minister, we once had an imperial system of government but we have since moved on to a meritocratic democracy that retains a ceremonial monarchy.

The Kayçar is elected by the top generals if a successor was not appointed. It is not a hereditary position at all, however. Especially if the appointed successor has no support by the top generals. They'll turn on the leader like a shark and put someone more tolerable in power right away.

Misread this.

This all occurred back in the end of the Middle Ages, so they were brought out to the headsmen block and beheaded before the crowd of angry peasants.

Following the Revolution of 1792, most of the royal family was wiped out, and what remained was exiled and immediately fell into conflict over who was the legitimate heir-apparent (all the King's siblings, children and cousins had been consumed in the fires of the revolution, so the matter was quite difficult to settle). The same fate happened to most of the aristocracy, and all were led into exile. Anyone part of a noble family and who entered Breheim were to be executed, until 1809 when the laws were amended, and they would only be executed if they: 1) Renounced all titles and claims to nobility for themselves and their children, or 2) Directly held a title at any point before 1792. This did not include the royal family. The laws were further amended in 1907, allowing people who still claimed to a title to move to Breheim, but they would be barred from citizenship. The Royal Family was not included in this either.

In short, any member of the former Royal Family of Breheim who sets foot on Breheimian soil is considered a criminal worthy of execution. Descendants of other noble houses may return freely, but need to renounce nobility in order to attain citizenship.

The entire royal family was murdered en masse in 1953, 23 years before the FHPDRK came into existence. There are no exiles.

Of course, we would have done the same thing.

TRAITOR's DEATH!!! They should be hung, then CUT down while still alive, then have their bowels and genitals removed and shown to them, then drawn and quartered...After that, send a quarter of their remains to all 4 corners of the nation to be put on display...That'll discourage anyone from wanting to be "KING" someday...or even RELATED to one.

The BaRen, in the years of 1798 to 1939, was 'ruled' by the Ursali Dynasty. The dynasty was overthrown with the outbreak of ww2, and was under US occupation until the 50s. The last remaining 'Royal', Lars Ursali, currently resides in the city of Nivix, and is treated well by the people of the BaRen, most notably the Easterners, and is seen as a symbol of unity in the otherwise devastated country. He holds no political office, and has no known children.

Our last royal family, the house of Targutai, has hundreds of people bouncing around. The last Emperor and his family were simply thrown out of the palace and told, 'fend for yourselves. 'His lineal descendants are still alive and kicking, and reside in all parts of the old empire. They keep to themselves, though, but they're still quite wealthy. There are no serious royalist sentiments anywhere, and nobody with the means to do it or even attempt it has tried for a restoration.

Kaitjan was a monarchy until 1920. The ruling family was overthrown by an uprising in the capital city Mozgúl and caused the Civil war. Most of the kings family was executed by anarchist forces the same year. Some relatives of the family do however survive and live abroad. Most fled to the USA. The kaitjanese government has made it clear that the former nobles are not welcome in the country, and will face prosecution and possible execution if they return.
The People's Republic of Kaitjan is a nation most glorious: a totalitarian communist dictatorship set against a backdrop of vast jungles, great rivers and a horribly tropical climate. Kaitjan is renowned for its all-encompassing militarism, rampant xenophobia, isolationist tendencies and a great love for tigers and tiger motifs.

Korea's last imperial dynasty was the House of Yi, whose present members currently reside in South Korea. Since their return to the Korean peninsula following the end of Japanese colonialism, members of the House of Yi have largely abstained from participation in or commentary on matters of political consequence.

As the DPRK the government propagated negative sentiments of the imperial period; in official capacities it was referred to only as the "imperial period" and the founder of the dynasty was publicly decried as a traitor to the Korean people. Following its reorganization as the People's Republic of Bukjoseon in 1999, these conscious criticisms were removed from the propagandic line and the historical legitimacy of Joseon Dynasty was passively acknowledged as an element of Korean history.

They best run! 250land was once part of a larger empire and considers the old imperial family none of it's business, especially after mobs killed the nobility that were in charge of the province that today makes up 250land.

Vera's former ruling class have essentially merged into the partially autonomous regime or returned to simply being large land holders.

Holy Genevas nobility/ruling class mostly fled after the collapse of their state and have wisely either disappeared completely or brought themselves an army for protection.
