Port Charlotte Falls!

On February 21 of 1945, The Empire of Port Charlotte had ceased to exist. Port Charlotte's demise came about after it's involvement in a major international and regional war between it and the Luxan Empire, primarily between the nations of Intonisia and Emexican. During Port Charlotte's involvement in that war, they launched several nuclear strikes on the region, killing tens of millions as a result. The region's leading nation, Primordial Luxa, gathered several other nations and formed a coalition hell-bent on getting revenge against Port Charlotte.

The initial invasion began with an orbital bombardment by the Luxans on Port Charlotte's main island with 32 kinetic rods from an orbiting weapons platform, which caused critical damage to Port Charlotte's infrastructure and destroying several major military bases. Luckily, the Port Charlotte military had been aware of the impending attack and moved most of it's forces out of major military bases and into the countryside before the strike.

Following the bombardment Luxan Invasion force, compromising armed forces of half a dozen nations launched an attack on Port Charlotte's Main island, engaging in a fierce naval battle against Port's Charlotte's own navy, and culminating in a final nuclear salvo from Port Charlotte of 312 nuclear missiles. The battle resulted in the destruction of two Port Charlotte fleets(most notably it's famous 9th fleet), the destruction of half the initial Luxan Invasion force, hundreds of thousand of casualties on both sides, and the initial invasion to stall as the Luxan invaders retreated. Some of the invading nations bowed out at that point, preferring to bring their remaining assets home and avoid the possibility of total destruction, while reinforcements arrived from other nations, and the remaining Luxan invasion fleets regrouped.

After several days, The luxan invasion force launched a second attempt at invading Port Charlotte's main island, this time meeting with much more success as Port Charlotte's navy was still reeling from the previous battle. The Luxans launched a "shock and awe" air campaign against Port Charlotte's capital city, Coffeyopolis, bombing government and key logistical buildings within the capital to the effect of wiping out most of Port Charlotte's main government body. Simultaneously an amphibious invasion was launched against the city of North Port, the major industrial center on the main Island, and eventually captured the city after a fierce land battle resulting in the deaths of an estimated 17000 Port Charlotte soldiers and civilians, while the casualty figures for the invading luxan forces were estimated at being around 3000.

Also worth noting during the amphibious invasion and air campaign, were two separate but related events involving more nuclear weapons that caused major damage to Port Charlotte. In one incident The Port Charlotte military set off one of it's few remaining nuclear weapons, a 50 MT Tsar bomb, in one of it's major naval bases to deny the invading luxans access to the coastal facility and it's docks. In the other incident, the United States of Devonta, one of the invading powers, attacked the only suspension bridge connecting Port Charlotte's main island with neighboring client state, the republic of R0man, with a 1.2 MT ICBM. The bridge was annihilated in the attack, and fallout caused by both nuclear strikes on the islands resulted in many more deaths from radioactive fallout.

Following the occupation of North Port by the luxans and the near total destruction of Port Charlotte government, word of a surrender came from Coffeyopolis as the luxans were preparing to march inland. The few remaining government officials from the Port Charlotte Empire met with Luxan representatives on a luxan naval vessel, and a peace treaty was signed.

The Empire of Port Charlotte is now disbanded. A new government is being organized, and a new capital will be determined in the near future. The new nation will be named Roman-Charlotte, a name stemming from the unification of governments from both islands. The new interim government will have the gargantuan task of providing compensation to the Luxan powers that be for costs of rebuilding damage done to the invading powers, along with rebuilding it's own infrastructure, and paying for costs of war for all nations involved in the conflict. The eastern island will fall under combined occupation of the invaders for the next quarter of the century, before joining the western island, now to be governed by the Black Dragon Empire, as a full province under the administration of the BDE. The city of North Port will be used as a permanent military base for the Luxan Empire.

The future of the defunct Port Charlotte Empire is uncertain, but what is certain is that this was a major conflict which saw the death of many innocent people and the demise of an empire.

Description of the Kingdoms Pt. 1

Postby Primordial Luxa » Mon Apr 29, 2013 7:52 pm

-----Overview-----

Image is everything in the kingdom of Reala and the nature of reality is constantly in flux and insubstantial due to the constantly changing meta-landscape of perception versus actuality. Reala is a kingdom devoted to vibrantly horrific entertainment and pleasure, the people of this kingdom see everything as merely a new form of sensation and their entire lives revolve around striving to gain new and more vibrant experiences. Society in Reala is fueled and dominated by fluctuating cults of personality that use various forms of media to spread their agendas and gain power. Everyone from the lowliest beggar to the Dukes and Barons rely on their abilities to control public opinion and to garner favor from the masses, who in turn seek their own type of favor. Business in the Kingdom is similarly symbiotic with the media and much of the nation’s industries are based around creating entertainment merchandise to sustain it or creating lesser sensations out of its by-products. Narcotics and farming are also common due to a large amount of fertile land nearby the major cities. The environment of Reala, for the most part, is incredibly arid. The coastal areas and very far inland are vibrant tropical while much of the center and eastern areas are sprawling inhospitable

Hedonism has grown and spread throughout the Kingdom of Reala like a creeping plague and nearly all of their actions and lifestyles. Their entertainment industry most effectively represents this as it caters to and feeds the cancerous growth of narcissism that eats away at some many of the citizens and fuels their daily lives. Much of the citizenry are actual very sad and depressing people who have grown bored with life however the whole society works as a collective to avoid mass suicide by creation an eternity of simulacrum pleasures and hollow sensation. While many of them are very conscious of this aspect of their lives they choose to ignore it for the most part lest depression take root. Instead, they enjoy lavishly decorating their surroundings in obscene and grotesquely surreal artwork, jewels of massive size coupled with gold plates carved with prehistoric images or gory viscous remains and twitching human bodies. In their free times, they take baths in mind numbing substances which sent their nerves on fire, others enjoy watching the torture and pain of other lesser species or criminals whose agony feeds their pleasure. Art under these conditions has taken on an insidious hue as well, TV shows cover a range of things from non-stop horror reality TV to religious depictions of the prophet’s words and works.

Reala enjoys a wide berth of different types of environments. Reala, for the most part, is incredibly arid with vast stretches of open areas with little or weak vegetation. The coastal areas and very far inland are vibrant tropical while much of the center and eastern areas are sprawling inhospitable deserts. Much of these deserts are intensely radioactive due to fighting that occurred during the Second World War. and those areas that aren’t are normal chemically scarred. Most people live on the coast due to this but regardless most cites have some kind of rad-shielding or protection against the very common chemical storms and fire spouts.

-----Overview-----

Draped in mists and fog, Seeth is home to artists and fishermen, sailors and dreamers. Here dreams and reality mingle to an unsettling degree. Some find solace in such dreams; others find only terror and death. It is nearly impossible in Seeth to fall asleep and avoid suffering the most lucid and fantastic dreams imaginable which makes it a placed filled to the brim with creativity and innovation as well as a deep respect for the night and sleep. Seeth is also home to the incredibly damp and wet climate which has made the majority of the Kingdoms inhabitants appear inured to the endless rain, and they work beneath it without comment, as oblivious to the constant drenching as the stone walls. This rain may take the form of torrential showers which can degrade rocks or constant mists which penetrate into every crevice. Sometimes large fog banks envelop the city and shroud it in impenetrable mist while during the winter cycles of ice and snow can create incredibly dangerous conditions.

Unlike many other kingdoms, Seeth allows its environment to live and die by its own merits without any help or hindrance on their part. Because of this, the forests in Seeth are massive and expensive things that are as imposing and dangerous as any of the super predators that dwell within them. These tropical paradises consist mainly of long-lived trees that survive well in the pacific climate, and large lakes created by massive unfiltered rainfall. These forested used to be dotted with cities but most were abandoned in favor of the larger coastal cities and now have been disintegrated by the elements. The society of Seeth is based on a very brutal and intense form of social Darwinism that advocates people constantly fighting and competing for better life’s and causes them to see everything as a struggle for survival. Because of this the people of Seeth are incredibly individualistic and have a very high respect for the natural order of things. They see themselves as people living according to natural laws of survival and that people who die or fail in life have no one to blame but themselves.

Occasionally nightmarish phantasms resonate deeply across Seeth, causing citizens to tear their own flesh apart or to slide into total catatonia for a time. The violent responses are immediately celebrated and soon the majority of the community is swept up in the brawling. Though occasionally there are fatalities, most only come out with textured scars, vivid memories of blood streaming from open wounds, and memorable cracks of breaking bones. Soon after, the experienced Flesh Shapers of Cthulhu and their trainees tend to those still living in unique manners, and there is a large feast filled with intoxicating libations and hallucinogenic derivatives of specially cultivated fungi. Cloying scents of spices and incense fill the air, and the constant fevered thrumming of drums allows all to indulge all of their senses fully. At the center of the revelry lie those rendered catatonic by the initial symphony of pain. Surrounded by the rest of the enclave, the non-responsive are physically coaxed back to the realm of feeling through sensuous caresses and delicate breaths.

-----Overview-----

The economy of Thrylos is structured heavily around agriculture and technology in equal measure and most cities and villages fall under the classification of insular single-minded groups of old wizards or hermetic degenerates families that tend large tracks of land. This is partial because of the lack of natural resources in many areas which forces people to gather around lakes and habitable forests when they can. In terms of farming mostly cattle, corn, wheat, and grains are produced in Thrylos but certain areas with better climates can produce different crops. Meanwhile, the industrial villages are known to specialize in many of the things Luxa typically does including medicine and armaments.

Some area’s like the “Valley of Eyes” specializes in some of the most advanced optical technology in the world while the Royal Atomic Plant is the size of a small town and provides power to nearly the entire kingdom. As well Thrylos is filled with places of legendary importance and mystery. Such as the Wall of Furious Masks, the Ubo-bhat Well, Melllorug the Cave of the Chalice, or a Phu-gulag Prison. These places are usually filled with rumors of treasure beyond mankind’s wildest, revelations about mankind’s true nightmarish place in the universe and painful eldritch death from sources that are never fully understood. Other features that add to Thrylos’s legendary feel are its wildlife which consists of a myriad of strange creatures which don’t appear anywhere else. Among these are the meditating Mib-hags who are dangerous if disturbed from their alien contemplation and the massive subterranean Ggotino-dhug whose bodies constantly turn inside out. Others include the Dogs of Recrimination who stalk the guilty like vultures following the dying and occasion the very real and luckily rare Vraal claimed by many the most dangerous animal on earth.

Uniquely this Kingdom is known for having dozens of structures stilling standing from primeval earth and prehuman civilizations. These include Atlantean outposts which the government has converted into military complex’s, Hyperborea pyramids used to lock away knowledge which that insidious race stole from mankind to protect its future and the occasion cyclopean citadel constructed from obsidian and basalt. Most of these areas are hotly contested area’s which the Order of the Old Ones, individual cults, the government and the people living in them fight over the rights to.

Thrylos features a semi-arid to arid climate. Much of the Kingdom is an arid desert climate, but higher elevations in the mountains in each state feature alpine climates with very large amounts of snow. There is a variety of wildlife in the area that includes large mountain predators and various rodents and small mammals, however, insects and reptiles are the most common creatures in the area. The area is home to several natural parks and state-owned land which are mostly large expanses of desert or medium sized mountains. The ethnicity in this area is incredibly diverse compared to the rest of the Luxan Empire with nearly 20% of the population coming from south of the Luxan border and several large communities of K’n-yanians.

-----Overview-----

The culture of Natlus is radically more diverse then any other part of the Luxan Empire but this aspect doesn’t affect the actual ethnicity of its citizens nearly as much as it does the architecture, way of life, and styles of this kingdom. The popular is only 60% Caucasian compared to the 75% average of the entire Luxan Empire but many people would not assume this upon first glance. This is because many of the cities in Natlus style their buildings after the foreign trapping of other locations so that domed Middle Eastern house stand next to the curious flat-topped structures that resembled ancient Egyptian architecture. The thatched walls and roofs of japan are combined with the external walls of the segmented by pilasters India temples and plazas are decorated with fountains, and statues the queerly mix ancient Greek pillars with the structurally redundant designs of the Slavic areas.

However this strange multiculturalism goes farther down than mere buildings and it can be seen in the daily lives of most individuals. People switch between wearing’s turbans and fedora with the swiftest of ease and it is hard to guess where the next person will greet you with a bow, a handshake or an even stranger gesture. The sound of classical Luxan ambiance screams through windows just as frequently as does the piping of an Arabian flute or the monotonous notes of a well-practiced tribal drum. Food is as chaotic and multifaceted as one would image with a million different styles of every kind of dish prepared from all across the world. To a casual onlooker, this sort of randomness and alternating styles can be overwhelming if not a little bit disorienting but most agree that there is a seamless quality to much of Natlus that avoids any ugly sorts of clashes in aesthetics.

While at first much of this strangeness appears radically foreign and many may question why Natlus is a Luxan Kingdom and not an Asiatic province or a Middle Eastern protectorate the reason for this comes quickly obvious among closer inspection. The people of Natlus are some of the most nationalistic and patriotic in the country and they will be some of the first among Luxans to champion the Empires superiority. But it also has to do with the fact that little of the ethnic glare present in Natlus is truly genuine, moreover, most of it is merely upgraded versions of common Luxan items. For example, Persian rugs are marked with old Luxan symbols rather than Persian one, the weaved baskets are created from the white trees only native to Luxa, and the Romanesque statues never depict hades or Zeus but loathsome Cthulhu.

Natlus is a place where regional classification becomes problematic with differences in soils, topography, geology, rainfall, and plant and animal communities from one end to the other. It is home to the high snowcapped peaks of Mt. Vay which is covered in strange Asian shrines as well as the incredible lush vegetation of swamps towards the south east where grottos of native central American temples squat. Most other areas are fairly temperate with sprawling fields of grass but there do exist a sizeable number of arid deserts where very little grows and sprawling vistas of bleached sand surrounded isolated towns and cities.

-----Overview-----

The geography of Suirmontis is incredibly arid and inhospitable. Much of the central and western area are covered in ashen sand wastes where the hot sun shines through the cloudless sky casting an insidious haze across the land. These wastes are filled with only the occasional oasis of greenery covered land to separate the mostly flat center, crater covered northwest and mountain covered south west. These oasis’s are typically medium in size and don’t cover more than an ache or two, they typically result from an unnatural mineral or water deposit underneath them which allows life to bloom under otherwise uninhabitable circumstances. The wildlife in these parts is vicious and has a habit of taking advantage of anything they find in order to stay alive and many have comment on the tenacity with which these creatures hunt.

However, juxtaposing these spots of life and happiness are the mirror imaged blighted places of Suirmontis collectively known as The Black Hovels. Unlike the near uniform and few in number Oases the Black Hovels are both numerous and varied. Some of them are vast decaying patches of greyish ash which seems to be composed of rotting radioactive material nearby, these areas have a strange luminosity to them and those who see them glowing at night are forever scarred by something terrible which only a lack of light reveals. Other Hovels are open pits that radiant heat and electromagnetic force the likes of which few volcanos can, they occasionally blot out the sun with belching clouds of noxious smog and electronic devices cease working close by. Some of these are large outcroppings of crystal and metal which seemed to grow and live like obscene coral formations and while they are beautiful they possess an entropic effect that can leech a man’s vitality. Acid lakes which can melt the skin off nearby humans and tarnish even strong metals are easily avoided by the wary and the nests of bat winged monstrosities are only really dangerous at night. Of course these are but a few of the dangers covering Suirmontis and it would take a long book to list them all.

Due to their dangerous environment the people of Suirmontis are naturally guarded in their interactions and lifestyles. They are blessed with an enhanced knowledge of what the apocalyptic end of mankind might look like and their fatalistic mentality is more strongly rooted in their surroundings than their dreams. Because of this Suirmontis’s citizens are among the most fortified, self-sustaining and well-armed in the Luxan Empire. What few major cities that exist are lousy with underground safety bunkers that create a set of underground catacombs for their denizens to lurk in. While the recluse isolated houses or lone hermits are stockpiled with fire arms and the cult complex’s that dot the area have the insidious appearance of a military fortress.

-----Core Universes-----

-----Overview-----

-----Overview-----

This is the second discovered alternate universe discovered by the Luxan Empire, in this Universe, the Luxan Empire was originally founded as the United States of America by a group of protestant fleeing persecution in England. This Universe was discovered shortly after Primum Luxan by looking for universes that shared a similar location of fundamentalism and by looking along the eldritch fire space-time of the Dragon. The United States of American in this Universe made a powerful country of democracy and freedom in North America and grew into a world hegemon over the course of several decades. That was until in 1939 when this universe’s version of Vulgtm Gnaiih Slago'htgh appeared in his true form off the coast of Boston and began waging an extermination and genocide campaign against the entire world.

The Immortal Dreadlord quickly destroyed much of Boston which his emergence birth cry which created a 500 kiloton explosive and only minutes afterward much of the region went violently mad as his mental bloat rolled over their sanities. Merely days later an army of ichthyic Deep Ones and inhuman things from the bowels of the sea so loathsome that they actually polluted and corrupted the entire planet's environment as undersea viruses and chemicals ravaged the lands. These armies were filled with powerful creatures and indiscernible technology which was quickly described as magic which allowed them to sink large tracks of the US navy within the span of a week and by the end of the month they American military had totally lost control of the seas.

As this occurred many millions went insane as the Dreadlord’s psychic might battered the minds of anyone close enough to the force of a million traumatizing experiences, he walked inland to New York City, Portland, Providence and Albany wiping out minds and turning normal people into savages with his mere presence. Along with this, he works foul sorcery that caused horribly malign metaphysical imbalances in the nature of the universe. Some side effects of this are that the sky is now totally black instead of blue and the star gleam constantly regardless of the position of the sun which has taken on an odd color and less spherical shape. Reports of strange creatures across the world have surged and every country now seems home to some new urban myth which is draining the life force from its population.

For nearly a decade he ravaged the entirety of North American continent through war and his powerful abilities. He flooded nearly every coastal city filling New York with water and horribly sea creatures that turned the Hudson red, earthquakes rocked the mid-west and thousands of mile sized holes now riddle its surface. All throughout his assault the powers he unleashed causes irreparable harm to the human gene pool which is now riddled with deformities and the metal illness rates have risen almost by a hundred thousand percent.

To their credit, the United States of America tried to fight him off with a legion of nuclear weapons and soldiers but after over two thousand confirmed kills he simply appears to reform from absolute destruction within minutes. However even with all his armies and powers it took him many years and unfortunate resources in order to conquer the North American continent which he rules through a group of human mediums.

These mediums have founded the semi-official Luxan Empire as a way to control and manage the remaining human populace for their master. This world is a much more chaotic and primal one where humans are used as resources for The First Watcher and his various allies. A few humans have managed to gain relative power through magic and science but being a Luxan in this world is a much bleaker role than other ones.

-----Overview-----

This is the third alternate universe discovered by the Luxan Empire. This one is an apocalyptic scenario where on March 23, 1925, the city of R’yleh rose and stayed above the surface for several months killing almost two billion people. Later on in 1926, the Stars came right and Cthulhu exited the corpse city killing an addition four billion people with his psychic might alone. Over the next five decades, Cthulhu and the other Great Old Ones are responsible for the deaths of the rest of the human race except for 13 humans who through luck managed to survive. These remaining people founded the Luxan Empire of this universe once the Great Old Ones left earth and they use the leftover magic and technology of the Ancient Ones to advance to rebuilding large chunks of earth. This universe only contains a few thousand Luxans but they are considered more advanced or more informed than most of Luxan citizens.

The thirteen survivors consist of Daniel the Stash, Corsi the Fungus, Eldin the Quanta, Abner the Skin, Ramsey the Shaper, Key the All-Seeing, Robert the Synthetic Giant, Astor the Storm, Exior the Fractal, Gilles the Head, Lucia the Experiment, Alyssa the Key Bearer and Phobe the Render. All of these transcendent Luxans have powers and knowledge which dwarf that of entire planets and they act in ways almost as inhuman as the gods themselves.

Daniel has linked herself concretely with the mortal instinctual need to worship and certificate through adopting the powers written in strange forbidden texts. This allows her to instantly become the object of veneration for any and all sentient mortal creatures whom she desires. Men fall to their knees screaming her praise until their vocal cords tear and armies have fallen into bone breaking religious ecstasy before her visage. She has influenced the children of her brothers and sister to help rebuild their world and the offspring of the survivors are driven by her powers to feats impossible for most humans.

Corsi has devoured, or perhaps been devoured by, the Fungi from Yuggoth and now she is a giant humanoid mushroom whose mere presence is enough to cover hundreds of nearby arches in mushrooms and other mycological growths. She is a walking terraforming goddess who has turned earth from an acid wasteland into massive continent-sized forests of mushrooms. In addition, she had found a way to take complete advantage of the massive nervous systems she creates and can uplink with her fungus like a computer network giving her the processing power of a supercomputer the size of the sun.

Eldin was imprisoned in the Elder City where he was enveloped by scanning tunneling microscopes wired into his visual cortex and forced to meditate upon his own atomic structure until he could perceive the quantum foam of every particle of his being birthing and annihilating under the uncertainty principle. As such he was reached a sort of molecular nirvana and can warp matter at the sub-atomic level with the smallest thought. He has helped fix all the structural changes to the earth sealing dimensional faults and preventing the heat death and entropy that was about to consume the earth.

Abner has discovered one of the Crawling Chaos masks, a simple thing of unidentifiable material and design but which allows him to transform into the Skinless One master of flesh and skin. He is the most distant and impossible to understand of the survivors and he frequently acts in ways that defy all logic or sanity such as creating entire cities out of the corpses that litter the earth. His power seems even more limitless than many of his allies for he has shown an ability to even control the skin of several elder gods.

Ramsey has been infected with a protoplasmic substance from beneath the waves which he is constantly excreting from his skin and which is linked to his rapidly evolving physiology. As such much of his surroundings is made up of his own body and with a though he can construct anything he can imagine out of his surroundings with little to no effort. He can craft nuclear power plants in minutes and particle cannons from thin air. He is the ultimate expression of creation.

Key has crafted from his madness a pair of goggles which take advantage of the obscene science of the Great Race and allows him to “see” time. He is very vague about the entire subject but from what can be gather he can view every possible branching timeline of his universe. He can perceive time unlike humans who merely move through it and he knows exactly how every action and reaction will affect reality.

Robert is perhaps the most tragic amongst these individuals for he lacks the vast majority of his human form in a way much more dissociative than the other. He exists as a simple Mi-go brain canister which has been surgically fixed inside of a massive four-meter tall robot which looks like an alien had tried clumsily to create a humanoid form. It is just inhumane enough to be unnerving but armored with enough plating and fire power to kill entire armies and whether massive amounts of destructive energy.

Astor survived by hiding in one of the Russian nuclear bases, and though some unknown experimentation or discovery his entire body is little more than a collection of inhuman guns, blades, and armored plates. These machines work together around his split intelligence like a hive mind made entirely out of killing implements fashioned by the strongest races in the galaxy and on more than one occasion Astor has descended on a bolt of lightning to crack continents in half with his blades and bullets.

Exior’s form is composed of thousands of small shards each no larger than a silver dollar and jet black in color, these shards as each composed of pure dark matter and grant him a host of strange effects which curse nearby machines and brain waves. His mind is tucked away behind layers of dimensionally folded space and his entire being is the definition of endurable.

Gilles has survived for nearly thirty decades in the alien war zones by killing his own kind and is one of the last human warlords to from his planet. A general as good as they come he has existed far past the effects of his irradiated plant by mounting his head on a nuclear-powered robot and giving it life via strange magical rites handed down from Salem. Now he helps lead the other survivors and their worshipers by directing their forces and coordinating with the greater Luxan Empire.

Lucia is a barely human cyborg fitted with trillions of dollars’ worth of technology all miniaturized and installed into nearly every part of her body. She could pop eyeballs with the pressure of her snapping and possess the endurance to withstand several nuclear attacks. She and the millions like her were created to fight the first waves of awaking great old ones but luckily she ran and hid while her brothers and sister went on to be slaughtered in a matter of days.

Alyssa spent her childhood in digging around in the foul guts of monsters that drove most of humanity mad with their very presence and has created an intricate set of keys out of the bones and organs of these foul creatures. These keys grant her a host of power, the ability to unlock a person’s head, the power to unlock their soul, to travel from any door to another and much more. She is the informant of the survivors whose host of abilities allows her to travel from one edge of the universe to the other without trouble.

Finally, there is Phobe. She has an unfortunate lot of being infected or more actually possessed by a strangely colored alien radiation or parasite. Whatever it truly is it causes her to emit a powerful electromagnetic canceling wave which allowed her to disassociate atomic bonds in her proximate space. In essence, she rending’s things into a pile of loose particles just by being near them and absorbs the energy into her being. She is a pure force of destruction and therefore is forced to be isolated even from her fellow thirteen.

-----Overview-----

In 2011 - two hundred years ago - the Stars Were Right. R’lyeh arose, and the most psychic 20% of mankind either went mad from fear or went gleefully psychotic. The seas rose and billions of Deep Ones flooded ashore. Unimaginable things emerged from beneath the ground, and darkness fell upon the Earth.

Nuclear weapons could at most annoy Great Cthulhu himself and destroy some of his stuff, but a sufficient number of them could, in theory, wipe out most of humanity and deprive him of subjects, as well as doing a serious number on his oceanic minions. A rump US and Russia managed to negotiate a tenuous armistice with each other on the basis of “you don’t eat our brains, we don’t blow up the world to spite you.”

Two centuries passed. The continent underlying R’lyeh rose further, and the seas penetrated deeper inland. The spawn of the Great Old Ones multiplied and built monstrous cities across the face of the earth. The wild shoggoths of the sub-Antarctic were taught obedience with a little trouble. Some disputes with distantly related horrors deep within the earth were resolved with the death of only a few tens of millions of humans, mostly from famine, although some through submersion in hot magma.

Now, the world is mostly ruled by the heirs of the Cthulhu Cult and opportunistic evil bastards and mages, an all-powerful priesthood whose rule as “shepherds” of the human flock includes slaughterhouse delivery and whose rule is backed by divine retribution far more swift and sure than any previous variety. Mass human sacrifice is the norm, although the details of how the various human states are ruled are of no great concern to Cthulhu and the other Great Old Ones which are his “family” and friends. Bloodlust, violence, and weird sex are the social norms: close influence of the Great Old Ones may lead to power, but it leads to madness or monsterism in the long run, and as for those too psychically insensitive or strong to be driven mad by the general psychic background, they are reduced to a state of foggy placidity by various foul magics.

Technology is an odd mix, mass slave labor and 20th century hardware, cities more monumental than New York but no computers, the occasional odd bit of unearthly super-science and the use of weird forces best called “magic.” The Great Old Ones prefer their subjects and soul-munchies ignorant: research, scientific or otherwise, is not encouraged.

The star-spawn and associated horrors – Cthulhuoids (like the big C, but smaller: think classic King Kong vs. Godzilla), shoggoths, night-gaunts, zombies and litches, Hounds of Tindalos and Deep Ones large and small, Colossal Worms, worm-men etc. – inhabit and build the monster cities of dubious geometry that disfigure the face of the Earth. What everyday life (or undeath) is like in these cities is unknown – like a roach motel unto Blattidae, humans check in but do not check out. There is often but not always a full Great Old One in residence in the central temple complex; Cthulhu generally stays in R’lyeh, although he occasionally visits his human subjects for a little Al Fresco dining and to remind his human subjects Who’s the God?

The huge polygonal region surrounded by 2000-foot walls remains wrapped in impenetrable darkness, while the Atlantic Vortex is quite visible but equally unexplainable: and these are only two of seven equally vast and obscure projects the Great Old Ones and their servants have created in the last few decades.

These developments worry the Democratic Human Republic of America, which has made determination of their nature a top priority. After a long period of instability and various withdrawals in the face of irresistible pressure, the Democratic Human Republic of America has managed to achieve some stability: there hasn’t been a pro-Cthulhu revolt above pants-bomber levels of competence in decades. Given existential despair at the continued non-appearance of Jesus & Co., and the frequency with which the religious-minded were befooled by the Great Old Ones, the theocratic rule of the Republic’s early decades failed to sustain itself, and has been replaced by a ruthless scientific atheism as the creed of the Republic. Although the Government’s refusal to call a spade a spade or Black Magic Black Magic is perhaps a weakness, the insistence on the non-demonic nature of the Great Old Ones and the eventual scientific explicability of all their mysterious powers is something of a spine-bracer.

Powered by fusion reactors, bristling with atomic weapons, and recycling every scrap (there’s not exactly much trade with the rest of the world, although a lot of smuggling), the Republic is more democratic than it used to be, but is still a fearfully regimented society, in which any deviation from the Rules for survival is punished ruthlessly. Psychic sensitivity is tested from infancy, and all “susceptibles” are required to wear protective head-gear (aluminum-foil lined and marked with certain ancient symbols) whenever outside. (All buildings are heavily psychically shielded as a matter of course). Constant closed circuit monitoring for signs of Alien Influence is an accepted norm, as are physical and blood tests for signs of Monsterism.

There has been a return to space, although made risky by the fact that most of the Great Old Ones and many of their minions can move through space with little difficulty (How Not to be Seen is an important part of space science: low-flying spy satellites in particular tend to cease working rather abruptly, especially when passing over R’lyeh).

The Republic is not entirely alone in a world of Cthlhu-worshippers: radio communications remain open with the New Russian Empire. Other forms of communication are trickier: it takes a brave and highly skilled individual to travel undercover through the slave nations, boats and subs are too easily noticed by the Deep Ones, and planes are also rather visible (and taking a detour through other dimensions always carries severe risk of attracting unwanted attention). Besides communications difficulties, relations with the Empire are inherently a bit shaky, given its far more open embrace of Black Magic and Abominations in their pursuit of survival. (There is considerable suspicion that the Fifth Putin, which has ruled for over fifty years, is no longer technically human).

There is also the Sultanate of Dust in the Arabian Desert: its inhabitants no longer look very human even on satellite photos, and they appear to have managed to remain independent through some sort of terrible pact with the even more powerful Outer Gods. (One of the more creatively decadent Saudi princes discovered that his multi-million dollar collection of blasphemous books and scrolls was actually useful while the world was coming to an end). Communications are understandably limited.

Other “free humans”, refugees from the Archonate, squat on the territory of the Mi-Go: the chance of being abducted and experimented on or even end up as a brain in a jar are probably higher than of becoming a snack or sacrifice back home, but at least the Mi-Go have no interest in governing humans or eating them, and as long as they stay away from the Mi-Go’s mining operations, they are free to pursue their primitive agricultural lifestyle unmolested. The Archons have complained to the Great Old Ones, but the Mi-Go do have a solid short-term (less than a million years) lease.

Other potential allies include the Chthonic Old Ones and the Outer Gods, but so far the Republic’s government has put them very solidly in the “Friends like These” category. There are also contacts with some discontented mages and dark creatures within the boundaries of Great Old One territory, who find that the Return of the Great Old Ones has not been nearly as cool or rewarding as promised or find being immortal and masters of life and death over millions does not make up for having the ultimate Boss From Hell. Special Intelligence has a new and very promising contact in New England, whom they just refer to as “the TOM…”

The Great Old Ones are not particularly concerned about the independent human states, although they are a bit miffed by the Outer Gods putting a tentacle in their pie. Two centuries are barely a blink of an eye to the immortal Old Ones: and in very little time (quite likely less, even, than another two centuries), certain plans will come to fruition, and the minor annoyances will end.

Luxan Customs

Postby Primordial Luxa » Mon Apr 29, 2013 7:53 pm

Overview: The Luxan Empire is a nation that prides itself on personal freedoms and this is best seen in the nation’s religious demographics. Luxa religious make up consists of over ten thousand recorded religions over 70% of which were founded by Luxan citizens.

Order of the Old Ones: The most prominent and wide spread of the religions in Luxan the OOO as it is commonly referred to as, is a conglomeration of several thousand smaller cults which have all come together to worship and single larger pantheon. Created by the Immortal Dreadlord, the Black Man and Abdul Alhazred during the Civil War the Order of the Old Ones is based off the Nihilistic and Cosmism teachings of H.P. Lovecraft, Abdul Alhazred, Eibon, and others. The Order is the official religion of Primordial Luxa however this gives them no special treatment by the government and there are merely classified as such because of the number of people in the nation that practice it.

The Order makes most of its money from the government who pays them to monitor and control the actions of the various gods roaming around Luxa, however they also make a profit working with various science groups helping to explore and study other areas such as space travel and quantum physics. Among the cults that make up the Order the most prominent are the cults of Cthulhu, Dagon, Shub-Niggurath, Azathoth, Yog-Sothoth, Nyarlathotep, and Yig. However lesser cults worship deities such as Abhoth, Atlach-Nacha, Bokrug, Chaugnar Faugn, Cthugha, Eihort, Ghatanothoa, Glaaki, Hastur, Ithaqua, Nyogtha, Quachil Uttaus, Rhan-Tegoth, Shudde M'ell, Tsathoggua, Y'Golonac, Yibb-Tstll, and Zhar.

Judea Christian: Judea Christianity is the most popular group of religions in the world however in Luxa it is a shunned and only makes up a small percent of the population. This is at its core the Luxan lifestyle is morally, ethically and logically opposed to the beliefs of Jews, Muslims and Christians making it ill-suited to these types of people. This has also made the Luxan Empire a target for several extremist groups which only severs to increase the tension and dislike between the cultures.

Eastern Religions: Buddhism, Taoism and Hinduism are also very popular faiths in the Homeland and they are represented well across the nation.

Miscellaneous faiths: Luxa is also home of various lesser cults and faiths that spring up all over the place for a variety of reasons. These typically include various flower children and astral cults in the same theme as Charles Manson Cult or the Heaven’s Gate’s group. They are seen as slight outliner by the majority of Luxans but are for the most part looked upon with interest rather than distain.

Atheism: While Atheism isn’t a religion it is important to mention it here as a vast majority of the Luxan population has chosen to identify as Atheist and it is one of the largest religious classification in the Homeland.

-----The Three Names-----

Luxans have several odd traditions and beliefs surrounding the names of humans that are deeply ingrained in their culture. Luxans believe that every person has three names; the name they are given, the name they take and their true name. The name a person is given is one that they are called by their parents or guardians and represents a point in their life where they were not strong or intelligent enough to choose their own title. Because of this a magician who knows a person’s given name can use it to exert a level of control over them allowing them to command them to do certain actions.

This name a person chooses is a name that more accurately represents a person and gives a wizard no power over them as it only has power to the owner. Almost every Luxan will adopt a Chosen Name by the time they are ten or thirteen and it is seen as a major point in a person’s life when they become a true individual. It is perfectly legal and normal for Luxans to go by their chosen name and to use it for all interactions. In fact it is preferred, those who go by their birth names are seen as vain or foolish enough to think themselves above control and manipulation. Luxans adopt this name in fear that others might use their given name against them and therefore many families or individuals go to great lengths to keep their names hidden. Chosen names typically have some important symbolism to a person and may be any word from any language. Some people adopt titles while other adopt concepts. Some choose alien words which carry great power and others choose cryptic symbols.

Finally a True Name is the name which is given to a person at their conception by cosmic forces and Outer Gods. This name is everything a person is, was or will be. It is an all-powerful word that can control every last thing about a person’s body, mind and soul. A true name is nearly impossible to discover without the direct help of an Outer God or Great Old One. Few people have been able to learn Trues Names and usually it is only at great unknowable costs but they are incredibly coveted. Some seek them to control others, while some want to use them to augment their powers.

-----Aklo-----

Aklo is a language of power which is considered by many to be the multiverses true language. It contain two character words and thousand syllabus phrases that describe ideas and concepts which cause human sanity to rupture. Although Aklo can be used for communication its primary usage is in incantations and prayers. Aklo is spoken by nearly every alien race and deity which gives further credence to its importance. The Aklo language and script was first used on earth by the Serpent Men some 1.5 million years ago, during the Pleistocene epoch. It is unlikely that this language was in everyday use. It may be that Aklo was a ritual language only used by the priestly castes in ceremonies. There is a possibility that the Serpent Men learnt the Aklo from the Old Children since those beings are known to respond to summons spoken in Aklo. To this day the Aklo language is still employed in certain spells and rituals. In addition Aklo is nearly impossible to read and speak as the human mind is too weak primitive to fully grasp all of its symbols and subtle nuisances. In addition the language has a telepathic component that makes it even harder for those of weak will to grasp. Although Aklo can be used for communication its primary usage is in incantations and prayers. Other important texts written in Aklo are the Aklo Unveilings are a collection of 48 revelations recorded by the Aklo. There is said to be a 49th Unveiling which mankind will only learn when Glaaki calls humanity to him. There is also the Aklo Formulii, a collection of incantations connected with the summoning, banishing and controlling of certain extra dimensional beings. The Third Aklo Formula can be used to make invisible and immaterial entities reveal their physical form.

-----Naacal-----

The Naacal language and its script were used by the early human inhabitants of the continent of Mu over 173,000 years ago. The letters are slightly similar in appearance to certain Mesoamerican language systems. Some scholars have suggested that occasional similarities between Naacal and Mayan script are not coincidental. The occultist Harley Warren was supposedly an expert in deciphering and reading Naacal script. The most notable examples are the Zanthu Tablets stored in the vaults of the Sanborne Institute for Pacific Studies and Captain Abner Exekiel Hoag's original palm leaf version of the Ponape Scripture. The Cabot Museum in Boston held a peculiar scroll which may be written in Naacal though it has vanished from the public eye after the 1932 scandal. The Unaussprechlichen Kulten contains a key to deciphering Nacaal script and a rudimentary dictionary of Naacal phrases. Colonel James Churchward planned to release a monograph on prehumen languages called the Nacaal Key but it is unknown if it was ever published. Harley Warren and Randolph Carter studied a book written in Nacaal that they received from India. This book revealed the location of an ancient tomb and a way to get to some evil legion of things beneath the tomb. Warren disappeared with the book underground and Carter lost all memory of the book and its contents. Naacal is also compared to R'lyehian by Carter while explaining his own later disappearance to Etienne-Laurent de Marigny, Ward Phillips and Ernest B. Aspinwall.

-----Ptetholite----

The Ptetholite language and its subsequent script are one of the few existing remnants left by the Ptetholite people: a prehumen race which antedated the Hyperboreans. Though little is known about the language itself, we do know that the script was sometimes used for writing curses and incantations.
Few traces of the Ptetholites or their language remain. Fragmentary examples of the script may remain in such Hyperborean records as the Liber Ivonis or the Testaments of Carnamagos. Earlier translations of the Cthäat Aquadingen contain a version of the Sixth Sathlattae written in Ptetholite script. The best preserved examples of the Ptetholite script can be found upon the Broken Columns of Geph situated on the cost of Liberia. Inscribed upon the columns is a long narrative recording the Ptetholite peoples magic and its use in there wars. However the complete message is undecipherable since a number of the columns have been defaced and some of their contents erased by the Mi-Go. An item known as the Phitmar Stone is said to bear three inscriptions; two in Old Kingdom Egyptian dialects and one of a selection of letters copied from the above mentioned columns. Whether the Egyptian sections are actual translations of the columns transcripts or merely descriptions is unknown.

-----Senzar-----

The Senzar language and its script were the language system used by the pre-human inhabitants of Atlantis. Senzar appears to have been written using a cuneiform-like lettering system. It is belived that a few of the Lamas of Tibet know of this language through their studies of certain obscure philosophical doctrines. The best known example of the Senzar language is the Book of Dyzan; a volume which supposedly contains the wisdom of the lost peoples of Atlantis. It was after first seeing this volume that Helena Petrovna Blavatsky founded the Theosophy Society. The Book of Eibon was also translated into Senzar by the sorcerer Klarkash-Ton. No copies of this translation are believed to have survived into the present day. Original examples of Senzar text may survived, preserved within the walls of the lost city of Kuturis. The exact location of this city is unknown though it is likely to be somewhere in the Sahara.

-----Tsath-Yo-----

Tsath-Yo is the name given to the script used by the ancient Hyperboreans. It may also be their name for the Hyperborean language itself. It is made up of angular characters. The -ath suffix seems fairly prominent in Hyperborean nouns. A Mr. Garson Casterwell of Boston produced a monograph on the translation of Tsath-Yo towards the end of the Twenties. Entitled The Kranorian Annals, Fact or Fallacy? Only 1100 copies were printed. Few original examples of Tsath-Yo have survived into the present day. Of those that did, the Book of Eibon is the most famous. St Azedarac of Ximes was rumored to have held an original Hyperborean copy of the book in his collection. While it's unlikely an original copy would exist in bound book form there is always the possibility Azedarac possessed a reproduction of an original copy. It is from Kranoira that we can gain many of our insights into the lives of the latter age Hyperboreans, so it is not surprising that several artefacts baring inscriptions in Tsath-Yo have also been unearthed there.

Luxan Technology

Postby Primordial Luxa » Mon Apr 29, 2013 7:54 pm

-----Personalized Weapons-----

Luxans love personalizing their weapons in a variety of ways that make their unique and lethal. Sometime this is simple engravings of how many worthy foes a gun as taken or fusing a sword with the hide of an alien creature from beyond the confides of sane logic and mundane reality. These cosmetic upgrades increase the beauty of such deadly creation but also their renown as there are certain armaments that are renown throughout the Luxan Empire not just for their fatality but also for their legendry appearance and history. Among these are the Rings of Cortex, The Forbidden Sword, the Nexus Rifle, the five Uncertainty Bows, and the whispered about Rt'shan Tunnel.

However others upgrade and design weapons which define all natural reason of modern weapon making and many of our laws of physics. It would be folly to try and name them all here but there are some basic classes which can be safely talked about with some level of understanding since they are pervasive. Particle weapons include swords covered in antimatter and strange tubal devices which exhale annihilating clouds of substance totally the opposite of the makeup of this universe, while the dangerous seismic shields which use strangle shapes to wield fault lines and geographical features as weapons.

Other prefer symbiotic armaments which bind themselves unwholesomely to their wielder isolating them both physically and mentally from their surroundings. Some weapons are dipped in ramshackled curses which make them slowly lethal to anyone who so much as breathes in the air around them causing horrible nightmares and deathly misfortune. It is common for some of these weapons to not even be composed of physical matter but rather the alien Arcanotech of words, thoughts and symbols which can tear the skeptical and believer apart without distinction.

-----Dimensional Transcendent Rounds-----

Drawing upon the technology of Alien Angles, Dimensionally transcendent rounds are widely considered the most efficient weapon in the Luxan Empire in terms of cost to destruction ratio. The basic concept behind these weapons is to take advantage of the space warping abilities of non-Euclidian geometry to increase the internal capacity of bullets to massive levels. When such ammunition makes contact with a target the sophisticated geometric structure is warped causing safe guards to revert the interior components to normal size making the interior spill out at its normal size. This allows even small caliber bullets to be filled with several metric tons of materials giving Luxan firearms a vast diversity of ability.

Because of their destructive potential dimensionally transcendent rounds are regulated like no other weapon in the Luxan Empire so that no citizen may one with a capacity larger than the gun it is being launched from a standard rigidly enforced. However a necessary one when a Glock round could be loaded with the same amount of explosive force as a Aries MBT, or when a single shot gun pellet could be filled with gallons of napalm.

The Luxan military typically takes advantage of this in numerous ways from loading .50 Cal rounds the destructive force of a naval barrage or replacing the interior of short range missiles with several kilotons of nuclear devices. Tanks can fill entire cities with noxious chemical weapons with only a single shot and your basic soldier’s bullet acts more like a grenade than a simple projectiles. Spies can load their jewelry with normally harmless pellets which have the ability to wipe out entire ball rooms with a single shot while scouts can launch hermetic surveillance equipment from one village to the next with a sniper rifle.

The majority of power in the Luxan Empire comes from Nuclear reactors and atomic power stations. The Luxan Homeland has nearly 500 nuclear reactors spread across its surface providing major power to most of its cities and infrastructure. The generation output of these plants typically ranges from about 1000 to 1600 megawatts of electric output per plant. The Luxan Empire enjoys this type of power for two main reasons. First Luxans see nuclear and atomic resources as holy relating them to the Demon Sultan and the All in One. Second is that Nuclear Power provides the most efficient for of power with the least amount of potential environmental damage compared to other forms of energy.

Next to nuclear power Luxa relies on many other types of power in smaller location or for specialized needs. This includes coal, natural gas, and fracking primarily in central Luxa while on the coasts hydro electrical power, off shore oil and geothermal mining are incredibly popular. An important fact to notice is that the Luxan Empire has little regard or concern for the environment and the state of the world. Their cultural nihilism and belief in a constantly present apocalypse means they have little concern about the world.

However many groups seem to pushing a new type of energy recently which has developed called rift energy. This power source relies on creating small holes in the fabric of the universe about a meter in diameter. The raw energy caused by these holes is enormous as they put off huge amounts of heat, gravitation and magnetic forces which can be converted using the proper devises into electricity. The most important part of these devices however is the fact that since the amount energy they create is much more than is needed to keep the rift open it is a form of self-sustainable energy. This form of energy has been criticized for being incredibly expensive to create in the first place and having the potential to create a black hole of eldritch incursion.

-----Carns-----

Carns are one of Luxas most prized creations however in recent years have become the topic of much controversy throughout the international community. Carns are a race of living genetic constructs, built using a mixture of Elder Thing genetics and Arcano-Tech in labs and factories rather than being born. Created using a complex compilation of bio synthetic chemicals and Nanotechnology, large amounts of these creatures can be manufactured in a relatively small span of time and even a lesser production facility can create over 10,000 of them within the span of a few months. However, most of the controversy stems from their purpose as menial labor for the Empire.

Carns have the appearance of deformed and debased pink skinned humanoids, possessing a squat form with a hunched and elongated back, with overly extended arms and milky white eyes they bear only a minor resemblance to humans. They commonly have deep scars and burns marking their flesh to better distinguish them from sapiens, while others fill their bodies with painful and distinguishing piercings. Carns do however possess a very similar internal structure to human beings with many of the traditional if not modified organs that we have. The Carn primarily runs on a grey paste like nutrient that helps their skin use photo syntheses to regulate their body while their bones and muscles are much more powerful they their frame would suggest.

The Carns brain is a simple organ that was built to be easily controlled and manipulated for work. Carns can understand human speech and commands but like domestic animals only simple and common tasks relying more on emotions and tone of voice for understanding. The Carns brain also has the ability to process specialized pheromones patterns into uncontrollable physical commands. This allows an overseer to have a Carn to work complex machinery in a repetitive fashion with only a clutch of spores, and default programming prevents disobedience with heart stopping pheromones.

-----Carnelian-----

Carnelians were created as a high end, aesthetically appealing alternative to regular disgusting Carns. While a Carn might be compared to a slave, a Carnelians is designed to a servant, an attractive and intelligent companion who can see to their masters every need. They’re intelligence was greatly expanded to the levels of primitive primates and their bodies are each uniquely designed based on the specifics of their host. Nearly all Carnelians are however lithe thin creatures with light bird like bones and poses a feminine figure like that of a dancer.

They were created by Messenger Mason a small-time geneticist who worked on building Carns for several years. She had used her experience to fabricate her own creation which she developed to cater to the interests of people who wanted a worker that they could consider attractive as well as useful.

Initially Carnelians were not a monetary success. They were almost a hundred times more expensive than a Carn and their roles could be fulfilled by a Luxan hired for much cheaper which made them an unattractive option. However, they became popular when trend setter Conan Herber stumbled upon them and purchased nearly a dozen to staff his house. He worked with the New Salem Times and explained how “Carnelians are not just secretaries and cooks. They are a status symbol. A sign that you are successful enough to build pleasing servants to fulfill your every need.” From then on Carnelians found their niche. They were the ultimate sign of wealth and rich Luxans flocked to purchase them allowing Mason to create her own company called Quarry.

Since then Quarry has become a household name and Carnelians are the envy of every social climber. The company has expanded and made numerous improvements reducing the cost of Carnelians granting more people access to them but they still remain very expensive and one can expect only the top 10% of Luxans to be see carrying Carnelians around on leashes.

Luxan Magic

Postby Primordial Luxa » Mon Apr 29, 2013 7:54 pm

One of the fastest ways to start a bar fight in Luxa and turn two friends into mortal enemies is to ask a group fo Luxans to define and explain Magic. Despite being a powerful tool used by every single Luxan in nearly every stage and aspect of life there is a serious amount of disagreement about the nature and origin of Magic.

The following are some of the more popular theories which some Luxans hold but by no means is this a compete list.

  • Magic is a hyper-scientific discipline of visualizing and manipulating trans-dimensional energy fields. Acoustic signals (words of power) and geometric matrices (sigils and gestures) act as control systems, which have transcended mere material technology. The energies bleed between universes through pinpoint wormholes, often dependent on specific patterns of stellar and cosmic radiation. “Summoning a monster” merely involves establishing such a wormhole to translate it from one place to another.
  • Only those who have successfully Dreamed can do magic – but this includes those who Cthulhu has touched or Awakened in his own slumbers.
  • Magic is simply another name for psionics. Summoning monsters is a matter of sending the correct telepathic message, Shrivelling is pyrokinesis, and the Elder Sign is a powerful post-hypnotic compulsion implanted on Cthulhu billions of years ago and involuntarily transmitted to his followers telepathically. Anything with a brain can train itself in psionic disciplines, though some species (and some specific beings) have far more potential than others.
  • When the Elder Things dominated the globe, all their technology was fundamentally biological. The crinoids controlled not just the shoggoths, but their stone buildings, their metal tools, their weapons and prisons and experimental power plants and everything with a vastly complex set of network and circuit protocols embedded in the very genes of their servants. The Elder Things maintained the control codes and distributed switching relays for the system in a specially designed plankton fog stored in the oceans. These relays transmitted signals and information using quantum dipole connections between certain molecules. When the shoggoths rebelled, the system crashed hard. Pieces of it rewrote themselves, gained partial sentience, went berserk, and programmed themselves to nest and reproduce. Some of them evolved into mammals, and then into humans. Magic, on Earth anyway, consists of “tapping into” the surviving shoggoth “circuit diagram,” which is in almost all terrene matter, not least in DNA, crystals and igneous rocks, and metal.
  • The above scenario is only one of the times that a similar disaster has happened. The first and worst was the crash of the Azathoth entity, which dropped whole universes into a mere three or four dimensions and left barely sentient subroutines mindlessly throwing off leaked power and short-circuits across billions of galaxies. Every so often an alien species learns enough about the local diagram to sloppily patch a kludge of loose wires and strange diodes into the system. Human contactees and drug addicts have documented some of these work-arounds, the rest of which remain forgotten until a new entity tries to power up the board … and something goes horribly wrong.
  • Magic is actually what most human (and serpent-folk, and mi-go) practitioners believe it to be: a non-physical energy permeating everything that is perceived. It cannot be manipulated technologically, and it is merely tangent to the weak gods of Earth. It relies on signifiers, secrecy, and rotes, and is more connected to perception than it is to mentation. Hence, beings that can “see” into more dimensions are more naturally gifted magi. The magus’ will is what focuses his perception, and brings about effects.
  • Magic is perceptual gravity. The more important the entity, the more it warps reality in its vicinity. Said vicinity includes where the entity is looking – even human physicists are beginning to understand that observation is action is location – where it’s been, and where it’s being asked to look. Hence, magical spells invoke powerful entities to boomerang off their “gravity well” and create the potential (literally, the energy differential) for “unreal” actions.
  • Magic requires blood sacrifice from the magus, as a way of providing your “public key” to the cosmos by delivering your DNA to Yog-Sothoth. Sacrificing babies or virgins or whatever is the equivalent of hacking the universe using someone else’s account.
  • All magic is a matter of dealing with spirits. These immaterial beings live along the edges of the dimensions, acting as interfaces between otherwise incompatible mentalities. Some spirits dwell fully in one or another universe but at a higher (or lower) energy state, often wielding great local power, but only perceptibly in short bursts.
  • The above is true, only every spirit is an avatar of Nyarlathotep. Hence, only those who have communed (knowingly or unknowingly) with Nyarlathotep can work magic. Or their descendants – a fine option for Investigators with In the Blood as their Drive.
  • No, every spirit is a facet of Yog-Sothoth. Hence, to work with more than local spirits, the magus must contact the Opener of the Way to get permission (Clearance? Code words?) to communicate information across dimensional boundaries.
  • Magic is toxic-pollution, the after-effects of the energetic collision of the great elemental gods. Where their overwhelming forces meet their impenetrable fields, pieces of space-time come unstuck. Where this dimensional fallout lands, reality weakens and magic becomes possible. Earth caught a fairly intense dose of this fallout during the fall of Cthulhu, and is a deadly motherlode of a reality. Beings like Nyarlathotep exploit weak races like the mi-go to mine it out in quasi-material lattices; other forces seek to devour it more directly.

the Greater Time

Luxan art quickly became a major cultural force that began to take form during the Second American Civil War as a method of spreading Luxan control and showing alliance to the new Luxan government. After capturing ground in the civil war Luxan troops and the civilians they fought with typically began to modify their surroundings either to make it less hospitable and desirable for their enemies or simply more pleasant for themselves. Typically this consisted of creating small natural disasters or minor acts of bioterrorism, some of the most common undertakings were desecrations of holy sites or patriotic sites as well as repurposing cemeteries and other important areas. However what made these events important was the way the Luxans approached them, rather than going about it with a destructiveness they approached it from an artistic perspective and they readily shared what they created with their enemies and allies.

One Nation Under God, 1997
Debatably the most important piece of Luxan art ever One Nation Under God completely and utter encapsulates the feeling and events of the Civil War.

In addition alters and shrines were a major part of the Luxan civil war as they were a major source of power and morale for the Luxan troops during this time and great care and effort was put into creating them. These shrine typically consisted of large idols of particular deities or figures that bore some importance and were decorated with trophies, or holy artifacts. Many of these shrines still exist today and they have all be classified as holy sites by the Order of the Old Ones and government property by the Royal Court which has led to some debate over who should maintain them.
The Grey Age

Slowly as time went on and the Luxan Empire began to gain to become more of a presence in the international community Luxan society began to change in response to this new world view. This time would be called the Grey Age and would see a shift towards darker and more cynical creations. Art and media became incredibly somber and grim during this time and tended to focus on the negative sides of existence. This change is most commonly attributed to Luxans starting to look at themselves in comparison to other nations, this resulted in Luxans seeing the rest of the world in a negative light as they looked down on other nations, it also revealed the great cultural divides that existed between Luxa and the rest of the world.
Image
Nihilist Birth Rite
Llvensgrol, 2000
One of the later pieces that marked the crux of the grey age this paintings symbolism of religion and life show the Luxan mentality toward everything once considered sacred.

Typical art of the Grey Age included recreations or adaptions of previous art as a way of showing the differences between Luxans and other or showing how Luxan had evolved from the United States. Many movies, plays and genres were remade and envisioned in a much edgier and more depressing light. Original pieces during this time tended to focus heavily on the mundane and uneventful in such detail that its became unhappy. Nihilism and apathetic art also played a major part in this era and helped shape a new Luxan outlook on life and international culture.
The Decadence Movement

The decadence movement started out as a rebellious movement that sought to go against the negative view of the Grey age and counter balance them with hedonistic imagery. Owing it conception to small groups of elderly artists in Heden and Reala, this art trend caught on slowly and faced much criticism from the vast majority of Luxan culture, however it was picked up by several younger more popular artists who adapted it and made it more widely popular. The main focus of this art in the beginning was passion and emotion the polar opposites of the Grey Age, and it looked at all forms of emotions as good things to be enjoyed. It portrayed the same miseries that that Grey Age did but instead of showing them as somber it made them seem happy and vibrant. This idea was disliked because people felt that it was making light of the true horror of the universe and actively campaigned against it.
Image

This abstract work is one of the more traditional Decadence paintings which displays a chaotic and exotic life of strange aesthetic tastes.

However eventually this art style changed to depicting in great detail deviant and hedonistic which won many people over to its virtues. Art of this era tended to focus on acts of depravity and moral bankruptcy such as sadomasochism, torture, and drug use. These subjects were made to look inviting in ways that form much of human history they never had and this is considered to be a major foundation of modern Luxan values.
The Post Cenobite Era

In 2010 the Luxan Empire participated in a massive assault on Italy and the Christen State of Rome in retaliation for innumerable Christen terrorist that had taken place over the course of the year. This attack was incredibly brutal even by Luxan standards and once the Empire had captured the Vatican General Tengri under command of the Immortal Dreadlord revealed the existence of command “Cenobite”. This order allowed many of the soldiers in the city to pillage, destroy and rape as they saw fit as a form of psychological warfare. This act gained the Luxan Empire international infamy and created a new cultural movement based on the acrocities that took place.

Image

A landscape portrait depicting the bombed out and burned carcass of Rome on the day the Luxans left the city it has won dozens of awards and is considered a perfect study in the eras methodology.

The Post Cenobite era is one of Sadism and Machoism where Luxans found entertainment in pain and suffering both inflicted upon them and upon other. Art tends to depict acts of torture and mutilation while many musicians started or ended their song with a recorded scream or cry of terror. The concept of “Torture Porn” became a widespread term in the film industry during this time to refer to horror or thriller movies that used violence to elicit a response. Luxan art from this time is heavily censored in other parts of the world something that has caused much debate in recent years.
The Revival

Following the disillusioning war with Port Charlotte many Luxans have begun looking back the nation’s not too distant origins. People longed for a time when Luxa didn’t have international obligations and when isolationism was cherished. Because of this Luxans turned to more pure forms of their spirituality something that was a major factor during the Civil War and art of this time reflects it. More and more people began to paint pieces that wouldn’t have looked out of place in the Greater Time as they tried to remind people what being a Luxan was about.

The Flower of Evil by Yoann-Lossel
A famous work of art dedicated as a gift to the Witch Theagan several days after the Luxan War against Rome. The artist is a roman by birth and some are unsure if this painting is meant to be a compliment or an insult. Either way the Empresses adores it and has placed it in her personal office for all her associates to see.

Higher Beings Command by vladimm
A politically satirical piece created during the Revival this piece has been used by many groups for various purposes. The core meaning of this painting stems from whether you see this as the past, the present or the future.

Nothing Lasts Forever by Acrylicdreams
A piece created during the Grey Age that was used to inspire artists to move towards showing horror and evil in more vibrant views and hues.

Nightmare by andreauderzo
A piece rich with symbolism that describes the entire Order of the Old Ones. The creature in this painting represents the truth of reality and the cosmic horrors which Luxan Worships while the girl represents humanity cowering and terrified of something it can barely see. The wall is representative of our physical and mental barriers that make it impossible for us to glimpse the cosmic without destruction and the teddy bear represents religion which is worthless against the true realities and cosmic horrors.

Samsara by Miles-Johnston
This painting is a skilled reproduction and dissection of both the mentality and biology of the Dreamlands. It is said that the artist created while sleeping and they journeyed to the Dreamlands to collect it personally.

PANDEMONIUM by BorjaPindado
A powerful piece created shortly after the Roswell Summoning Incident that displays one of the horrors that befell the nearby towns in the area. It has been cited as a great representation of the effects that first contact with the mythos can have on a person. Mainly that while it can inspire bravery and a willingness to fight at first it quickly fills humans with terror and pain.

Symphony Insomniumby Rivenis
A powerful piece said to be the visual manifestation of the Massa di requiem per Shuggay one of the darkest and most powerful musical numbers every created. While there is much speculation among scholars about how Rivenis created this piece it is well known that it holds just as much power as the opera itself.

Nameless Cults by charro-art
This piece of art illustrates the method and style of modern culture by looking at how people now deal with the mythos today and how rituals are enacted. The painting highlights the fact that rituals using increasing more human elements and are moving away from the Lovecraftian ideal. This is shown in the modern setting which is a high rise rather than woods or a tombs as would be tradition, while the presence of a gun and a phone show that people are favoring safety over pure results.

Strange Aeons B by TentaclesandTeeth
A perfect creation by this generations most accomplished artists Strange Aeons is said to show an event sent to Strange TentaclesandTeeth in a dream by an Outer God. He claims that the God was most likely an avatar of Nyarlathotep and was showing an image of the year 3039.

-----Death Has Died (FT only)-----

Image
-A system totally corrupted by the forces of a Right Star-

Luxans suffer from a major metaphysically unbalance due to their constant associating with the Ancient Ones and Eldritch Energies, this causes Luxan under the light of a Right Star to become immune to death. This is at once a blessing and a curse, their immortality grants obvious advantages however the lack of death causes Universes in habited by the Empire to quickly fill up. Whenever a Luxan would die or decay they instead suffer horrible cancerous mutations. Open wounds sprout tentacles or quills, while skin flakes are replaced by loathsome scales and slimly substances. Lost limbs regenerate as tangled claws or pseudopods and diseased flesh is transformed into new organs and appendages. These mutations normally don’t last long and eventually the Luxan slowly reverts to a more natural form after a period of about thirty minutes to an hour. This transformation is typically called the Cancerous State, the Unveiled Form or the Transcendent Shape. These Mutations are typically random but some Luxans claim to transform into certain common forms or sprout recognizable limps and cysts often leading some to theorize that there may be a rhyme or reason to the transformations. It takes a Luxan 3.65 seconds per light year from the nearest Right Star to recover from total death, however some incredibly powerful or elderly Luxans can regenerate faster and control how they mutate.

However this state of “undeath” also causes rampant over population and growth in any place Luxans exist. Even with strict birth control policies the race grows both as a species and in body constantly, draining resources and space in a dangerous manner. If resources run out or intense plague occurs Luxans may be trapped in a constant cycle of death and rebirth. Other times massive amount of people will die and due to proximity their bodies may fuse together during the mutation process. This happens very frequently to wildlife infected with Luxan genes and entire forests may transform into nightmarish cyst and mouth covered monsters. It is for this reason that Luxans scout the Multiverse for Right or Almost Right Stars where they forge new empires to sustain their growing population. Sometimes the Ancient Ones use the Luxans as a weapon deploying them like an invasive species to invest realms they seek to conquer.

The vast majority of stars in the Omniverse are Wrong with only one millionth of stars in one millionth of universes being Right. However the number of Right Stars is growing. The exact properties of what makes a star Right have no yet been determined but current theories believe that it has to do with the color and geometry of these fiery spheres that causes immortality to the Empire. Some stars are classified as Almost Right, these stars can allow Luxans to regenerate from any wound so long as they are still alive but do not cause mutations and cannot revive a totally dead Luxan. If a star becomes right above a planet were a dead Luxan is buried or resides than they will typically rise from the grave in a horribly mutated form that may take years or decades to revert to normal. This condition is a concept that Luxans embrace and many wish to see life run rampant throughout the multiverse until nothing dies and growth reigns supreme in a philosophy known as Cancerism.

-----Dolvol Fusion-----

Due to birth defects, chemical poisoning and radiation a very common mutation in many Luxans is an inbuilt Sadomasochism phenomena called Dolvol Fusion. This illness is caused by one of centers in the brain for detecting pain (the thalamus, hypothalamus, midbrain, lentiform nucleus, somatosensory cortices, insular, prefrontal, anterior and parietal cingulum) mutating and fusing with one of the areas involved in registering pleasure (the nucleus accumbens, posterior ventral pallidum, amygdala, other cortical and subcortical regions). This strange melding of mind means that every extreme sensation is semi-randomly distributed to one of these areas, making pleasure and pain senses randomized. To a person with DolVol Fusion sexual coitus may be the most painful experience imaginable while disembowelment can be orgasmic. This leads many with this abnormality to need special care in their youth until they can manage the illness and people with this typically develop poor empathetic abilities as well as an enjoyment of masochistic tendencies.

The Monarchy

Postby Primordial Luxa » Mon Apr 29, 2013 7:58 pm

-----Emperor and Empress-----

The Emperor or Empress are titles given to the member of the Royal Court who is in charge of the most Kingdoms and Federal Institutions. It is their job to act as head of state and head of government for the Luxan Empire and to oversee debate in the Royal Court.

-----Princes and Princesses-----

The Princes and Princesses of the Luxan Empire are nothing more than political minded individuals either born to or adopted by the Emperor or Empress. They don’t hold any real power unless they are elected by the people to a position or appointed a title by another member of the government. -----Detectives-----

Image

Detectives are the most powerful members of the Luxan judicial system beneath judges, and administers. Detectives are given jurisdiction over an entire kingdom and are allowed to seek out any criminals with their sphere of influence. All detectives are well versed in criminal study and experts at analyzing evidence and effectively using police procedure. Detectives are usually more heavily armed than traditional officers and their code of conduct is constantly changing depending on the parameters or their assignment and their targets. This makes their job hard they are meant to follow dozen of complex rules of force and invasiveness based on the person they suspect and the crime they may have committed. In addition detectives have the ability to build specialized Grey Guards to suit their own personal tastes and to help accomplish various missions.

-----Enforcer-----

Image

The core of the Luxan Judicial system are the Grey Enforcers. Easily recognized by the stand trench coats and black attire, enforcers are focused on responding quickly to crime and using specialized magic and swarms of Grey Guard to maintain order. Operating only inside of their country of jurisdiction Enforcers are relatively small in number compared to other nation’s police forces but their numbers are easily compensated for by the grey guards. Much on an enforcers time is spent helping with logistical work or patrolling areas where major crime is predicted to happen, however when crimes are detected by Luxan surveillance networks or when reported team of 2-4 Grey Enforcers are teleported to the scene. Grey Enforcers primary methods of dealing with crimes or disaster is their ability to summon large amount of Grey Guards to help preform grunt work in either apprehending criminals, securing areas or helping the wounded. Enforcers are allowed to use whatever form of weapons or true realties they see fit so long as they obey all rules of engagement, this means that Grey Enforcers can either be armed with the standard issued Transcendent Revolver or any personal weapons they prefer. Grey Enforcers are advised to try and apprehend any major criminals they can alive so that their punishments can be merited on by the court. However if this is not possible Grey Enforcers are well within their rights to kill fleeing or attacking criminal.

-----Grey Guard-----

Image

Grey Guards are little more than dispensable grunts used by Detectives and Enforcers to bolster their ranks and provide fire support for their operations. Grey guards are typically armed with bullet proof riot shields and pistols, working in large phalanxes to overwhelm criminals with small arms fire and storm their positions.

-----Sentencing in the Luxan Empire-----

In the Luxan Empire their are only two types of sentences for those convicted of criminal activity. A minor offense for those who commit lesser crimes such as minor theft, minor traffic violations, or failing to uphold certain regulations will result in a fine which is determined by the judge overseeing the trial. These fines are typically incredibly large to discourage even these minor offenses. For major offenses such as assault, major theft and other illegal action of such a caliber the criminal is forced to relinquish all of their assets to their victims and the government as well as roll on the wheel of sentencing. This wheel has one hundred ways to ensure that wrong doers are no longer a threat to the Luxan Empire.
