SondriAlert
History of SondriAlert: The origins of the underground news and information service known as SondriAlert can be traced back to a citizen of arguably one of the most oppressive regimes in the region of Sondria, the Luso-Cron Union and more specifically, the ‘Orange Half’, the Imperial Federation of Crontor. Just another authoritarian regime in Sondria, a region mired in oppression, genocide, and bloodshed, Crontor was home to a man by the name of William Alexander. A fervent nationalist and promoter of Crontorian superiority in all affairs, a young William Alexander had joined the Union Armed Forces straight out of high school and steadily moved up the ranks to that of the second most powerful position, that of the Imperial Consul, the direct underling of the Union Supreme Commander, the commander and leader of the Union Armed Forces.
Imperial Consul Alexander had a meritorious and celebrated career all throughout his various ranks in the Union Armed Forces. His most important command before his appointment to Imperial Consul was at the head of Beblian Command or BEBCOM, where he worked closely with Colonial Defense Forces and the Union Armed Forces to suppress and eradicate insurgent movements including the Beblian Democratic Liberation Front and the United Beblian Liberation Front. In Beblis, in his capacity as Field Marshal, Alexander first began to question the actions of his fellow countrymen. In Beblis, his authority largely limited him to advising CDF officials and making sure that land and property belonging to the Union remained safe. His own units rarely saw combat and for the most part did not even leave their bases, massive walled complexes that stood as Union bastions in a war torn nation. Simply put, the CDF was not a friend of human rights campaigners, and ethnic Beblians dreaded the regular appearances of CDF soldiers and convoys in their cities and towns. Unsanctioned public executions, looting, and charges of ethnic cleansing were all commonly attributed to CDF soldiers and despite widespread coverage and the inherent publicity of the committed atrocities, intensive media censorship and a travel ban for all Union and foreign citizens to Beblis ensured that this genocide went on relatively unnoticed. Alexander had no power, however, to direct the CDF, a power reserved for the Supreme Commander, at that time a position belonging to the infamous Anchli S. Rockepeller. Supreme Commander Rockepeller however did nothing to redirect CDF policy as much as Alexander pestered him. Eventually, Rockepeller did make a change although it was not something that Alexander expected. Field Marshal Alexander became Imperial Consul Alexander and Field Marshal Walter Crogden of Central Command or CENTCOM, became the Field Marshal of Beblian Commander where he carried out Rockepeller’s directives with no complaints or questions. Such was the continuation of an intense personal rivalry between the two as Crogden held the most coveted position in the entire UAF aside from an Imperial Consul, that being the Field Marshal of Central Command which was seen as the stepping stone to the position of Supreme Commander.
While his service in Beblis had made the now Imperial Consul begin to question his allegiance to the Union, it was the Pagan Purge that resulted in his resignation and flight from Union borders, never to return. There was always a sizable minority of pagan worshippers in the Union but they were far outnumbered by the Lusitanian Catholics, Cronists, and atheists that comprised the majority of the Union’s population. It was decided that this rather vocal minority, constant opponents to Union policy in both Crontor and New Lusitaniagrad, would have to be silenced. It was a simple process, tie the pagans to terrorist groups, engineer a series of bombings, launch an anti-pagan propaganda campaign and within six months, public opinion supported the destruction of the Union’s pagan community. Pagans were barred from military or government service, their children forced out of schools, and publicly lambasted for their views.
This would have no effect on Alexander personally, aside from the simple fact that his wife and his two children were practicing pagans. The reins of Operation Thunderclap, the Union Armed Forces operation against the pagans was handed to none other than Imperial Consul Alexander, who was now torn between duty and his family. Alexander decided that he would indeed carry through with Operation Thunderclap, but informed his wife and children of the impending catastrophe, advising them to seek shelter at a remote pagan center of worship on the outskirts of Hemmington in the Imperial Federation. So they fled, assured of their safety in this sanctuary while Alexander, rather unwillingly, prepared to carry out the genocide of the pagans.
In 1993, Union citizens across Crontor and New Lusitaniagrad witnessed a military operation on an epic scale as millions of Union pagans were arrested or killed by security forces. Alexander was forced to work directly with the CPSOU, the Crontorian Police Special Operations Unit, and the Lusitanian Commission, the respective secret police forces of the Imperial Federation and Lusitanian Impireacht. What bothered Alexander the most was not that he was forced to oversee the actions of other agencies, more so that up until unmarked officials arrived at his office, he had no clue that either organization existed. Both organizations were tasked with hunting down pagans that had avoided the original military sweep, coming to homes in the middle of the night and snatching people from their beds for transport to prison camps where they would spend the rest of their lives. Alexander realized, as he facilitated the clean and efficient imprisonment of millions of his fellow countrymen, that this was going on without the public or international community having the slightest clue what was happening in the Union. Spreading information of the atrocities to the outside world was treason, something that Alexander was unwilling to commit, or at least not yet.
After months of hunting, the CPSOU located a sizable pagan refugee presence at a location just outside of Hemmington. This was the same location where Alexander’s wife and children were hiding from security forces. When the information reached Alexander, he ordered no action to be taken due to the fact the facility was hosting hundreds of women and children. However, CPSOU did not report only to Alexander, but to Rockepeller as well, one of two people who could override Alexander’s decisions. Rockepeller without a second thought ordered an airstrike on the building much to Alexander’s horror. No remains were found at the site, which had been flattened by several bunker buster bombs, a fact Alexander learned when he reported for duty the next morning, only to find his order not to attack the building had been overturned.
From that moment on, Imperial Consul Alexander renounced his citizenship and position in the Union and fled to Euphran. The CPSOU, quickly realizing he was fleeing the country, with no less than memory cards full of incriminating information about the Union, tried to stop him but was unable to prevent him from entering the Socialist Republic of Euphran. In Euphran, he lived under the protection of the Euphranian government where he was constantly hunted by various Union intelligence and military agencies. In 1995, he happened to come across a Marquesan intelligence official who managed to get Alexander political asylum in the Shogunate. There, he was given an expansive villa, a pension, and private security with the agreement that he would share information about the Union to Shogunate military and government officials. Alexander realized that his vow to destroy the Union, the entity that destroyed his life and family, could be done from the safety of his villa.
In 1995, SondriAlert was created. Intended to stand apart from the government dominated news of Sondria, such as the Union Broadcasting Company and the Sondrian Regional News Network, SondriAlert was intended to rely on citizen reporting and interaction to expose the lies and abuses of governments across Sondria. Regular everyday people, political dissidents, and marginalized groups were encouraged to share their stories, their experiences, and most importantly, the information that their governments did not want shared with the rest of the world. On this anonymous forum, regular people could interact and share information without fear of persecution or censorship. Alexander was aiming to create a grassroots network to expose the lies and abuses of governments across Sondria and hoped that this exposure would lead to action against them.
In the present day, SondriAlert has spread to every corner of Sondria, attracting tens of millions of everyday Sondrians despite its outlaw in several countries. Over the years, it has exposed abuse after abuse from regional governments and led to international outcry on a variety of issues. As the region moves into the 21st century, the hope is that SondriAlert will continue to expand and grow regionally furthering the cause of free press and citizen reporting. Unless of course, Sondrian governments decide to stem this tide…

. S O N D R I . A L E R T . "The Whole Truth, Nothing But" Topic: Welcome Submitted By: A This Is the Real Sondria Tell me fellow Sondrians, how safe do you really feel? Are you content sitting and reading this very post? Are you at the present time at all concerned about your freedoms? Your rights? No? You aren't? Well you should be. You are a fool to be content. You are a fool to feel safe when right now, your government is planning and plotting against you. Bread and circus my friends. You are a slave to their media, their education, and their authority. You may not know it. You probably don't want to accept it. But I am here to tell you that is the case. Above all we are Sondrians. We all live, work, and die together but not as citizens of independent nations but as Sondrians. Together we suffer as well, under the yoke of authoritarian governments that lie and abuse us for their selfish goals. Nations such as the Union, the Aquilinian Empire, and the Imperial Emirate of Mahdah regularly abuse their citizens, violating their rights as human beings and Sondrians. But these nations are not the exception to this tragedy. These nations are among the majority of Sondria's countries, authoritarian and totalitarian regimes, dictatorships, and monarchies. They are stains on the tapestry of history, bloated and greedy nations keeping their people in line with propaganda and threats. Even declared democracies, nations such as the Elder Republic of Erjunhuf, are not immune from this oppressive track. All governments have secrets. Every nation in Sondria has something that they do not wish to share. As citizens of Sondria we deserve to know what our taxes go towards. We deserve to be informed of the actions and policies that they carry out. Why? Why do we need to know this? Why can't I sit happy and safe in my house? Why must I challenge my government? Fool. Your duty is to question. Do no accept what is given, take what you deserve. You deserve truth. Freedom. Liberty. True democracy. These are not phrases meant to be carved under the statue of a famous politician or military leader. They are false profits. No, those words, their values, are meant to be imbued in the lives and thoughts of every Sondrian. Freedom is the right of all sentient species. I was not always allowed this freedom. My story is a tragic one, made tragic by the actions of an oppressive regime whom I have vowed to destroy. That is why I founded SondriAlert. We as citizens of Sondria have a duty to know the whole truth and to share the whole truth, not simply accept the news presented to us by corrupt governments and their henchmen in regional news organizations. We have a duty to tell our stories, the stories and secrets that our governments do not want the wider world to know. This is what will be done here. But we must be wary, my fellow Sondrians. Not everyone will support this aim. There are many who would wish to see us fail. Anonymity is key. Authenticity is needed. The truth can no longer be shrouded in a fog of lies. It must be brought to the forefront but done so carefully and in a considerate manner, to not endanger the people that risk their lives everyday bring us the truth. With the truth, we can challenge the governments that oppress us daily. We can stand united as citizens of Sondria. The whole truth and nothing but. -A |
