Amivercci Loses Scout, 2nd Crash in 3 Decades
ORION ARM - Amivercci, an Expeditionary Fleet Gugy'kai-class vessel tasked with exploring certain central regions of the Orion Arm, reported that this morning, one of their Scout Disks was lost over an indigenous-inhabited continent on the third planet in the Sol System. The planet, known colloquially in the EF as Lolde'u, a translation of the local's own name for the world, had not yet been officially contacted by the Ivory Record in accordance with the Convention on First Contact, which prohibits first contact in "virgin" populations of pre-awareness species.
Amivercci's position has so far prevented them from confirming the fate of the vessel's crew. Mission Specialist Aedis Gibralter and Xenobiologist Dr. Johann Cap are experienced veterans of atmospheric flight over Lolde'u, having flown a total of 254 reconnaissance sorties over the majority-ocean planet. The Expeditionary Fleet stresses that accidents of this type are highly survivable, though one official, speaking on a condition of anonymity, explained that Amivercci had recorded readings indicitave of a high-yield, high-atmosphere nuclear event in the general area that the scout vessel was scheduled to be operating in.
The last time a vessel crashed was 30 years ago, also on Lolde'u, which has come to be known as the Cursed Planet, which has claimed a total of 83 scout craft and one gugy'kai-class in 89 years of exploration.
UPDATE: Amivercci's Crew Leader reports that contact has been made with the crash's sole survivor, Mission Specialist Aedis Gibralter, who is scheduled to be recovered in three days by airlift.
