We Sidhae aren't very big on television. It's used mostly for news broadcasts and propaganda... While every true Sidh knows that life in the Imperium is great, serving the glorious Empress is our duty, and that Sidh way will prevail, most of us don't feel we need to be reminded of these good and self-evident thing so often, so we prefer to do something more useful than watch TV in our free time. Read a book, go to gym or socialize with friends in a bar, maybe...

Those of us living within transmission range of the Federation border still seem to have taken a liking of some of the human shows on air. The "Tournament of Justice", a gladiatorial combat show, seems to be a hit. Conversely, "Kitty Nina", a show meant for children, is also oddly popular with Sidh viewers - in an exceptionally rare case, the humans who make shows for children seem to have managed to put together artistic quality and meaningful content that is relevant to adult viewers as well.

Television programming in Toishima is all privately owned, with only one channel, the Emergency Broadcast Channel, owned by the government. That is not to say the other channels do not do emergency broadcasts; every channel is obligated to do so in times of disaster.

There are six television providers in Toishima. THK, 遠い島放送協会, is the only public television provider and provides five channels. Two are in Japanese, two are in English and one is for the deaf, displaying sign language and subtitles with no external sound at all. The other five television providers are all commercial networks, and are TV Kagoshima, Nara Television, Kagoshima Broadcasting System, Southern Toishima TV and Hotado Regional Broadcasting.

The only control the government exerts over the television providers is the mandatory screening of "Good Morning Toishima!" every day, across all channels.

None of the Home Island television providers can be reached in the Colonial Provinces, who get their daily fix by internet broadcast instead.

There are to many rating systems out there to judge what is or is not popular, however, so we can not give you a list.

Locally, the most popular shows are:

1: Space Quest - Sci-fi, action, lots of alien slave girls. Currently in it's 6th season, with a spin-off in production.

2: Bigtopians Say The Darnedest Things. - The most racially insensitive sitcom ever made. Currently in it's 2nd season.

3: Crime Scene: Atlantia - A police investigation drama. 4th season, a spin-off of the successful Crime Scene: Scene of the Crime series.

4: The Legacy of Klendathu - Modern conspiracy drama about aliens having placed sleeper agents among us. Concluding the first season.

5: Ungrateful Bitches - Drama about married women who are unhappy with their lives, and look for excitement in the arms of younger men. High turnover rate on actresses, since their characters' traitorous ways tend to get them kicked out by their husbands who end up trading up for younger prettier girls. One of the longest running dramas, now in it's 16th season.

6: Late-Night! hosted by Spiro Spindleshanks - Late night talk show, with topical comedy, and celebrity interviews. Has been on the air for 24 seasons.

7: For The Crest - An Imperial era drama highlighting 7 generations of a family's devoted service to the Emperor. The time periods flash back and forth revealing unusual plot twists. Currently in season 4. Based on one of the greatest works of playwright Vincent McCalister, who was a master at writing tragedies, taking place during the imperial era when he lived. One of his descendants has adapted one of his darker plays, The Crest of Mithrala, into this television drama. The program expands on the original play which showed only 2 generations of the family. While the original manuscripts contained more details that he planned on using for other plays, he died of tuberculosis before he could complete them. His decendant Markus McCalister adapted his notes to expand the story and tell of all 7 generations that were touched in the story arc.

Our networks have been trying to get the rights to produce an adaptation or air a foreign program, "Nigga Stole My Bike". Sources say it's a fan favorite on p2p sharing sites.
