1. From which source your nation was inspired from (Movie, series, game, etc...) ?
It all started with E. E. "Doc" Smith and his Lensman books. The planet and the species are loosely based on Lyrane II. New Lyrane doesn't exist in the Lensman universe, and many other things are very different as well, but that's where it started from.

The political and economic system is mainly based on the US. The culture has some Confucianism and various polytheist traditions.

Simply put, I'm trying to strike a balance between Author Appeal, Flawed Utopia, Nightmare Fuel, and Realism... IN SPACE!

2. Why was your nation inspired from this source ?
Lyrane II. A tropical planet full of naked lesbians, what's not to like? I started thinking about a society like that and how it might actually work.

Well, the Jankenjin are my own invention, a thought experiment on alternative sexual biology and how that would affect society. As for sources of inspiration, I guess that the concept of "ambisexuality" (beings that can be either male or female depending on their circumstances) owes its origins to Ursula K. Le Guin's The Left Hand of Darkness and Rumiko Takahashi's Ranma 1/2.

I had a few sources actually. Firstly, there was Dishonored. The sort of minimalist steampunk style it portrayed appealed to me greatly (as I'm not as big on gears, goggles, and brass as other people). However, it was also somewhat inspired by a dream I had that tried to mix Elder Scrolls, steampunk, and post apocalyptic parts into it. I tried to make it work for a bit, but it was WAY too complex, so I broke up my dream into two separate stories, so from that Dalcaria was born. However, I took further influence from V For Vendetta, Victorian era influences, numerous steampunk art images, and unwittingly some real life national happenings (ie. The unification of Germany. Though Dalcaria is more styled after the UK, our unification was less unwanted than the UK's unification. There was still violence, but mostly it was against rather abusive leaders, benevolent ones almost always supported unification).

It all kinda just started off from a very simple idea, but after I started getting ideas on how to expand it, it just kind of grew beyond what I had ever intended. "The Dictators" era was somewhat based off of V for Vendetta and Dishonored, though I took it slightly further. We had numerous dictators all fighting for power (kinda what seemed to happen a bit in Dishonored what with getting betrayed by your ex-allies, and what also kinda happened at the end of V for Vendetta when what's-his-name back-stabbed the Chancellor to try and take power for himself).

Ohh... let's see.

Vicky was born in 2009 during my concept of an AH story regarding if the Philippines were not invaded by Spanish but instead by the Brits. Initially It was based in India, Malaysia and British.

Then Geofiction came. Vicky slowly takes away his old skin and he turns into a more "Asian" nation. The RW stuff was removed and became a thing of his own.

Then came Orsa, Elysium, Arden/Eshraval and Aedia, where these things influenced Vicky and became a very East Asian archipelago. These things also helped me do realist stuff. So to recap, Vicky's inspired by the Philippines, Malaysia, Japan. Tibet, Feudalism, Agamar (Google it), and Koreans.

We're basically Devanagari using Hokkien speakers.

Mostly Kievan Rus and to a lesser extent other medieval Slavic states. The magic system of being possessed by a ghost to gain arcane powers was inspired by The Exorcist and possession folklore, with the realm that the ghosts reside in being pretty much ripped from Insidious.

The names of the state, cities, and people in my nation were inspired by the ancient civilizations of the Near East: Sumer, Assyria, and Akkad (and Babylonia, to a lesser extent). Real-life Adab was an ancient Sumerian city; its ruins are located in Bismaya, Wasit Province, Iraq. The Islamic Golden Age also served as an inspiration, and was the reason why I made Sunni Islam the official religion and Arabic the official language of my nation, which I imagine to include all of Mesopotamia and the Levant down to the eastern edge of the Sinai Peninsula.

The concept of a vast, multinational state (there are Sumerians, Akkadians, Assyrians, Arabs, Jews, and Persians, among others) was inspired by the Austrian Empire (Austria-Hungary after the Austro-Hungarian Compromise of 1867).

The institution of the monarchy, led by a hopefully benevolent emperor wielding vast, unchallenged (except if he is regarded as incompetent, which usually results in his deposition) political and military power, was inspired by the absolute monarchies of 17th-century Europe, with an element of enlightened absolutism in it. His Imperial Majesty's Privy Council was inspired by the one in the United Kingdom.

The importance of national defense and strength in preserving the State, Government, and People of Adab was inspired by the Songun (military first) policy adopted by North Korea, and Adab's powerful military was inspired by the North Korean armed forces, known as the Korean People's Army.

The flag of Adab is the current flag of Iraq, adopted by the Council of Representatives of Iraq in 2008.

The geography, name and main cities were made up by me when I was a kid, drawing inspiration from the futuristic designs in F-Zero and Megaman X. From there, I added the dragons, eco-utopianism and tokusatsu to round up the features.

If I were to peg real-life nations that inspired it, I'd say it blends aspects from South Korea, Brazil, the Netherlands, Japan, Iceland, Bhutan and Armenia.
